Rings hits the jinkin, slowing it down and allowing Popcorn the opportunity to deal a crushing hit on the gremlin’s skull, finishing it off.

Carl is not misplaced, I made sure to double check and double count how far he moved.

Popcorn, you still have one more action, since you can’t attack from there. Bottlespeaker and Fluff Fang, you can take your turns. I’ll wait until Thursday morning to take my turn. (I’m working Thursday night.)

Sorry. I guess I didn't realize just how fast he was.

Popcorn continues to move north.

"Listen you cowardly miscreant. Stop running around the map."

maps

Your cold ray reaches Carl straight on the back, creating a little patch of frost bite. But it is not quite enough to slow him down.

I’ll wait until tomorrow morning for Fluff Fang.

maps

Carl

Carl jumps towards Popcorn, metallic boot first.

boot:
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

And follows it up with a swing of his scythe.

bludgeoning damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Unfortunately for the jinkin, it remains as visible as ever.

Fungus Leshy Rogue (thief) 4 | HP 52/52 | AC 21 | Fort +8. Ref +12. Will +10 (+1 vs emotion effects) | Perception +10 (Darkvision) | Status: ok

“This fey is remarkably fast,” Reaching Rings exclaims in surprise. “But the jinkin is quite horrible at hiding—I conjecture that it has not had much experience playing the game hide-and-seek.” Choosing a foe that won’t continually run away, the fungus closes in on the jinkin and thrusts their rapier twice in quick succession. The first attack is decent, but the second absolutely skewers the creature.

rapier attack & damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 212d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1) + 4 = 7
2nd attack & damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 262d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 5) + 4 = 13

A part of Popcorn realizes she should probably be getting nervous after getting taking those hits from Carl, but she’s too angry to be properly anxious. Although Carl’s speed is giving her trouble, she manages to catch up with him for just long enough for a single attack.

Strike: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Bottlespeaker wincing at the damage his friend took sends out a healing spell to his friend. "Popcorn keep up the good work. You are doing an amazing job," he calls out.

maps

Rings

With two swift strikes of your rapier, you leave two penetrating wounds deep and large enough to kill the jinkin.

Popcorn

Approaching Carl, you deal a devastating blow to it, searing him with your fire. He tumbles from side to side, severely weakened from the blow, but remains standing. He spits blood on the ground. “You will pay for that”

Bottlespeaker

The bruised leaves on Popcorn begin to heal and regain their vibrancy as your spell affects her.

Carl

He tightens the grip on his scythe and swings for Popcorn’s head.

scythe:
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

Having missed with his scythe, he spins it around and brings it back using the dull part to trip Popcorn over.

trip:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Seeing Popcorn's agility at dodging both of his attacks, he decides to retreat to rethink his approach.

Fungus Leshy Rogue (thief) 4 | HP 52/52 | AC 21 | Fort +8. Ref +12. Will +10 (+1 vs emotion effects) | Perception +10 (Darkvision) | Status: ok

Reaching Rings hurries after the speedy fey, trying to take advantage of its severely wounded condition, but is unable to get within reach of their blade, so instead they call out “Why don’t you just surrender? Here, have a peace offering.”

The fungus hurls a putrid sack of rotting fruit at Carl. What would be considered a delicious treat to Rings and their kind might be less well received by the fey.

Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 Damage (B): 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4

Popcorn follows Carl again, and again has just enough time for one attack.

maps

Rings

The bag of rotten fruit smashes against the side of Carl’s face, breaking open against him.

fortitude:
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

A bruise begins forming on his cheek, but he seems completely unbothered by it otherwise.

Popcorn

In spite of the rotten fruit in his face, Carl fences off Popcorn’s flail with his scythe.

I’ll post on Friday to give time for Bottlespeaker to take their turn.

Bottlespeaker

Hope you are feeling better now

The ray hits Carl, slowing him significantly for a moment. Ice crystals begin to form on h is skin before he shakes off.

”If I’m going out, I’m taking one of you with me.”

Carl

Using the little remaining energy he has, he takes his scythe and lashes against Popcorn, striking again and again before he goes down.

scythe:
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

slashing damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

He strikes once, creating a large gash on Popcorn.

scythe:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

slashing damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

He strikes twice, his movement slower, heavier. He leaves another deep wound on Popcorn.

scythe:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Seeing her weakened, he pushes himself. He's barely able to leave his scythe, tired and wounded as he is. Popcorn sidesteps the blade.

"Need to... keep... going."

Reaching Rings takes quick advantage of the chance to finally catch up with the heavily wounded Carl. The fungus circles around the fey, and while their foe is preoccupied with Popcorn on the opposite side, the rogue stabs twice, once for each kidney.

maps

Rings

You try to stab Carl in the back, but he spins his scythe behind him, fencing your blades off.

Popcorn

Panting, but with uncanny speed, he brings the scythe forward to block your attacks as well.

Then, his scythe begins to slow down.

Bottlespeaker

Exhausted from the battle, he is finally unable to protect himself. You bring your staff down on him. There is a crack, and he falls to the ground. He is finally out.

“Well done, Bottlespeaker,” Reaching Rings praises the druid’s felling blow. “I believe some healing would not be amiss.” They glance meaningfully at Popcorn’s many wounds.

“Meanwhile, I shall endeavor to decipher the conundrum of this gate.” The fungus cautiously moves towards the glowing gate and starts systematically searching the area for any hint as to what it might be anchored to.

Bottlespeaker

With great expertise you care for the wounds of your allies, healing their cuts and their bruises.

Rings

There are in fact several lilac flowers with coloured dots around the base of the portal. They are set up in an unusual distribution, quite reminiscent of a constellation. You feel them pulse and vibrate in line with the movements of the portal, and you know that manipulating them would affect the portal itself.

Fungus Leshy Rogue (thief) 4 | HP 52/52 | AC 21 | Fort +8. Ref +12. Will +10 (+1 vs emotion effects) | Perception +10 (Darkvision) | Status: ok

“I feel like a new mushroom!” Reaching Rings exclaims in gratitude to the druid. “Now, let’s see what we can do about this portal. I conjecture that these lilacs are the key to the portal’s position. I wonder what would happen if we dig one up?” The fungus moves next to one of the flowers and starts to cautiously excavate it.

Recall Knowledge about lilac:
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 What happens if we dig up or move the lilacs? (If Rings realizes it’s bad, they’ll stop!) Dubious Knowledge feat in effect.

map

As you excavate the flowers, you realize that digging up the lilacs would shut down the portal, while moving the lilacs could change the directionality of it.

Fungus Leshy Rogue (thief) 4 | HP 52/52 | AC 21 | Fort +8. Ref +12. Will +10 (+1 vs emotion effects) | Perception +10 (Darkvision) | Status: ok

“Come comrades,” Reaching Rings invites their companions to join them, “I theorize that digging up all of the lilacs will shut down the portal.” The fungus continues to carefully dig up each lilac in turn.

"Thank you," Popcorn says to Bottlespeaker. She sounds unusually subdued, shaken by the realization of how close she had come to death.

She goes along with Reaching Rings' suggestion and helps dig up the lilacs.

maps

The portal starts wavering as you pull flower after flower out of the ground. Once the last flower is pulled out, the portal shrinks and fizzles out.

Around you, the brightly coloured flora from the first world become smaller and lose their saturation. For now, at least, the influence from the first world has been stopped.

Bottlespeaker joins his friend digging up the flowers. "You know we should really transplant them and move them to a location where they won't summon those horrible creatures," he says while carefully uprooting a plant.

Fungus Leshy Rogue (thief) 4 | HP 52/52 | AC 21 | Fort +8. Ref +12. Will +10 (+1 vs emotion effects) | Perception +10 (Darkvision) | Status: ok

"I wholeheartedly agree," Reaching Rings says. "There is no reason for these flowers to suffer now that we have successfully removed the portal. With careful hypothesizing and testing we should be able to find a safe location for them to grow."

maps

It might be safer to plant them in separate locations, and far away from any ley lines.

"If separate locations make the most sense, then should we split up for now and each find places to plant a quarter of them?"
