You return to the deep gnome village where Irlah Kestiwhitt and Effeflinn Whyst wait anxiously. Irlah suggests an evening’s rest before journeying to the portal. She herself is still packing up her belongings to go back home. Eltha stares angrily at both Effeflinn and Kreighton but doesn’t attempt any further violence.

You can either rest the night or go for it. If you go for it, you won't have a chance to renew spells, etc (hint hint... and Rex knows I'm a very generous GM :) )

If you choose to rest the night, go ahead and make your daily prep (and indicate your changes, if any). If not, ignore the previous sentence... In either case, go ahead and open the spoiler when you're ready to make your way back.

Journey back to the portal:

The journey back to the portal takes 2 hours and you come upon a scene of utter chaos. The open cavern in front of the portal is filled with dozens of bizarre creatures tearing each other apart, seemingly to reach the portal themselves. Horrific and alien noises ring out and echo back. The floor is slick with blood, and the air burns with acrid fumes.

The magic of the portal has attracted many bizarre Darklands monsters. Much like the deep gnome villagers, these creatures have been cut off from the rest of the Darklands, and they want to see what else is out there. However, the magic and excitement, along with the aggression of many of the Darklands residents, has led to an enormous battle. The monsters are mostly holding each other at bay, but as you watch, a couple of gogiteths break free from the chaos and soon, their long legs disappear through the portal! The portal starts to flicker dangerously. You have only moments to get through!

You need to cross approximately 120 heet to get past the battlefield to the portal. You each must choose one method to get across the battlefield. You can use a skill appropriate to your method:
DC for all checks is 26
Acrobatics to avoid attacks
Athletics to shove monsters out of the way
Survival to find a path around the battlefield
Melee attacks to fight through.

Success means you get to the portal unscathed
Failure means you get to the portal but are targeted by a melee attack.
Teleportation or similar spells - no check required, automatic success
Flying/Burrowing: +5 bonus to your check
Shaine and the other Pathfinders easily get across (of course!)

We are not in initiative. You're not going to survive combat here. Just get to the portal as quickly as you can!

Added the +1 to Merisiel's damage from the CA. Freedom of Movement doesn't also appear to affect terrain effects (if I'm mistaken, please go ahead and correct me; the last time I ran this nobody used it! :) )

Rex sends some much needed healing to Sideon and bolsters his comrades. Merisiel directs Plinteff to shoot White, which he promptly does, damaging it. She hurls her dagger twice at it, striking once and opening a small slice in its leg. Concentrating, she attempts to give White a migraine but it shrugs off most of its effects.

Sideon and Merisiel move to flank Blue. Merisiel attempts to distract it but the stone monster doesn't even flinch. Her rapier, though, is not a feint and strikes home.

Merisiel Sneak: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

Sideon attempts to slash at Blue but doesn't succeed. However, as Merisiel's rapier finds a home in Blue's rocky hide, Sideon takes advantage of the distraction and slashes again, driving his dagger deep, doing serious damage. Some dust falls out and Blue appears to stagger slightly.

Immune to Bleed; -10 to speed from Debilitating Strike

Blue is also Enfeebled 1 from Merisiel's Debilitating Strike

No worries -- I didn't want to waste Sideon's crit so I just ran with the original plan. I have a feeling this fight will be as bad as the last one so you're gonna need all the breaks you can get! :)

Merisiel, keep the HP, 28 hits. Glyphs are also handed out before the game. I don't think they can be done retroactively. Congratulations, though! The 5th is the one that's challenging. 1-4 is just a numbers game for the most part! :)

As Sideon's knife cuts deeply into Blue, Merisiel takes advantage of the distraction and adds another deep slice into Blue as well.

Was just informed that my damage rolls for the rock monsters is incorrect. Appears that I copied and pasted incorrectly to my tracking file. Merisiel gets 20 hp back, Sideon gets 10 hp back. It was supposed to be +6 and not +16. Sorry about that.
