"Well, I suppose we'll have to ask elsewhere." Abaal says genuinely disheartened.
"Maybe they'll know more in the foreign quarter." he says to the others. "Thank you for your time, Mrs...?"

Shasta helps herself to a treat, thanks the halfling who offered it, and approaches Ionnia, and asks, "This is nice, but we're hoping to learn more about this ceremony that's supposed to take place. Will a commoner really be made into a noble? Will that happen before or after the princess is allowed to become a queen? Can we observe the vote?"
Shasta plays the part of the breathless tourist and fan of anything royal.

Looks, I don't know the answer to your questions, but, Calhadion keeps private documents in his office and has a safe in the next room. I assume that is what you came for. The halflings have left the room after she says this I'll let others chip in before moving onto the next scene, but you have made a success to get the information you need, and I'll reveal the next room shortly.

![]() |

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll try to find something useful in his documents.

That part sounds like a Shasta problem.

![]() |

Shasta suspects Ionnia thinks the Pathfinders are instead the hired assassins and she's tipping them off to help them. Shasta winks conspiratorially at her and whispers, "So what is your role around here?"
I'm not clear on something. Had the halfling guide left the room before Ionnia said this? When the halfling leaves the room, were we being led to the next stop?

![]() |

Seoni looks around, a small lizard perched on her shoulder as the illusion of the Ulfen man disappears, revealing her true form once they are all alone. Okay, so the halfling is in on the assassination? Or here to help us, I maybe lost his train of thought there. Shall we take a look and see what we can learn from this? She asks, before stopping a moment, and incanting a quick spell protecting her from harm...

"We are wasting time here." the tall swordsman announces regardless of halfling, nameless noble ladies or anything else. "Let us just go see if we can find this safe ourselves. I carry a skeleton key. Perhaps it will fit the lock."
He strides toward the western doors, and throws them open.

![]() |

@GM: I'd still like to here what Ionnia says to Shasta's question.

DoubleGold |

My role around here? Ionnia just looks at you puzzled. Not sure how to describe it. She shrugs her shoulders. Guess I help out the same as everyone.
You head into A4 and find the safe as Ionnia told you where it was.
Bookshelves line the wall of this square chamber. A fireplace along the far western wall looks well used but presently lies cold. A circular table replete with documents rests in front of it, while two couches face each other near the center of the room. Abaal, I'll allow it, but if you don't make the right disable device check, ie fail by 5 or more the documents burn as something in the safe triggers. You are actually told the safe might have fail safes. If you want to do that, give me a sleight of hand to work around it or knowledge engineering check to figure out where you would strike without triggering it in place of disable device.

![]() |

"Wai- Wai- Wait!" Shasta says as she rushes to where Abaal is hitting the safe. "I think I can get it open without all that noise and risk to the contents."
She turns her back on the men as she fishes out some tools hidden in her shirt. She kneels by the safe and begins to work on getting it open.

Fort save. You are the only one that posted in Play by Post that you said you where eating the treats. Nobody else posted that they ate or even enjoyed the treats. Wolfsbane dc is actually 18. cause each treat had 2 doses.

Edit: I thought Ionnia offered the treats. Dialogue corrected.
Bummer! I reviewed my notes and Shasta's total bonus for disable device is 18: Ranks 9, Dex 3, Class skill 3, Vagabond child 1, MWK thieves' tools 2. Does that change the outcome? 16 + 18 = 34. I don't think anyone else in the party can offer an aid roll.

She puts a finger into her mouth and induces vomiting to limit the damage.

Shasta has a potion of lesser restoration, which she'll take if she fails the next save. How long between save attempts? If anyone has an antitoxin, Shasta will pay you for it.

Shasta recovers enough to return to the safe. "Best stand back. Safe this tough could be tricked out to destroy the contents or ... Just stay away."
She concentrates, listening carefully as she attempts to work the combination, sweat breaking out on her face.

Shasta, it is a minute between saves, with a maximum of 6 failures, or until you save once, dc 18. The first save occurred 10 minutes after eating. Each additional save is 1 minute. I'm going to say after you complete this combat is the next save. Maybe not the immediate next round, but after the fight, so if someone has spells to help with it that only takes a round to cast, go ahead. You felt it soon after you open the safe and just before you walked into this room as they ambush you. Unless the combat takes 9 rounds, I'm not going to make you roll during combat.

Abaal hits one twice across the chest for 22+27 dmg
Sorry. I rolled twice so as not to confuse or slow us down, as Overhand Chop and Backswing have slightly different effects, and he normally uses the latter for a full attacks, which I wasn't sure he was entitled to in the crowded room while making an otherwise free 5-foot move.
Anyhow, if you are using the rolls strictly in order, the damage on the first spoiler would only be 20 while the damage from the first roll in the second spoiler would be 27, due to the differences in the two-handed fighter abilities mentioned above.
