Zibini, Goblin Psychic |
"Hey! Back off, skeletons!" says Zibini as the undead approach. It's always undead!
With a surge of anger, he mentally hurls a loose stone at the closest skeleton.
He sees that Lazzare is closer to the skeletons and may be targeted. He projects a feeling of concern, which protects the ysoki.

Zibini hurls a rock at Red, which hits and appears to do full damage. Zibini, I am not rock-solid on the mechanics of the psychic. Can you confirm that you are able to cast psi cantrips without Unleashing Psyche first? I will move forward as if that is true, since that seems to be my reading from the Psychic entry on AoNPRD.
Meadow hunts Yellow and tries to recall some information.
Meadow doesn't think the lead poisoning will do long-term damage, only short-term.
Rapid Lead Poison (affliction, poison, necromancy) High amounts of lead can cause headache, difficulty concentrating, and joint pain. Necromantic magic has augmented the lead that infuses this skeleton, causing it to take effect far more quickly than is typical for lead poisoning.
Saving Throw DC 20 Fortitude; Maximum Duration 4 rounds; Stage 1 1d6 poison damage and stupefied 1 (1 round); Stage 2 2d6 poison damage, stupefied 1, and clumsy 1 (1 round); Stage 3 2d6 poison damage, stupefied 2, and clumsy 2 (2 rounds)
Her arrow hits Yellow, but the hard bone mitigates the damage. Resistance to piercing.
Lazzare sends a bolt of electricity through both skeletons.
Red Reflex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22 vs DC 22
Yellow Reflex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 vs DC 22
Both take some damage, but Red takes less - much less, as the electricity doesn't seem to penetrate down into the bones. Resistance to electricity!
Jadran smacks the skeleton twice in the ribcage, powerfully (both crits!), but the skeleton is tough. A giant puff of leaded smoke goes up. Jadran, please make a DC 20 Fortitude save. See above for the effects, which take place immediately - so if you fail the save and are poisoned, you took damage at the end of your turn, and should roll a recovery roll (another DC 20 Fortitude save).
Tiger moves up and strikes three times, each of which bounce off of the skeleton's hard exterior harmlessly. 3 misses
Green moves up to Tiger, with enough time to smack him on the head with a serving tray.
Serving Tray: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Zibini, Goblin Psychic |
After Lazzare's spell, nobody is really hurt. Yay!
But now there's a skeleton in his face. Fighting the undead can be really scary, but it can also be really exciting.
With his magic powered and controlled by emotions, Zibini is good at leaning into and embracing the feeling he needs. He focuses on the thrill of battle, and lets that emotion wash over and out from him.
He laughs, and suddenly seems much lighter, almost floating as his feet barely touch the ground. He's raised up by colorful energy that whirls around him.
It can't touch him. He feels safe, and that feeling is reinforced by a shield of force between them.
But it tried to hurt him and his friends. He feels angry, and that feeling takes the shape of a hammer. He swings his arm upward, and the hammer that was never there follows the trajectory and swipes at the monster.

I don't really have anything to finish them off that would not cost me spell slots.

Tiger's first punch scatters Blue's bones into a dozen places, but his second and third hits can't affect Green.

The skeletons bear no weapons or armor, and their fine clothes are too badly damaged to have any value. A few of them have small items of jewelry that did not melt or become encased in lead. In total, these are worth 2 Treasure Bundles, but 30 gp if you want to buy anything in town.
---
The trio of humans are successful in their battle as well, though they sustain heavy injuries during the fight and are in no shape for further confrontation.
Assuming the Pathfinders approach, they are readily identified as Aspis agents by their badges encased in gelatin. They introduce themselves
as Harp (female human), Arrow (male human), and Bear (female halfling).
As soon as they realize that (1) they're grossly outmatched in combat, and (2) the Pathfinders aren't there to kill them, they readily spill the proverbial beans.
Their leader, the bronze agent Tamis the Hawk, was slain in the first attack, and the survivors are unsure what to do. They show the Pathfinders a copy of their orders:
Tamis,
You’ve heard of the Maid of Anactoria? It’s a bog mummy they found in Ustalav, which supposedly has magical powers. I’ve heard rumor that there are more to be found in the bogs north of the village, and we need to know if it’s true. If my source is to be believed, the others waiting to be found will be just as powerful.
Here’s the thing: higher-ups have decided we’re not to take the easy road and just grab the famous one. That’d draw too much attention. Learn what you can about the existing example and where it was found, and then go looking for more. You’ll have a team of ten and whatever supplies you’ll need. Bring us back a new bog mummy, and that silver badge is as good as yours.
Under no circumstances are you to steal or even tamper with the existing Maid of Anactoria.
Trusting in your complete understanding,
—D
Also, they have archaeological equipment and notes showing they have been busy at work for quite some time, as well as the callouses that go along with such heavy work.
As far as everyone can determine, they appear to be telling the truth.
Finally, they state that they are expecting more supplies and orders to come in on a stagecoach, which is due in town tonight, and invite (or beg) the Pathfinders to escort them out the accursed bog and back to civilization.
You may question the Aspis agents further, if you'd like (or if there's anything that doesn't make sense so far), or, if not, pick a new lead to follow.

The remainder of the campsite is searched, but unless people are interested in the fineries of peat, there's not much more to discover.
Lazzare gives the young agents a tongue-lashing, but they're very easily cowed, being mere trainees.
Where to, next? I think it's implied that Lazzare wants to take them back. It's nighttime, but finding the town won't be hard since you can follow the lights. Quorum of 3.

"If you think you can guide us back to town that's where I'd prefer to be at night. The bugs and flies will swallow us whole otherwise." Assuming we're going back to town Jadran spends his efforts keeping close tabs on the Aspis, perception.
Jadran carries his shield on the way back, just in case its needed in a hurry.

Tiger pulls out his javelin and follows Jadran...
If light's an issue, he'll light his Wayfinder. GM, safe to assume that Tiger has time to refocus?

By the time the Pathfinders arrive back in town, with some humiliated Aspis agents in tow, the sun has fully set. However, the full moon and stars provide dim light.
The Pathfinders can confirm that a stagecoach from Caliphas is expected later this evening, and that Constable Fieru already rode out to meet it on the road.
You've got options. You can go intercept the stagecoach outside of town, or continue the investigation in town: there was a lead of Domiri's Sundries from the very beginnnig, as well as Otto Palvik's house, the friend by whom Evni was called away.

Jadran is glad to finally be back on solid ground, taking a minute to dump the bog water from his boots and take a few drinks from his waterskin, which he offers up to the Aspis afterwards. "So should be head out to meet your bosses and get this sorted out quickly?" He asks the trio.

Is that a vote to intercept the stagecoach?
Lazzare |
Lazzare thinks out loud: "So, the Maid hasn't been stolen by the Aspis, and it looks like it also hasn't been stolen by the living dead, too. This is more complex than I expected... Also, I wonder: If the Maid has been stolen this night, it should still be around. But if someone wants to get it out of Anactoria, they'll need a mean of transportation..."
Is there a lot of merchants and travellers in Anactoria or is it a rather isolated town with the stagecoach we are speaking about the main way to get goods out of town?

”Then let’s see what the good constable finds”, Flory replies.

It was partially a vote for the stagecoach and partially one to see the Aspis' reaction. Aspis are still too high on the list of being involved, and sending more agents, to just write off completely... that and the safety of the sheriff.

Since this is a replay for me I've been holding back on decisions but we're still missing some votes so I'll throw one in for the stagecoach. Fortunately I don't remember anything at all about that choice.
Meadow bites her lower lip. "Lazzare has a point. Although I don't think they would have the maid on the inbound coach, would they?"
