Wep! Happy Birthday :)
Just a heads up that I am around, waiting for next round to come.
Zarena |
GM, what do you think of me using "Message" on the wolf?
My bloodline arcana states "Your powers of compulsion can affect even bestial creatures. Whenever you cast a mind-affecting or language-dependent spell, it affects animals, magical beasts, and monstrous humanoids as if they were humanoids who understood your language."
Message states clearly that it is language-dependent, so it seems possible that I could get a message across to her, telling her we don't want to harm her, etc., but wanted to run it by you before doing it, in case you think it isn't in the spirit of the bloodline because that first sentence could be interpreted to mean only sneaky influencing/deceiving type things.
If it does work, I doubt she would be able to respond in a way that we would understand, but for a one-way message I thought it might work because of my bloodline.
Or alternatively, the spell works and we can whisper to each other, but since we don't "actually" share a language, it is just a strange curiosity to her. ... I guess it just depends on how you interpret the ability. But since it works on other language-dependent spells there has to be some way to get the message across, or so it seems to me. :)

Reading the ability as written, I think what you're suggesting would work. Go for it once you are up.
I also reread Wild Empathy, which Saelihn has, and saw...
Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
Given 1 minute is several rounds of combat, the wolf might attack you during that time.
However, noting the "it might take more or less time," I could see how adding in a convincing Message would make for a creative solution.

About the little wolf... my character is perfectly willing to raise it as well as she is able, and I like the idea of her character evolving in that way, but I didn't note a gender or a name for it yet because I don't feel super strongly about it, and I don't want to take the opportunity away from someone else who does, especially as a newcomer. :)
Lizzie sounded like she wanted to save them, and Ghost might want to adopt it... etc. So, if anyone else feels strongly about it, and wants to be the owner of record, totally cool... just let me know.
Gronilda |
It is always cool when animal companions are inserted naturally in the narrative :)
Zarena |
I just hope it gets along with the familiar that I get next level. Snakes and wolves. Hmm. :)
GM Red |
It wouldn't be an AP without some kind of sort of complicated sub-game in it :) Let me know if you have any questions. There's some details on your refugees' actions etc in this post.

Gotta ask the "totally in no way foreboding" GM question... Is Saélihn sure she wants to head out for a hunt by herself?
Zarena |
Maybe go in the morning instead, and we'll go with you, but at a distance so we don't scare game, but close enough so we can help if something completely unexpected and "totally in no way foreboding" happens?
GM Red |
I'll update today with the assumption that Saélihn won't head out alone tonight.
Did we talk about whether you all are sleeping in armor? Can you let me know if you are?
Zarena |
Zarena doesn't have any armor, so the question is irrelevant for her. She does sleep with the wolf pup beside her though.

I'm remembering from GMing in the past that I should generally include a spoiler of secret rolls most of the time when an NPC is being interacted with, even if it's a "fake" secret roll, so that it isn't obvious whether the NPC is being truthful or not.
Is that what you all do as well when GMing in PbP, or is there a better way to handle it?
Grymwold |

that's a good way to handle anytime a roll could potentially be made
just roll a simple 1d20 w/o any modifiers. If you keep relevant modifiers visible it could alert us to something strange going on
example if Edran's roll was a bluff or diplomacy check of 1d20+10
, that +10 modifier at our current lvl would set off alarm bells
In this case Edran could be bluffing, diplomancing, or just having a straight up interaction. So a spoiler roll should be included just to address all possibilities
Gronilda |
I sometimes do. Others, I just let the players roll if they wish so. If they do, then I generally include a spoiler that would read something like:
spoiler=Gronilda and Grymwold or Sense Motive DC 20
in case Gronilda and Grymwold rolled and made already the DC, so it is clear for them it is not a new roll but the response to their roll
If I roll a Bluff, I include the roll inside the Sense Motive spoiler, that way it is hidden and not directly obvious.

Sounds like we're heading for the Chernasardo redoubt. Unless anyone objects, I'll continue the journey towards there tomorrow.

It looks like it! Thanks :)

I had the Gameplay post almost ready, then figured we should clarify first just in case.
To the point about sending someone back, the camp was relatively close to Veld's shack. We'll call it an hour walk that Edran took you on. To make it simple, how about we say you made a short stop there to let Aubrin and your refugees know what you've found, before deciding to head south to the Redoubt?
Will you leave Edran at the camp, or bring him along?

"To make it simple, how about we say you made a short stop there to let Aubrin and your refugees know what you've found, before deciding to head south to the Redoubt?"
Sounds good:)
Let's leave Edran at the camp.
Gronilda |
Fully agree on both points, thanks!
Gronilda |
Ah! That crit. fortune was on our side this time, that helps things up :)
Being 5 also helps on the CR department.

Don't know how tough this boar is but someone should be wearing the chain shirt +1 b4 we enter melee. Most likely candidates seem to be Lizzie or Saehlihn as both of you are currently wearing studded leather and the +1chain shirt will improve your AC

Three Ironfang hobgoblin scouts go head to head with Gashmaw, the legendary boar. Who will emerge victorious? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z.
Anyway, for Zarena, if you want to go with the preemptive burning hands, I think a Stealth check is in order with the hobgoblins and boar taking an appropriate penalty for being distracted.
If not, and you want to just keep watching that's good too!
Zarena |
Oooh, tempting. I usually play sneaky types, but my sorcerer is not. Hmm. Maybe she tries sneaking, but casts adhesive spittle first so that even if she gets caught, they can't quite get to her before she has a chance to do the spell?
... I think that she will try that, but only after the battle is nearing the end. I want to let them damage each other as much as possible, but then when it is nearing time to step in, she will act.
Hmm... might not work. Both spells require being the same distance away, so theoretically if she has to sneak for burning hands, she would have to sneak for adhesive spittle.
I guess let's just let it play out.

Works for me. Feel free to interrupt them or not but so far Team Boar seems to be winning.
Zarena |
I just realized that I didn't write the name of the spell in my post. It is the one I mentioned above, but should have clarified:

GM Red |
Got it, so I think the boar is not stuck to the ground, but is still entangled. Am I right?
Zarena |
Yeah, it made the save, so not immobile. Just entangled, and can only move half speed.

I've taken some time off work this week. My job involves me being at a computer all day, and since I won't working, I won't be near a computer that much :) Hoping to get outside with my wife and son while the last vestiges of summer are still here.
All that to say posts might be on the slower side this week.

Have fun with the family!
Guys, we have the opportunity to shove the sleeze in front of the bus troglodytes!
Ah nvm, we've villagers watching, and wrong alignment for it.
We might have done so in an alternate timeline, though.
Gronilda |
That's good! Enjoy your well deserved holidays! :D

Enjoy your holiday, Red. :)
And that's hilarious explaining what we would do in the evil timeline, Lizzie. :)
Zarena |
I do wonder if klepto-decepto Edran is going to use the confusion of battle to sneak away and inform the enemy.
Gronilda |
Hello! Just tossing a message so you know I am still around, just waiting for things to resolve :)
