As soon as Enyo slides the recorder through the arch, the alarm blares WHOOOOOP-WHOOOOOP-WHOOOOOP.

The guard, chasing Leiko, hesitates and spins back to look at the archway. Just as he turns, a gigantic water ball slams into his face and catches him unprepared. Flying off his feet, he slams into two passersby nearby. The three of them fall to the ground, soaking wet.

The second guard also spins to the arch and looks around for the source of the alarm. He leaves the platform and begins to run back towards the arches.

Osiris and Jank get an action this round if they like.

”These guys are pretty good; guess I’ll do my part.”
Seeing the uproar caused by his companions, Osiris thinks of how he could add to the confusion.
He moves among the pandemonium for some space yelling at people to move if they are in his way. Then steps into a stance as he rests his hand on his cane sword.

”I haven’t done this in a while, I’ll try to avoid collateral.”
Osiris takes his modded cane sword and slides it out of concealment. As he draws, an explosion erupts from the blade, blasting it out of the sheath.
BOOOOM!!!

”RRUUUNNN! WATCHOUT!”
Osiris shouts to disturb as many people as he can.

He continues shouting but quickly ducks into the crowd and tries to move towards Enyo.

Jank returns from his little trip to the vial vendor, seeing the commotion makes him panic for a split second, but ultimately the feeling that takes over is what only can be described as absolute adrenaline. It’s like jank had just taken a huge hit of grit, and he smiles. Seeing the hopeless, watered down oaksteward in the ground. This guy looks strong, I haven’t yet been able to test my theory on the interaction of a hoarfrost serum with another liquid. But if this doesn’t work… will we lose? His mind begins racing, searching for answers. Numbers. “Nah, I’d win.” He speaks aloud, digging through his bag and twirling the empty vial around between his fingers. Ruffling through his bag, he digs out another vial of a blueish liquid, he shakes it twice watching it fizz up before pouring it into the original vial. Discarding the bottle, he pulls a final vial from a satchel on his leg. Dumping the reddish colored powder into the liquid and instantly shutting it. He rattles it thrice in hand, looks toward his target, and shouts: “I aim to freeze!” ,tossing the frost vial towards the oaksteward, covered in water. Praying for minimal damage to civilians, as a five foot radius from the bomb will all be slightly frozen over but not damaged.

Osiris's distraction is as successful as he had hoped. The explosion executed with no one around causes no injury and maximum panic. People begin to scream and disperse, fleeing the immediate area.

The vial thrown towards the Oaksteward hits with critical effect, smashing open on the protector's right cheek and exploding outward across his body and the nearby area. The guard screams in pain from the attack and shouts "We're under attack!" The fallen guard suddles transforms into half-man, half-beast, his arms and fingers transforming into vicious razor sharp claws intent on slashing.

The crowd begins to thin as people flee from the area at maximum speed.

Seeing the oaksteward shrug off the chilling attack, and then transforming into a deadly beast, jank mutters ”I’ve never seen a mutagen like that, must be a magic user…”he scowls after seeing the use of magic. Jank jumps back into action, placing himself between the beastly human and enyo, drawing a glass beaker filled with a purple smoke. Jank shouts toward the beast. I know I wont be able to beat any of these guys physically, so I just gotta hope this works. He swishes the gas around in the bottle, gazing into the unforgiving cloud of smoke in the bottle, he understand the consequences of unleashing it upon the plaza. This better work, I cant afford to use this in a populated area. He looks at the beast and shouts as loud as he can, “STAND DOWN! I HAVE A DEADLY TOXIN IN THIS BOTTLE, IF YOU PROCEED IT WILL LINGER IN TOWN FOR DAYS, MANY WILL BE SICKENED. Glancing at osiris as he shouts towards the oaksteward on the stand, jank turns his focus towards the beastly one. “You really don’t wanna do this pal”

I wont actually drop the dread ampoule, its just for intimidation. If it does end up being dropped it only lingers for one round and has a splash of five feet from impact.

Osiris's intimidation is extremely effective. The Oaksteward returning back to the arch to handle the alarm stops dead in his tracks, wary of Osiris and his warning. He is frightened 2.

Jank's attempt at intimidation is not as successful. Either the Oaksteward is calling his bluff or he doesn't think the vial is dangerous.

Edra, Leiko still has a turn this round. Enyo you are recalling knowledge on the Oakstewards. Anything else?

Enyo examines the non-frightened Oaksteward. He uses his mirror to see the reflection of an oak twig on his belt, trying to ascertain what their weaknesses may be. Exploit Vulnerability: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 2316 = 16

Just using DC 16 as a benchmark to post - assuming they're L2.

Exploit Vulnerability (weakness 2, 1/round):

You scour your experiences and learning to identify something that might repel your foe. You retrieve an object from your esoterica with the appropriate supernatural qualities, then use your implement to stoke the remnants of its power into a blaze. Select a creature you can see and attempt an Esoteric Lore check against a standard DC for its level, as you retrieve the right object from your esoterica and use your implement to empower it. You gain the following effects until you Exploit Vulnerabilities again.

Critical Success You remember the creature’s weaknesses, and as you empower your esoterica, you have a flash of insight that grants even more knowledge about the creature. You learn all of the creature’s resistances, weaknesses, and immunities, including the amounts of the resistances and weaknesses and any unusual weaknesses or vulnerabilities, such as what spells will pass through a golem’s antimagic. You can exploit either the creature’s mortal weakness or personal antithesis (see below). Your unarmed and weapon Strikes against the creature also become magical if they weren’t already.

Success You recall an important fact about the creature, learning its highest weakness (or one of its highest weaknesses, if it has multiple with the same value) but not its other weaknesses, resistances, or immunities. You can exploit either the creature’s mortal weakness or personal antithesis. Your unarmed and weapon Strikes against the creature also become magical if they weren’t already.

Failure Failing to recall a salient weakness about the creature, you instead attempt to exploit a more personal vulnerability. You can exploit only the creature’s personal antithesis. Your unarmed and weapon Strikes against the creature also become magical if they weren’t already.

Critical Failure You couldn’t remember the right object to use and become distracted while you rummage through your esoterica. You become flat-footed until the beginning of your next turn.

You can attempt to Exploit Vulnerabilities in one of two ways: either by invoking properties that repel that type of creature, or by attempting a more improvisational, ad-hoc method with your esoterica that can impose a custom weakness on any creature, albeit one that usually isn’t as dire as a creature’s existing weakness.

Mortal Weakness After identifying a creature’s weakness, you use a thematically resonant bit of esoterica to attune your attacks to your discovery. Your unarmed and weapon Strikes activate the highest weakness you discovered with Exploit Vulnerability, even though the damage type your weapon deals doesn’t change. This damage affects the target of your Exploit Vulnerability, as well as any other creatures of the exact same type, but not other creatures with the same weakness. For example, when fighting a pack of werewolves, you might use silver shavings or crushed moonstone to deal damage that applies their weakness to silver to your attacks against any of the werewolves, but you wouldn’t apply this damage to any other monsters with a weakness to silver.

Personal Antithesis You improvise a custom weakness on a creature by forcefully presenting and empowering a piece of esoterica that repels it on an individual level; for instance, against a tyrant, you might procure a broken chain that once held a captive. This causes the target creature, and only the target creature, to gain a weakness against your unarmed and weapon Strikes equal to 2 + half your level.

Jank throws another vial, but Edra's steam cloud messes with his vision, and the vial flies wide and misses. The steam hisses and creates concealment for the party on the other side, which is good for them but bad for Enyo.

The recorded in Enyo's hands chirps and lights up, shining brightly with a purple light. This seems to attract the attention of one of the Oakstewards, who immediately beelines for the light toward Enyo's position.

The party bursts away in all directions other than west. Eventually, you are able to find people who didn't see you earlier around the arch and blend back in as you make your way back to Fianara. As you exit town, you overhear several people retelling different versions of the events to the guards.

"The half-eves did it! There was this one female instigating them all!"

"They threw and exploded things on the Oakstewards! It's amazing they got out alive; they were certainly trying to kill them!"

"I saw them trying to blow up the arches!"

And so on...

When you finally regroup outside of town and return to the caravanserai and hand over the recorder, Fianara is thrilled.

Fianara points gleefully to her device, where one of the bulbs shines a brilliant purple. “Just as I suspected!” she exclaims. “Illusion magic.” She points to a different, unlit bulb. “And not a trace of conjuration. Those arches are as fake as a kelpie’s smile.” She settles back in her chair. “Well then, a deal’s a deal. Here’s what I know:"

“The real Seven Arches are hidden somewhere south, in the Wilewood, which is why the Oakstewards restrict travel there. They also post guards. On the night of your Missing Moment, all seven of the guards at the Seven Arches stepped through the portals, just like you did, but only one of them returned—a self-righteous Oaksteward named Bolan."

“When he returned, Bolan was a changed man... and not in a good way. After the high council chewed him out for shirking his post, he stole an important Oaksteward artifact and hid out in the Wilewood along with some other malcontents. From there, he’s been sending cronies to the city to harass the citizens, undermine the Oakstewards’ authority, and recruit other discontented druids to his cause. His ultimate aim, as far as I can tell, is a full-on coup.”

Fianara concludes: “I don’t know what happened to this Bolan character when he went through the arch. But whatever he knows, I figure you’ll want to know it, too.”

Kineticist 1| HP 26/34 | AC 18 | F+10 R+8 W+5 | Percep +5 | Acro +6, Med/Nat +5

Bolan huh? Never heard of him, do you have any more intel on where he could be south? Or do you only know that he’s south of us?

"Regarding Bolan's specific location in the Wilewood, I don't have exact coordinates. That area is vast and heavily wooded, making it difficult to pinpoint anyone, especially someone who's deliberately staying hidden. However, I do have a suggestion that could help you in your search."

Fianara then explains her idea of approaching the Oakstewards for assistance. She mentions her connection with Lemma Feldthorn, a mid-ranking member of the druids' council. Fianara emphasizes that Lemma, being a halfling and an influential figure within the Oakstewards, could provide valuable insights or even direct assistance in locating Bolan.

Fianara continues, "I'll write you a letter of introduction to Lemma Feldthorn. She's reasonable and understands the complexities of the Wilewood better than most. Presenting yourselves as willing to aid in the Bolan situation could earn you her trust and cooperation. It's a smart way to gain access to restricted areas and gather more information. Plus, any progress you make with Bolan might shed light on the Missing Moment phenomena as well."

Jank nods his head in agreeance to Leiko's question. He speaks, asking another question following Leiko's. "And if they are onto us... no. This is very risky, what if they are onto us? He ponders to himself before asking a final question. "I suppose it's safe to say that if we screw this up, the entirety of the oakstewards will be after us, won't they?" He gulps, and his voice becomes shaky as he finishes his sentence. His hand grips around something invisible, looking as if he's holding the hand of another person. Like a child grabbing their mother's hand.

”I wish I knew we had to team up with them before hand…”
Osiris shifted his weight uncomfortably, then looked at Fianara.
”Where is she?”

TG1 | FF

Fianara listens intently to the concerns and questions from Leiko, Jank, and Osiris, nodding understandingly as each speaks. Her responses are thoughtful and aimed at addressing their apprehensions while providing useful information.

Fianara acknowledges Leiko's anxiety and offers a reassuring smile. "In the Wilewood, you'll find more than just Oakstewards. It's a wild and untamed place, home to various creatures and natural hazards. Be prepared for anything from aggressive wildlife to territorial fey. As for resistance groups, apart from Bolan's followers, there might be other factions or individuals with their agendas. It's a complex environment, and not everyone you encounter will be friendly. Caution and diplomacy will be key."

Addressing Jank's worry about the risks involved, Fianara's expression turns serious. "It's true that if you're caught or things go wrong, you might find yourselves in a difficult position with the Oakstewards. However, remember that you have Lemma's support and a legitimate reason to be there. Stick to the mission, avoid unnecessary conflicts, and you should be able to navigate the situation without turning the entire Oaksteward force against you. But yes, discretion is vital."

Fianara turns to Osiris, indicating that she understands the gravity of his query. "If you're asking about Lemma, she's most likely in Vinehall, as per her usual duties. If you're inquiring about the location of the real Seven Arches, Lemma will provide you with that information. As for Bolan, that's what you need to find out in the Wilewood. He's elusive, but with careful investigation and perhaps some local help, you should be able to track him down."

Finished with the questions, she asks "Anything else before you depart?"

Onyinyo stands and begins to pace, "do we know what actually happened in the square that day? If those gates were illusions, did anyone interact with them? The whole town seems to believe they're real, but has anyone actually seen them used? Were they somehow relocated after the Missing Moment and illusion magic was used to replace them? And maybe they now function like my mirror? Reflecting what is happening at the other one? In which case, it's possible someone at the real gates saw me crouched in one when the alarms went off? Do we even know if the Sevenarches are together?" He sits down abruptly, mind reeling at the possibilities.

Fianara shakes her head, "No, the recording work is done. No need for that again."

"I've never heard of gates being moved. They have certainly been used; there is plenty on record about that. Those questions are probably better suited to those that might use them, like the Oakstewards."

" As to your other questions, I have no idea. They sound like excellent things for your research!"

Leiko shrugs her shoulders nonchalantly. "Alright then. I do not think we will learn anything else just standing around. Lets go!"

Leiko gathers the rest of the team and begins to make their way towards the Wilewood, based on the direction provided from Fianara.

Something isn't adding up. Did Bolan and the other guards step through the portals in Sevenarches or Wilewood? Everywhere I turn there are more questions. I wonder if the real Enyo is seeing the missing pieces.

Turning to more practical matters, Enyo looks at Finara, "Is there anywhere in the Wilewood to restock provisions or buy gear?"

Fianara shakes her head "Though I don't know what gear or provisions you require, it's unlikely you will find them in the Wilewood. It's not a town; it's a forest. If you require supplies, I suggest you revisit Sevenarches first."

Let me know which way you are going, it's not clear to me.

The journey from the caravanserai outside Sevenarches to the Wilewood is a transition from the familiar to the wild. The party travels through the dense, verdant forests of Sevenarches, navigating a path that gradually becomes less and less trodden. The sounds of civilization fade away, replaced by the natural chorus of the forest. The deeper they venture into the Wilewood, the more they feel enveloped by an ancient and untamed world.

As they approach the heart of the Wilewood, they are met by a group of Oakstewards. These guardians of the forest assess the party with curiosity and caution. Upon revealing their intent to meet with Lemma Feldthorn and presenting Fianara's letter, the Oakstewards relax slightly, though their vigilance remains apparent. The party is then escorted deeper into the forest.

The path leads to a building that seems to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment, crafted with an evident respect for nature. Here, they are finally introduced to Lemma Feldthorn. The sight of Lemma is indeed unexpected: a halfling druid, her stature small yet her presence commanding. Accompanied by her full-sized horse, Mulberri, who moves with a grace that belies his size, Lemma walks the halls of the building with an air of quiet authority.

"Good day. What is your purpose here with me? What is this business you speak of?"

Osiris puts on a gentle smile and steps forward.
”We have been working with Fianara on her research, and we came here to speak with you about, among other things, Bolan.”

Onyinyo hands the letter to Lemma and steps back, "my friend Mr. Darby speaks to the heart of it. My name is Enyo. Ms. Fianara told us we might be able to help you with the Bolan ... I believe she called it a 'situation.' He smiles, "I worked with a man who referred to these types of situations as 'opportunities.' I always knew to be on my toes when he said that. Nonetheless, that's why we find ourselves in Vinehall, ready to assist." He glances at the others with a growing sense he may have mishandled their introduction.

Leiko walks over and gives Enyo a slap on the back. 'What my friend here is trying to say is we are here to help! Your good friend Fianara gave us the low down on Bolan" Leiko exclaims with more enthusiam, "And we mean to find him to try to uncover the mysteries of the Aiudara!" She pauses as if waiting for some sort of applause. Continuing, she talks firmly "Fianara put her faith in both you, and all of us, to uncover this. Will you help us?

Jank scoffs at both enyo and leiko, as if mocking them. When Lemma and the others are glancing over the party, meeting eyes with Jank, he turns his head downward to avert their gaze, and raises a hand as if to wave hello. Shes so short yet so, enchanting…. His mind begins to brew, before he interrupts himself. No! I cannot think like this… as great of a sight she is… shes no where near her beauty. He then straightens himself back out, all previous thoughts had vanished.

Lemma Feldthorn listens attentively to each party member as they introduce themselves and explain their purpose. Her expression remains thoughtful, a mix of curiosity and caution evident in her demeanor. She responds to each in turn, her voice steady and her words carefully chosen.

Lemma nods at Osiris, acknowledging his gentle approach. "Working with Fianara, are you? That does pique my interest. She has a keen mind, albeit a bit unconventional. As for Bolan, yes, he’s a concern – one that’s grown beyond a simple nuisance. What do you know about him, and how do you plan to assist?"

Observing Enyo's slightly awkward but earnest introduction, Lemma offers a small, encouraging smile. "Opportunities, indeed, Mr. Enyo. Sometimes the greatest challenges bring unexpected chances for progress. Fianara's trust in you speaks volumes. Tell me more about how you see yourselves fitting into this situation."

As Leiko speaks enthusiastically, Lemma's expression softens slightly, showing a hint of amusement at Leiko's vigor. "Your enthusiasm is commendable, and Fianara's faith is not easily earned. If you are indeed here to assist with the Bolan issue and unravel the mysteries of the Aiudara, you have my attention. But this is no small feat."

Noticing Jank's change in demeanor, Lemma gives him a discerning look, sensing the complexity of his thoughts. "It's alright to be apprehensive, young man. The matters we discuss here are not light. I sense there's more to you than meets the eye. What is your take on this situation?

She still seems reluctant to divulge any information and remains relatively guarded. To all of you, she asks "I know you know Fianara, but I cannot simply offer up Oaksteward secrets to everyone who is acquainted with my friend. What do you think you know about Bolan and the current situation? What do you know of the aiudura? How can you help?"

Edra, after assessing the situation and our this new acquaintance walks up from the back pushing his way through his team mates.”How it concerns us? Well I don’t know if you were aware but we are Gatewalkers. Roughly 6 months ago my party, and this Bolan individual experienced the same thing, we don’t know much about it… but we call it a missing moment. We want to track him down and ask him a few questions. We had figured since we share a common goal why not work together?”

Jank, responding to Lemmas question, and listening to Edras response to a separate question begins to speak. “Well… I know this certainly wont be easy. Though it will answer a lot of questions.” His face seems uneasy as he says this, yet it quickly changes to a more determined expression. ”I’m scared. But we have to do this. We can’t discover the mystery of the missing moment without doing this. As Edra said, why don’t we all band together, and uncover the truth. Together.” He clenches his fist, as a fiery new determination sparks in his eyes. “You ask us what we know, and all I can say is this. The oakstewards are definitely hiding something. We know very little about Bolan, and thats why we need your help, Lemma.”
