Leiko, Rolling Thunder, and Enyo each take their turns, launching into what they hope will be decisive actions. However, their attempts—whether they be aimed shots, strategic shoves, or well-intended spells—fall short. Each move fails to connect with their intended targets, resulting in a series of frustratingly ineffective efforts that contribute little to the party's advantage in the skirmish.
Osiris, attempting to replicate his earlier success with the gremlins, tries another bold maneuver. Unfortunately, luck is not on his side this time, and his initial attempt doesn't produce the desired effect. Undeterred, he manages to land a single jab with his sword against Jeraya, the Oaksteward, though his follow-up attack misses its mark, slicing through the air without finding its target.
Edra, meanwhile, proves to be a beacon of efficacy amidst the chaos. His mastery over elemental forces shines through as he launches another icy blast at Jeraya. The attack hits true, burying into her chest with chilling precision. Not content with just one successful strike, he quickly follows up with a blast of flame, the dual assault overwhelming Jeraya and sending her to the ground. The fox, caught in the periphery of the flame attack, is barely grazed but is incensed by the aggression towards its companion.
Fueled by fury at the sight of Jeraya's downfall, the fox turns its attention towards Edra. It moves with a blend of grace and ferocity, delivering two swift bites. The second bite finds a critical spot, striking an artery.

Championing the forces of natural order was difficult when you were fighting an animal like this fox. But there seemed to be nothing about this fox that was natural. It was too tenacious, for one thing. Foxes were shy creatures who would only fight against larger creatures if their young were endangered. And it was quick! He had never seen a fox this agile and aggressive. As it attacked Edra, Thunder growled at it, giving it the chance to regret that mistake, before swinging his leiomano out, once more missing the fox.

The fox finally dies, just as Edra requests. With his cold blast, the furry, adorable creature is frozen and destroyed.
The forest weeps.
With the ferocious foe out of the way, the party finds two doors leading out of this room. Each door has a rope bridge leading to a different section of the structure.
Deciding to go north, the group moves towards the water tower.
Droplets of condensation bead along the exterior of the large catchment vessel in the center of this room, occasionally dripping onto the floor. The vessel is shaped like a funnel, so that its top balloons outward to encompass the whole ceiling, connecting to a much larger catchment atop the building. Pipes covered in gauges and spigots snake out from the tank in all directions along the floor and walls.
Ropes and pulleys connect to a basket that can be raised or lowered through a five-foot-wide hole in the floor. Just out the window to the southwest, a well-oiled hempen rope stretches up to the window of an adjacent building.

Leiko explores the room a bit while her allies tend to their wounds. "Hrm, anything more than water here?". She inspects the pulleys, and the big hole in the floor.

"Why would someone have a rope tied here soaked in oil? An escape route, perhaps? You jump out the window and slide down here. Think this is Bolan's?"
Rolling Thunder pulled a dagger from a belt sheath and severed the rope at this end.
"When we find this murderer, we aren't going to let him just run out on our conversation."
| GM ShadowLord |
As Leiko moves about the room to explore, she discovers that the large water tank is connected to a pressure plate on the floor. As the wooden beam sinks slightly, as a seals on the water pipe nearby bursts, issuing forth high-pressure water

Thunder Rolling severs the rope and disables the possible escape route.
With the room disabled, the group moves back to the southern bridge and makes their way across. Once Leiko, Thunder and Enyo are on the bridge, trouble strikes again. The ropes on both sides of the bridge snap simultaneously, causing the bridge to collapse and the trio to fall.
The forest floor is 50 feet below and each falling creature takes 25 bludgeoning damage. You can attempt a DC 18 Reflex saving throw to Grab a Ledge along the side of either platform.

So much search mode all of a sudden!
The trap seems to be no match for the aware and now very searchful party! Even Edra, who wasn't in danger of falling, successfully jumped out of the way with a double backflip to demonstrate his acrobatic abilities.
Once the party makes it across the gap, they find a cozy library that has been repurposed as a laboratory. Easy chairs are shoved against brimming bookshelves to make room for glass vessels, burners, and other distilling equipment. Stairs ascend five feet to a door to the north. Another door leads east. To the west, a wooden railing surrounds a hole in the floor, which can be descended via a wooden ladder.
As you enter the room, you are greeted with a flying flask that is thrown in your general direction by a dwarven Oaksteward. Accompanying him is a spider-like creature with mystical symbols in hues of deep purple and gold. Its eight long, slender legs are jointed with hints of the same golden color, lending it an otherworldly, elegant look.
