This is the official recruiting thread for 1-13, Devil at the Crossroads, a Level 3-6 scenario.
The Sarkoris Scar still aches from the recently closed Worldwound, but that hasn't stopped the Pathfinder Society and their allies in the Farheaven Clan from maintaining their efforts to reclaim the Sarkorians' ancestral homelands. At a trading post near the southern border of the Sarkoris Scar, the PCs meet their contact from the Farheavens but not all is as it seems. The PCs and their allies will need to unravel the twisted skeins of an infernal plot if they have any hope of avoiding becoming the next victims of a fiendish spirit. This adventure was concepted at Paizo's Adventure Design Workshop panel during Gen Con 2019.
1. Several people have indicated interest in REplaying this scenario. I am prioritizing players who have not played this scenario.
2. Posting expectations are standard-ish: on the low end of 1 post per weekday, 1 post per weekend. Let's just say 5 posts/week. This leads to a game length of between 7 and 9 weeks. Additionally, this is a long scenario, and we will probably go through one major US holiday, and potentially a second.
3. Recruiting is not on a first-come, first-served basis, and people who have indicated their interest in Cottonseed have not claimed a spot. Instead, I'll leave this open for 3 days (to roughly Friday morning US Pacific time) and everyone who applies will be considered to have applied concurrently.
4. To apply, make a post in this thread with your character alias, indicating whether or not your character has a specific interest in diabolic themes, and also whether you would be consuming a replay to play this.

I have not played this before, even though I've played most of season 1. :)
I'm posting with Zhao Kang, my more-or-less typical L6 wizard. If we're not going so high tier though, I do have a more melee-oriented L5 arcane sorcerer. So yeah, essentially both arcane casters though with different playstyle.
Zhao Kang has no specific interest in matters of diabolic nature, but he's curious about pretty much anything.

"Persnickety Wickets!"
Our ysoki hero looks around the room - a PI, a member of the brute squad, a caped crusader, a friendly vegetable, and a shy nerd.
"Throwin' hy hood into this. Met a sea devil before, but uh, not sure that counts. My name's Bangy Piper, and this here is Freerat. Found him and gave him cheese now he follows me everywhere!" he smiles, whipping his whiskers up and down and rooting his tail back and forth, clearly and obviously excited.
Bangy is a 6th Level DX-based Barbarian / Rogue w/ Skilled Mentor Boon who typically leads with Ranged and Thrown Weapons until he is Cornered before flying into a Rage and biting his aggressor with his Sharp Teeth.
Played and GMed this when it was "new", ok with Devils, would purchase and consume a replay to run with GM Watery Soup, but also happy to let fresh blood sign below the dotted line in my stead. =)

Nal is a 5th level rogue/sorcerer whose main priority is keeping her team alive and as un-hurt as possible. She's often teetering on the balance between taking care of things herself to keep them safe vs. being a team player.
I could also bring my 6th level bard, Salaish. She has all the Inspires (Courage, Defense, Competence) and is very support-spell-oriented, focusing less on damage in combat and more on taxing foes' action economy.
I have not played or GMed this before.

He, ahh, died... to a devil early in his career. So there maybe some payback involved in this.
...2 years ago - heroically hauling an unconscious ally out of the room, but triggering a devil-laid trap to meet demise...

![]() |

No point in being a Champion if you can't go down trying to rescue an ally.
But "I got better"

Withdrawing Bangy's application - you got enough "no replay" folks to get a good go.
Have fun!

1. Hancock and Issil, can you please clarify whether you'd be using a replay?
2. Zhamie and Bangy, I am not crossing you off on the list yet. I am unable to personally run a second table, but I might be able to convince someone else to, in which case we might split the pool differently.

Corona Meridian, 3rd Level Cosmos Oracle~
I have neither played nor GMed this scenario before.
While Corona doesn't have any specific character connection to diabolic themes, she does rep for the Vigilant Seal :)
(Slight disclaimer - I'll be out of town at a convention in the mountains of NC from tomorrow through Sunday evening so I wouldn't be ready to start playing until then. If that's a dealbreaker, I completely understand!)

The elf who died from massive damage in that scenario was my second-ever PFS character.
I have not resurrected him.

GM Tiger has agreed to run a second table. They originally applied as Zhamie Zhapp, so I want to acknowledge them publicly for making it possible to take all the non-repeat applicants.
---
I think it makes the most sense to break down the applicants by tier. This scenario was written early on in the PFS2 campaign, and there are some pretty nasty combat encounters. The problems are exacerbated by early-campaign scaling, and low-tier characters in a mixed-tier campaign get the worst of it. Coincidentally, there's a natural break between level 4 and level 5 among the applicants.
Table 1: Levels 5 & 6, GM Watery Soup
Zhao Kang (Level 6) or unnamed Level 5
Khaul Irontoe (Level 6)
Arfsnarf Ah'sneeze (Level 6)
Farnguy (Level 5)
Nal Bagura (Level 5) or Salaish (Level 6)
Erevan Dalanthan (Level 5)
We will use this thread, and I'll create a Gameplay/Discussion shortly. EDIT: Gameplay and Discussion are up.
Table 2: Levels 3 & 4, GM Tiger
Fingo Canvas (Level 4)
Kidron Quintus (Level 4)
Hancock the Angry (Level 4)
Callistos (Level 4)
Issil Telfae (Level 3)
Corona Meridian (Level 3)
GM Tiger will direct you to their campaign. They are in an East Asian time zone, so I believe they are asleep right now. Or at least, should be. :D

1-20 reunion! :D
I didn't look at what classes everyone was. Khaul is melee striker, and I think Erevan is an alchemist, not a ranger, but I think the player meant to post with Mindartis, who is a ranged striker. Farnguy says they're a healer, although they don't have a character sheet up (Farnguy, please get a character sheet up). Arfsnarf and Zhao are both spellcasters, so Khaul would probably appreciate someone up front with him. But Salaish probably works as well, you guys just have to keep an eye out for Khaul. And inspire courage is always very cool.

Thanks GM Tiger for stepping in to provide extra opportunity. That is awesome!
As for front-lining: Arfsnarf does have some up-close capability with natural weapons and the dragon claws focus spell. Obviously it's not what he should routinely do, but if I pick my spots correctly it could partially help fill a gap (he would probably focus haste on himself rather than others in this case to ensure quick getaways if the situation gets back).

Khaul is definitely a front liner. Not necessarily a high damage dealer, but he can certainly take a hit or two.
I'm a big fan of Inspire courage, but rogues can dish out good damage and cover lots of skills as well, which we may be lacking in otherwise.
Khaul can handle out of combat healing, but in combat he is normally too busy.,
