I am sort of wondering how the succession thing will go, yes. If everyone is fey-like chaotic, perhaps everyday there is a die roll and the selected inhabitant is the Count for that day? XD
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Regardless of -our- ancestries, I presume most of the actual residents of the new settlement will be humans from Brevoy. So we'll need to set up some sort of stable government if it's to be worth doing. We can set up a pro-fey sort of government without needing to be whimsical and foolish.
I think a monarchy makes sense given the milieu, but we could also set up an elected council or some other form of government if we wanted to. But some sort of anarcho-syndicalist commune is going to collapse under its lack of weight.
Nidintu-Bel |
I see now. I had initially thought that our principality would have been primarily comprised of the local fey, in which case proficiency in the Wilderness skill and minimal disruption of their existing autonomy would be preferable. However, if our subjects are indeed mostly humanoid, I think a monarchy or oligarchy may be a better choice.
With that in mind, we may want to consider what positions our characters will hold in the kingdom. Given my inexperience with the PbP format, I'm not sure Nidintu would make the best Ruler, but I would be happy to have him fill any role needed (though, as he is not a spellcaster, roles like Magister may not be ideal). Likewise, I doubt he would be a very good Emissary, unless you think the best foreign policy is to bore important visitors to our kingdom with "brief" lectures on random topics like the history of the Iobarian Cheesemonger's Guild. I envisioned him serving as either a General or a Viceroy, but again, I am happy to adapt to any role where I am needed.
GM Eldest |
Good luck with both!
Waiting on a couple more players to react before moving things forward.
Nidintu-Bel |
I'll be at a conference tomorrow and Tuesday. I can probably still post, but I thought I might let you know in advance in case I am unable to do so.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Folks, I want to apologize for my absence. It was a combination of several personal things going on, filing taxes (I own a few businesses so it takes awhile) and having a fairly bad case of bronchitis (which I’m still not over). Nonetheless, I wish I had posted to let you all know I’m still alive.
My plan is to return to all my games tomorrow (Thursday the 20th).
Nidintu-Bel |
I think it might not be a bad idea to try and coordinate our influence attempts. I will list below the discovery/influence skills Nidintu is proficient in, as well as his bonus - ordered by the size of the bonus or alphabetically in cases of ties.
Athletics - +7
Occultism - +5
Perception - +5
Diplomacy - +3
Intimidation - +3
Nature - +3
Survival - +3
As such, my initial inclination is to focus my efforts on Amiri and Linzi, as this will allow me to use my highest bonuses to discover/influence these characters (+5/+7 for Amiri, +5/+5 for Linzi). I thought I might spend these first two rounds either influencing one or both of the characters (as I only have one relevant skill to influence either, making discovering DCs a moot point), likely Amiri (as Phoebe can provide a +5/+7 for Linzi with Deception, Diplomacy, or Performance, better than my +5/+5), or discovering one or both to ascertain weaknesses/resistances. However, while I have read about the influence subsystem, I have never in fact implemented it or seen it implemented, so if anybody has a better grasp of the system I will gladly accommodate other plans.
Ultimately, while I think everyone can contribute here, I believe that Phoebe may be our heavy-hitter in this situation with her high bonuses to three near-universal interaction skills (Deception, Diplomacy, Performance), though I think Lani's Society modifier could prove useful for a wide range of characters as well.
Lani Bralani |
Lani's influence skills are:
Arcana, Occultism, Society +7
Deception, Religion +4
As such, the people she would be most likely able to successfully influence are Linzi, Maegar Varn, Tartuccio, and Valerie.
Clementine Budling |
Clementine can offer the following to Influence:
- Deception +5
- Diplomacy +5
- Survival +3
And the following to Discover:
- Nature +3
- Perception +5
Linzi feels like a kindred spirit, but we could also let Clementine loose on Tartuccio should we wish.
Roots-Sink-Deep |
Acrobatics(T)+6, Diplomacy(T)+4, Nature(T)+7, Survival(T)+7, Tanning Lore(T)+2, Perception(T)+7
Amri- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Survival(T)+7
Harrim- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Diplomacy(T)+4
Jaethal- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Diplomacy(T)+4
Linzi- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Diplomacy(T)+4
Maegar Varn- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Diplomacy(T)+4
Tartuccio- Influence Nature(T)+7 Discovery Diplomacy(T)+4
Valerie- Influence Perception(T)+7 Discover Diplomacy(T)+4
Roots looks like he would favor Amri and Tartuccio, but he is relatively even with everyone.
GM Eldest |
Harold's Discovery checks are successful:
- Success for Linzi
- Critical Success for Maegar Varn
Choose one of the following for Linzi, and two for Maegar:
- the influence skill with the lowest DC for that NPC
- one of the NPC's weakness
- one of the NPC's resistance
Phoebe Selene |
Sure, just point me in the right direction :) I'll try and get a post up tomorrow.
As a side note, I am very busy the coming weeks with a very important work-related deadline. As such my writing time will be limited until the middle of june and my responses might be a bit slowish. Should that happen feel free to bot Phoebe, she will try to charm NPC's who seem succeptible to perform or diplomacy mostly. As this particular PBP is very new and still just getting started I'll try and prioritise it a bit with the limited time I do have so that hopefully won't be needed often.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
HALROD
Acrobatics +6,
Arcana +5,
Athletics +5,
Diplomacy +5,
Eldest Lore +5,
Elven Lore +5,
Fey Lore +5,
First World Lore +5,
Intimidation +5,
Society +5,
Nature +4,
Survival +4
But let's not forget personal interest. Halrod finds Linzi and Maegar Varn the most interesting, so starts with them. I'm willing to coordinate after that. Although Jaethal also interests him.

Map discussion time!
For now I've put the encounter map in Google Slides, but I can just as easily use Roll20 if people prefer that.
Let me know your thoughts.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stick with Google Slides!
There's no learning curve, it's less fiddly and we spend more time on story and less on screwing with maps!
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Nidintu, I think your unarmored AC is 15, not 14. You're trained in unarmored defense, which means your Proficiency is +3 (+1 for level, +2 for Trained). Add your +2 Dex and you've got AC 15.
Nidintu-Bel |
Apologies, I mixed up my Dex and my Con in my head - I thought I only had a +1 Dex, but I see now that I was mistaken. Thanks!
As for the Google Slides map, it seems very intuitive and easy to use, whereas I have never actually used Roll20 before, so I think I would prefer if we stuck with the current setup.
Lani Bralani |
I find Google Slides much faster and easier to access. I would prefer sticking with that.
Busy day but I'll try to get a post in gameplay later if I can.
GM Eldest |
I added a link to an inventory and stats tracker (the latter is for my own convenience). I can try to keep the inventory tracker updated myself, but I would prefer if someone else would do that (or the group as a whole), as I'm already keeping track of a lot of things.
Nidintu-Bel |
I can easily take care of that - I already have a section on that in my campaign log. I'll update it when I get home.
Nidintu-Bel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Inventory is updated to our current position. Items are arranged in their order of acquisition with a note detailing where they were attained, but if another form of organization is requested, I would be happy to oblige.
Nidintu-Bel |
No problem! I'm happy to keep it updated, as well.
I actually had one quick question for inventory management - Nidintu's earlier exploration found one tanglefoot bag in one of the other guest suites. As there are four categories of tanglefoot bags (lesser, moderate, greater, major), I had assumed that this was a lesser tanglefoot bag, but wanted to verify with you.

For those not on Discord, Clementine's player is withdrawing due to time constraints. Clementine will stick around for a little while as an NPC, then fade into the background in case the player wants to rejoin at a later date.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Bye, Clementine!
How do you guys find time for Discord? I barely have time for this!
'Course, I run two businesses, raise two kids and run eight campaigns, so...
Dorian 'Grey' |
I do like Discord being an option for ooc communication. I find those games folks are more involved.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Hello!
I’m off to a vacation tomorrow. I’ll be back after June 21st. I will not be checking my games.
If I am a player, please bot me. If I am the GM, I’ll see you soon!
Tarondor
GM Eldest |
We'll take a little break until Halrod and Lani are back from holidays.
On that note, I will be on holiday from June 26th for a week-ish, but I should still be able to post.
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Hey folks! I’m back.
For our 35th anniversary, the wife and I took the kids to the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park. Saw the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Jewel Cave, Devil’s Tower, the Bighorn Mountains, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We saw bison, bears, bighorn sheep and elk up close (relatively) and even (supposedly, I’m not sure) a mountain lion at some distance. Despite our best efforts, we saw no wolves.
A came home with a bonus gift: COVID. So I’m taking things slowly, but I’m getting back to my games today.
GM Eldest |
Happy anniversary, sounds like an amazing trip! Sorry to hear about COIVD, though. Hope you recover soon!
I'm off camping next week, and not sure if I can manage to post.
Dorian 'Grey' |
Seems like you did quite a bit of wilderness adventuring! Nice!
Halrod of Wyvernstone |
Dear GMs and Players:
I apologize for my absence over the last 8-9 days. I have suffered a serious bout of COVID. That plus the stresses of business and family have really beaten me up, physically. I am now up and out of bed, but I continue to live life in the slow lane.
I don’t want you to worry about me. I’m not gone, but I do ask your patience.
If I am your GM, I will return soon. If I am your player, I will understand if you remove me from the game.
Best Regards
Scott / Tarondor
GM Eldest |
So sorry to hear, Tarondor, please be well and take care. Recovery can't be rushed, so take your time.
GM Eldest |
Apologies for my absence, I was on holiday and after that I got swamped with catching up at work. I will post today.
