Qitarah happily followed Jinglemane and watched that the kids didn’t wander off the path exploring. Although she had never used it before, she had heard that the Maze connected several of the lodges together.

Although the professor had the only map, Qitarah did look at the various sign posts and made note of other landmarks along the way. Always best to keep track of your path, in case you needed to retrace your steps!

When coming out of the maze, she was happy that Jinglemane asked the professor about the skies. Hopefully the two of them would figure out what was going on. She focused on watching their charges, making sure none of the students wandered off.

As Jinglemane goes to ask Professor Krelson what the deal is he has trouble locating the gnome. At first the little lion assumes they might just be lost in the crowd, but looking around you realize Krelson is nowhere to be seen.

Under the light of the wrong-colored sky whihc none of you are quite certain exactly what is causing it or what it might mean Eddie and Kaz call out to the children to establish order. None of them seem to be paying that much attention though: instead they're still talking about the trip through the maze and about the fancy-looking lodge ahead of them.

Suddenly, Hari darts a look across the group and asks, in an alarmed tone, Where’s Professor Krelsun? Where are the chaperones? The other students fall quiet, all looking around - including right by you - and yelling out your names.

Slipp enjoys the trip through the maze. They hang round with a random bunch of youngsters, trying to blend in - and managing height wise at least. The whole "blending in" maybe also assisted by Slipps tendency to also get distracted by interesting sights. They oooh at the statue, along with the others.

When the maze is finally exited, Slipp eyes up the sky... "Wow, it is almost like the First World here."

And then realises that perhaps that is not an ideal place to be with a bunch of kids.

"Perhaps we should go check out the lodge?"

Eddie is able to make contact with Slipp just fine and pokes the gnome as they're looking upwards though they're not sure exactly what's happening here either. Kit on the other hand, finds that as she goes to tap Vim on the shoulder her hand passes right through the goblin with only the slightest moment of resistance!

An edge of Vim's tunic seems to slightly flutter at the sylph's attempt, but Vim doesn't seem to notice as the goblin turns back towards the hedges.

Maybe theyre stuck in the Maze still and took a wrong turn somewhere in there. We should look for them! she suggests to the others.
Hari puts up a hand to halt her. Absolutely not! Going in the Maze is strictly forbidden! Besides, this might just be a test.
Then let’s go inside for help, Tels speaks up and gestures toward Woodsedge Lodge. Its a Pathfinder Lodge. There'll be Pathfinders inside who know what to do.

The other schoolkids mutter a general agreement to the idea, and start walking over towards the Lodge. Climbing up the front staircase, Tels knocks, and when no one answers he opens the doors and leads the class inside.

You all are able to see and hear each other just fine right now.

Jinglemane makes a powerful leap towards Alec, putting all his might behind it. The lion passes right through the Ustalvan child just like Kit did, but as the poppet moves through him he feels a slight resistance as Jinglemane moves against Alec's coat. The force of the leap *pushes* him forwards, and as Jinglemane goes Alec's collar shifts and pops up.

The boy looks around in reaction to this, his gaze again passing right over the spaces where Jinglemane and the others are. Smoothing down his collar with a frown, Alec goes "May as well head inside. Get away from the wind before it gives us all a chill." and heads inside the lodge as well.

It looks like while you're intangible to the students, with effort you are able to slightly manipulate light items (or negligible bulk)

Slipp wrote:

As Slipp follows the students she's frustrated to find the last one has shut the door behind them - how rudely polite! The gnome yanks at the handle but finds her hands simply passing through it. Instead she is able to simply walk through the door, with the strange sensation that feels like you're pushing through water with a strong current.

Inside the lodge’s great room appears abandoned. Books lie open on reading tables and a fire is burns cheerily in the room’s massive hearth. A set of animal-shaped drouge tiles stands spread across a table as if interrupted mid-game, and an account book rests next to an abacus on the table in the southwestern corner. Hushed exchanges between students are the only sounds.

A few students begin settling into the cozy chairs as Alec Gracekin calls out, “Hello? Anyone there?” When no answer comes, he shrugs and says, “I suppose we can do whatever we like,” before collapsing sideways into a chair and throwing his feet up on a fine mahogany table.

im going to get my assignment done Geltra counters. there's supposed to be an interesting Taldan artifact in this room. it shouldn’t be hard to find. Most of the rest of the students groan at the suggestion that they should do schoolwork under these circumstances, but the kobold begins examining the metal plaques around the room, looking slightly abashed at having spoken up in front of everyone. Her pigeon, Ruffles, coos contentedly on her shoulder.

Vim meanwhile is scurrying about the room, looking at every tabletop and trying to open any drawers she can. Maybe they left a note, that would be the thing to do right? Oh! or maybe they DID leave a note but its in a code we need to figure out!

Kit is quite surprised when her hand passes right through Vim. Even more surprised when she sees Jinglemane jump through Alec.

Seeing Slipp is able to walk through doors, Kit follows him into the lodge.

This should prove a challenge!

Seeing that Jinglemane is already trying a note, she goes over to the animal shaped tiles and looks for one shaped like Jinglemane, Ranginori, a lion, or a dragon. She carries it over to set it on Jinglemane’s note.

Assuming she can move it…
They are bound to notice a tile floating through the air to land on the note!

Also, I don’t think you ever gave me the results of my attempt to Recall Knowledge Pathfinder Lore of anything like this happening before with the maze. Recall Knowledge is a secret roll which is why I didn’t roll it.

If any of the kids move towards the library, we might want to follow them so we can research what has happened!

Apologies if I didn't call it out. None of you recall anything similar to your current state happening before, nor are entirely certain what is happening. (did roll some secret checks for many of you)

Jinglemane furious scribble a note and tries to place it in Vim's hand. But the parchment drops straight through the goblin, and even nudging it in front of her Vim doesn't seem to notice! Snarling, the lion then moves towards the chair, but all the poppet's might doesn't seem enough to even start to budge such a heavy object.
The gear and items you have on you seems just as imperceptable to the students as you are.

While Kit has trouble getting the tile to move, Jinglemane bounds over and with a forceful SHOVE knocks the tile loose. Already near the board's edge it clatters to the ground, causing many of the students the shriek in alarm at the sudden sound.

Ah! is that a ghost? Are most lodges haunted do you think? We did end up at Woodseged Lodge right, and not one of the other spookier ones? Vim says, while Hari approaches and picks up the tile.

It's just a fallen tile Vim. It may have been brushed up against by one of us as we -

The half-elf cuts themselves off as while rising she sees words slowly being etched out on a nearby ledger. Eddie finds himself able to push the abacus with difficulty and shove the quill across the parchemtn to form words, though the process is slow.** After about a minute, the leshy's message is visible by the students who crowd around.

So you're here? Tels asks, looking around the area nearby the ledge. Despite focusing in your area, he and the others still don't seem to be able to see you. All of you? And the professor? Are the other Pathfinders in the Lodge there too?

"Ask them is they're spirits!" Alec calls out from the chair (though you see his feet moving quickly off of the table and back onto the floor. "You'd be surprised how often that happens in Ustalav."

Seemingly at this suggestion, a younger dwarven girl races to a chair, grabs a blanket from it, and then chucks it over the ledger stand...where it passes straight through Eddie.

Jinglemane gets down and shoves the plaques across the floor to their proper or at least based on your discussion you hope their proper items. The plaques occasionally make a mildly irritating *scritch* against the stone floor as they go, but Grelta watches them move - seemingly by themselves to her - with fascination.

thank you. i was never good with wordplay in taldane. so, if the twinkling it about that rock and the tail isnt a horse but a horn then. the kobold looks at the stuffed owlbear as Jnglemane gets its plaque in place an owlbear? but an owlbear isnt a person or advisor, unless - her eyes widen oh! this must be beaky. oh, no, beaky the third. stavian the first had an owlbear companion. i cant believe it ended up here!

As Grelta seems excited that the firs part of the class' assignment is complete, Vim speaks up. So, if our chaperones can see us - even if we can't see them which is weird - then I guess we're okay? But where is everyone else? She looks around. Maybe we should go looking to find an adult who's actually here. Or at least we can complete the work they gave us so when they get back we'll be all good!

I don't know Tels says, a bit concerned. Didn't they tell us to stay together?
But also to do our homework Hari counters.
Alec stands up and stretches, agreeing with the half-elf. "We can do both I suppose. All the younglings can stay together in this foyer. A few of us can split to look around - in pairs" he says with a conciliatory gesture towards Tels. "If anyone finds anything or something goes wrong, yell out. It's not that big a building."
After a brief quick discussion, the rest of the students seem to agree. You see Geltra and Hari head towards the left wing, while Tels and Vim go ahead into the halls opposite the entrance. Alec meanwhile head to the right.

Jinglemane:
The vibe you're getting from Alec isn't evil, so much as 'kind of a dick'. He seems to take care to be very well-behaved and friendly when adults are around, but alone you're seeing him act like rules are things that apply to other people - such as right now when he just so happens to be going about without a buddy.

If that doesn't work, Jinglemane says, "We need to split up and follow them, and need a good communicator in each group. Who goes where?" Jinglemane glares at Alec. "I want two people on HIM."

"I don't like this. Teleportation mishaps are bad."

"The kids are okay, though," says Zak.

"They can't see the people here. They're not quite okay. ...unless the people here did something, and it's them who aren't okay."

Kaz and Zak turn in different directions to watch the retreating students.

"Split up. Yes. We'll go--"
"Someone should stay here with the younger ones. And I think we should split up."

Kaz looks startled at the suggestion, but Zak shook his head. "We can communicate over a distance. It makes sense for us to be in different places if the group has to split up."

"But.. you'll disappear if we get too separated. I don't know what'll happen if I try to call you again while this is going on."

"Oh. Yeah..."

How big is the building?

On of the smaller kids hears Jinglemane's faint voice through the sousaphone. She replies with a smile towards it. That's right, they're not going off alone! And gives the instrument a thumbs up.

The lodge is about 130 feet x 110 feet. There is also a second floor to the building (you can see the balcony ringing this main hall and its accessible by the stairwell Slipp is standing by) though currently all the students are staying on this level.

If you would like to split the party - Pathfinder Agent 101 you know :) - just let me know how you're divvying yourselves up.

Since we are limited in what we can do, I think we should all stay as one group. As the students said, the lodge isn’t that big. We can run to where we are needed.

Pointing to Tels and Vim, she says “Let’s follow them.

"I'm more worried about Alec. If he is by himself, maybe we should keep an eye on him first." suggests Slipp.

Allowing Alec to go on his own for a moment may teach him not to split the party.

Pondering a moment, she says “Most likely this isn’t the real lodge. If it were, we would see other people here.

I’m really not sure how you make a copy of a place and then connect it to the Maze of the Open Road, but then I’m not sure how the maze works.

In any case, it is probably best to assume this didn’t happen by accident. I’ve no idea of who or why, but it feels like someone wanted this to happen.

She suggests a quick game of Rock-Paper-Scissors if the group can’t decide who to follow.
In other words, GM rolls a dice to decide between follow Alec or follow Tels and Vim.

[ooc]Happy to go with what others decide here, Slipp is quite easily distracted by... well.. virtually anything.[/b]"

"Ohhh... then the question is... is this a test for us.. for the students... or for the society? I mean... who else other than the society has access to the Maze? This seems a little elaborate for a trap for a load of students, unless any come from especially influential families. Or maybe it is an enemy of the society and losing the students, or us... is aimed to damage their reputation?"

Slipp, curious... tries to walk up into the air, that is float upward, just as they did going through the door. That is... if Slipp concentrates... does gravity still affect them?

Then she starts to follow Alec.

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

After a bit of debate, you decide keeping a close eye on whatever Alec's doing first might be the best idea. You go after him to the right. On ground level - as much as Slipp tries to believe, it seems you're insubstantial state is not quite incorporeal and whatever weird laws of physics have left you, gravity isn't one of them. No fun flying for you :(

Following Alec brings you into a quiet library chamber. Its shelves are filled with creased old maps, bound collections of reports, and yellowing historical records. In addition to reference books and adventuring tomes you notice that a surprisingly large number of romance novels also line the shelves, with titles like 'Lord Rumplefield’s Bride', 'Yearnings of Autumn', and 'Abandoned by the Arclord'.

You see Alec already strolling through the rows of bookshelves with a finger brushing against book spines as he goes. The boy is muttering to himself. "Taldor history, trashy romance, trashy romance, dry magic theory, trashy romance, long list of old dead Pahtfinders, trashy romance..." he sighs to himself. "Thousands of adventurers and this is what they think is interesting?"

His eyes then fall to a bookshelf on the northern wall The 'left-side' of the Slides map is 'North' that stands out oddly from the wall. With a quick glance at the door to the lobby he had shut behind himself, Alec strides towards it and moves it aside to reveal a door marked “Restricted: Sensitive.” A small alarm bell is attached to the wall above the door, but the wire connecting it to the doorway has been disconnected.

The boy smirks to himself. "The good stuff must be in here,” and starts to fiddle for something in his pack. Something that looks like thieves' tools...

Kit is unsurprised and unimpressed that Alec has immediately gone for the restricted section of the library. She decides to let him know she is there before he gets the door open.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Somebody’s watching you!

She doubts that will be enough to stop him, but it is only right that he be warned first.

Slipp quickly looks around the library for a helpful title. There amongst the trashy novels she finds it! "Forbidden love!". It's a short, trashy Taldane novel set when Andor was separating off from the Taldor empire.

The protagonists are not important here (two distant cousins deeply in love, but brought up on opposite sides of the border). It is the title that is important.

Slipp tries to float the book across toward the hidden doorway in a theatrical manner.

Really? One of the "particularly reliable" students immediately goes to break in to the one room he's not allowed in? And isn't focused on finding an adult in this situation?

"We'll have to tell his teacher about this one." Hm. There's an idea. How to communicate that? Kaz shoves the letter with the rules and the list of "reliable" students in front of Alec's face, though he doesn't expect that to work as the paper is in his own section of reality.

A book then. Something "off-limits" or "personal" or "teacher."
Oh! "Report!" "A Report on the Invasion"--oh, perfect! Oh, it's about bugs. Grubs that got moved from one place to another by careless travelers and proved a nuisance to local flora.

Well, close enough. Kaz attempts to drop it, as noisily as possible, on the floor.

Kit looks like she is about to say something as Jinglemane goes bounding through the walls, but then just shakes her head and sighs.

Looking to Kaz, she says “Seems what Alec most wants is to break the rules without getting caught.

Looking at the door to the restricted section, she adds “It really is too bad we never got a chance to even set the alarm Eddie prepared.
