Kit listens intently as Zak attempts to move through the door. She wants to be ready if they find trouble.
| GM Zoomba |
Kit tries to shift herself through the door. Where other closed doors have felt like pushing through a storng current, this movement makes the slyph heel as though she is awash in wild rapids. As she finally steps through she blinks: and sees Hari and Jinglemane and many of the others from across the hall. Rather than emerge into the room beyond Grelta's strange door, you find yourself coming back through another chamber on the upper floor!
Qitarah al-Tabib of Sedeq
|
“Huh!”
Kit looks behind her and then back at the door she tried to walk through.
“Not what I expected, but very disorienting and somewhat strange.”
Eddie 'Bo' Leetus
|
Eddie watches along in interest as Kit disappears and then reappears somewhere's else "Huh. Was it like walking down the path? Should we all try?" Eddie cocks their cap to the side in a questioning look, poking their finger at the wall gingerly.
"Maybe the children need to open the door for us. Do we plan to find the lodestone inside?"
Qitarah al-Tabib of Sedeq
|
Looking at Eddie, Kit says “If you like being swept along by a raging river when there is no water, give it a try.”
Smiling, she admits “Sorry, that is the best analogy I can come up with for the feeling. It is very strange, but this whole situation has been strange.”
“We might want to try the other doors since that one is acting strangely. Might get some more information or something that helps us deal with whatever is happening in there.”
| GM Zoomba |
Kit tries phasing through one of the other still-sealed doors and finds the same bizarre feeling returning: she has the sense of being rushed along and finds herself appearing in front of a different door on the floor. The bizarre effect seems to be blanketing all the doors on this level.
Communicating for Grelta to hold off for a moment, you can have the other students open the doors on the opposite wing. Those seem to be three move neat but lived-in quarters, as well as a larger space that looks unoccupied and kept for guests. Once the doors are opened by the kids however (who still seem a bit freaked out by the odd sensory assaults up here, but dont seem extra freaked turning the door handles) each of you does find yourself able to enter normally and look around.
Unfortunately, no lodestone seems to be found in any of those seven chambers. :(

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

And Jinglemane bounds down the hall as hard as he can to show the direction, joining Kit.
He bounds around the empty rooms as the kids open them.
Feel free to roll a Perception to search, GM.
"Wow, these rooms bite the big one, and not in the awesome way that lions do..."
Qitarah al-Tabib of Sedeq
|
Kit looks around the rooms to see if any have a mirror that could be moved into the hallway.
“Be nice if we could get a mirror in place at the end of the hallway, so the students could see us.”
Once the feasibility of that has been determined and any potential moving is done…
“Best we group ourselves so we can deal with any trouble. Only one place left to look!”

All right, last room to check then Hari says as the students And you all, though their less able to tell that gather around the last sealed door on the floor. She turns the handle and swings the door open.
Inside the last room you see a large bed covered in fine linens is the centerpiece of this well-furnished room, and a sturdy table surrounded by three chairs sits in its northeast corner. Several eye-catching curios rest on top of the room’s chest of draws, including a mirror with a gilded frame, a mother-of-pearl box holding talcum powder, and a polished lodestone more than a foot in diameter. Two lamps in wall sconces light the room and a thick carpet woven with a wayfinder pattern lays on the floor.
Of course even looking at the room for too long is disorienting: Shimmering images of the bed dance across the floor, loose papers float through the air in slow processions, and the walls ripple like a pond’s surface each time someone in the room takes a step. The pile of the carpet grows six inches deep in the course of a second, and then subsides back to normal.
Kaz and Jinglemane immediately can tell this room is at the center of the chaotic and reality-rippling forces that have been affecting you all. But so close to it the 'phasing' of reality is even more concentrated. You know that you all - and the students - will only be able to affect or interact with things in the room if you are in the room yourselves.
Eddie 'Bo' Leetus

Eddie hoists up their shield, look around for a moment, then waddle inside to start looking around. "That the lodestone?" They point to the chest of drawers. Eddie tries to avoid the wild carpet as best they can.
| GM Zoomba |
Ninja'd while writing a long bit :p. And it is the lodestone, but:
Of course the rest of your allies - Pathfinders and students - are probably more focused on exactly what's on the bed. The body of Professor Krelsun lies unconscious atop the sheets. Wrapped tightly around the gnome is a much larger ghostly serpentine creature coiling about the teacher with both its translucent scaled body and a pair of clawed hands. Extra disturbing: the creature's head appears to be plunged through Krelsun's, its own skull phasing directly into the teacher's temple.
Professor! - Mr. Krelsun! - Professor! - professor! the students all cry in unison. As they yell, you see the ghostly creature's long tail twitch and rise from where it had been haging down over the side of the bed. A bit up the creature's body from the end of the tail there looks to be a strange "ripple" in reality, and from that ripple to the tail's scaled end that section seems very solid indeed. It sways back and forth, but seems particularly fixated on your five...and Vim and Tels as they clutch their shield and pitcher.

You do notice the lodestone in the room on the bureau.
As this room appears to be the center of the disturbance, it would be an optimal place to trying to enact the Material Failsafe. To do so, you can try to Communicate From Beyond with the students to get them to properly coordinate their actions to the right signal. All three foci will need to be activated in the same round: a Success on Communicating will get one student to activate theirs, a Crit all three. To Communicate in this way, in the heat of this tense situation, you'll need to be adjacent to the material you're communicating with (so next to the specific student if 'yelling', next to the table if writing, the bedside table if flickering a lamp, etc.

Kit realizes this isn’t going to go smoothly. She has no idea what that creature is, but this does not look good.
She immediately blesses Jinglemane’s weapon, telling him “Now you’ve got a big bite!”
She then moves over to the dresser where the lodestone is.
If there is room behind the dresser, she would go there since it would provide cover.

I moved Eddie back to their position since I jumped your second post.
Eddie's eyes go wide as the door swings open, they momentarily try putting their own hand into their head and looking confused. They raise their shield in defense, hollering at Vim when the time is right: "Now!"

Appreciated Eddie, but you can squeak back into the room where you were (you’d need to be inside it anyway if you’re trying to Communicate)
Kit enhances Jinglemane’s ‘maw’ and races inside while Eddie defends himself and yells for Vim to speak the word.
”Now!”
As the leshy speaks however, the tail appears to React and a shimming bit of color appears accompanied by a brief but loud noise of clanging bells.
Bot Eddie will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25But Eddie’s voice manages to cut through this attempt at distraction! At his encouragement, Vin hurried into the chamber muttering Narvenas she glances down at her pitcher.
Most of the creature on the bed and around Professor Krelsun remains still and wrapped tight around the gnome. The solid tail end poking through the rift however seems very animated. It lashes out at Eddie standing by the doorway.

Ya a bit of confusion as to how all this gets coordinated, so long as the GM gives us the yay or nay on how technical we need to orchestrate this stuff. The Exploit is a failure. PA kicks in fine though :)
As Jinglemane rushes up bouncing on the bed it’s not clear if the tail fully understands the popper’s threats. It probably responds to his actions at least - the leonin swings the leiomano against the scales with a *thud* and leaves a bad bruise!
As he does, Tels edges into the room, shield in hand and raised warily against the bed. Is this it?

While Zak advances to provide support against the tail, Kaz whipsers and ruffles some hanging cloths whihc prompts Hari to close her eyes and whisper Narven. The kobold's efforts at crossing through realities is so strong Tels seems to notice as well and quickly Narvens all the same.
Around the room you feel a faint *shudder*ing. The walls of the room ripple again and the carpet surges with a new spiral of colors. The ghostly creature's tail continues to twitch as it tightens about Eddie but it seems to pale slightly and for the first time you see the rest of its intangible body slightly shudder.
did it work? Grelta asks from the hallway looking in.
I don't know! Vim yells back. Something seemed to happen! Is that it? The professor looks still grabbed by the thing tho
The Failsafe ritual has been activated once, and that is having an effect. However, the layers of reality still seem not fully anchored...yet (you can try to have the students activate it again next round)

As the tail coils further around Eddie, the leshy find it hard to concentrate on anything else. Assuming the DC was 19?
Yup, you slip out!
As Eddie slips themselves free and manages to draw forth a bit of magic through their odd ailment while backing away, Slipp enters and tries to blast the tail with searing magic.
I am adjusting the botting to have Slipp Stride inside the room instead of Glaring as otherwise the spell wouldn't have even been able to be cast. As a reminder: the reality fluctuations at the center means that nothing outside the room/in the hallway can affect anything in the room - including attacks! (if remembering this would have affected Eddie's 'Step' location you can retcon)
Unfortunately the flames don't seem to hit an especially vulnerable section of the tail. Eddie's head seems to shift back into its proper place at leas though!
Writhing, the you see some of the tail's bruises lighten as it whips out at Kaz twice. The kobold easily dodges the first thrash but its 'backhand' whacks him something good!

On the bed, Zak and Jinglemane attacking the tip from both sides bedvils the tail as it dodges one way only to move into the strike from the other angle. Both fighters land a blow Jinglmane's a big one thanks to Kit's magical boost

Hoo boy that's a busty round :) All right, let's go through and resolve some stuff:
Slipp focuses all their energy on affecting Vim across time and space. Given all that strain the tug and whisper the goblin feels and hears is a faint result, but it's enough. Oh, Narven! the kid says, and once again the whole room seems to *ripple* once more. The ghostly form around Krelsun is now starting to shake, while its tail starts to seem less solid out of the corner of your eyes as you glance at it.
A clumsier Jinglemane takes the opportunity to bash at the tail-end. Another solid blow sends the tip slamming down against the bedsheets! Badly bleeding, the end recedes back and through the strange rift in the air. You see it - still clearly hurt - now lying flat and limp down at the room's floor.
Kit works to heal her allies with both magic and science. And Eddie yells and throws paper about and scratches the table in a frenzy. All three students in the room notice the commotion and yell Narven! with all their might.
The room ripples and actually shakes as each of you feels a strange wave of *something* wash through you. The ghostly serpentine thing lifts its elongated vaguely-crocadilian head out of Krelsun's temple as the energy spreads and with a silent yell vanishes. You hear a yell from the doorway as Grelta rushes in and right up to Kaz. kaz! youre here again! oh, and jinglemane and kit and everyone. youre all all right!
The other three students in the room set their items down and also look at you. So, it worked? The ritual worked! Hari says with a smile.
From the bed a faint moan slips out from the old gnome sitrring and propping himself up I do say, where am I? Professor Krelsun says, looking disoriented.
COMBAT OVER!!!

"What?" Eddie looks up from the commotion, scratches the side of their cap and takes some wads of cotton from their ear holes. "Oh, HI! You can see us now then yes? Good." Eddie smiles and pats Nels on the shoulder "Good work, just like a Pathfinder should."
They move over to the large bed and flop down for a breather "Hello Professor, have a nice nap?" They snicker a bit at the ill-timed joke.
Crits.. love 'em or hate 'em, they decide things! Let's hope the good crit luck transfers over to my poor Kernal!

Smiling, Kit assures the students “Yes, with your help it worked!”
Turning to Professor Krelsun, she says “In the venture captain’s chambers, in their bed.” She is obviously amused by this situation.
“It seems some sort of creature took a liking to you professor. You’ll have to ask Jinglemane about it, it isn’t a creature I recognize.”
Gesturing to the students, she adds “The good news is that your students have done most of their assignments, plus restored the material plane in this area. I think that should be worth some extra credit!”
Looking to the students, she says “I believe the only assignment that hasn’t been finished is the combat techniques in the courtyard. Is that correct?”
Jinglemane
|
"Ooh, combat techniques!" Jinglemane bounces on the bed. "That sounds like fun homework!"
Then Jinglemane asks the kids, "Can I give you all hugs? You restored reality! You helped us with our mission! You've been proactive with your homework, and caring about your team! You've been awesome!"
Then Jinglemane pauses, thinking a moment about the kid that worried him. "We should also pick up Alec..."

What, oh! the professor exclaims as Kit describes the creature that was around him and the students talk slightly over each other to explain the events of the last hour. How upsetting. I, I'll need to speak with J when we return. But is everyone all right? Are all the students unharmed?!?
All right everyone, gather round!!! a new voice yells out loudly from outside the room. Those of you near the doorway can tell its coming from the main hall below, and seems to be emitting from a half-even woman in full Pathfinder gear. We need to get a head count going!
Professor Krelsun seems to be extremely nervous and embarrassed when you mention the creature that was by him. His concern over the students' health is quite genuine however.

Eddie makes their way into the hall to investigate the new voice, still clutching the silky embroidered pillow from the bed "Hello. I'm Eddie!" They sniff the pillow and smile and wave.
Jinglemane
|
Jinglemane rushes out to the hallway to look below at this new speaker. Once he sees her, he'll mirror himself down. Does he recognize her? "I'm Jinglemane. Who are you?"
If she's half-even, is she full odd?

Kit carefully picks up the tail that the creature left behind on the floor. Looking at the bed and then the professor, she says “You may want to straighten the bed.” before following Jinglemane down into the main hall of the lodge. She encourages any students to move that way as well.
Slipp

Slipp seems to emerge from whatever distraction had been occupying them.
"Oh, I'm glad that is over. What was the crocodile like thing? I've never ever heard of anything like that either in the mundane or the first worlds."
Sorry, looks like I picked a bad couple of days to be away, but you all rocked the battle anyway.
Kaz, Kobold Summoner

"Oh good!" says Kaz, moving out onto the balcony. (That is a balcony, right? He'll head down instead if necessary.) "You must be one of the Pathfinders here? All of the field agent chaperones are up here, as is the professor and several of the older students--who performed admirably in a crisis. Everything okay down there, Alec?"
| GM Zoomba |
Moving out to the balcony you see the half-eLVEN :p woman standing in the hall’s center. Many other Pathfinder agents are also moving about the edges of the room, but the woman in the center is clearly in charge. She looks up as you emerge. Agents, thank the Gods for you. Venture Captain Armeline Jirneau. You managed to get us out of quite the pickle!
As Vim, Grelta, and the others come down the Venture Captain speaks to all of the students. Well, that certainly wasn’t the sort of visit we were expecting to give you all. But while we may have been detained by, well by the sort of circumstances that can arise when Pathfindering, I want you to know that I and the rest of the lodge’s staff were able to observe you all the whole while, even if we weren't able to let you know. And most of you did a great job in keeping calm and together in a strange time. you all notice Armeline give a stern look towards Alec as she says the word ‘most’.
I want to especially give thanks to Tels Olsen, Vim Moneymaker, Hari, and Grelta. the VC says looking up at them on the balcony. Vim, Hari and Tels beam as Grelta blushes. They demonstrated excellent problem solving and support to help resolve our little ‘disappearing’ issue. And our visiting agents she points to you five were instrumental in getting everything back to normal before any lasting damage was done. Let’s give them a round of applause!
The children and lodge staff clap for you all.
Now, I know the plan was for you all to spend the day here, but I’m afraid we’re going to need to get you all back home earlier than expected. Us Pathfinders will need to deal with some things to make sure everything’s all right here. So start getting your things ready.
As the students and lodge staff get to work, Armeline heads over to your party and the Professor. Pleasure to meet you all.she offers a hand to Eddie and Jinglemane as they introduce themselves. Even as a Pathfinder I have to say: that was a weird one.

Holding up the dead creature’s tail, Kit asks “Will this be of any use? If not, perhaps contact a taxidermist and make it into a trophy.”
Looking towards the students, she says “Would it be alright to make use of the courtyard for a short while? They wanted to see some of our combat techniques and weren’t able to see the actual combats.”
Given the post in discussion, I’m going to assume she agrees.
Kit is going to focus on how knowing other team member’s abilities can be important in battle. She will demonstrate some of the techniques she uses to heal people, calling over Eddie since they are still hurt.
Battle Medicine E vs DC 15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Critical success on healing: 4d8 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 7) = 23
She will also demonstrate spell attacks with the only one she has.
Divine Lance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Good damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Eddie stays put as Kit fixes the bruising on their stipe "Oh, you're good at that. I have thousands of friends in the forest that would love to meet you.. and fix up those slug holes.." They smile and nod.
"You can ask friends to help you fight too, right Kaz?" Eddie waves around their bundle of dried herbs and mushrooms, a strange lumbering creature with a blank stare erupts from the earthen ground nearby.
After it does so tendrils erupt from its body, grabbing out at both Eddie and Kit. "Hrm, extra friendly this one!" Eddie maintains the summons in case anyone wishes to practice on the target.
Jinglemane
|
"Yay, combat homework!" Jinglemane demonstrates the importance of his favorite fighting tactics: learning foe weaknesses, mobility, flanking and 'biting'. "But the most important part is teamwork! Flanking not only helps you, it also helps your buddies!"
◈ Exploit Vulnerability (Esoteric Lore): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
◈ +1 Lion’s Bite (Empowered Leiomano, Personal Antithesis): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 = 21
Bludgeoning / Slashing damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 + 3 = 9
Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 5
After the combat session is over, Jinglemane pulls out his notebook, and asks all five of the student leaders if they would be willing to be interviewed. "I publish The Mane Event, a journal that covers Pathfinder tips for lairs, dares and hair care! As you all represent the next generation of Pathfinders, I'd love to do a youth issue focusing on all of you. Can you share your style tips and what you learned today on our joint mission? I think this could be our best issue yet!"
