Not sure why Aygavan is trusting to that fact.

Aygavan's whip no longer finds the halfling anywhere to Aygavan's northwest within 15 ft.

He's +20 to stealth while moving, he can very much move through your reach without being detected unless you have tremorsense or a similar ability. He can move 20 feet as an action or up to 40 feet per round, he has to be within that radius. He can't move through an enemy space so we can body block him inside this room, potentially.

GM: May I use one of my bombs to start a fire? If we can get some smoke in here it should reveal his outline, and he'll start coughing.

Yes but he can't stealth at full speed and stealthing at more than half speed imposes a -5 penalty. Zaborjca, sure you can start a fire in this abandoned building. It might indicate where the summoner is but you guys would still suffer miss chance for not seeing him properly.

Ghorza can't quite land a blow on the elemental!

Pretty sure Maeve is unconscious and not threatening anyway and so doesn't provide a flank.

Zaborjca sets the scene of the crime on fire! That will help, right?

Next round there will be enough smoke to potentially help reveal the halfling.

Tocash lands one solid blow and knocks the earth elemental back to where it came from! Aygavan gets ready for trouble! The local priestess casts a spell to help you out "Defend Diobel!"

The halfling is knocked unconscious! And Ghorza destroys the last elemental. Now there is just the unconscious summoner, the unconscious Maeve, a burning building, and a curious crowd outside to deal with! The fire spreads further...

You can act freely but don't take more than one or two rounds worth of action at a time since there is a time-sensitive, fire component.

Ghorza felt like she was going to pass out, given what she had just been through. But now was not the time to rest. Turning, she left the building and shouted to the curious crowd outside:

"There is a fire! We have caught the villain who summoned these monsters and who lit these flames. Quick, get water and help us extinguish this, before the flames spread to your homes!"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I won't call for a bluff from Ghorza because I think she was around the corner of the building enough to not see that it was actually Zaborjca who started the fire...

The crowd cheers and starts to get buckets of water. One of the agents of the Gold Cartel steps forward. "But how can you know this person summoned the monsters? Perhaps you have just grabbed a small and innocent man!"

Opposed diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

But the crowd isn't swayed! They want a culprit and the fire keeps them busy.

"The facts of the matter, for those of us who are keen to make them known, are this:" Zab says while glancing meaningfully at the Cartel members. "First, the beasts that appeared here today are common fodder for summons by wizardly and sorcerous types. Two, we witnessed them being summoned without witnessing magical manifestations. Three, this man was invisible near the scene of the crime, guarded by more summoned monsters and a magic trap, and attacked us rather than explain himself or help rescue civilians. He should be turned over to the guard for that last piece alone.

"And fifth, I have a lead. Some witnesses saw a halfling summon a crocodile to attack some tavern thugs a few days back. Only his eyes turned purple, no other signs of magic. We are keeping this man in our custody until I can track down the witnesses, get a description, and force him to cast a spell so we can get a read on his arcane signature. If the description matches, we have probable cause to put him on trial. If he gets all purple-eyed when he casts a spell, then the trial is a mere formality."

That's definitely high enough! All you PCs understand that as you are intended to but the Golden Cartel agents won't be able to sense motive out the meaning of that even with nat 20s. Anyone want to respond to that?

Tocash looks at the Golden Cartel agents and says, "I have little patience for this. If you intend to free your companion try it now. Or go away."

The agents act surprised by Tocash's challenge but suddenly you see they are loosing their blades from their sheathes!

GM screen:

Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Roll init then read this:

Go if you beat 1d20+3=17. Map updated. Enemies have red outlines bc hard to see.

Ghorza, Dwarven Swashbuckler HP (13/15) AC (18/12/16) Saves (3/4/3, +1 Mind Affecting) CMD (15, +4 Stability) Initiative (+2) Perception (+8) Resolve (0/1) Panache (1/1)

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Hit v FF: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage B, S or P: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 6) + 11 = 23

Now *that* is how you start a new level!

Seeing the agent loosen their blades, Ghorza stood up straight and raised a hand. A stone axe formed in it, and she sent it flying towards the nearest agent. Obviously the agent didn't see it coming, as the axe impacted with a *thud* into the man's chest.

Tocash shakes his head slowly as he watches them go for their weapons.

Zaborjca and Maeve can still go. I'll give it about 11 hours more.
