Strange Aeons is a Mythos-adjacent psychological horror Adventure Path, but while Call of Cthulhu is its spiritual cousin, it remains a Pathfinder campaign. Your characters will grow in power, and ultimately, be able to face the threats that exist (compared to CoC, where you just go insane and die). Aeons has a lot of what might be called ‘bad vibes’, and experiencing those bad vibes (and getting through / over them) is a large portion of what the Adventure Path is.

It's unclear to me, but I'm going to post an action. I really think it would help advance things along if we were clearly in Initiative. With attacks being made and people losing hit points, we're not really doing this narratively like we were in the opening montage.


Yeah, I could definitely have run that better. My bad. The cutscene-y-ness of it all was something I should have planned better for.

DM Monty, is the pouch in the trunk distinct from Vano's spell component pouch, which I assume would be in the pile by the furnace?

It is the spell component pouch; the trunk was where 'the interesting stuff' got put by the 'doctor'.

No, but I assume that there is some climbing that needs to be done and that it isn't necessarily automatic.

While we wait, can the group please establish a couple of Marching Orders; standard layouts. I would like to know a marching order for when you are traveling in narrow corridors or spaces (such as a duct out of a furnace), so

With a Stealth of +11, a Perception of +6, and an AC of 19, Slip makes a good scout. I'm happy for him to be up front, even though he might fall back if we run into trouble.

I suppose Odeta can go anywhere as needed in the marching orders. So if anyone has a specific preference for their character go ahead and pick your place.

I'd imagine Allera will toward the front with her high AC and lower mobility? Odeta could also go toward the front, behind her, or all the way in the back if we want that kind of protection at the rear. We don't have any super squishy characters though so maybe guarding the rear is less needed in this case?

Cole would prefer the front or the back. That gives him some basic clear space to use his fire magic as needed.

Really not too concerned about the marching order positions. Typically lightly armored weakness and better than NPC attack ability, but takes things away from opponents, so . . ..

I think that the main benefit of establishing a marching order is to ensure that when we decide to move from one scene/room to the next that we're not always trying to figure out who's going first. In my experience, it's a decent way to speed along a moderately important aspect of gameplay that preserves player autonomy without bogging things down. Otherwise, the GM might have to indicate for everyone to place their tokens where we want them on a map. If we establish a marching order, the GM can just place us where we agreed to usually go unless we indicate in writing that we have done something different.

I understand the advantages of having a marching order, and recognize the importance of such time-saving devices in the slow pace of PbP gaming.

I don't really care much where in the order my character sits.

Luneca is our most replaceable team member, is low enough to the ground that she shouldn't provide cover from missiles to enemies in combat with her in many situations, and needs to be able to close distance quickly. I propose putting her towards the front and Vano near enough to give her orders.

Incidentally, if anyone can think of a way to get Mage Armor on her with our current lineup, let me know.

The climb DC is a whopping 5. I'll only need one roll from each of you. If you were doing more lateral, Die Hard crawling through ducts, I would take Escape Artist because of the squeezy squeezy, but this turns out to be a fairly straight forward vertical ascent.

EDIT: And no, I think I understand what you're trying to do with the fire, and it won't require any rolls, unless you secretly have Craft: Pyre on your sheet.

Speaking to the order of the group, my basic suggestion based on general group speed and what people have said so far: (These are just a suggestion...feel free to switch things up.)

I'm mostly ranged touch attacks with fire, with the occasional Burning Hands effect. I'm not bad with a sword, but making fire is his main thing.

I'm back and putting together a post. Sorry about the delay.


The map of the room is here. I haven't tried using Sheets before, but its definitely scratching the NetHack itch I didn't realize I was feeling. If everyone can please mark in the room where they're at, that would be swell. For now, just pick a letter that isn't currently in use for one of the colors in the key; and if anyone has prior experience with using Sheets for this, please share your wisdom.


Looks like I still need Odeta, Cole, Erebus and Vano to mark their locations on the map.

You might want to try google sheets for future maps. It's what most people here who aren't using Roll20 use. It's quick to copy and paste maps from the AP PDF in, no building needed, just sizing. Character icons can be added the same way. You can also add color filled shapes to cover unexplored areas. It would probably be a lot less work.

Hi all. I want to apologize for my extended absence. First things first, I fully intend to keep up with the campaign if you’ll still have me. Second, I’ll offer an explanation. (Posting this to all of my currently active campaigns).

I wish I could say that there was one big thing, but instead it was a lot of small to medium things. Physical and mental health problems, almost 20% of my waking hours spent traveling in the last month and a half, some work-related woes, the stress of the holidays, internet outages, writer’s block, etc. In the few times that I had sufficient time and energy to even look at the Paizo boards, I found myself overwhelmed by the high number of new posts and was experiencing terrific guilt and anxiety about having missed so much. I have been composing this message for a couple of days now, trying to provide a semblance of apology.

And now I am trying to catch up in earnest.

Thank you for your patience with me, especially those who reached out here or on Discord. I tried my best to respond as I was able, but I know I missed some of you.

Glad you're alright and back Erebus! No new gameplay posts here since about mid-December, but hopefully it's just the holidays and things will start again.


For myself, " Waiting for the last player to place themselves on the map" turned into "focusing on other things including the holidays". Luckily, Allera poked me in the eye and Erebus has returned. I've got a post ready as soon as they place themselves on the map.
