After initially making things worse (he had already stabilized, but your first attempt was so bad he started bleeding again), you manage to bind his wounds and stabilize him.

After about a minute from when Tam fled, Scourge comes part way down the stairs and yells at you to get up in the hold. When you get up there, you see Tam and Scourge, and in the back you also see Ioney and Nivian coming down from the deck.

"Oh boyo, you've done it now!" Scourge says with sadistic glee.
"trying to kill two of the crew? No way Harrigan lets this pass."

Ioney looks past Scourge and Tam to Sebastian, the question obvious in his face, but he hesitates for only a second. "Tried to kill? I'm here to heal who needs it. Tam is mobile, so he should be able to keep for a moment. Who else was involved, where are they?"

Male Human Fighter(Aldori Defender) 1/Monk(Master of Many Styles) 1 AC18, FF14, T14; Init +4; F+6, R+7, W+3; Perc +9; Sense Motive +10; hp-22

"Thay attacked me, and if I had tried to kill them, they would both be dead already." Sebastion sneers at Scourge.
In response to Ioney's query Sebastion says as he points to the body at his feet.
"Jape is unconscious, but I think I stopped the bleeding."

"You searched them for weapons. How come someone had a dagger?"
Nivian points out the weapon, "That, and the fact everybody is alive when there was a clear opportunity to kill, stinks of a setup."
Her facial features harden:"After the recent event on deck, I don't think the Captain will look kindly on this. No doubt it will be bad for us. But if you are under scrutiny, do you think Plugg will stand up for you or throw you under the wheels when it's clear one of you was involved in setting all of this up?"

She had not been directly antagonistic towards any of the officers, trying to keep a low profile until such time as they reached a port - or at least inhabited islands. But the lines seemed drawn, and there was much at stake here.

To be clear, I am playing on this part of your narrative: 'The next morning, the punishment hour is moved up to first thing before jobs are assigned. Captain Harrigan is in a foul mood, and it is obvious that he is almost as mad at Scourge as he is at the rest of you. Instead of Plugg announcing punishments as usual, Harrigan does it himself (something that does not sit well with Plugg).' - in the hopes that Scourge decides not to test the Captains patience by bringing the incident up/blaming Sebastion. We already do have someone in the Sweatbox and I doubt it's comfortable for multiple people, so I'd rather not have a keelhauling scheduled.

Scourge looks like he's about to burst, but Nivian's remarks about the captain have him stymied.

"Six lashes for fighting!" He finally shouts.
Pointing at Ioney and Nivian, he then indicates Jape.
"You two, take him to the doctor. The rest of you, get back to work!"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Promised the Captain to do everything I could to keep the crew alive, lively, and onboard. I'm going to follow through on that promise."

Once they get to Jape down in the Bilge, Ioney will sing a short piece about Spring growth, and the beauty of a field of wildflowers as he cast a CLW on Jape.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

"C'mon, Jape. We've got orders to get you to the Doc. Shame you had to slip and fall on your own blade like that, and that you bounced around in the bilge and onto the blade more than once. Good thing you've got people willing to help keep you up and moving, yeah?"

Tempted to use the day's Diplomacy right here, on Jape.

I love it!

It wouldn't work, Jape is in the uninfluencable group now.

The rest of the day continues as normal. That afternoon, during the punishment hour, Sebastion, Tam , and Jape all receive six lashes. Because it is under the watchful eye of Harrigan, Scourge can't slack vs the two other pirates, nor go heavier on Sebastion. Regardless, all three are knoecked out by the punishment.

The next day, both Sebastion and Nivian are sent to the bilges, along with Sanadara. It seems that Scourge has given up on keeping one of his men with your group at all times. Instead, Scourge and Plugg give you and anyone that is friendly to your group the worst jobs possible.

A lookout cries “Ship ahoy!” late in the afternoon, and Captain Harrigan immediately turns the Wormwood to pursue its prey. As the evening wears on, the Wormwood gradually gains on the other ship, and by dawn, less than half a mile separates the two.

As the Wormwood closes to within half a mile of the Man’s Promise, Riaris Krine summons you to the Wormwood’s poop deck to give them their task for the upcoming battle.

"The ship’s wheel is on the aft deck, just below the sterncastle. You’re going to grapple over, kill the guards on the sterncastle, take the wheel, and guard the ship’s boats. Kill anyone who tries to get away on one of the boats. Don’t move from the wheel until the fighting’s done, or you’ll have to answer to me. Oh yeah, as we get close, it’s going to get foggy. Just stick to what I told you to do.”

Krine points to Helgash.
"You did better than anyone in training for boarding, so you are in charge of this group for the upcoming action. Don't f*%@ it up!"

Male Human Fighter(Aldori Defender) 1/Monk(Master of Many Styles) 1 AC18, FF14, T14; Init +4; F+6, R+7, W+3; Perc +9; Sense Motive +10; hp-22

That night, Sebastion has vivid dreams.
Sebastion stands in an odd stance upon ancient flagstones in an open courtyard. He is in line with other young people in robes. Surrounding him are high, iceclad peaks of some large mountain range. The icy wind blows through the courtyard, cutting through his thin robes. An old, bald man in flowing robes walks down the line of students. He hold s a short baton. As he faces Sebastion, he swings the baton. Sebastion shifts his stance slightly and the baton misses. But the old man reverses, and before Sebastion can move again, the baton smacks painfully into his ribs.

"Wrong! Again." The old man says in a terse voice.
Sebastion resumes his stance, the dream fades...

That morning, when Sebastion awakes, he is left with new memories. He still does not remember anything recent, but he has regained lost abilities.

The two ships soon enter into reasonable firing range and continue to close together. The crew of the Man’s Promise begins to bombard the Wormwood with missiles, mainly crossbow bolts, but also with two ballistas on the sterncastle attacking the Wormwood’s rigging in a futile attempt to slow the pirate ship. At the same time, banks of heavy mist suddenly envelop the enemy ship. You see Peppery Longfarthing casting spells from the poop deck. The missile fire from the enemy is reduced slightly, and becomes wildly inaccurate. After a short while, the two ships collide, and the pirates begin hurling grapples and lowering planks to board the Man’s Promise.

Grabbing hold of a rope in one hand, Helgash flies through the air to land behind the pirates next to the helm - ”Over here, fools!” - he growls, downing some sort of extract he has produced from his bandoleer as he went.
