Couldn't find a scorpion avatar; the crab will have to do.
Robyyn's zombie scorpion--sped up by Lutinorious--lashes out at the indicated witch, pummeling her with its bulk as it snaps and stings.

It seems excessive to me, but these are all primary natural attacks, so I'm pretty sure they all go off on a full attack at full attack bonus.

Once its safe Jilarni checks the altar. "There is nothing else than word ”Irian” inscribed here. And on the wall above entrance to this maze there is inscription “Let the first rest forever in a dark abyss. Let none speak her name.” Interesting."

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Not willing to trust a Pathfinder he just met today, Robyyn gives the altar another once-over. He decides that Jilarni must be worth her salt, as he can't find anything beyond what she did. He notes the name "Irian" before leading his zombie scorpion to the main cavern, where he waits for the others so they can choose another path.

![]() |

You are easily able to see that this area doesn't have anything else interesting. Just a damp cave. Robyyn notices that the altar has only a single word on it as Jilarni said.

![]() |

”so which room should we try next? Anyone feeling lucky?”

![]() |

I say onward to room 6!

![]() |

Yaiho throws his maul into the air and watches it land. He then points his finger toward (Room 6) as he picks up his maul.

![]() |

The short corridor takes a turn, revealing a wall of whirling blades that blocks your path. Built into the wall on both sides of the corridor are small stone tablets made from marble, each bearing an inscription.
Jilarni inspects first tablet "It seems these tablets reveal clues about this obstacle. On east side it reads “The first and worst” and on west side “The last of my hopes”."

Perception, heroism, cues : 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 2 + 5 = 30

![]() |

Roderick notices that stone tablets on both sides of corridor have similar imprint, which are comparable in size to the scepters. It seems using correct scepters on tablets has some effect.

![]() |

Roderick points out the impression
”Undoubtedlty, the scepter imprints hold the clue. We should see if they are keyed to a specific shape of each. Otherwise the riddle will need deciphering. “

![]() |

”That woman we saved said that the scepters had something to do with his wives. Maybe the first wife’s scepter goes on the first and his last wife’s goes on the west side?”

![]() |

"Worth a shot..." Lutorinus says as he places the scepters as Fahd suggests.

![]() |

When touched by scepters, the tablets glow softly for a moment and thw whirling blades then disappear. You step forward and Jilarni reads the another set of tablets before second such blades. "On east side reads “My right hand” and west “The bringer of faith”.

![]() |

Malaz nods at the warrior, "Well considered Fahd."

![]() |

”Anyone remember the descriptions of his other wives? I bet that’s what this is Redding to as well,” Fahd suggests.

![]() |

"Bah," Robyyn grumbles. "Who cares about the wives. Each scepter is a different shape; can't we just fit like to like and not worry about some mad Prince's puzzles?"
Robyyn takes a closer look at the slots for the scepters to check his hypothesis.

![]() |

Haha I don't think we made the check to learn more about the wives, correct? Maybe I'm just failing at reading, but I didn't see much about them in our prior posts! Scepter shape is as good as any, let's try it!

![]() |

Seems reasonable to me. Try the shape. If that does not work, we can try to be more creative.

Roderick: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Malaz: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
You recall that "Briger of faith" clue fits well with the description of scepter you found from central chamber (quote below). Jilarni thinks for a moment and states that the quote "My right hand" is included in one of altars in the entrance hall.
"I believe that scepter over there is used to open the west chamber. It reads in Ancient Osiriani "For Iltorian, the blessed second who taught me faith in the gods, but reliance only in oneself." These are references to Alkhet's wives and understanding the clues correctly likely saves our lives."
As you touch the tablets with scepters, they glow shortly and second blade barrier disappears. Jilarni reads third and last pair "East side reads “The desert flower” and west one “The luxurious one”.

![]() |

Personally, I've no idea how to figure out which scepters to use. At this point, I'm for randomly trying them.
At this point there are only two scepters untried, so its easy one. Last wall is dispelled and way is open to next room. The scenario in this puzzle put the focus on clues given rather than shapes of rods. Sorry if this was unclear.
----The door slowly swings open to reveal a large chamber made mostly from the same sandstone that dominates this place. A strip of black marble runs from an altar on the east end of the room, through the floor, to a throne that sits on the west end of the chamber.
Jilarni reads the inscription on the throne “The throne of the Merchant Prince—those who would seek audience must sit and judge the worth of all things.”
On the east side of the room is an altar made of the same black stone as the strip running through the room and the throne on the opposite side. Atop the altar are seven depressions, each one large enough to fit any one of the rods. On the left side of the altar, just outside the row of depressions, is a small piece of quartz, embedded into the stone. On the right side, opposite the piece of quartz, is a beautiful diamond.
You're in room 7 on map. The value of scepters can be determined by DC 15 Appraise checks.

Yes, each one needs to be rolled, but can't take 10 in this. You have one success, 6 more to go.
Resting on the arm of the throne is the seventh, and final, scepter. This scepter is made of simple sandstone and appears older than all the rest.

Robyyn looks on as Roderick evaluates the scepters. "You've got a real skill there; you sure seem to know what you're doing with those. I'm not even going to guess!"

![]() |

Roderick easily estimates value of the scepters.
Elea’s Scepter: 700 gp
Shasha’s Scepter: 2,000 gp
Kiranna’s Scepter: 3,500 gp
Osomi’s Scepter: 3,700 gp
Iltorian’s Scepter: 4,000 gp
Alkhet’s Scepter: 500 gp
As you prepare to place the scepters on depressions on the altar, you notice they cannot be brought there, because of a repulsion effect targeting the rods. Choose someone to sit on the throne, while scepters are placed on the altar.

"Roderick, you figured it out; do you want the honor?" Robyyn offers this assuming that it's safe, and Roderick will at the worst, not be harmed. "Maybe you'll get some kind of boon when we put them all in place!"
Would a Knowledge, Spellcraft, or UMD check confirm that suspicion?

![]() |

”I do not seek a throne but rather to liberate slaves from those who would oppress them. I can look at that next. Malaz may be better suited to resist if anything should happen. “

Roderick finds a trap. Its triggered by placing the scepters in an incorrect order on altar, launching a line of fire from altar to the throne hitting the person sitting there with certainty (Reflex half). The amount damage this does, depends on how many of the scepters are out of place.
