Yes, just wanted to get in front of folks so that the splash won't get them. They could run forward though.
Is this swarm a knowledge nature roll?
Rahu Moguly |
"Let's prepare to take them out before they get close enough to bite! Rahu shouts as he takes an acid flask out of his bandolier.
Ready an action to throw the flask if the swarm comes within range.

Like to know if weapons will work on this type of swarm.
GM Roll4initiative |
Yep. Knowledge (nature).
Walks realizes a color spray won't work on insects so he readies a vial of acid instead.
He knows this is a swarm of diminutive vermin. As such, they are immune to mind-affecting effects and weapon damage. These mosquitoes will make you bleed after they sting you and are known to carry a nasty disease.
Gaius gives himself a bit of luck and also pulls out a vial of acid.
Rahu readies an acid vial as well.
Gemtorian points his spear forward, ready to strike.
Janira yells words of encouragement to inspire her friends.
"Ohh, they're just little bugs. SQUASH THEM!!!"
Inspire Courage is active! +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
The swarm of mosquitoes hums loudly as it soars forward through the trees about 5 feet above the ground. It gets within 10 feet of Walks with Giants.
Will resolve readied acid vials first.
Walks with Giants |
Walks calls out loudly "Do not bother with weapons. You might kill one or two of them but it won't even slow the swarm down. You need to blast it with something that will hit lots of them at once. I have extra acids if someone needs one."
GM Roll4initiative |
"Throw it now, Walks with Giants!!!"
Janira shouts as the swarm gets dangerously close to the group.
Some of you readied an action to throw a vial. Roll your attack.

@Dorgan: You're on the map!
It's still the 'Skeeter's turn, btw. Just waiting for the readied acid flasks from the others.

Welcome to 'Weekend Posting Time' where we may have to wait until Monday before people log back in from work to play. ;) I also placed Halle Tab's token in a spot in the orange box. Sorry normally I check all that stuff but I'm off my game.

Rahu nearly throws his flask at the swarm on Janira's shout at Walks with Giants, but holds until it comes a bit closer to him.

Why would your PC be non-proficient with a thrown splash weapon?
GM Roll4initiative |
Walks tosses his acid flask as the swarm gets close. Splashing on the tiny vermin, It sizzles and disperses many of the creatures.
Rahu throws his flask, but, it falls short and bursts on a rock on the ground between Walks and the swarm, splashing acid on Walks and the swarm.
1 point of splash to Walks & swarm.
The Kortos Mosquito Swarm surrounds Rahu and Gemtorian, who jabs his spear at the swarm to no avail. The swarm stings their exposed skin and causes the two to bleed.

Halle moves South, staying close to the team, but doesn't act; instead, she just readies to attack in case another enemy comes into her range.
I don't have anything against swarms, so will likely sit this one out for the moment, and spread in case the swarm decides to move to another group, or another swarm appears
GM Roll4initiative |
Dorgan lobs his flask. It bursts in the air, spraying acid over what's left of the swarm, destroying it.
"Hooray!!!"
Janira shouts with joy.
"We did it, everyone! Good job. You were well prepared to handle those skeeters."
She runs over to check everyone's wounds.
"Are you alright, Walks? Lemme take a look...
Ohh. Minor acid burns. Will you be okay?"
She then takes a look at Gem and Rahu.
"Woah. You two got pretty eaten up. Lemme fix those wounds and stop the bleeding."
She mutters a small prayer and casts cure light wounds on the two.

She says with a look of worry.
Need a Fort save vs. disease from Rahu & Gem.

"My apologies for the errant throw, Mr. Giants. It is unfortunate the creatures were able to reach us before Mr. Ironhelm took care of them."
He twists his lips in contemplation. "I hope we do not find ourselves infected with some disease as a result of being bitten. It could mean a potentially early end to our adventure."
Dorgan Ironhelm |
Well, it's been nice knowing ya... Dorgan says with a chuckle.
Kidding! Sheesh...noi sense of ha ha... he says as he gets out a couple pieces of cloth to cover the bites.
Here...shake some of this on it...might help.. he holds up a flask of alcohol of some sort.
Might just get a fever...or itching...
Walks with Giants |
Walks shrugs the concern over his wounds and says "Don't worry about me. Give me a night's rest and I'll be as good as rain."
He also quickly adds, with a wave towards the two, "I'm more worried about Gems and Rahu here. Anyone know anything about that stuff? A good healer makes all the difference you know."
GM Roll4initiative |
Janira speaks up.
"I know how to apply a bandage or a splint, but, unfortunately, I don't know how to treat diseases. We may need to find an expert healer if Gemtorian or Rahu get really ill. I hear malaria can be quite nasty."
Rahu & Gem did succeed on their first saves. They will need to make another save in 24 hours, though. The cure is 2 consecutive saves.
She turns to WwG.
"Unfortunately, we don't have time to rest yet. We better get a move on if we're to get to the cave by dusk. I fear that if we don’t reach the caves tonight, any gillmen who are present may leave before we arrive."
Gaius Marius |
"Excellent work stopping the swarm! Yes we must hurry onto the cave, we cannot afford to miss the gillmen."
Rahu Moguly |
"I concur with Ms. Janira and Mr. Marius. Let us move with all haste."
Walks with Giants |
"It's just a blister. I'll be fine. Let's move on."

Halle helps Dorgan and Walks, looking around, and the shifter quickly nods in agreement with the Dwarf.
I believe you're correct, my friend! Good eyes. - she says, pulling her scimitar to follow him. As she walks, her features once again become more fae-looking, fangs and a sting prominent.
Gemtoran |
Gemtorian chuckled at the comment from Dorgan as they made their way to the cave. Seeing Haile changing in front of him, he stares a bit, having not seen someone change their form in front of him. "Um, no offense, but is that your natural form Halie?" he asked.
GM Roll4initiative |
Softly whistling a happy tune as the group makes their way through the forest, Janira is suddenly startled by Halle's transformation.
"Yikes! Y-y-you're not a f-f-fiend, are you?"
She jumps back, frightened of the shifter's wicked fangs and demon-like tail.
Gaius Marius |
This way...I see a path...sometimes it helps being built so low to the ground...
"Indeed it does for your eyes and skills are excellent. Thank you very much for saving us time in the wilderness."

Yes. Definitely.

"Fear not Janira. Halle's transformation involves her channeling fey bloodlines, not demonic. However fey are noted for their chaotic and prankster natures so we're not totally safe from shenanigans."
Gaius winks at Halle as he relays the information to the party.
A Taldan who isn't stuffy 24/7? Who knows?!?!
GM Roll4initiative |
Hearing the truth about Halle, Janira relaxes a bit.
"Oh, thank goodness."
She pants heavily with a hand over her heart.
"I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. Scared the jeebers outta me for a second there."
Gaius Marius |
Well, as long as it's just the jeebers that were scared out of ya... the dwarf says with a chuckle and a puff of cigar smoke.
daylight's burning...not that it matters to me...but...others maybe..
"Indeed. Lead on good Dorgan; I don't see well in the dark and my magical light is likely to attract attention of things we wish to avoid."
Rahu Moguly |
"I picked up some sunrods since our last sojourn together, Mr Ironhelm, so I am even better prepared to handle working in the dark than before."
Walks with Giants |
Muttering a word under his breath and pulling a dead firefly out of his pouch, he causes his spear to illuminate.
"And I still have that light spell. So we should be fine for light."
GM Roll4initiative |
Continuing through the forest...
Janira is astonished with the group's ability to make their way through the forest, avoiding many of the setbacks and obstacles.
"Wow! I think we're going to make it just before sunset. Great job, you guys!"
No need for the light spell on your spear yet, WwG.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just before sunset, the dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead.
“Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines,” Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face.
She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface.
“This is where I saw the gillmen enter.”
As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth.
The halfling worriedly remarks,
“Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us!”
As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group.
Wisely assessing that a minotaur is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams,
“A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag,”
she continues, pulling off her backpack,
“and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO!”
She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.
What would you like to do? Listen to Janira and flee into the cave, or ignore her orders and fight the minotaur?
Halle Keb |
Halle smiles, and nods in agreement when Gaius explains. She is somewhat surprised he'd even recognize it, but doesn't care enough to question.
--== Then ==--
Well, mates, this sure looks beyond our paygrade... - she says, looking at the creature and the halfling running towards it - ... Yet, it's not really in my nature to let someone risk their necks like that.
When she completes, she prepares herself to chase Janira towards the monster - just holding for her companions to speak their minds.
kn nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
What does Walks know about these things. Would they be immune to his daze (4 HD), cause fear (5HD) or color spray (5HD) spell?
GM Roll4initiative |
Walks doesn't know if a minotaur would be susceptible to his mind-affecting spells, or, for that matter, anything else about these creatures' abilities.
It sure looks to be a formidable creature.
Janira taunts in Giant and missile
attacks to draw the minotaur’s attention to lead it away. She turns to see what the party is doing.
"Get in those caves and finish your mission! I'll take care of it!"
She shouts as she leads the minotaur into the woods.
Dorgan Ironhelm |
Dorgan bristles at the thought of letting Janira face the minotaur on her own.
As much as I hate it, she gave us an order...by the gods, I want to cleave that overgrown cow's head off... he says as he wrestles with the decision.
Let's go... he says as he heads for the caves. He cats one more glance over his shoulder at Janira.
Watch yerself!
Halle Keb |
We can't just leave her here! - says Halle - I hate to defy her order, but look at that thing! She will end up killed.
The shifter looks as Dorgan heads for the caves, but she herself doesn't go - standing up to go follow Janira.
Gemtoran |
"I think she know what she's doing, she gave us an order to get to the caves, and Master of Scrolls he told us ...you will travel to these caves to explore and document its many passages. Additionally, and most importantly, you are to learn what the gillmen are up to in there. Oh, and you need to come back alive as well.” so that our orders. Hard to follow his orders of we dead. Gemtorian said.
Given the resources needed to play a Suli, going after a minotaur at 1st level is not on my wish list, even though I am sure we might be able to deal with it..
