Joran "Shark Bait" Bravestone |
"I am so tired of bugs," Atia groans, shivering with disgust.
"Maybe Joran can carry Lanni again until we're out of the water?" Atia suggests, glancing at their surroundings. "I'll stay somewhere in the middle..."
"Yeah, sure." Joran will offer to carry the gnome and if he accepts, will do so until they reach shallower water, where he will then put him back down.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In response to the bug bite issue, "I was bitten by those stupid flies. But I don't feel anything." He shrugs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lanni looks around as they are going deeper into these caverns. He whispers to Joran next to him, "I can't see anything. It is rather dark and all you big people are in the way."
Leaning down, "You want me to pick you up so you can see better? Up to you, little buddy."
Atia Leroung |
Atia chews on her bottom lip nervously and nods at Terry's signal, crouching low...as if that might help...and attempts to sneak past the grindylows with the rest.

Joran "Shark Bait" Bravestone |
Joran, looking extremely confused by Terry's actions, He wants us to SNEAK past them? All eight of us? When most of us aren't really BUILT for sneaking? Has he even SEEN me? Shaking his head at the level of impossible that Terry is asking for, Sneak past. Seriously? I'm 6'6" and outweigh Mateo, Atia, and Lanni COMBINED, and I'm just supposed to 'sneak past' them. Yeah. Sure. Okay. Well, this ought to be good.
Reaffirming his grip upon his sword, Joran does his best to "stealth" his way past the grindylows.

Seadreamer Stonebeard |
Standing on the edge of the corridor to block the way if needed.
Seadreamer will wait with battleaxe drawn.
Quiet, we dont need to be heard
He winces slightly at Atia stumbling in the water and sloshing it, as he waits.
Once everyone is past, he attempts to sneak past.

Of course, with that build up, I roll a one. Well here is the heropoint reroll.

Terry of Quent |
You might have noticed I didn't roll again . . .. And if you noticed my first Stealth roll, before this opening, you might have realized that Terry doesn't know much about Stealth . . .. Here, let me join the chorus, if you will. Avoiding combats when you can is usually the right idea, though.
Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Atia Leroung |
Any IC commentary isn't reflective of OOC feelings about Terry's actions, lol. It's fine.
Atia curses quietly as she stumbles, glancing into the cave of grindylows to see if their clumsy sloshing through the water has been noticed yet.
Seadreamer Stonebeard |
I echo Atia's comment. IC commentary does not reflect OOC feelings about actions.
I asked if you could take the lead spot only due to my own bias and thoughts of of Rogues . . .Traps . . . .Sea Goblins . . . .Goblins. . . .AKA lots of traps. :)
I did not remember or see anything about you and your skills. It was just a kneejerk reaction.
So once again, No OOC feelings about your actions. its all good.
Terry of Quent |
For the record, I expect some of what Terry does to spark reactions from the other characters. Hopefully, the players find the actions entertaining.

It's downright tricky to stealth while wading through water that's too shallow to swim through, but too high up not to swoosh around your legs. Dreamer manages it, but the rest of you find yourselves making entirely too much noise to sneak past, and the grindylows cry out as they spot you, each one diving under water.
The water in the room is a dozen feet deep, and with thick seaweed carpeting the bottom four feet, like I said. Here is a link to underwater combat rules for you guys.
Atia Leroung |
Atia stays on the edge of the water that isn't so deep and casts Summon Monster II, bringing forth a Giant Frog that appears in the water in front of the nearest grindylow (the blue one).
The giant frog's tongue lashes out and attempts to grab the grindylow.

"Well, here is to killing them. Remember folks; poke, not swing." Mateo says with a grin before he takes a step off of the ledge and into the deep water. The man tosses his hat back as he does, long brown hair flowing over his shoulders as he sinks underneath the waves. With his buckler, rapier, and leather armor, the man immediately begins to sink down into the water. His grin stays on his face as he watches the grindylows swim through the water, sinking ten feet down into the seaweed bed below.
Mateo has sixteen pounds worth of gear on him, letting him settle onto the floor of the pool with firm footing. He is using his rapier, a piercing weapon, so he takes no negatives on his attacks. I'm not sure the negative of the seaweed so feel free to adjust my rolls as needed Fern <3

Seadreamer stands beside Mateo and the frog, ready to strike as soon as one comes into range.
The grindylow attached to the frog doesn't bother trying to free itself, instead trying to stab the frog holding him. He manages a small hit on the large amphibian, but the tongue attached to him prevents him from hitting more solidly.

The giant frog will attempt to swallow the grindylow in its grasp.
Attack vs. CMD: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
1d4 bludgeoning: 1d4 ⇒ 3
If the swallow whole attack succeeds, the creature will take 1d4 damage every round. A swallowed creature is grappled. It can try to cut its way free with a light slashing or piercing weapon. AC is 10 for this, 1hp, 2hp if we round up (1/10 of 19 is 1.9) or just try to escape the grapple. If the creature cuts its way out, the swallowing creature cannot use swallow whole again until the damage is healed. If the swallowed creature escapes the grapple, success puts it back in the attack's mouth, where it may be bitten or swallowed again--so basically, if it escapes the swallow whole without causing damage, it's still grappled.
Atia will draw her crossbow and fire off a shot at the nearest grindylow she can see.

Terse post, short on time.
Atia's frog swallows the grindylow it'd grappled, the creature disappearing inside. Joran learned that thrown weapons work terribly underwater, as in, not at all, the dagger leaving his hand and almost immediately sinking. Mateo dispatched yet another grindylow, Terry prepared himself for one to attack, and Des nearly hit one with her crossbow, but the bolt went just wide.
Cass heals the giant frog back up, knowing that tossing the card won't help much, and seeing that it's tanking several enemies. (It was only down 3, not bothering to roll, it's back to full.)
The fleeing grindylow rushes back to fight Lanni, but Dreamer blocks his path. It doesn't have a chance to attack, having swum quite a distance to return.

Atia and Destinie team up to take down one of the grindylows who was preparing to charge Lanni for taunting him, and Mateo dispatches another. The water is chummed red and cloudy and it's getting harder to see, until the giant frog belches happily, his meal complete, the bubble of gas dispersing some of the grindylow blood.
A single grindylow is all that remains, the little fiends proving no match for you all, even on their home turf. This one chooses to flee, and does so rapidly, squirting a jet of water from an orifice you don't wish to consider too carefully, under its tentacles.

That was her last gasp before her eyes returned to normal as she stumbled a bit... only growl. "Wait a minute."
She swam towards where the creatures were slain and disappeared... only to come back up with items belonging to Sandy and Tilly.
"We have to be close now. Let's follow them."
Terry of Quent |
"Or let's follow the shallower path and see if they meet up instead of swimming directly into more of them?" Terry points back at the path he had been trying to follow.
Atia Leroung |
"Terry is right," Atia says, stashing her spellbook back into its waterproof bag and watching, briefly, as the giant frog fades back into its own plane. She casts a sympathetic eye on Destinie, frowning with worry over the items that the oracle fished up. "We are not at our best and strongest in the water, and our enemies are. We will do Sandara and Tilly no good if we rush into things without thinking it through first."

Joran grins, giving a salute at the swashbuckler. Looking around and preparing to help finish off the creatures, all of the sudden there appear to be none left. Dropping his shoulders in discouragement, the barbarian grunts in annoyance as several bubbles flow from his mouth. Sheathing his dagger, he looks at Mateo and points up, making his way back to the surface.
Rising from the deep, the barbarian's long hair adheres to his back as he pushes away the hair that's covered his face. "Well, that was easy." He says with a smile. "Okay, which way now?" he asks, turning his focus upon the tunnel behind Lanni. "I'm guessing down that tunnel there?" He motions with a nod of his head. "It's either that or swimming. And I'm guessing that swimming is not everyone's first choice."
Atia Leroung |
"No, I prefer not to swim if we can avoid it..." Atia says, placing a hand on the big man's upper arm and giving it a quick squeeze. She begins to head down the tunnel with the shallower water, although she will pause after a moment and wait for those with better scouting abilities to go ahead.
"Queen Mother, you said, Des?" Atia wrinkles her nose in disgust. "I feel like...things have been a little too easy so far. We should keep our guard up."
