Dorgan Ironhelm |

Well, if it's any consolation, we avenged Kita...and yes, we have her collar. Here... Dorgan says as he fishes the collar from his pack.
And yes, let's finish this...I gotta et these ribs set...and drink away the pain...
nabbing three javelins...why not?

GM Roll4initiative |

Balenar sincerely thanks you for avenging his beloved dog and returning Kita's collar.
"Here. Let me help you with that broken rib."
Balenar casts cure light wounds on Dorgan, restoring him to full health.
"If we make it back to Absalom alive, the food and drinks are on me."
He gives a wink and places a firm, friendly hand on Dorgan's shoulder.
He then answers WwG's question.
"Well, I am a Pathfinder after all. I've got an insatiable hunger for knowledge and adventure like any other Pathfinder. I came here to explore the place, hoping to make a name for myself. Dreaming of being written about in the Pathfinder Chronicles for it. I was hoping there weren't too many dangerous creatures in here since it was abandoned ages ago, but still probably held some great treasures and secrets inside. That earthquake must've opened a hole to the Darklands and the troglodytes moved in. I started exploring, climbed up to the second floor, then was ambushed by several troglodytes. They beat the living daylights outta me. Then they slapped me awake up in the large chamber upstairs and showed me to their 'king'. I got dragged back down here and the big brute spent several days beating me for being a 'good-for-nothing human'. All I know is that their king has an albino crocodile as a pet. He also has a scimitar at his hip. Maybe he's some kind of Darklands druid."
The earthquake did open a hole to the Darklands below the spiral stairs on the ground level. After the trogs moved in, an aftershock sealed the hole.

![]() |

"It seems we must confront this troglodyte king if we are to complete our exploration of the fortress. Fortunately, it sounds as if he will be cut off from any reinforcements."

![]() |

"That will make it more fierce...but to reach this point and not finish these monsters, unacceptable." Rokhan finally chimes in with the others.

Dorgan Ironhelm |

You're a saint, Balenar...we'll have a drink or ten and smoke a decent cigar when we're done here. Dorgan says as he takes a deep breath and finds it pain free.
Now...let's put this overgrown guppie and his pet gecko down...lest more people get hurt exploring this place... he says as he makes his way to the room with the trog.
carrying the javelin in my off hand so i can use it if needed...if i can get a ranged attack in before getting close why not?

"I think our fates have led us to this moment. Who am I to defy the fates? Let us proceed"
Before they open the door Walks will cast a bless spell on the group using a scroll.

GM Roll4initiative |

Balenar nods.
"Ready whenever you are. I'll hang back and help out as best as I can."
He readies his bow and adjusts the quiver on his back. Dorgan opens the door to the stairwell. The group ascends to the fifth, and final, level.
I'll let WwG cast bless after the door to the stairwell is opened and before heading up the stairs. It only takes 1 round to head upstairs.
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest. The vaulted ceiling is nearly twenty feet high in this room; it is dimly lit by the daylight shining through the archways that lead to a terrace surrounding the fifth floor.
Behind the large throne, the troglodyte leader stands at the eastern arch, gazing into the distance. A stunted albino cave crocodile rests nearby. Alerted by the sound of your approach, he turns, points at Dorgan who leads the way up the steps, and orders his crocodile to attack!
Note that you are in single file marching order going up the steps with Dorgan in front. Rahu is 5' behind Dorgan, WwG is 10' behind Dorgan, etc..., with Balenar last in line at 30' behind Dorgan. So, I arranged your PCs in marching order on the map and you need to pass through the square Dorgan is currently in (top of stairwell) to have line of sight to anything in the room.

Thanks for catching that, Rahu!
Rahu & Rokhan are up!

Rahu's dart and Calderon's fire bolt injures the frightened crocodile. Meanwhile, Rokhan summons hot sands from the sun-drenched interior of the great Qadiran desert. The troglodyte leader begins to dance and yelp as the sand burns his feet.
The frightened crocodile scampers in the soft, hot sand along the inner wall. It ends up on the other side of the throne, snarling in pain from the extreme heat.

Balenar stays put with an arrow nocked. He begins telling heroic tales of famous Pathfinders, inspiring you in combat.

With the Master of the Fallen Fortress defeated, the group searches the leader's body. You find a set of keys (which opens the large chest and the locked doors on the lower levels), a masterwork scimitar, and a magical cloak of resistance (+1). After a thorough search of the room, the only item of interest is the large wooden chest next to the throne.
Balenar's eyes go wide as you all approach the chest.
"A job well done, my friends. There it is."
He says as he nods in wonder towards the chest.
"All of our hard work paid off. Well, all of your hard work."
He gives an embarrassed chuckle.
"I'd probably be dead by now if it wasn't for you all coming to my rescue."
After opening the chest, Balenar's jaw almost drops to the floor. Inside, you find a masterwork short sword, 15 cold-iron shurikens, two flasks of acid, a potion of cat’s grace, a potion of lesser restoration, a wand of summon monster I (CL 3rd, 9 charges), an amethyst worth 100 gp, and 247 gp in assorted coins.
Balenar scoops up a handful of the coins and lets them drop back into the chest between his fingers.
"Well, let's haul this all back to the Lodge and have ourselves some fine food and drink, shall we?"

![]() |

"Sounds fantastic. Wow. I could live for years off of this loot."

Dorgan Ironhelm |

Well, you might catch an earful from Ambrus about your running off..but as long as your hide is intact, no harm, no foul, right? Just..don't always expect us to come to your rescue, okay? Dorgan says with a chuckle as he hefts the chest over his shoulder.
Agreed..now I can buy some decent cigars...these ones Ambrus gave me are great...I just hope I don't have to do a mission just to buy them... he fishes out the high quality stogies.
Want one? he offers the bard.

"A nice cigar sounds like a good idea right about now."
Balenar takes a cigar, lights it up, and takes a few puffs.
"Yeah."

"Valsin is going to be quite cross with me. Meh. He'll probably put me at a desk job in the archives for a couple weeks. Then back to adventurin' in no time."
He says with a wide grin.
"I'll definitely be sure to put in a good word for you all once we get back."
