This is the recruitment thread for a run of Pathfinder Society Scenario: #3-10 Delve the Pallid Depths. This adventure will be run as part of the Play by Post convention, Outpost V, which runs between March 6, 2022 and May 16, 2022.

This is a Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1-4.

This table will begin around 13th of March or 20th of March, depending on how fast my other games close.

Seating: This table has one seat reserved for WaterySoup. Other team players will be selected by the GM, the algorithm of selection is not specified. To express your willingness to play this scenario make a post with the intended PC and describe them briefly.

The other seat is given to Mandoo, who played at my Enter the Pallid Peaks table

Aleksandr Ostenoff was an inspiring actor and singer in the opera houses of Caliphas. His charm drew the attentions of numerous patrons and many suitors, but the only attention he returned was to one of his co-stars, Imelia Eisenhardt.

But Aleksandr was not the only one with his sights on the lovely Imelia. A noble strigoi, affiliated with the Whispering Way, vied for her affections. Yet Imelia rebuffed his advances, a result the vampire did not take well. Imelia was abducted.

Thanks to one of his patrons and the vampire hunters they hired, Aleksandr was able to come to Imelia's aid. Alas they were too late. Imelia's body and sould had already begun to succumb to the curse of undeath.

Aleksandr dabbled in the occult with a group of like-minded individuals that met in secret in Caliphas. He knew just where to take the body. The rituals the group had devised would be able to provide abeyance for the curse, at a cost. Someone had to donate their life force to counter the force of unlife that corrupted Imelia. Aleksandr volunteered without hesitation.

The ritual should have killed Aleksandr, but it didn't. Imelia wouldn't let it. At the last moment, Imelia's body jerked. She broke through the ritual circle. Life and death become locked in perfect balance and now the life force of Aleksandr and Imelia and become inextricably linked. Aleksandr had received her curse in part, becoming a dhampir, but Imelia, her soul infused with life could not depart and remained as a phantom.

Aleksandr knew the pair, united as never before, would never be safe for long in Caliphas, fled on a ship to Absalom, one last charitable gift from their patron. In order to learn more about their curse, the way to fully restore them and the strigoi who might still be after them, Aleksandr decided to join the Pathfinder Society so that he might avail himself of their vast stores of knowledge.

It's now nearly 23:00 hours and past my bedtime, I'll give you Granitt's background later, but he has Entered the Pallid Peak and would love to continue ....

Mister Farol has been so kind to reserve me a spot on this mission. I just wanted to introduce myself, Mrs. Potipher Perkins, and you may call me Mrs. Perkins.

Not Potipher.

Not Ms. Perkins.

Understood?

Good.

Now let me quilt in peace until we need to go.

Just wanted to note that Mrs. Perkins is Level 4, which tends to drive up the CP. But she's a healer, and she has the GA mentor boon if people bring level 1s.

Hello Farol! Don't want to hog all your games, but this seemed to slot in nicely. I'm Arlo, Larrathion, and others.

Dorgen Eversteel used to belong to a clan of weirdo Dwarves in the Osirion desert protecting an "ancient and terrible secret." Until Pathfinders discovered the clan, ran in, and defeated said secret. Now Dorgen is out of a job and joined the Society both to say thank you for taking care of that whole "ancient secret" business, and because he had nothing else to do.

He's a Necromancy school Wizard, but not the "summon undead horrors" kind, more a general utility caster with some debuff and summon options, rather than it being the main focus. He also has the Archaeologist archetype, making him a valuable asset in old ruins.

He's level 4 and has Pallid Peak as GM credit, so this would fit nicely. Raised mostly on GM credit, so his character isn't fully fleshed out yet, though. Mostly standard grumpy Dwarf stuff.

I am still pretty new to organized play, so if I post something that doesn't make sense, please let me know. Sindarin is Level 1 - brand new and never been played.

A young 20-something human man with shoulder-length brown hair appears at the threshold of the doorway just as Mrs. Perkins is introducing herself. He hesitates, glancing behind him. He wears leather armor, which is dyed varying shades of green and etched here and there with leaf patterns. There is a longbow slung across his back, and he carries a quiver with an etching of an oval-shaped leaf with a water droplet at the tip. His bracers have a hawk head pattern.

A longsword is sheathed on his left hip in a brown leather scabbard with a starburst pattern burned into the top. His right hip carries a short sword in a plain black sheath. He also wears a cloak that is woven from different shades of dark green and grey.

The man looks around the room uncertainly, then shrugs, glances over his shoulder and nods, making a subtle waving motion with his hand. He walks into the room, followed closely by a somewhat gangly black wolf.

Pleasure to meet you, ma'am. Mrs. Perkins, that is. I'm Sindarin - and this is Brook. Sindarin smiles at the wolf and she looks up at him hopefuly, wondering if he has something to offer her. Seeing that he does not, she settles at his feet and watches the other people in the room warily. Sindarin inclines his chin in the direction of Dorgen and Aleksandr as well, acknowledging their presence. He sends a silent prayer to Gozreh, hoping to be selected for this assignment.

@Aleksandr Ostenoff - I played with this character when they were cleric while we fought Blood of the Beutiful. Till now I wake out with scream from that experience ;) I assumed that Aleksandr was a healing cleric ;) bold assumption that was of me :D I don't think you played at my table so you got a spot.

===================

@Granitt - Hey I played with Granitt! I know him. Great to see you Deevor, wanting to play with me as a GM this time ;)

You got a spot!
==================

Hey Quentin! I don't mind players that like to play with me GM'ing. My goal in PF world is not to play with biggest amount of players, I want this to happen naturally. I like dwarfs, and this seems like a good addition to the team.

===============

@Sindarin - ok, this looks like it would be a high-tier run (lvl 3-4) which would mean that your Sindarin would get level bump adjustment (more HP, better saves, etc.). From my experience, such games are still enjoyable but you should be more careful about charging in as a first, or second ;) If you are interested you got the last spot.

And with that, we are closing the recruitment.

==========================

Everyone that has a spot, please had to gameplay and dot and delete. I will add into the discussion more information. As stated above this game will kick off sometime within the week, as I need to finish off my other games, as GM'ing this table was not exactly planned.

@GM Farol - Working on the background (which seems to have been lost in the annuls of time), but you have met Granitt before on the ill-fated race through the ice cold wastes of the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. It was then when the unfortunate Mad Hopper, alchemist extraordinaire, passed to Pharesma's judgement....

Quote:

The victory seems a defeat for Granitt, his head bowed he enters into the celebrations with little appetite for frivolity. He grumbles to himself, "We ... I failed him, he may have been a goblin, but he was my friend. More than that he was my brother in battle." a tear weals in his eye. He cuts off the final inch of his fine red beard and lays it Under Hopper's hand which is across his chest. "Torag, put in a good word for him, when he reaches the boneyard. He may not have had the body of a dwarf, but he had our spirit."

(Then I spent time I should have been working and wrote it up....)

It is this experience that has hung heavy on him in his missions since, that he was not able to hold the line and keep the beasts at bay from his friends. Melancholia has followed him ever since, dour, stubborn as dwarf's are, this has given him more dour, more stubborn. More than once has he returned to the Wall of Remembrance to lay trophies to the fallen.

His beginning, now just memories, were of a happy time growing up and learning the ways of the dwarven kind. Happy to give thanks to Torag and stay at the forge, wielding his hammer to beat the red hot metal in place. That is until his family were expelled from their settlement in the Five Kings Mountains, when his father was convicted of a theft and his family disgraced. He felt the shame and after many years he decided bring back honour to his family, the only way he knew, by becoming a champion of Torag, to defeat Torag's foes and protect family and friends from adversity.

In time he joined the Pathfinders, where his early failures have driven him to take on undead creatures in the sewers of Absalom, travel to Tian and eventually return to the mountains and explore under Droskar's Crag, into the Pallid Peak. But that exploration still left questions unanswered...

I did have soothe as a spell, so I had some healing, just not a lot. But overall I wasn't happy with the character as a cleric. I had put the character on the shelf for a while. When I read the devotion phantom summoner it gave me an even stronger concept for my story that allowed me to write in the love interest rather than leave her off-stage.

I did indeed! And since I ninja'd your post, I shall repeat this. Granitt is in the game!

The recruitment is closed.

Yes - I am still interested! I may just need a little help in figuring out the level boost as I haven't done that before. Thank you for having me!

Thanks for the seat, Farol!

Sindarin: a level bump is a virtual level up, for one scenario only, to make up for your lower level. You get the following:

- Increase every DC the PC has by 1.
- Increase the attack modifiers, attack damage, spell damage, saving throw modifiers, skill modifiers, Perception modifiers, and AC of the PC by 1.
- Increase the Hit Point totals of the PC by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher.

Your DCs are your class and spell DC, and your AC as well. Looking at your profile, your stats for this adventure would be:

HP 30/30 | AC 18| Fort +8 Ref +8 Will +5 | Per +7
All your skills +1
Attack and damage rolls +1

I think your animal companion will get the same boost as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

You'll still be rather fragile, as you'll be a pseudo-level 2 character in tier 3-4 (meaning the adventure is balanced around a party of level 3 and 4 characters, meaning tougher skill challenges and monsters with more HP and damage output), but you'll have a better shot at it than if you hadn't gotten the bump.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask. :)

Wow! Thank you so much for all of that, Dorgen!

I know we don't have a set start date yet, but just in case we start over the next few days, I will be out of town and may not be able to post on Tuesday, March 15th.

Hey, just an FYI @Sindarin, from now on it is better to abandon this thread and head to discussion with those matters ;) All in all we will not begin before Tuesday.
