Scerzaq draws himself up using the desk as support. He rasps and coughs. He looks around seeing that himself and Aurika took quite a beating. "Looks like we won though." The blood begins to congeal and dry against his fur, pulling on it slightly. "That's going to take a bit to brush out." He looks down at the Captain. "Well should we take his body out a free these slaves Cap'n?" Scerzaq grabs the Captain's hat and places it on Aurika's head.

With everyone healed, you search the room. In addition to the hat, Tadrun also carries a solid iron key. You also find an ornate compass and a dented spyglass that has seen many years of use.

Mounted on the wall like a trophy f some sort is an ornate dwarven clan dagger. It has dwarven runes that Dramar translates to "Higglesun."

There are two more small rooms in this area, if you wish to explore them. See map The Northern door has a lock.

Hello there, friends. At least, I hope you are based on the racket I heard in Tadrun's office and the fact you've acquired his hat. He turns so you can see his bruised face and his manacled hands. As you might surmise, Tadrun and I had… differing philosophies on life, especially when it came to things such as the concept of the inherent right for all humanoids to have liberty. The other room up here contains two hammocks — one big and one small — draped in the corners of the room. Opposite the door, papers bearing the sigil of Sedeq’s port authority and a well-used abacus rest on a small table. A thick tome lays open in the middle, its pages filled with dates and numbers written by a heavy hand.

The ship is carrying a dozen captives from a recent sea raid. They were meant to be sold quickly in Sedeq—all except one captive, Ganthur, due to his “unique affiliations”—but Captain Tadrun has kept them all on board to help with repairs. Between the postponed sale and the cost of the repairs, the ship’s coffers are almost depleted.

Aurika checks for traps and opens the chest… unfortunately she (and Maxel) missed the crude alarm snare. When she opens the lid, a pile of bells tumbles down from the ceiling — clanging and clashing loud enough to make your ears ring!

You hear shouting from belowdecks: NAR! HOW MANY TIMES I TOL' YA — DON'T MESS WITH ME STUFF! HERE I COME, TA GUT YA GOOD! You hear people stomping around belowdeck, coming up… inside the chest are a few coins and a bird feather token.

Aurika quickly pulls out a sheet of parchment from her backpack, folding it in half. "Ok, the story is I just bought the ship off the captain. He's left them, and I'm going to tell them that they are unemployed now. If they buy it, great. Else... we fight."

You come out onto the decks to meet this new hobgoblin. Out from belowdecks huggs a corpulent hobgoblin wearing a dirty officer's uniform. He has three friends with him.

NAR! Where're Ye? Ye made me climb tha stairs — he huffs — more punishment comin' yer way!

He stops and looks at you. Who're ye? An' why're ye wearin' Tadrun's hat? Your two sides stand on opposite sides of the deck. A breeze ruffles Aurika's hair.

Aurika removes the hat, using it in her mock bow to the hobgoblin. "You heard right. That's Scerzaq, and he's my First Mate. You see, I have this hat because I bought it, along with everything else on the ship, and the ship itself. It's all mine."

She continues with a broad smile. "Tadrun sold me a fixer upper, and laughed at me given how much coin I gave him, but so it goes. I see potential, and like a good project."

"Oh, and Tadrun has your severence pay. Said he was going to go drink, but I admit he didn't say which tavern," she feigns a look of concern. "You probably should go find him soon, else he might drink your coins away."

Vaggas the Fanatic, the quartermaster, eyes Aurika… and the hat. Ya gots the captain's hat. And we're tired o' bailin' this stinkin' tub anyways… or… watchin' them other ones bail. He gestures to his men. Come on lads. before he departs, he gives Aurika a look. Can I get me stuff from the quarters? Or did Nar steal it? That theivin' good fer nothin' goblin cook… probably cookin' sea-rocks an' mud or somesuch. Like to poison us.

Success, but he seems to be referring to a cook you have not yet met. Remember, he came up here because you set off the alarm trap on his chest of personal gear.

"I'm not gonna lie. I haven't seen no goblin cook. I heard the noise too, and had my crew check it," Aurika says. She looks to Scerzaq. "You said there was an empty chest, right?"

When Scerzaq sees the knowing look and nods, she turns back to Vaggas. "I'm guessing the goblin saw the opportunity and has now flown the coop. Sorry."

She shrugs.

Scerzaq comes off of the wall. "'Fraid it was empty when we were looking around the room. We will be here for awhile if you want to go to the taverna nd speak with Tadrun. Goblins, what can a say." He shrugs.

Aurika's lie seems to be going well and the hobgoblin starts to stride away. Then he pauses. Huh? Crit fail on aid

In the end, though, his anger gets the better of him. Yeah, Nar probably nicked me stuff when he knew we was goin' off the ship. Well…, I'll get him! He quickly gets into a lifeboat and has his hobgoblin crew row off.

As you wave goodbye to the former quartermaster, a tuneless singing emanates from the galley:

Turn the ladle, fire the pot
Thicken it like goblin snot.
Add the captain's salty sock
to flavor dwarven cooking stock.

From behind the door comes the sound of breaking glass, a WHOOSH, and a mad cackle.
