Ok the sticker shock is wearing off a bit. I strongly suspect I will continue to kick myself for not being more patient as house prices look like they might crater in a week lol.
In any case I have a vacation coming up and hope that'll clear my head.
Doesn't help that my mom is super old and I'm trying to simultaneously get out of my job. But life is life and I have it far better than most.
Asta Ingedottir |
I've been told, and firmly believe, that the best time to buy a house is when you buy it. Don't worry about equity, sticker price, etc., until you're actually in a place where you're looking at selling. Enjoy being able to paint your walls, etc., without negotiation and approval!
Glad you're getting a vacation, and hope looking for the new work goes well.
My parents are aging, I totally get what you're saying there. It is tough.
Erytheis |
I don't remember if you draw your weapons or not as part of initiative in 2e. But if you do - Erytheis can do a spell strike with her bow for +1 to hit and a few points of extra damage :)
Bow!: 1d6 ⇒ 4
GM Stargin |
Oh and you got Exacting Strike just a bit wrong Asta, it has the PRESS trait so only affects your second strike missing and making your third strike have a -10 and not a -5.
The Press trait does make it worse and since you're a shield user that wants to be using an action to raise shield on most turns, incredibly situationally useful for you at best.
I'm happy to ignore the Press trait on this feat OR give you a free retrain out of it as you want, as the flavour of Exacting Strike is pretty great for a controlled and trained fighter.
I think the remastered edition is removing either the Press trait or the Open trait because they're really fiddly.

Hmm I'll play with it now and maybe retrain later. If I understand correctly then it is better when using a three-action attack?
GM Stargin |
Asta: Yup, the Press trait on it means your attack penalty can go from 0/-5 (Exacting Strike)/-5 (IF Exacting Strike misses) rather than 0/-5/-10, as the second attack is the exacting strike and benefits the third attack ON A MISS.
It's not nothing but locks you into a full attack playstyle if you want to use it and the benefit is situational on the second attack missing. It's really fiddly.
ALSO, you're stiffing yourself, your melee attack bonus is 9, not 8. You are an expert in martial weapons which gives you level+4 bonus of 5 and then your str mod is 4, taking you to 9. The combo of that plus the horror being flatfooted is what allowed your second strike to jussst crit.
Pytho: Yup, the benefit of the three action heal is that it's a burst heal, which would affect everything around you, including foes, which would actually most probably harm the skeleton. You're right only the two action version gets that +8.
Party up, round 4.

Resembles a lot of the other fights I've had in PF2. Going down happens quick in this edition :)
Burned 2/3 (3/5 if counting focus) of my spells, don't know if that is a lot for one encounter.
If there's no hurry, I could use 10 minutes to treat wounds. I don't suppose I can refocus at the same time?
Asta Ingedottir |
I think treating wounds makes sense! Regarding the combat, I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around pf2E but I'll get there!
I see fighters are not just roll and see what happens classes anymore, which was kind of what I thought I was getting into haha.

As a GM what I enjoy about combat is all the monsters get to do fun things. All four of the monsters got their 'specials' off, dust for the broom, aid for the wisp, clinging on for the abomination, trip for the skeleton. And then you guys had pretty iconic responses, crits, heal bombs, fire arrows etc.
Pytho |
Fun fact on "targeting"... I recently started playing A song of ice and fire miniature game, and there is a 10-page clarification document and roughly as long blog post on targeting. And still people are wondering "what does this ability target..." :)

Erytheis is a bit miffed by being broomed but she'll be fine ^^
Asta Ingedottir |
FYI, I'm putting together my final pre-tenure file and will be swamped into next week. Please bot as needed. Asta can't do much without a ranged weapon so it should be easy to do!
Sorry Erytheis got broomed, Lessah :/ (your comment made me chuckle)
Erytheis |
Hmm. Seeing that the Produce Flame missed on a 16; the "very effective" prompt on the 26 spell strike wasn't a crit was it? Probably not. So maybe it's vulnerable to physical damage (or less vulnerable to fire/magic?)
Erytheis |
Effectively a vote for a nap.
Over at this end of the world it's tradition around some winter holidays to put out a meal for the fay-ish (mostly santa nowadays technically but it used to be for the santa-like fey from whom he owes his outfit :p). Figuring some may do so on golarion too - and the real fay surely enjoy free food :D
GM Stargin |
I think since fay ACTUALLY exist in Golarion there would be a stronger tradition of leaving out food for them throughout the year even in Urban spaces.
So I'll give Erytheis the free 'ancestry' feat
City Scavenger
Sure it's a 'goblin' feat, but fits here, with the additional rider that Erytheis can find 'treats' in the morning of her neighborhood without a check. Hopefully won't have to resort to this to actually Subsist in the city... but who knows?
There's also a lot of cold iron around in Korvosa... how does Erytheis feel about that?
Erytheis |
Free treats! Very nice :)
Hopefully it won't come to starvation though yeah :p
On the topic of cold iron - tingly and mildly unpleasant. I'm imagining it a bit like being close to an electic fence? Faries can probably feel the unease even just a tiny moment before accidentally touching it. Hopefully at least, otherwise she'll have to purchase gloves.
Erytheis |
People good with us taking the slow/cheap path?
We'll have to figure out something to fill our days with then.
Maybe just lazying about?
Or perhaps we'll cheap out on the infernal text - since that one is so pricy - and see what we can get out of the skald one in the meanwhile?
Erytheis |
I like the idea of sandboxes - but making decisions takes so much time in pbp ... I say we'll try to poke at the threads and see what we can find for now though.
What we have so far!
It seems Aram made a pact with [boogeyman] and in exchange was given:
1) Pub
2) Right to live/come here?
3) Some other nebulous boon?
It would be in our interest to know what [boogeyman] actually is. Is it the pact-maker or a "mere" collector?
Aram made contact with it previously so if we can trace him back before he arrived here that might provide some hints.
Also - a thought. He is irritated at the name. And barely seems human... What are the odds that Aram is dead/never existed/out of the picture and this was something else wearing his skin?
That the deal is something like "yeah sure you can take Aram's place/get a free pub but that'll cost ya X souls per CrystalHue". Seems appropriate for a thought-out pact :p
Pytho |
Yeah, let's go with the slow&cheap option. We're not that rich (and gp is much more in pf2e than it was in 1e)
I agree with Erytheis that sandboxes are nice, but pbp makes somethings challenging (like decisionmaking and info fading from memory over months of play)
I have a bit stress from work, so haven't been concentrating on this - but I'll need to browse the thread for all the leads so far.
GM Stargin |
Maybe we can designate whoever has the most attention to spare at the moment as the 'decision maker'? Right now that's Erytheis.
So we'll go with the slow option on both translations. -12 gp. One day for Skald translation. Three for Infernal.
There are also NPCs that you can go to for advice. I'll make them chatty and tolerant of being bothered.
Geezlebottle for magic stuff
Sargent Makazio for general street level info.
Cleric Hafspotter for keeping a pulse on the city and general advice
Young Guard you've paid off.
Half-elf manager of Aram's Crown.
Shake them and something should fall out.
Take a look at the kanka site as well, the calendar, characters, and journal section should help jog memories.
I've made levelling up in terms of xp and gear a big part of the campaign, after all you have a year.
I know how life can be so I'm happy to fill in when others are swamped. I think we can make this work.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sorry, got pretty sick and then got walloped at work. Working my way back into games now.
I agree that sandboxes, while lovely, are tough to make work in PBP. I'm in favor of sandish boxes, where there's some pretty clear layers just under the surface.
Asta can follow up with sarge to see if there is any new information on the official investigation.
Pytho |
Ugh, had business trip, delayed flights, and piled up work. Hopefully getting back to normal now.
Sandish box sounds like a good idea. Multiple ways forwards, but GM could present them as a list where we could vote (when the game otherwise would seem to halt) :)
