Thanks! And happy other things too; to my knowledge there's currently Passover and Ramadan as well :)
Mildly bogged down by family atm but there should be proper posting time tomorrow. Hopefully energy too :D

Poor guard, working the holidays!
Would Asta know him? Would that be a Society check?
Half tempted to try and bluff the guard to tell him to go home, Asta's been sent to relieve him. But she doesn't have ranks in bluff :/ She does however understand how the guard works so maybe there'd be a circumstance bonus involved, if that is a thing in PF2?
GM Stargin |
Yup society it is for knowing the guard. He looks pretty young, obviously lowest rank gets the worst jobs.
PF2e is actually very clear and strict about bonuses. There's item, circumstance, and status bonuses outside of the and penalties basic proficiency and attribute bonuses. The same kind of bonus does NOT stack.
In this case I probably would give you a +1 circumstance bonus in any dealing with Korvosan Guards. So that would apply to your Society check as well as bluff.
Lie checks and Recall Knowledge checks are both secret so I've rolled them for you! Go ahead and RP.
GM Stargin |
Ok, so that's secret checks, what do you guys think about them? I like the idea of them so the tension of truly not knowing something your characters shouldn't know is far more real. Buut it is very different than other games and I don't want you guys to feel robbed of dice rolls or anything like that. What do you guys think?
One thing we could do is maintain secret rolls but I reveal what the roll was after the consequence is described? I'm good with what is fun for you gys.
Erytheis |
It's good for the tension yeah. Mostly I'd worried about the GM missing some obscure or situational bonus nestled in somewhere, but there's less of those in 2e it seems :D

Sorry it took a little longer to post than expected: Realized I'm going to need to put in some trackers lol.
The PF2 Gamemastery guide has just a wonder formalization of subsystems called the "Victory Point" system. Basically tracks to see how well or not well the group is doing.
There are two tracks. One is reputation. That is provided right in the game mastery guide and folded it into how Asta is viewed by the Korvosan Guard faction: Details here: https://kanka.io/en-US/campaign/107156/notes/161968
Basically the group is liked by the Korvosan Guard, and ignored by the city in general.
The one I've built for you guys is Notoriety: All rules are here:
https://kanka.io/en-US/campaign/107156/notes/161970
Feedback welcome!
Also you guys gained on Notoriety Point in Korvosa!
Also I moved Sargent Snail's location a bit after I realized I'd put him right in Korvosan Guard HQ. He wouldn't be stationed there. He's in a small post that's supposed to keep the Citadel unbothered about what's happening in it's neighbourhood. One of the reasons Midland is so safe is the citadel looming over it. Makazio's job is to take care of truly minor matters and immediately escalate anything important that happens between Eodred street and Eodred walk to the Citadel so they can take care of it.

Sounds cool!
I'm only find the labeling reputation/notoriety as victory points a bit confusing. I understand VP's would be a degree of progress towards a goal - ie. winning something once we hit XX VP. Instead, I perhaps see reputation more of a reward system, like prestige along xp and gold. But that's just me... :)
Having said that, the actually workings of reputation and notoriety looks good. Is reputation 0 the starting point? So since we're at -2 is it because of our actions (getting jailed, etc.)?
GM Stargin |
Yeah the generic system is victory points but it's modded to serve different purposes. Better to think of them as Notoriety points and Reputation points.
I started you guys at -2 reputation as its in the ignored threshold and Korvosa is a fairly large and cynical city, it takes a bit to win such a place over. If you were in Absalom I'd probably put you at - 4 but also make it hard to drop to - 5 to capture the big city small fish big pond feel.

Kanka.io would be the logical choice for tracking inventory and stuff, if it's handy enough. Let's try...
I added finances and inventory as separate notes:
https://kanka.io/en-US/campaign/107156/notes/162178
https://kanka.io/en-US/campaign/107156/notes/162180
Can you guys edit those?
Only after adding those I noticed every entity has "Inventory" option. I don't know if that would be better way to do the tracking (seemed a bit clumsier in a glance)

So sorry, GM. It knocked me down and out for a week when I got it in March. Hopefully you're fairing better :(
So we got stuff we need translated, and a celebration. IIRC, we won't have a Skald speaker for a couple of days. Should we look for an infernal speaker today, or go eat?
Asta Ingedottir |
Glad you're feeling better, GM!
We've found a skald-speaker, just waiting on them to be available IIRC? Need to find someone that speaks Infernal still.
I'm not really sure what other options we have at this point, though the young guard could point us towards something else if he can be bribed.
Erytheis |
Depends on if her lawfulness leans more towards solving the crime or by the book. The loose cannon is probably a chaotic character though so maybe not pressure her.
We could discreetly ask if she knows anyone that speaks infernal and is trustworthy. But fairly sure she'll put one and one together; don't think our visit here will go unnoticed.
Could just start with the first thing and see how it goes? Maybe with enough "hypothetically, if we *found* this diary ..." :p
Erytheis |
I've heard it's been extra special on your side of the pond. Take care :)
Been busy for midsummer myself, luckily I didn't seem to have missed anything here :p
Happy Midsummer!

Well state of the world aside. A a lot of my current tension is very much self-inflicted.
The thing is that I just made a low ball offer on a house that I was certain would not be accepted and to my surprise it kind of was and I realize now that I was much happier renting and not having to worry about a huge mortgage in case things in the world really go sideways. The process of moving is going to take me a couple of months and really I think that I cannot concentrate on the game unfortunately.
Are you guys okay with a pause?

Sure, I'm fine with a pause, GM!
I'm currently a renter and not buying with the state of the US being what it is. That said, I think Canada is in a much better place than the states, and y'all will have us as a model of what not to do. Speaking as a former homeowner, owning a house is pretty great in most every way; once you move and get situated you'll love the actual part of being a home-owner, I'm sure. I'm sorry for the stress/tension it is causing you.
Erytheis |
Aye aye take your time :)
And congratulations to your new house; having a place where you can just drill a hole in the wall is a special feeling :p
