How do you get an AM psyche?

He is both ... just like Thunderer. But obviously more of a mutant, because Simon Williams DNA was mutated, not x-gene, and his Asgardian component is energetic, not genetic. He is meant to be both a friend, and a foil, for Thunderer; especially since Karnilla intercepted him and humanized him and gave him free-will.

Threw psyche in there because he was created by magic and it seemed thematically appropriate ... he can certainly be less than that, but it did seem like the core of his self control would come from psyche.

I wouldn't call Thunderer a 'true' Asgardian. The mutant discovered he may have some long-dormant Asgardian DNA that might be the source of his mutant, and yes, he's even fought along side them, but Thunderer knows he's a mutant: a mortal. Not an immortal Asgardian. With the methods of The Five, Thunderer knows he's not a true immortal.

Exactly

So it's perfect.

If the answer is RM everything, then that's the answer.
Let me know.

Well, I hit an incredibly solid writer's block trying to come up with some backstory for either Tempest or Valence.

I was reminded why I never really liked Mutant origins, since they just sort of... happen. It's the Harry Potter syndrome, of a "normal" person being thrust into a new and strange world of fantastical powers. Very wish fulfillment but I'm afraid I'm past that in my life right now.

So... I thought I wanted someone normal, but who manifested a mutant power and get pulled away into the strange world of Krakoa and mutant politics, but I'm struggling to develop the normal person. They're just... too normal.

Best I could come up with for Valence is a school science nerd who loves chemistry and is scarily good at it, and then manifests glowing eyes as the sign that they're a mutant. Bigotry keeps them from getting accepted into the science major at the university they want to join because of their mutant gene, until a Krakoan delegation shows up and takes them to the new mutant nation.

It feels very weak-sauce and I'm not happy with it at all. So... I don't know what to do at this point.

I say keep the origin. Not every mutant origin has to 'set the world on fire'. It's like you said. Some mutants wake up one day and have powers. It could be your character that keeps the other mutants grounded in reality, malleable as it is.

To me it feels brilliant & compelling and it would be amazing to see where you go with it. Maybe instead of thinking of this character as previously normal, you should look at how special they already were.

There are people who spend their whole lives trying to find any kind of passion for anything, yet this person found they loved chemistry. Of those that find a passion, many need to strive for it, and yet this character finds they are gifted. They have everything they need for an extraordinary life ... until actually becoming extraordinary robs them of their dreams.

They dreamed of Brown, or Princeton, or Colombia yet these dreams were ripped away from them. No one in their right mind dreams of being stigmatized, much less being dragged off to the mutant freak show nation. What is it like to look at yourself through the eyes that ruined the life you wanted? What kind of pain, anger, and resentment could this person have?

To me this person, picking up the pieces, building new dreams, has the makings of awesomeness.

BACKSTORY PREMISE:

Amora (even her subconscious plots to hurt Thor) unwittingly creates a companion for Thor’s great great great godson, Thunderer; a genetic amalgam of Quentin Quire and Simon Williams infused with Asgardian Energy as opposed to energy. Karnilla intercepts the creation, Simon Omega, on its way to Krakoa, and seeing that it knows nothing of Earth or Asgard or Mutants, and needs to desperately, she implants this knowledge, knowing it will take time for it to assimilate. She also divines some background on both of the boy’s “fathers” and why Amora’s subconscious would have chosen them.

"I saw your eyes, mutie!"

Richard "Val" Valentine pretended not to hear, and just shoved his hands in his pockets while fighting the urge to shove his sunglasses closer to his face. That would only give him away that he'd heard them.

"Hey! No mutants on this block! I'm talkin' to you!"

Ignoring them wasn't working. They were following, Val could tell, and drawing unwanted attention. Other people on the street were quickly finding other places to be.

Val looked up ahead and saw a couple like-minded individuals heading his way, making continuing straight an unwise decision. Turning around, similarly, wouldn't work. Noticing he was about to pass by an empty basketball court surrounded by a chain-link fence, he ducked through there, hoping to cut across to the next street over.

"Oh, no you don't! That court's for humans only! Now you really going to pay!"

It's not like I'm being given much of a choice, Val thought as he broke into a jog to cross the courts quickly. His heart sank when he saw the opposite gate chained and locked.

Val spun to see his pursuers now inside the basketball courts, circling around him. He moved to his left, hoping to get around them but it became obvious they weren't going to let him pass. He moved to one of the basketball poles, putting his back against it as he was surrounded. "I don't want any trouble."

The ringleader scoffed. "You muties bring nothing but trouble. You and your freak powers... this is a human only neighborhood. What're doing here anyway?"

Nothing, just getting turned down for admission to Northwestern, Val thought, but knew better to voice it. "Passing through. You'll never see me again."

"Damn right, but we'll need you to send a message to the rest of you mutie freaks." The leader kept Val's attention while two of the others came in from either side and grabbed his hands. They pulled his arms behind the basketball pole, giving the leader free reign to snatch the sunglasses off his face.

The group cackled when Val's glowing eyes were revealed. "I knew it! Damn mutant freak!" he said as he tossed the shades to the ground and stomped on them. Val struggled, but didn't have the strength to break the grip of the two men holding his arms.

"Glowing eyes. Damn. What's your powers? Got X-ray vision? You checking me out? Or you readin' my thoughts? Read this!" His eyes narrowed and his face scrunched up.

Thank goodness, no, Val thought.

"Heh," the leader chuckled as he was apparently proud of whatever image he formed in his head. "You better not have any freaky eye beams like that one guy."

"No, I got nothing. I'm just a freak, like you said. Let me go, please. I get it, humans only." Gotta give them a chance.

The laughter from his assailants told him everything. Val was in for a lot of pain, if he survived.

I control molecular forces, he imagined himself telling them while he gripped the metal he was pressed up against. The surface rust spots grew as the metal oxidized rapidly under his influence. I can speed up chemical reactions. Before the leader could throw his first punch, there was a loud screech of protesting metal as the basketball pole, backboard and hoop suddenly collapsed. One of the two men didn't react fast enough and it landed on him, pinning him to the ground.

"What the f%$*?!?" the leader shouted as he stepped back, amazed at the wildly improbable happenstance. He lifted his shirt and pulled a small automatic handgun. "What'd you do?!?" he yelled as he pointed the gun at Val.

I can also slow chemical reactions down, like what goes on in a bullet cartridge. The hammer fell on the bullet's primer, but instead of a small but powerful explosion within the casing, the gunpowder sputtered. The bullet was expelled, but at a fraction of the speed and without the force necessary to eject the spent shell. The gun was jammed.

The two standing assailants stared dumfounded at the gun. Val took that moment to run, sprinting at the chainlink fence. He lept and started climbing over it. And I can excite the electrons in most materials creating a static electric charge, he thought as he reached the top and threw a leg over the side. He jumped down just as the pair reached the fence. The moment they touched the metal of the chain link fence, a loud pop sounded and the smell of ozone filled the air as they were blasted back into the court.

Val paused to make sure they were still breathing, then turned and ran.

Stats:
F - Ex
A - Gd
S - Ex
E - In
R - Ty
I - Gd
P - Ex
H - 90
K - 36

Powers:
1. Natural weaponry - Horns. Bantha uses these to smash down doors or villains. They seem to appear on his face at random, but in fact he has limited control of when they appear and disappear if he is conscious and not berserk.
2. Armor Skin - Rm. Thick plates and matted fur appear out of nowhere, like the horns.
3. Tracking - Ex. Only in his enlarged form, Bantha can use his nose to track.
4. Iron Will - Ex. Bantha's strange body structure and years of bashing his head into walls have resulted in a build-up of resistance to attacks and powers. When his last bit of health runs out, he crashes hard, usually leaving a crater around his still form.

End of Part I

Part II - Bantha's Tale

Esteban:

Jack O'Connell was an astronaut studying cosmic radiation on the Intl. Space Station. He was going to be rich and famous, or at least get powers like the Fantastic Four. When he splashed down in the Philippines, all he had was cancer, however, and a few bumps and bruises. For three months, he sat in the hospital, getting his chemo and waiting for his super powers. They never arrived. One night, he snuck out to a local bar, got ridiculously drunk and had a one-night stand that he would never remember, and the waitress would never forget.

Elena Trejo couldn't believe her luck when she fell instantly in love with the handsome American celebrity. Then her luck went back to what it had always been: abysmal. He left her with nothing but a baby and she never saw him again. She tried writing letters, but her English wasn't strong and she didn't really know where to send them at NASA. Her luck held true to form when her son Esteban started manifesting mutant powers and breaking everything in their small apartment. She did the best she could for him, but could not keep him off the streets forever.

Esteban was teased and bullied mercilessly as a child and young teenager. He learned to avoid certain parts of the city, but there were bullies in school too. One April afternoon in a stairwell, a couple of bullies demanded his watch and shoes, but actually just wanted someone to beat up. The more they punched and kicked Esteban, however, the less it hurt. He closed his mind to the pain and it stopped hurting entirely. They still held him against a wall so he head-butted one and that was the day his life changed forever. The bully was now the unconscious victim and it didn't hurt "Ban" at all. So he headbutted the other one with the same result. He rubbed his temples and found enormous horns where there had been nothing seconds before. He waited, caught his breath, and they were gone, so he went to class as if nothing had happened. (The boys were later found to have major concussions, but Ban couldn't care less.)

Ban was no longer afraid to walk the streets. Now he could pick a fight and no one could scratch him, let alone bruise him. He flinched when someone tried a baseball bat and then a knife, but they had no effect when he knew they were coming. (A cheap shot punch in the cafeteria got him once, but then he learned to control his power more and stay alert to threats.) The visual effect of his horns and armor were usually enough to prevent trouble on the streets and his reputation became legendary as a mutant. He worked odd jobs as a bodyguard and even the police hired him to knock down doors on raids and absorb the gunfire. But they didn't respect him and he felt like an outcast, with everyone looking sideways at him and no one inviting him to the bar after a successful raid. There was one place that a mutant could be a mutant and maybe even a hero... the island.

Very interesting especially since sonfew Filipino characters.

Opening this up again... We have a Judge and two players. Can we find three more?

Looks like fun, I have a lot of fond memories of playing this with my brother. I’ll have to review the character creation rules to see what my rolls mean and to see what else I need to roll. Anyway, I should have the mechanical side done today and fluff to follow shortly. All mutants right?

Just might be interested. I used to LOVE MSH/FASERIP back in the day. What's the storyline/background you're using?

Update: Nevermind, I found it. ;)

Since the creation rules were never posted in one spot I have some questions:
1. Does the remarkable limit on abilities apply to rolled abilities or just if you choose your ability scores?
2. Which books tables are you using for random generation of powers and talents?
3. Who are the current supers (and powers) on the team?

Thanks,
KoY

Hi, KoY and KH,

Yes to "all mutants." Yes to the limit of Remarkable. Judge Terevalis said we could just create/conceive characters and not have to roll randomly. I believe the UPG is fair game, but you might avoid the universe-altering stuff.

Current characters are Thunderer and Bantha.

Id be up for something potentially.

Here is Knight of Yesterday’s submission. Crunch is done but I still need to come up with an origin and other fluff.

He is a fish looking mutant with… well… you guessed it, fish person powers.

Roll adjustments:
1. I did not use the re-roll for reason as his poor reason works better with the background/origin I have in mind.
2. Increased endurance per mutant origin and used the re-roll on this.
3. Decreased agility and strength from Incredible to remarkable per GM guidelines.
4. I deviated from my rolled powers a bit.

Hey Esteban, am I all good?

Huntressa wrote:

You should lower your Agility and Reason to Remarkable. That was the limit established by Terevalis.

Gotcha

All fixed up now, just need a bit more backstory

Hello all. I was not aware until a few days ago that recruitment was going on. I had inactivated this because I saw no activity for a few days. I had intended to run this game but I lost a really good friend last Friday and with other work commitments I do not think I can emotionally handle running another game right now.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So, fellow players, we put all this effort into building characters. Shall we try to find another Judge? I guess I could be the double redundancy emergency back-up, but I really want to play.

Sorry for your loss Terevalis.

Waskally, are you still here?

Grand Lodge

sorry to hear about your friend. Totally understandable...

My condolences.

Esteban, I'd still be interested if we find a judge in the meantime.

Cool. Anyone else?
