So, Terevalis, can I ask what your thoughts are for the "theme" of this game? I imagine it's going to go one of two ways, so I'm curious which way you think it's going to be more like:

1. The characters are part of the newest-formed X team, going out on missions as assigned to them by the old guard. Probably globe-trotting, using the various Krakoan gateways to venture forth and act on behalf of downtrodden mutants everywhere. In this game, the inherent weirdness of Krakoa and the mutant nation is sort of "back seat."

2. The characters are newly-arrived on Krakoa, trying to adjust to a nearly alien landscape and the fact that everyone around them has powers. They might form a team and go out on missions, but that takes a backseat to the otherworldliness of Krakoa and their mutant countrymen/women.

The reason I ask, is that Tempest would get along great in number 1. His very existence is already wrapped up in X-weirdness and doesn't know anything else.

Valence, on the other hand, is a character I'm envisioning as being appropriate for number 2. Grew up in a normal town, to normal parents, and got invited to join the mutant nation quite recently. So there's going to be an adjustment period that I think would be a lot of fun to explore.

Any thoughts to that?

I was thinking a mix of the 2

Well I came up with G-Force's name (Jacen James “JJ” Howlett) based on a Nathan Summers idea I had: what about the potential offspring of Jean & Logan that we never really hear about and totally should have happened?

AND

What if Logan's healing factor, as applied to psychic stability and mental health in addition to physical, provided the neccesary foundation for the Phoenix-Force to manifest in a benign manner?

So this child is born, and its psyche calls out to the Phoenix Force. Voila, the untold story of: Bright Phoenix. Powers patterned after Rachel, of course, including the Mutant Detection. Higher level TK, lower level Telepathy, extremely durable.

Campaign-wise, he also becomes the ultimate GM's tool as a foil for events at almost any scale. While he only manifests and uses abilities at Remarkable(RM) levels to start, through the Phoenix Force, GM can place him in touch with events anywhere in the world (or Universe) really. Then it's up to the team to figure out, through Krakoa, thru other X's, thru the Professor, how these issues can be addressed or resolved.

Just some thoughts :)
Bright Phoenix

Why would the Phoenix Force go to Rachel? What about Echo and the Avengers?

Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti wrote:

?

Rachel Summers, daughter of Jean & Scott, IS the Phoenix from the awful mutant hunting Bishop & Cable future.

I'm proposing a "better" Phoenix than that, with powers patterned like Rachel's.

Oops, should have been not go to Rachel? Cable and Bishop are not from Days of Futures Past, I dont think.

Does this look correct from a creation and formatting perspective?

Rolled 80 which is Incredible and you said Remarkable was max for starting stats, right?

Okay, then. If there's going to be some focus on the weirdness of Krakoa, I think Valence would be a better fit for the game.

Unless you like the story potential of Tempest -- we're getting a lot of legacy characters as submissions.

Valence

Fighting: 1d100 ⇒ 60 Excellent
Agility: 1d100 ⇒ 62 Remarkable
Strength: 1d100 ⇒ 15 Typical
Endurance: 1d100 ⇒ 17 Typical ==> Good
Reason: 1d100 ⇒ 24 Good
Intuition: 1d100 ⇒ 41 Excellent
Psyche: 1d100 ⇒ 99 Amazing?? ==> Remarkable

Health = 66
Karma = 60

Maybe, switch the Reason and the Psyche, since being smart works well for this sort of character.

Talents: 1d100 ⇒ 56 2/6
Rather than roll, I think it'd be appropriate to have:
Chemistry
Physics

I guess my question is, what about his background or power set could justify that?>

If you look in the Advanced book, the one that has the baddies on the cover, IIRC, there is a table on the early pages that kind of gives an explanation of the rankings as well as equivalent to characters.

My oops was confusing Earth-811 & Earth-295, thank you, duh, my bad.

That leaves a couple questions, most noteably, who is currently around on Earth-616 who would use the Phoenix Force? Has there ever been more than one person accessing it at the same time?

I happen to love the legacy thing versus a bunch of randos or morlocks or something. I think the tie backs to character history are awesome, AND it's very Marvel to be honest. Would be cool for someone like Magik to totally f*k-up and accidently create like a Mutant Legacy Vortex that sucks a bunch of mutants from other Earths into Earth-616 ... and they're all stuck until the magic and/or science communities can figure out what happened.

The Phoenix is one of my favorites. Right now an Avenger named Echo is the host, insert eye roll

It's one of my favorite parts of the Marvel Universe ... well it was, until I read this:

"When the cosmic force known as the Phoenix Force returned to Earth, it staged a contest to determine its next host, and Echo was one of many individuals summoned to the White Hot Room for it. The Phoenix empowered the assembled champions and had them fight each other in trials by combat.[22] In one of the earliest bouts of the tournament, Echo was pitted against Namor at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.[23] Due to the favored battle conditions, Namor overpowered Echo and left her for dead in the ocean floor.[24]

The Phoenix was drawn to Maya's suffering, as well as her ability to adapt and wield its power in different ways. It resurrected Echo and chose her as its host. During the final round of the tournament, Echo resurfaced from the bottom of the ocean and proceeded to intercept all the different fights taking place across the globe. Absorbing the portions of the Phoenix from each of the remaining contestants, Maya fully became the Phoenix.[25] Afterward, she relocated to the Avengers Mountain so that the Avengers could study her new condition."

I may just take a Nate Grey approach ... ;)

Apologies gang - I'm going to reluctantly step away from this one. Some dormant games I've been involved with are stirring to life more and I've ended up with a fuller plate than I typically take on.

Appreciate the opportunity and will keep an eye on the game :)

Good luck and Excelsior!

I hate what they did to the Phoenix Force in A v. X

I've been pissed ever since they took the Phoenix title away from Rachel Summers.

Rachel gets done dirty a lot by writers that do not know how to write her.

Well Nate Grey is hotter anyway, so I will dig a little deeper there.
Maybe that other girl will have "issues" in our reality ;)

Excalibur was always my favorite of the X-titles. Especially when it was Alan Moore and Chris Claremont.

Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti wrote:

"Splinter of the Phoenix" would be like the coolest title of an epic or a saga. Like if the character represented a lost fragment of the Phoenix Force and it wanted to be whole again.

So how malleable are things vs what was rolled. I mean I could cobble together part of the back story that she is naturally stubborn and hard headed, possibly dealt with a telepath at one point had had to build up her natural resistances to psychic incursion via meditation and practice and such.

Were you able to find the hero equivalence in the source I referenced?

Not really, there is a section using Osprey as an example and they compare him to Cap. Is that what you are referring to?

And looks like I messed up powers again, the more I read the less I understand lol

If you look at pages 5 and 6 of the Judge's Handbook, there's a whole listing of the various FASERIP ranks and examples of various heroes who would have abilities at that rank. Like, Spider-Man has Incredible Strength and Amazing Agility, while Thor and Hulk have Unearthly Strength; Reed Richards has Amazing Reason, and so on.

It's a source of benchmarks for considering what sort of ranks your character should have.

Excellent, thanks

Yes.

That is the source! I could not remember the name right off the top of my head.

Am I also allowed to request an increase to stats if I have a valid reason? Or selecting different talents than what was rolled, again with a reason?

I want to limit it right now to RM so that the group can develop. Most beginning groups start off low.

Remember I never said you had to roll for things.

How is everyone doing in terms of origin and character creation?

Is there any additional work you'd like me to do on Thunderer? If not, he's ready to go!!

I think I am zeroing in better and should be able to refine my concept shortly: I want him to be an amazing flyer and really well protected, but less good at the fine tuned aspects of telekinesis. I want to give him something to work on. I will define some better sower stunts for him to showcase the strengths and weaknesses.

Amora, in yet another crazed plot to hurt Thor, unwittingly conceives a companion for Thor’s great godson, Thunderer; a genetic amalgam of Quentin Quire and Simon Williams infused with Asgardian Energy this time rather than ionic energy. Karnilla intercepts the creation on its way to Krakoa, seeing that it knows nothing of Earth or Asgard or Mutants, and needed to, desperately. She implants this knowledge, knowing it will take time for it to assimilate, and also divines some background on both of the boy’s “fathers” and why Amora’s subconscious would have chosen them.
… End Summary …

checking in to see how everyone is doing.

Is Wonder Boy a mutant or an Asgardian?
How do you get an AM psyche?

Terevalis Unctio of House Mysti wrote:

How do you get an AM psyche?

He is both ... just like Thunderer. But obviously more of a mutant, because Simon Williams DNA was mutated, not x-gene, and his Asgardian component is energetic, not genetic. He is meant to be both a friend, and a foil, for Thunderer; especially since Karnilla intercepted him and humanized him and gave him free-will.

Threw psyche in there because he was created by magic and it seemed thematically appropriate ... he can certainly be less than that, but it did seem like the core of his selfcontrol would come from psyche.

perhaps he is learning to control it?

That was why I made flight higher, because the only thing he has spent extensive time doing is flying (and Karnilla implanted extra knowledge in him) and I would be willing to lower energy blast actually, maybe with a complication around getting angry ...

This is someone who really was "born yesterday" as it were
