Ancient Defenders (Round One)

Ahmitar stops short of entering the Courtyard as the party casts a few spells before crossing the threshold. Rusted weapons and old bone shards speckle the dirt floor of this wide open space. In the center stands a thirty-foot-tall sculpture of a pagoda, with hundreds of thin carved runes all over it's miniature tiers. Open doorways stand in each of the cardinal directions, all with pairs of flanking staircases leading upwards to each doorway.

Four of the runes - each perhaps a centimeter tall and several wide, suddenly begin to glow with a pale violet light, and adjacent to the pagoda, four pale violet clouds of misty vapors begin to materialize, each starting to take the shape of humanoid warriors bearing monastic weapons!

Even worse, now two of them flew up and are pummeling her. One of them hit really hard! Meanwhile the other one sneezes on Slick. Just her luck.

She focuses to heal herself and lets the magic flow through her.

Cirri's arms grow wooden branches as her legs thicken into wooden stumps (don't look, it's embarrassing!) Her skin hardens into a wooded finish.

Okay, so Osh has a Marshal dedication so he grants everyone within 10 feet a +1 status bonus on saves against fear.

As will be demonstrated soon, they can resist physical damage, with twice that resistance against non-magical weapons, but force and positive will cut right through - as will ghost touch weapons.

How did Billy come to know this?

When he challenged her, she'd always give him the same warning: "You'd best start believing in ghost stories, Billy. You may be in one ... someday." He wonders how she could know.

For all of Slick's zeal, he knows how to back it up. His blade goes through thrice without it reacting. Did he just say "You're already dead?" The ghost looks quizzical before busting into astral confetti.

Slick looks down at the hooked sword wielding defender below him.

Haven't heard back on whether the Blue Defender is within reach of Slick at the top of the stairs, so I'll have to assume not.

He calls down. "Hold up there ghosty. I'll be right down." He then charges down the stairs, turns the corner and charges back toward the misty monk. As he approaches the ghost, he raises his sword high and brings it slicing down in a great arc through the creature. "Take that you facinorous phantom."

Slick looks over to see the deer-shaped poppet finish off the last of the ghosts with a flick of its antlers. "Nice work, Osh. For a moment there, I didn't think you'd be seeing the end of the fight, but you came through strong in the end." Despite his full suit of armor, it doesn't look like the burly fighter even broke a sweat during the short conflict.

He goes over to where the ghost with the sword went down and picks up the fancy hooked weapon with the runes. "Beautiful sword this. I wonder what it is?" He then examines it more closely to figure out what the runes say.

When the final ghost dissipates, Billy begins applauding from up on the platform. "Oh jolly good show, everyone!" He skips down the steps into the courtyard.

Looking at the pagoda, he reminds everyone. "The pagoda is radiating as magic. As is the northern doorway." He studies the pagoda, from where he is.

GM, when you said northern doorway, you meant up the stairway to the north? Or did you mean the northern part of the pagoda?

Billy then looks to Cirri and asks, "M'lady, for those who need healing, is your Vital Beacon still active?" To the others he adds, "After that, I'm happy to provide some quick healing (i.e. Battle Medicine, immune for just 1 hour, not 1 day) for anyone who needs it." He looks around for any takers.

As he examines the hooked sword's runes, Slick's eyes bulge slightly and his handsome jaw drops open in surprise when he figures out what it is he's holding in his hands. His face then breaks out into a huge smile. "This is my lucky day guys. This pretty thing here has a Greater Striking Rune on it, which is way better than the regular old Striking Rune that's on my greatsword right now. Too bad it's currently on this toothpick, but once Billy transfers it to my greatsword, watch out!"

Osh sits down, tired and worn out. He looks around at the others around him.

"Huh. Who are you folk? What... where am I?". The post rage fugue sets in before things slowly drift back.

Looks like poppets are living creatures and treat wounds works on living creatures so any Medicine check should work on him.

"What is this vital beacon you speak of? My knowledge of magics is quite lacking, surprisingly.". He pokes the holes in his side with one of his hooves. "Think it'll heal up my wounds?"

Currently at 73/193 hp, so any healing would be nice!

The deer peers over to Slick. "That's wonderful! A rune like that will surely help you!"
