Corso's round 3:

Moving through the trees to keep a safe distance between him and the berserker, Corso takes the full gravity of the situation when he watches Kal get mowned down. Better to stay clear... He profits from his movement to duck out of sight, behind a tree, trying to conceal his intention and catch the berserker off guard.

Move 15 feet, mostly away from the berserker and hide.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

He then takes careful aim and releases another shaft, praying to Calistria for the man to go down.

Male Human Ranger

round 3:
Garick will fire at Rok if he is still up on my inititive1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 101d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12then he will run up to stand over Kal to insure that no one can attack him again. If Rok is down then Garick will move to Kal and fire at the closest bandit. -1 to attack and damage if more than 30' away.


Round 3, woods ambush (map)

(22) Ox calls out the order of the Lion's challenge to Rok, as he steers Noir toward the beast of a man, putting his heels into his steed and spurning him onward lowering his lance and from the top of his lungs the roar of a lion rings out. This attack finishes him and the barbarian falls to the ground run through.

(17) Servayn adjusts his position to stand directly between the wounded sorcerer and the bandits and turns his crossbow upon the bandit in the tree in front of him. The man yells out as he's hit in the arm.

Ember lays on the ground burning and smoking. His essence boils forth into the air. Stability Check DC 10 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (8) - 8 = 0 (Ember HP: -10) In a final flash of fire and smoke the eidolon vanishes.

The gray-winged eagle spins about and strikes at the bandit shot by Servayn.

(4) The bandit being attacked by the eagle decides to leap to safety.

The two unmolested bandits fire upon Garick, still seeing him as the biggest threat.

Janku plants his greatsword in the ground and channels energy to heal his fallen comrades.Still using the tree as cover from arrows.

Using selective channeling so not to heal any of the bad guys. Gosh do I ever hate this dice roller :-(.

OK, I had a totally different map of where I was. I can see now why you didn't mention my missed shot, but towards another target as the berserker was felled by Ox.

Corso's round 4:

Moving cautiously to remain hidden, Corso places himslef behind the horses to get a long but clear shot at the bandit in the tree nearest him. Holding his breath, he takes careful aim through the canopy covering the bandit, then releases the arrow.

MA: half move to J3 and stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
SA: Arrow to b1
Shortbow: to hit 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 82

spells known are under Offense in his profile, but he hadn't yet gotten close enough to use grease, and, silly me, I thought that they'd all either started climbing down, or fallen already! I didn't realize that b1 and either b2 or b3 were still in the trees!

Round 4

Spoiler:

Servayn steps to directly in front of the fallen Kalsgrim, and casts a spell, valde lubricus! conjuring forth a wash of bubbling black slime coating the tree limb that the closest bandit sits upon (b2 on the map, Reflex save DC 15 or oops).

The conjured eagle attempts another charge attack, but inadvertantly targets the same bandit (since it couldn't charge b1 anyway, due to the tree in the way).

Eh, I should have looked at the map before my action anyway, and I would've seen how stuff was laid out, rather than just assuming. It's all good.

Grimacing through the pain, Lukasz moves up to Garrick's side and touches him on the back. Letting fate flow through him, he says, "May fate guide your fletched arrow."

Round 4, woods ambush (map)

(22) Ox moves to provide cover for his friends and draws his own bow.

He slips off of the greased branch and lands on his head. Crack! His neck twists at a bizarre angle and he goes limp.

The conjured eagle flies around the tree and tears a large chunk from the remaining bandit's back.

Keeping his Greatsword planted and calling again upon the Lord in Iron for healing energy Janku continues, once again excluding the bad guys from his grace.

"I know that some of these were fawning over another god recently, but please put aside your jealousy for a moment, and help your humble servant to survive". "I'm sure over time even the stubborn will truly see your power, might and mercy, but we must stay alive to do so". "So I ask for your healing touch once again".

The celestial eagle shrieks it's frustration as it dissolves into clouds of grey smoke that give off the bitter smell of smelted iron.

Servayn dismisses it, negating it's attack sequence for the round.

He reaches down to Kalsgrim behind him, and wordlessly offers their leader a hand to his feet, so that he can recover his blade and his footing all the sooner.

A wise choice, brigand. See to your former companions, if any yet have breath in their bodies.

Once Kalsgrim has regained his footing, Servayn steps over to also check the fallen bandits. If any have not yet died, he will attempt to staunch their wounds, calling out as he does so.

Hm. Apparently amputation was not the recommended course of treatment for a scalp wound...


Male Human Cleric 1 (Unholy Barrister)

Pain lancing through him, Lukasz does what he can to pull the arrow from his wound as the divine image of an arrow withdraws from his body. Once the arrow is out, we will glare at the still living bandit. Not having as much mercy as before in light of his grievous wound.


Finally getting to the scene, Corso is oubviously displeased and overdoes it a little, trying to look helpful and useful, keeping an arrow in the direction of the surviving bandit.

"They completely got me by surprise! I'm sorry I've failed you; I should have seen them."

He eventually moves over to the base of the trees where they where hiding and checks to see whether it was a permanent look out or if they climbed in haste when they saw the group approach.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Looking at the berserker's medallion: Are we getting near the Stag Lord's camp? This guy will tell us.

He moves back towards the surviving bandit, bringing others if possible: "Now, if you value your life, speak: What were you doing here?" As others ask questions, he watches intently at the bandit, trying to detect falsehood.

Sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10


M Human Cavalier /1st

Ox rides over to Corso and hops off of his horse. Walking up to the remaining bandit his hand on hilt. I have little patience for those that would take my family's lives, answer his questions and you will live, give me the slightest excuse and I will take it.

If the bandit seems properly cowed. Ox will grab his coil of rope and start to bind the man, probably a bit excessively and not the least bit gently.

also if my skills seem a bit better than the were before, I hadn't been adding the +3 for class skills.


The bandit spends several minutes very carefully working his way down the tree. Of the wounded men only one of them has not died from his injuries.

"We found what was left of Kressle's camp a couple days ago. Rok sent a man to the Stag Lord and decided to start hunting for you on his own knowing there would be a reward for your heads. He never did like Kressle, said she was too strong willed for a woman." Despite bleeding from his slashed back the man tends to the only other survivor. "One of our men saw you entering Oleg's. When you left the following day heading in this direction he raced straight here and we setup this ambush."

While the man speaks Corso looks around the area. It does appear that they merely climbed the trees some time this day and waited for the party to approach. He also gathers up the fallen men's items.

The last man standing is scruffy and looks like he's overdue for a shave. As Ox ties him up he asks, "Who are you people anyways? Another clan of bandits? I see Tuck over there, he was one of Kressle's men, did he overthrow her? Are you working for him?"

We are certainly not rival bandits. Surely you must have suspected that this anarchy in this region could not go on forever unchallenged?

Tuck is the only member of Kressle's gang who didn't die, when the law of Brevoy came to these lands. Servayn says, in answer to the bandits questions. Working to help us secure these lands is his sentence for acts of banditry, and allows him to avoid the noose.

While talking, Servayn checks the body of the largest man to see if he also had a silver stag amulet.


There was indeed an amulet on his person!

The man mutters to himself, "Well no one ever same before... and the Stag Lord and his lieutenants seemed to have everything settled in these woods."


Tuck approaches the group leading most of the unattended animals. "Sorry about not helping. I was busy keeping the horses from panicking and racing off into the woods. I'm not the best with animals though. Kressle dealt with this Rok a couple times, he's right, the two didn't get along well."

After handing off the horses to their proper owners he stands with a leg crossed. "There where two others who seemed to lead their own groups of men in the woods. One was a crafty fellow, a halfling with the name of Bennin Barrowsnatch. He's a story teller with a sharp tongue.It surprised me to see one of the small folk take to banditry but there was a cruel streak to his stories."

"The other was an elf. I only caught his first name when we dealt with him and his. Lyndalan. He showed up in the middle of the night with four other elves like wraiths. They traded compliments and left before morning."

how long ago did your messenger leave? and how far are we from the stag camp? Ox asks as he ties the last loop around the bandits wrists, until more civil minds are ready to decide his fate. He glances at Noir and realizes the rest on foot a man on horse would have any easy time catching a man on foot. if time is in their favor then the messenger should be their next point of interest.


"Well the the fort is about three easy days from Kressle's camp on foot. Rok told him to run through the night so I'm sure he's already made it there." He says a bit smugly.

Oh, well that is nice for him, he'll get to relax a bit before he dies then. Ox smirks at the cocky bandit and leans in letting a cold hearted whisper find its way into the parasite's ear. what about you bandit? when will you die, hmmm? I've heard that the stag lord thinks little of failure? tossing mean over the wall just to watch what happens. perhaps you'd like us to leave a note for him attached to you, and tie you to one of these trees? hmmm, does that sound suitable? leave you here as the lone surviving failure of Rok's little band? think you're runner will get there in time to save your hide? his voice then raises, or perhaps you'd like to beg one of the men that are better then me for your pathetic life.

Thank you Janku seems they like to put arrows into my hide. Garick looks over to Kal You alright Kal? he sees Ox talking to the last bandit and walks over hearing the last of the conversation about the runner he looks to see if he can find a trail. tracking 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Ox looks for a trail as well, becoming less interested in the bandit standing there and more interested in the hunt for the runner.

Ox then gets a good Idea as he looks for tracks. Tuck, what would the most direct route be from here to the camp?

(not that I succeeded,but had I succeeded would I have been able to aid him with out having a rank in survive? it says you can use it untrained.just not sure if you can aid untrained.)


"Looks like we shouldn't waste time and get the fight to the Stag Lord. If a messenger has reached him and he knows that we are based at Oleg's, It doesn't look good for him and his wife. Does everyone feel rested enough and ready to get on the Stag's trail?"

If we ride hard I still think we may be able to catch this messenger if there even is one. Garick says as he continues to look for tracks.


There are numerous tracks on the ground. Most obvious are your own leading back to the edge of the plains. Another set of seven lead deeper into the forest to the southwest. If what the man says is true then the messenger's trail could be picked up from the Thorn River camp.

Part of me wants to run him down as well brother, but if we don't catch him then we run right into the face of a fight wounded and weary. we could set out for the thorn camp wait for them there, or head back to Olegs and defend, surely they will come. if we are going to the stags camp, we need to do so at our best. Ox shrugs.
that's my two copper, anyhow. he says looking to Kal and the others.


"When I was at the fort I only counted seven bandits in addition to the Stag Lord. I'm sure that number changes but with Keston at Oleg's he'll need more to have a successful attack. These bandits usually won't go into a fight unless the odds are at least even. If this group is their target it's probably the field lieutenants we need to worry about." Tuck comments while double checking the knots on the two extra prisoners. "What will you guys do with these two? We don't have a wagon or any extra horses, and the mule only has packs on it."

I say we ride like the wind and try and catch him if we get close to the Staglords we can fall back to Oleg's. What say you my Lord? Garick looks to Kal for a decision on the matter. I don't love the idea, but our best riders could try and catch the messenger the rest head back to Oleg's and we meet up there one way or the other.

Servayn steps to the side, and begins a lengthy invocation, muttering under his breath as he draws a diagram on the ground with ash from his pouch.

One minute to summon Ember, who should return at half hit points. I can only summon him once per day, so if he dies again today, he's done for the day.

Smoke and sparks billow forth from the circle, and Ember steps forth, still bearing signs of wounds from the previous combat, but not nearly as damaged as he was when he vanished.

Ember shies away from Servayn's touch and growls, Angry now. before stalking over to the oversized bandit who cut him down and gripping the man's body by the throat. Apparently the gesture is symbolic, some sort of assertation of dominance, as he doesn't do any damage before skulking away.


Tuck looks up and studies the trees around them. After rubbing his hand on his chin he finally concludes, "If we ride southwest we'll hit the Thorn River, follow it to the edge of the forest and then cut across the hills...hrmm...I think we might be able to make it in twenty-four hours. Be there by early evening tomorrow. However if that messenger left Kressle's two days ago and ran through the night he's there for sure."


I'll live, thanks to Janku. I don't believe we are in any condition to face the Stag Lord or his full forces at the moment, but I don't think we can delay the confrontation much longer either.

Theres was a cure potion on one of the bandits, if any of you are still feeling rough. Ox pats Garrick on the shoulder. we'll get them and they'll regret the day they stole their first copper.

Ox glances around for any wild life to fire an arrow at in an attempt to cheer Ember.

misunderstood I thought the runner took off this morning when they saw us not a couple days ago.


There where two. One who was sent after they found Kressle's camp two days ago. The other was a scout who spotted the group at Oleg's and returned to give a warning to setup the ambush.

Well what now Kel back to Oleg's to drop off the rabble, continue on as we were, or go and face the Staglord? Garick asks


Visibly ready to go, Corso presses on, a little annoyed: "Look, we can't just get a week off everytime we get a bruise! They are on to us. We're losing the initiative. I say we make haste and don't give them time to mobilize."

He walks back and forth, looking at everyone to see how they feel: "And we will be able to recuperate some on the trail, no? We won't be there today. so we'll make sure we get a good night's sleep."


Male Human Cleric 1 (Unholy Barrister)

And what of the prisoners?" Lukasz says, "Don't know about you, but I don't want to march on the Staglord's camp hauling behind a prisoners while we are not at full strength. And as much as I am feeling inclined to let him dies out here after that last arrow to the chest, I say we head back, drop the prisoners off, THEN head off to face this Staglord."


"I know I'm not much more then a prisoner myself, but I could take these two back to Oleg's tonight and return to the group tomorrow. That way you can continue exploring and keeping an eye open for the other bandits. I could also give Keston a heads up, maybe they can send a letter for a couple more men," says Tuck stepping forward. "If not me, maybe one of the others but that'll leave your numbers short should something happen tomorrow."


I think we should return as a group to Oleg's, perhaps for just a meal, then turn around and head back toward the Stag Lord. If the Iron Lord and Old Dead Eye are willing, we'll be at strength long before we reach the Stag Lord's fortress. At Oleg's, we can turn over the prisoners, warn them we will be gone for an extended period, stock up on some rations and any miscellaneous equipment we might need. What do the rest of you think? Kal says all of this with a near fatal gash still across his chest, with the bleeding stopped at the moment thanks to Janku's tough treatments...

Running willy-nilly into a possible ambush, when we could be setting one ourselves, seems overly headstrong, even by *my* standards... And as the bandit has already mentioned that we were seen coming from Oleg's, I would prefer to ensure that Oleg and Svetlana do not suffer retaliation for our actions. Returning to the fort, dropping off these bodies and then setting ourselves up to deal with the arriving Stag Lord's minions on *our* terms makes more tactical sense than riding ourselves raw to engage him a few hours sooner.

And what sort of topsy-turvy upside-down world do we live in that I am attempting the voice of reason? Servayn thinks to himself.

"I don't understand the rush". Janku pipes in. "We should wait and take care of him on our terms, and in our time". "There are many other things to take care of in the meantime". "Yes, he might have time to gather more allies, but while he's busy worrying about us, he's not making bandit raids". "And besides maybe he's doing us a favor, gathering up all the riff-raff in one place".

"We need more information about this 'Staglord' before we act". "Rushing in could get us all killed".
