GM, are you waiting on us for anything? It's been over two weeks.

DM-Camris |

Is it possible to pick up our pace at all? Or can the GM please let us know in the Discussion when we can expect extended breaks? With sometimes two to three weeks between posts and radio silence in between, it's hard to keep track of the plot or who our characters are.
Picking up the pace is my dearest wish, especially during the weekdays. Or a time machine...

I, for one, loved it!
Clover just posted in another game we're in together, so she should be back with us soon! Hope you're doing okay, Clover!

Once again I'm very sorry it's taking me so long to get posts up. Both April and early May have been just overwhelming. My workload is up and we transitioned back to working in the office part time. Since I work for the state and all such changes happen at all state offices together, it was a big change with many, many meetings and emails involved. On top of that many federal rules changed at the start of May as Covid-19 policies and procedures are replaced with 2+ year old versions from before. That meant many more meetings and emails.
Meetings would sometimes run so long over their scheduled slots they would completely swallow the meetings scheduled behind them, which would then have to be rescheduled. With all this going on we also still had our regular work to get done somehow. I also had a pet die. It's been a lot.
I think I'm mostly in the clear now with work and things will be returning to normal again. I'll be catching up on gameplay over the next two or three days.
I hope I haven't been too much trouble to wait for.

The same thing happened to me about a month ago. Very happy for vaccine and booster; I don't want to imagine how much worse it could have been.
Rest and recover!

Clover Cynosure |

I'm very sorry for the long absence everyone. I was getting badly burned out by work especially, and life in general so I took the long holiday weekend to go to the beach and get away for a bit. That made coming back hard, and I just couldn't muster the energy to start back up with regular life. Took few days off for laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling, walking the dog a lot, eating a different kind of salad for every meal including breakfast, and spent one day doing nothing but laying on the couch and binging the entire 4th season of Stranger Things. In sum, avoiding everything.
I'm feeling better now so I'm in the process of getting caught up. Thank you for your patience.

Self care is always important.

Huzzah!
So I wanted to confirm that we are maintaining the same build rules that we started with (max hp, no background skills, etc.). I also wanted to check whether we are using the fractional base bonus rule or as-listed bonuses.
As-Is
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 1
BaB +1
Fort +2
Reflex +8
Will +3
Fractional
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 1
BaB +1
Fort +2
Reflex +7
Will +3
With Fractional, my Reflex begins to fall behind.
As-Is
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 2
BaB +2
Fort +2
Reflex +9
Will +4
Fractional
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 2
BaB +2
Fort +3
Reflex +7
Will +4
With fractional, my Fort moves ahead but my Reflex falls further behind.
As-Is
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 3
BaB +3
Fort +3
Reflex +9
Will +4
Fractional
Swashbuckler 1/Investigator 3
BaB +3
Fort +3
Reflex +8
Will +4
And so forth. Every level, the difference between As-Is and Fractional is a push-pull between Fort and Reflex, while BaB and Will stay essentially the same.
Assuming max HP, no background skills (though I would love those), and as-is bonuses, here is my level up.
Antiquarian Investigator 1
HP +10 (22)
Reflex +2 (8)
Will +2 (3)
New Skills (Disable Device +9, Knowledge (arcana, dungeoneering, engineering, history, nature, planes, religion) +7, Stealth +8, Use Magic Device +8
Relic Magic
Inspiration
Trapfinding
2 Level 1 Extracts Per Day
New Extracts (Heightened Awareness, Long Arm, Monkey Fish, Reduce Person, Tears to Wine)

Varys of Kaer Maga |

Yay background skills. More fun!

Clover Cynosure |

2nd Level: Oracle

+1 Will
HP +11
Orison: Light
Mystery Spell: Ray of Enfeeblement
Skills: +1 Acrobatics, Diplomacy, K Local, Perception, Stealth
Background Skills: +2 K History, +2 Profession (Hotelier)

Asher Vance |

I realized I had some skills and such incorrect for my first level. So I added +1 to Kn (rel), +1 to Intimidate, and +1 to Appraise as a background skill. I also had one Feat incorrect. Traded Snapping Turtle for Panther Claw.
+1 Fort
+1 Ref
+1 Bab
+11 hp (22 total)
+1 Appraise
+1 Escape artist
+1 Kn (hist)
+1 Kn (rel)
+1 Perception
+1 Ride
+1 Sense motive
+1 Stealth
+1 Swim
Gained Evasion
Gained Unbalancing Counter - At his 2nd level, Asher’s AoO render a struck creature flat-footed until the end of his next turn (Reflex DC 10 + 1/2 the monk’s level + Wisdom modifier negates).

Grobradon |

Okay. Switching to background skills is great but half my skills where there so it's really hard to keep track of what I'm shuffling around.
Even without going up a level that gave me points for +1 Magic Device
Then second level
hp +8
+1 BAB
+1 Will, +1 Reflex
Versatile performance, singing can be used to replace
Bluff or Sense motive checks
new spells Ghost Sound and Feather fall
Skills
+1 Intimidate
+1 Knowledge Arcana
+1 Knowledge Local
+1 Perception
+1 Spellcraft
+1 Survival
+1 Stealth
Backgrounds
+1 Perform Sing
+1 Perform Strings
+1 Appraise
+1 Artistry Musical composition
+1 Lingquistics (added dwarven)

Well now I'm wondering if there is a specific fourth-wall breaking reference in Llu Llw Gryff that I'm missing.

It's a bastardization of a Welsh hero written about in the Mabinogion, ancient British prose. This is where the original King Arthur comes from, IIRC. He was a warrior wizard...and being as Asher will eventually go Magus, this is him hinting at his dreams and his childhood, with a little wink at real-world mythology and the Kings of Gwynnod I would expect zero people to know about, lol.
He is a fun mythical figure. One of the stories was "Blodeuwedd tricks Lleu into revealing how he may be killed since he cannot be killed during the day or night, nor indoors or outdoors, neither riding nor walking, not clothed and not naked nor by any weapon lawfully made. He reveals to her that he can only be killed at dusk, wrapped in a net with one foot on a cauldron and one on a goat, and with a spear forged for a year during the hours when everyone is at mass. With this information, she arranges his death."
I bloody love that, lol.
These are some of the legends and stories I dip into from ancient Scandanavian, Gaelic, Lothian, Celtic and Gaulish mythologies when I'm looking for themes for characters in scripts I'm working on in some show or movie. Asher is no different, lol.

Pinging Clover.

Varys of Kaer Maga |

Bump.

Varys of Kaer Maga |

Well, it's been a month without any updates, the longest we have gone without movement in this game. Unless Camris shows up soon, I think we might need to declare this game dead.

Varys of Kaer Maga |

Same. I'm going to give this another week and then hide it from my campaigns.

You have to go find it in the forum and then click the circle with the dash through it. Our campaign is several pages back now.
Nice playing with you all, and I hope to see you around the boards.

polyfrequencies |

I see that you're back on the boards, Camris. I'm glad to see that you're okay.
I understand burnout, and real life always takes priority. But please: do everyone that you game with in the future a favor and communicate the need for a break. If you had said 2-3 months ago "hey I need to take a break," I think that we all would have understood. I know I would have been excited to see the campaign resume. More than half of my campaigns over the last couple of years have needed to take a brief (or not-so-brief) respite.
But just ghosting us hurts, and it was clear looking around at all of your other campaigns that had been active in July that we were all concerned and wondering what had happened to you. It also hurts to see that you had maintained some presence in other games as a player for the last three months without bothering to contact any of the rest of us. I don't want to pile on too hard, because I know that feeling bad when you're already feeling bad is counterproductive, but a brief note goes a long way.
Good luck to you.
