Tai Dan, The Masks seems much more disciplined than these soldiers. Is that normal in Tianjing?

![]() |

Take 10 on Perception: 10 + 16 = 26
Hmm, perhaps you are right Wadley.
Naevys heads over to ask about registering.
Naevys pulls the party and Mask leadership aside. Are the soldiers here always this apathetic? Seems they either have bad or no leadership. Or something is wrong.
She addresses the soldier discussing spellcaster registration. Can you help me sir? I'd like to speak with the ranking officer here. We are heading further on and I'd like to make sure we don't step on any toes and are equipped to deal with any hazards or threats.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

Tai Dan too is puzzled at the fort soldiers behavior.
"I do not understand myself. They are generally more boisterous then this. However that is not our mission as we are on a tight deadline" he explains.
As Naevys gets hold of one of the soldiers, he mutters something about how Over fifty soldiers, led by the fort’s second-in-command Lieutenant Kaneka Riko, effectively deserted, leaving the fort with someone calling himself the Shepherd to seek out a final solution for an alleged qlippoth threat.
Another far more grizzled Veteran steps in as he notices the group.
"Last week, one of the few remaining patrols discovered evidence of an unnatural blight—a creeping pale orange fire that doesn’t burn, but rather freezes and corrupts whatever it touches—spreading throughout Kaimuko Wood. Many within the fort believe that the blight serves as a precursor to a full qlippoth invasion. Though the fort’s commander has officially requested reinforcements, the Tianji government has not yet sent any response. So morale in this fort has taken a big hit..addtionally we are missing some of our finest warriors along with the Lieutenant. Perhaps you might want to speak more to the commander." he adds on the later as he hurries off to his own appointed tasks.

![]() |

Aaftaab nods.
“Lead us to your commander!“

![]() |
Unfortunately the description of the fire is not enough for you to attempt a knowledge roll for it. Your best guess is that it has some effects on the surroundings but not what or how it affects thers.
The PCs are brought towards the commander of the fort and you find a smartly dressed Assimar of Tian-Shu descent in the fort's uniform, her stern features are made stiff with a crease in her forehead as if her worries have stayed long with her
"Greetings Adventurers. What can I do for you?"
You noticed a haunted look in her eyes.

![]() |

That sounds dire indeed. We'll speak to the commander and if he has some more details maybe we can figure out what this blight is.

Krezbiznet didnt seem to notice anything about the commander, instead frowning. See? This is why I like earth over the other elements. A fire that freezes things? Sounds like someone doesn't understand how fire's supposed to work... Then he looks concerned Hey, I can make and throw rocks. It's not really magic... think I ought to report it? he asked Tai Dan, not sure if his kinesis counted as "magic" as he was certainly not a spellcaster.

![]() |
Tai Dan looks at the gnome.
"I admit not knowing much of your unique abilities. I shall leave it to your discretion."
The Assimar commander looks up to examine each of you.
"Salutations to you adventurers. I am Commander Gu Xiang. I appreciate your offer of help. It is timely indeed. With the at least half of our forces gutted from beneath us, morale has fallen very low indeed. If you're willing to lend aid in raising this fortress Morale, perhaps I can see to giving a reward as well."
"I can give you a list of those you might wish to help resolve their doubts or difficulties." the commander looks up at each of you, a slight glimmer of hope in her eyes.

![]() |

Aaftaab nods again.
"Yes, we can try to help to support morale but we can also actively seek out the evil that is spreading out there!"

![]() |
Commander Gu Xiang looks at each off you and nods.
"I can give you a list of names for you to check in with. Hopefully you can help them and in doing so help lessen the burden here too."
The sergeant is one of the few non aasimar humans in the fort.
Of Tian-Min descent, upon meeting the man, he explains.
"The fort’s soldiers practice with the longspear, longsword, short sword, and crossbow. Most of the drills focus on either defending the fort or engaging in combat in the Wood where the trees limit the usefulness of traditional military formations. With what the Deserters stole. I'm not sure if we have enough to equip our men."
Do a DC 20 Craft (armor, bows, or weapons) to help the sergeant ensure that the remaining soldiers remain properly equipped.
Or a DC 20 Perform check to inspire soldiers into action despite inferior gear.
Noro Yuto was the first of the fort’s scouts to discover and report on the growing blight.

Whip up a meal with the Cook with a Profession (cook) check or other related skill.

The Captain when leaving the Commander's office takes you aside.
"While we are sellswords, we are first and foremost soldiers." he pauses.
"Seeing a fort with its brave defenders moves my heart and I do believe that with your help the Twenty Four Masks can show these soldiers just what they were here for in the first place!"
Help the captain run the Twenty-Four masks through Combat drills.

The Pathfinders get to work.
Word spread as the cookhouse serves a delicious menu, the aroma of gathered spices and new alchemical food additives comes into play.
A starting small group of soldiers grows into a larger group that ends up encompassing the entire fort as Warriors are sought out for dangerous mission outside and they respond in vigor as they watched a blood pounding combat drill executed by the Twenty Four masks.
Arms and Armor are found to be in excellent condition and every man finds themselves equipped despite the rumours that the armory was near empty. The Quartermaster appears to have done the fort proud with the supplies shown.
Commander Gu Xiang summons all of you into her office with a smile on her face.
"Greetings Pathfinders, I'm unsure how you did it but your actions have invigorated the entire fort. Morale is higher then before and I have volunteers willing to go into the depths of the forest to investigate this blight. I have sent orders that the armory be opened for your use. Take what you need to aid you in your endeavors."
She waits to let the news sink in.
"A unit has being made ready to lend aid your mission and I would like to know if you intend to set out immediately or rest a day or more?"
Items that can be taken'
A masterwork cold iron katana, a masterwork cold iron short sword, an oil of bless weapon, an oil of daylight, two oils of magic weapon, a potion of cure serious wounds, and a +1 mirrored light steel shield
Tai Dan turns to the rest of you.
"I feel that we should move out immediately. This blight is something that I do not think we can leave it as it is for long."

![]() |

Felix takes the oil of daylight and portion of cure serious, and notes the presence of cold iron.
Weapons of cold iron, is there something in the woods we should be wary of?

![]() |
Commander Gu Xiang looks at the group.
"There are probably corpses in the the forest. The weapons of Cold Iron? They were always in the armory in case they were ever needed. The forest has being in a state of disquiet of late but we're not sure what exactly is in there."

Soon the stench of blood and something worse assaults your nostrils as you come across a beast, with blood red fur crowned with glowling crystals jutting out of its back. Its teeth drips with ichor and this is just the baby when you realized standing behind it with eyes glowing a strange neon purple is its mother. Larger then any other bear you have seen before.
You spot another just beyond them that seemed to have just finished feasting on the carcass of a rather large elk.

This bear mutated by the blight has evolved in a Mutant Dire Bear!!
It has an unusual burst of speed.
It also has thick armor. Thicker then the average bear.
Most bears you're certain don't have bulbous eyes. This one does...have very good eyesight.
Impressive Teeth and Claws. Perfect for ripping into prey or...pathfinders.
One paw is shorter then the other. Still as deadly as the other.
The bear roars and a shimmer envelops it briefly as it sights a possible prey with Drool slobbering from its massive jaws, it charges towards Naveys!
It's massive bulk giving it an increase burst in speed!
And that's it movement. Nyehhhh did it scare you?
Naveys watches it close in and has a very good view of 2 rows of teeth lining the massive jaws.
Yep. 2 rows of teeth.
