"What a wonderful idea. Using those poisonous pods as a weapon if we encounter the reaver. I could take a couple. I'm pretty good at throwing things."
"Ja. Like temper tantrums if she doesn't get her way sometimes."
Smörboll whispers to Varack.
Junia, overhearing Smörboll, elbows him in the ribs.
"Oof!"
Oblivious to his comment, Inga looks over at Smörboll with concern.
"Are you alright, Smörboll?”
He gives her a nod and a grunt as he rubs his side.

Ajax could tell Rallas was the spry sort, "After you collect the spores, perhaps you can find a quiet path through the hall?"
Rallas, I think you still need to make the check to successfully move a spore, even if there is no risk of getting poisoned. Maybe take 10 on the first?

"Let me transform Klaus into incorporeal form first and have him fly across the room. Then I can change him back into ectoplasmic form when he's on the other side."
Klaus floats over the rickety floor to the other side of the room.
"Woooooo. WooOOOooo!"
Klaus moans spookily as he floats across.
Full-round action to change manifestation forms. 40' fly in incorporeal form.
Rolling her eyes, Inga turns to her companions.
"Sorry. He gets very overdramatic in ghost form."
She then converts Klaus back to Ectoplasmic form.

I have an idea...tie a rope off here to something...I'll jump across and secure the rope over there...and use the rope to traverse the area...might work...
ok...out of the box time...can I rig a harness to use to traverse the rope? like a climber's harness...and slide it across...so you don't fall...have a climber's kit...might help...

I'm confused. Again. Where's the rickety floor? I thought it was in the small 20' x 20' room and Rallas was already across.

A2
You see a short hall containing a rickety floor. To the north of these hallways are sets of old staircases, collapsed from years of neglect and disuse.
Over the years the floorboards in the hallway have begun to rot and warp.
Now loose in many places, the rusting nails squeak loudly against the wood when stepped on in this room.
Strange fungus grows on the walls in large bulbs, and the air inside the hall smells of acrid mildew for Leinad who is the only one that does not have the bubble up.
A2 is where the action is happening right now.

I’m sorry Elby. :-(
Trap: Stepping onto the planks produces loud creaks and groans from the wood as it sags and warps. A PC who steps on a creaking board draws the red reaver to that PC’s location.
The first PC to trigger the trap is not attacked, as the noise alerts the reaver to their location, allowing it to arrive on the scene. The second PC who would trigger the trap is the one actually attacked.
Effect
The red reaver makes a grapple check against the target
(CMB +29). If the reaver’s grapple check succeeds, the target suffers the following effect.
Gruesome Mangling: The target takes 12d6+11 damage and one of its limbs is badly mangled (roll 1d4; on a 1 or 2 the target’s arm is mangled and on a 3 or 4 the target’s leg is mangled). The target is sickened and takes 1d6 points of bleed damage each round until they receive at least 5 points of magical healing.
The target suffers the penalties detailed in the Losing a Limb sidebar until she receives a regeneration or restoration spell. Targets who do not receive such a spell by the end of this adventure gain the Lost Limb boon on their Chronicle sheet.
-
Losing a Limb
A creature with only one arm cannot perform actions requiring two arms or two hands and suffers a 50% spell failure chance when casting any spell with a material component. A bipedal creature with one leg cannot walk or run; it can crawl or hop but is denied its Dexterity bonus against all opponents. A quadrupedal creature with one functional leg is reduced to half its normal speed.
cmb, 1-2 arm, 1=left, damage : 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (4) + 29 = 331d4 ⇒ 11d2 ⇒ 112d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 3, 5, 6, 5, 1, 5) + 11 = 62
You all see Elby stepping into the hall and using Rallas support rope.
Suddenly, from beneath Elby you see the Red Reaver’s strong arm ripping through one of the weak points in the floor!! The beast can grab the suprised Paladin’s arm … and with an unbelievable display of force and cruelty the Red Reaver rips off Elby’s left arm!!!
Blood is spraying everywhere and the Red Reaver is gone as fast as it appeared!!!
Elby’s body is in shock and she is bleeding with incredible intensity!!

Elby instinctively uses her magical healing to stop the bleeding.

I moved Klaus across that hallway of A2 (next to Leinad) and put Inga behind Rallas so that she can see Klaus to turn him back to ecto form. I also moved Elby to the middle of the hall in A2, where I assume she got mauled by the reaver.
Inga gasps in horror and Junia screams in terror when they see Elby's arm get torn off by the reaver.
"Nooo!!! Elby!!! Holy Hells!!!...

ahh...right you are...I was hoping....
What in the blazes...Elby! Rallas yells as he goes to render aid to the fallen warrior. He tries to pull her across.
if that doesn't work, I'll shimmy across the rope and bring her across...
| Klaus the Phantom |
Klaus helps Rallas pull Elby to safety. He grabs the dismembered arm, if possible.
"Inga, you have that wand of lesser restoration. Will it be of any use?"
Inga Blücher
|
Inga assesses Elby's horrific wound where the arm was torn off.
"Luckily you stopped the bleeding and healed it some. Unfortunately, a lesser restoration will not restore the arm. You'll need a full restoration spell."
Inga looks over at Rallas with a pleading look in her eyes.
Ajax Arrowhawk
|
Do the rest of us need to cross?
Inga Blücher
|
"You're a sweetheart, Rallas. Thank you so very much."
Klaus, hold the arm against Elby's shoulder. Press it tight."
Klaus nods and presses the torn limb against the wound, matching it up at the tear.
"You won't feel a thing, Elby. You're doing great. You'll be back to normal in just a moment."
(Restoration is a 4th level spell on the Spiritualist spell list. Inga can cast 4th level spells.)
Inga reads the spell from the scroll. Elby is bathed in a warm light of healing and the arm miraculously reattaches itself.
"That's one hell of a scar you'll be able to show off, Elby. How does it feel?"
Lorian the Peacemaker
|
Lorian watch as the paladin had her arm ripped off. It would have darn near killed him. "It was a good thing that the group had assess to strong magic to help save the limb. I am not sure if the critter is still there. We can try to join the others or they will have to cross back over and we start checking the place in the other direction. Suggestions?" he asked.
Rallas Linnderil
|
Don't worry about your combat ability...just relax...Rallas says as he looks for a way to get everyone across without getting bitten in half.
| GM Nowruz |
The restoration spell washes over Elbesamiya dy Bulaka.
Holy energy seems to make this spell much stronger than it actually is and from the bloody wound a completely new arm is starting to grow.
Elby feels pain but then after a moment the spell leaves her with a sense of true peace and harmony.
Within seconds she is as good as new.

From the distant you suddenly hear the Red Reaver howling and it seems as if it enjoyed the snack that it was able to grab.
Walking through area A2 is still dangerous!
Rallas Linnderil

Ok...now that we know that thing is down there...we can plan a little more carefully. Just go quickly using my truss rig. We'll pull you across to speed it up.
so just Lorian, Ajax and Klaus are on the other side?

| GM Nowruz |
Except of the same weak points in the floor that you saw earlier, Rallas does not see anything else that is dangerous.
Based on your roll Rallas you know that you need to be careful how much time you spend in this area. Everything in A2 to A3 is structurally weak and the Red Reaver can easily break through the floor!
| GM Nowruz |
A0. Empty room
Rallas opens the double doors and sees an empty room with dirt and fith everywhere on the ground.
The group cannot find anything magical in here either.
The important aspect of this room is that there is no structural weakness in the floor so that the Red Reaver would not be able to get them here!
There are two doors on both sides of the room.

Nothing notable about that round fountain looking thingy in the big triangular room?
"We should check the northern rooms so that we have that entire side of the bastion explored."
Inga suggests to the group.
"Klaus can float through the wall to see if there are any occupants. Actually, maybe we should listen at the door first."
Inga presses her ear against the door to listen for any sounds within, then takes a step back to allow others to check the door.

| GM Nowruz |
Klaus can confirm that both of the rooms behind the doors on the western side are empty and as dirty as the others!
The door to the west however reveals an interesting room.
A4. THE RELIQUARY
The room contains several small benches, some still upright and intact, arranged around a large reliquary at the far end of the room. The reliquary is an oak-and-brass stand containing a two-foot-tall marble statue of a soldier in armor, kneeling over a shallow bowl. The soldier’s face wears a pained expression, and they appear to weep over the bowl. The bowl, made from a black, lacquered wood, contains a clear liquid.
The reliquary is a place of healing that was once used by crusaders returning from battle against the forces of the Whispering Tyrant.
Here they would sit and pray, remembering the names of their fallen friends.
With the blessing of the reliquary’s attending cleric, a soldier would be granted a sip from the bowl.
~
A severely wounded orc rests in the room.
Ajax immediately sees that the orc wears the broken remnants of a wooden holy symbol of Sarenrae around his neck.
The orc looks at you with fear but also determination in his eyes.
The orc clearly survived an attack by the red reaver but is gravely injured, with his right arm and leg badly mangled by the reaver’s claws.

She then moves to the orc in as non-threatening a manner as possible. "Uxolo, sihlobo," she says softly, holding up her still-mismatched arms. "The reaver is here, but we have come to stop it. I was also gravely injured, but the skill of my friends, coupled with the power of this place, healed me. We can help you as well."
