Hello folks,
I'm very sorry for the long and unanticipated delay. I'm moving, and I've been saying goodbye to some loved ones in the city where I live now, so I've been sort of avoiding the computer as of late. It shouldn't happen too often.
Before we start posting in Gameplay, I'd like to go over a few things with one another here, in Discussion. I will make a Gameplay post soon, and folks who have checked in can visit there.
I'd like us to briefly touch on:
Where does my character live?
What's my character's job?
Do any of us know one another?
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
Why is my character in Havengul?
Isabela Calista De Romano |
Where does my character live?
She has a small townhouse she pays for in Havengul
Gavony Township, Havengul, The Island of Thraben
What's my character's job?
She is a consulting detective, for the city [on a stipend] and also for paying clients. Mostly missing persons [will always take a case of a missing child for free] She has even had work from The vampire Jeleva who wanted to get in contact with a particular Runebinder.
Do any of us know one another?
In her investigations, she has met at one time or another with each of the other players. Most of all Eliana Carlova who she has worked along and fight beside.
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
None, she feeds in private and not on the living.
Why is my character in Havengul?
She was asked to go there by her one-time lover Sorin Markov. Just why she does not know. But he did say they would meet again.
Li'Omrut |
Hi folks! Happy to be here.
Where does my character live?
Li’Omrut lives on an estate in the city that serves as his sensei’s school/monastery. His sensei has departed under mysterious circumstances, and currently the only other resident there is his sensei’s daughter.
What's my character's job?
Technically, it’s supposed to be helping to maintain the estate and run the school, but Li’Omrut is avoiding his feelings for his sensei’s daughter by hiring himself out as a bodyguard or hired muscle to the less-than-reputable merchants and government officials in the city.
Do any of us know one another?
I’m traveling right now (I’m home this weekend), so I haven’t made the time to go through all of the other aliases to see which relationships make sense now that I know we’ve all been accepted. I’m fine if anyone wants to initiate something, though.
However, it makes sense to me that each PC has at least heard of my PC, since he has an infamous reputation for stirring up trouble, usually defending or on behalf of whomever is hiring him. Many of his employers see extra clout in having hired a demon.
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
Heck yes.
In all seriousness, I want this PC to have a moral journey. As discussed in the recruitment thread, he has to be evil, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to learn to develop personal relationships with others, and he won’t want bad things to happen to them. And more selfishly, he already knows not to piss off the people whom he relies on or who are likely to want revenge.
Out of character, I don’t expect that there will be reason that any of this will have tactical impact or negative role play consequences. If anyone thinks I’m taking things too far, let me know and I’ll adjust.
Why is my character in Havengul?
This is where he was trained. He currently wants to leave, but his non-understood and unfulfilled feelings for his sensei’s daughter is keeping him around.
Eliana Carlova |
Didn't even realize this was still going on, I was so distracted with other stuff. Maybe PM people to see if they're still interested GM?
Where does my character live?
They originally had a home in Thraben, but it was destroyed during the battle against Emrakul. Now she stays in the Order of Saint Traft HQ in Havengul.
What's my character's job?
Eliana Carlova serves as a captain, Gryff Knight, and a Chaplain in the Order of Saint Traft. Not that she leads troops on the battlefield, she more or less just makes sure the people under her are alright while doing their duties.
Do any of us know one another?
She knows Isabela, having worked and fought alongside her on a couple of different occasions. Most everyone else, she knows by reputation alone.
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
Considering she's fully human and there's at least a demon and a vampire, I can see some problems arising in the future. Mostly depending on how moral the party is overall. She's good-aligned, and she'll act like it.
Why is my character in Havengul?
She's there as part of her job. Overseeing the local Order of Saint Traft, acting as heavy support when something arises the lower-ranking members can't handle. Offering a bit of healing on the side when needed.
Karthan Sternmason |
Where does my character live?
Technically Karthan is addressed at Sternmason Manor a mansion located about half a mile north of Havengul along the coast. However he hasn't returned there since the news of his sister going missing. With pretty much his entire family dead or missing the home is full of bad memories and so Karthan has opted to stay at his marital aunts Laughing Wolf tavern. The manor itself lies mostly abandoned save the groundskeeper and a skeleton crew of servants who keep the place form becoming a home for squatters or worse.
What's my character's job?
Mercenary. Though lately he's taken up the illustrious role of alcoholic and traumatized veteran.
Do any of us know one another?
Eliana most likely. Aerial cavalry is something that the Company distinctly lacked so getting deployed with them just seems logical.
Tiame is possible as well given how often the Company had to skirt or sometimes even enter Kellsig and employ local guides or mages, again that's up to Tiame how that played out.
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
Absolutely the monstrous characters. His family alone has put down any number of horrors. That hatred for those that prey on humans is ingrained into the blood at this point and tempered by tragedy and experience. It would take some very extraordinary circumstances for Karthan not to react violently to a vampire, werewolf or demon in his midst.
Why is my character in Havengul?
Rebuilding his company, attempting to resolve the issue of his family's shipping business and no one to run it in his absence, and searching for any clues as to what happened to the missing members of his family whenever he's sober enough to think coherently.
Tiame |
Where does my character live?
Tiame lives in Ulvenwald, in a relatively small hut a few hours (by foot, at least) from the eastern edge of the forest.
What's my character's job?
She took the place of the local healer after they disappeared. She is helping the locals to ward themselves against werewolf and vampire attacks, and deals with the consequences of said attacks, when they inevitably come.
Do any of us know one another?
Eliana, Karthan - this is possible, as Tiame did work with Cathars and mercenaries in the past. Specifically when they were stationing troops in Kessig to hunt down local threats.
Isabela - Probably by reputation? Tiame does not travel to cities often. She did take an apprentice in several years ago, and that would give her some time to travel, I suppose. She only travels to cities when necessary, so they probably did not meet in person.
Li’Omrut - I (as a player) don't know much about this character, so I am not sure. From what I see it is a monk that lived secularly for a while, but currently enjoys widespread fame among the locals. By reputation, I suppose.
Do I anticipate any interpersonal problems with any members of the party?
Tiame keeps a cold approach at first, but is good at heart. She thinks a person should be able to do what they want, as long as those actions do not strip others of their own freedoms and well-being. While that rule is maintained, she will play along nicely.
Why is my character in Havengul?
She is here to check up on one of her patients (and collect payment for treatment). She started growing flesh a few years back - mostly to replace limbs the locals might have lost during werefolf attacks. Word got out, and she got a special request - to grow and attach reproductive organs for one Valenc Sotos. She did that two weeks ago, and gave him and his wife a few days to "confirm that the treatment worked as intended". She came to Havengul to find out if her solution worked, mostly. There is a small payment involved as well, but that is not so important.
Li'Omrut |
Well, when I said "she doesn't mind", I really mean - actually didn't know about him until he was mentioned. Based on what she said, she was originally looking for an entirely different entity.
Yeah, this is all just a big misunderstanding! We'll all have a sensible chuckle about it come morning.

All I hope is that she's actually looking for your mentor, and isn't interested in taking your head.
Eliana Carlova |
It will be a short game for me if so.
Why my mentor? He's human.
He's also a certified bad-ass that managed to tame a demon through sheer force of will.
And GM, Eliana's guiding the Angel. Mostly so she can make sure that it doesn't go on a murderous cleansing.

Ok, then.
Move day is Wednesday for me, so I think it will be until Thursday that I can post the situation forward. In that time I could see:
A.) A post from Li'omrut about what he's up to in the evening.
B.) A post from Karthan if he's going to do anything other than go to bed on his own initiative.
C.) Some RP between Isabela and Taime.
Sorry to make you all wait.

I am somewhat confused by Isabela's claims about the person she was chasing. Did she try to use a psychic ability that I missed? Because my perspective is that it was a fairly normal criminal type human and that Isabela lacked the training to pursue in the sewers -- not that it was some sort of supernatural encounter.
I don't want you to be disappointed when you don't run into an epic demon, if you choose to continue pursuing that thread.
GM_Panic |
Well... I was was going to have it just stop, why or who she would never know or they would come make years later. A kind or reacaring NPC pogyman. The idea being its always the one that got away.
He/it can be a plane old madman just just stopped, going back to a normal like, or sailed way on his ship.
Got no problem with that, but I think she should never catch him/it
its would add to her to fail like this.
Isabela Calista De Romano |
I think she will now.
Sorry, Li'Omrut but innocent lives are at stake, and well your not hiding yourself. Let see what she does now.
I have a feeling she will take you to one side and slap your wrist for being a very naughty boy before sending you to bed with no supper.
TarkXT |
Karthan doesn't know that is kind of the point. I mean, I can't think of any reason for him to know Li'Omrut or disagree with an angel about putting down the people that brought a demon into town. If she attacked innocent people or did some particularly wild stuff it might be different and the other questions can be hashed out later.
But at the moment I'm stuck in a pretty awful situation where I have to either jump some pretty crazy mental hoops to see why Karthan would jump to the defense of a demon or stick to the character and just try to keep innocent people from getting harmed and potentially letting a PC die.
