About Eliana Carlova

Concept Lunar Gryff-Knight (White/Blue) (Combat/Support/Healer)
The Heron Moon was considered representative of Avacyn. Yet even after her death, it remains. Perhaps we were wrong...

Appearance:
Despite the time that has passed, she still carries the appearance of a soldier. At a glance, she would likely appear like any other gryff knight. Short black hair was hidden under a helmet, refined features speaking to someone of the upper crust, a well-made breastplate covering her chest. A tall, strong build, a soldier’s build. What makes her stand out is the limp she walks with, a sign of the acidic burns she took in the Battle of Thraben that never properly healed. As well as strange silvery scarring around her eyes, the pupils a milky white.

Her constant companion, Moonwing stands as a strong and proud Silverclaw Griffon. Completely covered in pale white feathers, a vest made of leather-backed chainmail covers his torso, helping protect him from blows while leaving his wings open. An intelligent glint in his eye leaves those who know not Griffon’s unnerved. He knows what’s going on, and is almost always looking out for his rider.

Personality:
Once upon a time, Eliana Carlova was the typical member of her order. Gallant, faithful, a soldier through and through. That’s not who she is now. The madness of Avacyn, the chaos that ensued, the sight that burned the sight from her eyes… It changed her. She’s quieter now. Less boisterous and prideful. More thoughtful, though no less ruthless in stamping out threats. No less dedicated to her duty to protect the people of Innistrad.

Backstory:

Eliana Carlova was born the second child of a simple merchant family in Thraben. She grew up tall and strong, like her father, as well as having her mother’s charms. In the safety of Thraben’s walls, she had a relatively normal childhood. Got a basic education from her parents, went to church with best friend Misana, grew up extremely religious due to living in the holiest city on the plane.

Eventually, as Misana joined the Church as a Springsage, Eliana joined the Cathars, and moved to the Elgaud Grounds in Havengul. Being from a higher class than the average peasant, it looked as if she would be placed among the cavalry. Fate, it seemed had different plans The Gryffbond Order observed the trainees and selected from them which ones were best suited for their cause. Eliana was one such individual and was offered a chance to join their ranks.

She accepted and was paired off with a young griffon, named Moonwing for the white feathers that covered him. As is tradition, the two were basically inseparable after that. They saw each other through many a fight. They fought against the undead hordes that besieged Thraben, endured the death of Lunarch Mikaeus, rejoiced at the return of Avacyn, and cried at her spiral into madness.

Moonwing soared over the horrifying battlefield that Thraben had turned into. His claws tore mutated horrors to shreds, and her mace rent open flesh and smashed open skulls as they fought. Her eyes turned to the beast that loomed over it all, the horrifying, awful beast. Its writhing mass, the horrible whispers that emanated from it… her eyes burned when she looked at it.

Her family died in that battle. She survived with Moonwing, but not without injury. Her leg, burnt with some horrific acid that magic could not fully heal. Her eyes, permanently damaged by the mere sight of the beast. It was as if she lived in a sea of fog, having to rely on Moonwing to see for her at long distances. Only one thing remained visible at a distance. Glowing bright in the sky each night, the Heron Moon looked down at her. Watched her.

Some say the moon was the source of all the plane’s silver. Some say the moon represented Avacyn. But Avacyn was gone, and yet, the Heron Moon remained.

Eliana now is one of the most experienced Gryffknights and Chaplains in the Order of Saint Traft. She does her duties well, using magic and martial might in equal portions to destroy evil alongside Moonwing. Her most recent mission, Havengul, where help was needed, and where she could find answers. She serves as captain to the local branch of the Order, alongside an old friend. Misana Ardun, Springsage.

Miscelaneous Information:

- Her relationship with Misana Ardun is an odd one. Best friends when they were young, they kept in touch and tried to remain friends as they became adults. The events that lead to Avacyn’s demise and the widespread destruction brought them closer together. Eliana’s obsession with learning more about the Heron Moon has put a strain on their friendship in recent months, as well as conflicting styles of leadership for their branch of the Order of Saint Traft.

- Her hope and fear are tied intrinsically together. With the death of Avacyn, humanity finds itself vulnerable from all sides. She hopes, beyond hope, the Heron Moon could be their salvation. A source of strength despite the dangers it brings. Yet it is also her greatest fear. She knows on some level, she is linked to the moon now. Her greatest fear is that whatever answers she finds will not be humanity’s salvation, but her damnation.

- She stays at the Order’s base in Havengul, not owning a residence after her family’s home was destroyed in the Battle of Thraben. An old chapel on the outskirts of the city, the local branch is not a populous one. Besides herself and Misana, only ten other cathars and priests occupy the chapel. They are all almost always busy, working hard healing townsfolk or going on hunts to protect the town.

- Her magic unnerves her fellow soldiers, as even she can't really identify the source. The increase in her strength that came with it leads some to believe her a werewolf, with only her actions and Moonwing's trust keeping the rumor at bay. Most of them keep her at arm's length if they can, except Misana. Who's just... concerned for her old friend.

Class Features:

Clouded Vision: Your eyes are obscured, making it difficult for you to see. You cannot see anything beyond 30 feet, but you can see as if you had darkvision. At 5th level, this distance increases to 60 feet. At 10th level, you gain blindsense out to a range of 30 feet. At 15th level, you gain blindsight out to a range of 15 feet.

Moonlight Bridge (Su): You summon a bridge of moonlight. The 10-foot-wide span touches the ground at a point adjacent to you. It can extend from this point in any direction for 10 feet per oracle level. The path persists until you have crossed over the bridge or for 24 hours, whichever is shorter. You may summon a moonlight bridge a number of times per day equal to your Charisma bonus. Should the bridge be attacked, treat it as a wall of force.

Primal Companion (Ex): You gain the service of a faithful animal of the night. You can select from a bear, boar, crocodile, shark, tiger, or wolf. This animal functions as a druid’s animal companion, using your oracle level as your effective druid level.

Prophetic Armor (Ex): You are so in tune with your primal nature that your instincts often act to save you from danger that your civilized mind isn’t even aware of. You may use your Charisma modifier (instead of your Dexterity modifier) as part of your Armor Class and all Reflex saving throws. Your armor’s maximum Dexterity bonus applies to your Charisma, instead.
