Orenjii warns the group about what not to do should any of them reach the gong while Dimlock considers possible strategies.
As they discuss their situation, Orenjii recalls that wounds inflicted on this kind of kuwa oni will heal themselves unless acid or fire is used to halt the regeneration. Also, they have several spell like abilities including the ability to drop everything into magical darkness. As they relay this to Dimlock, he remembers that they are also very capable melee fighters able to take on multiple foes at once (Cleave, Combat Reflexes, and a high CMD.)
Dimlock’s memory is proven when Javid tries to tumble past the Judge, who simply swats the impetuous ifrit.

"Right." Dimlock remarks as Jarvid takes a literal tumble.

![]() |

Kurik’s steely resolve results in a spray of blood as he nearly takes the Judge’s arm off. Sulmoro takes quick advantage of the wounded oni’s state. The nagaji’s nodachi bites deeply, cleanly severing the same arm. The Judge falls to the ground, and the massive spiked club rolls free of the clawed fingers of the severed arm.
Judge Heng lies on the floor, unconscious and immobile. Blood trickles out for a second, but then stops unnaturally quickly and his wounds begin to heal. His eyelids flutter open, and he groans as one would expect from a being on death’s door.
”You have defeated me. I concede,” he says in that too-high screechy voice.
”Give me a moment to recover, and I will reveal the path to your next challenge,” he says as he looks grimly at his arm lying on the floor.
COMBAT OVER!
Within a few moments, more of the celestial oni’s wounds have healed. He stands and bows to Kurik and Sulmoro in turn, before waving his hand toward the alcove just behind the paladin. The whirling blades disappear, and you see a long narrow tunnel leading deeper into the mausoleum.
Standby for another post in just a couple minutes.

Let’s keep this moving. We have about a week left, and there’s still more combats (yes, plural). I’ll be offline flying for a day. Please feel free to post what you did in Judge Heng’s room before heading down the corridor.
@Javid, please make a stabilization check, DC 12 CON. Or someone could cast stabilize or heal him. I’d allow guidance to give him a bonus to his check also. Surely someone has a Happy Stick Wand of CLW, if nothing else.
FWIW, you reduced the Judge to -4 hp, but he has Regeneration 5, so he got back to 1 hp on his turn, and his Morale directs a surrender at less than 8 hp. Perfectly done!

At the end of the long corridor, you find yourselves in a huge inner chamber separated from other identical passages leading into the outer ring corridor.
Rows of smooth granite pillars line the perimeter of a huge rotunda. Between the pillars, intricate patterns of inlaid stone form cryptic arcane symbols. Toward the rear of the chamber rises a stepped dais, its broad base inlaid with similar fonts. Atop the dais meditates a slight-built man garbed in flowing yellow robes. Barefooted, he sits with his legs folded as his calm, unblinking gaze stares serenely into space. Below him, surrounding the dais and filling the remainder of the room are gouts of fire, rolling boulders, howling blasts of wind, and rolling torrents of water that churn like a savage and chaotic elemental sea.
As the team fans out into the chaos of the chamber, Orenjii finds themselves standing in the gap between the outer hallway and the inner chamber. Other teams of contestants are arriving into that outer hallway also, each from a different long corridor. Suddenly, two of the gouts of fire coalesce into small beings of flame and notice you!

Kurik’s greatsword passes cleanly through the elemental, the upper portion dissipating into rising smoke, and the bottom half of the elemental turning to slag and cooling in a puddle on the floor. That’s three bisected enemies for the big man!
Just as that one disappears, another elemental rears its head. This one is larger than the other (medium size), made of water and hisses at you angrily in an unknown language. Javid moves to engage and both of his flurries strike true. However it’s clearly much tougher to kill as it remains standing even after both strikes.
Meanwhile, more teams and more elementals take to the battlefield. Of the many battles going on, two of note include a group of senior Pathfinder agents engaged with three huge air elementals simultaneously while the team of water-folk from the bar fight take on three large ones made of rock and stones. Chaos abounds and the noise echoes throughout the chamber, yet the barefooted man in yellow robes sits unmoving.

**HOUSE GM ANNOUNCEMENT**
Fighting furiously, your fellow contestants have opened a hole in the ranks of the elementals surrounding Sifu Xho Nuo!
A lone Pathfinder suddenly breaks through the gaping wall of elementals and runs towards the Emissary’s platform, leading the charge. It's Sulmoro of the Sovereign Court faction! Cheers erupt from fellow Pathfinders as they rally to keep the gap open whilst the brave and desperate lone figure races forward!
Sulmoro reaches to touch the platform, but as he does, the Emissary bursts into a maddening laugh, and with a wave of his hand, the platform erupts into a shower of smoke, sparks, and cherry blossoms. Before your eyes, three monks dressed in the robes of their sifu appear, standing in a circular formation atop the platform. With a calm grace, each one assumes a combat stance. Behind the wall of qinggong disciples, the Sifu again calmly seats himself. He closes his eyes, folds his legs, and sits in the lotus position, awaiting the victors.

There’s a brief lull in the fighting as the number of elementals rapidly dwindles. Senior teams take out two or three at a time, and even the Aspis team finishes off their last foe. Their sorceress gives a wave and a smile to Kurik as a burly Tien man dispatches their last opponent.

There is no mechanical effect spelled out for the steps, so assume they’re just small rises and not difficult terrain.
You only fight one of them at a time. Red and Green will each wait their turns, and will be (hand-wave) unaffected by any combat directed at them before it’s their turn. [s]Don’t get stupid and try otherwise, thereby wasting your actions. (We all know who I’m lookin’ at here, right?) [/b] (Why did I bother?) The yellow-robed sifu is NOT a legal target.
