Greetings! I am opening recruitment for the Fists of the Ruby Phoenix AP. I will be looking for 4 players who are willing to commit to playing through the whole AP and who are able to post at least once per day. I like to keep up a steady pace with my games.
Character submissions should follow the standard guidelines for PF 2 in the Core Rulebook and those outlined in the Fists of the Ruby Phoenix Player's Guide. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Recruitment will be open until Monday, July 19th at 12:00 AM EDT. You don't need your full character sheet done by then, but a detailed backstory and character description will be required. I will be making my selections shortly thereafter.
Good luck! I am looking forward to reading your submissions.

Dorian 'Grey' |

I was just reading about this AP yesterday!
I absolutely enjoyed the PF1 module.
There are a lot of options to pour through; so I better get started!
Thank you for running!
EDIT: Starting at 11th! Sweet! I currently have two 13th level characters for AoA and EC; so, I am experienced in PF2e; if that helps.
This should be fun!

SOLDIER-1st |

Esh, an ancient elf barbarian MC oracle
From a meta perspective, I built him to be reminiscent of the old Rage Prophet prestige class. His most common tactic is to use the synergy between the dragon instincts ability to deal fire damage during rage with the incendiary aura focus spell from the flame mystery to deal lots of damage pretty consistently. His has three spells atm (and will eventually get all the MC spellcasting feats), Protection for a little extra defense, See Invisibility for when that will surely come up, and Searing Light for some thematic offense. Skills-wise, his main skill is Athletics (I'll probably be taking most if not all the skill feats from that line), and he can act as a backup face if necessary (I'm torn between getting trained in all three social skills or just investing in one). I'm also open to playing as a medic if desired, swapping for the heal spell and proficiency in medicine, depending on party composition, and am always open to advice. I'll be going with the Undercover Contestant background.
If you want a more detailed background, or an example of a past adventure I'm definitely able to produce such a thing. I have a character sheet mostly done, but have a question. The Player's Guide gives two ways of getting equipment, which would you prefer us to do?

Dorian 'Grey' |

I was wondering that myself. Thank you!
I may be back-pedaling on the Druid Dedication. I am thinking Martial Artist Dedication (along with Medic Dedication) is the route he is going....
I thought that Wildshaping would be sweet (and for utility it is), but he does lose a bit of punch pun intended when Wildshaped, since those attacks do not count in Brawling group.
This is fun!

This is Dorian Grey's work in progress.
Question: I am attempting to fit some pieces together, that I think will be cool for Lazarus.
Handwraps of Mighty Blows (+2 Greater Striking, shifting, Cunning) (12th/2365gp)
For ease of search.
Problem? Handwraps are normally bludgeoning.
Cunning needs to be Slashing or Piercing. And, I need to stay in Brawling group.
Question: Will using Shifting rune make it work; if he changes wraps to spiked gauntlet (Piercing)?
I really want this to work, because it totally fits his Backstory of formally being a Wizard...lol. It gives him Knowledges.
Thank you!

![]() |

Really? That is so awesome! Thank you!
I think the flavor is perfect.
Just rounding out purchases; although, I am wavering on Power Attack.
Grievous Blow is so awesome; but, I will need to give up Doctor Visitation...for now.
Decisions, decisions!
EDIT: Going with Ghost Touch and Cunning then!

ClearSpring |

I've created a profile for my swashbuckler, Chou Xin. She's primarily a ranged fighter built to do one really hard hit per round, while using her other actions to reposition, taunt the enemy, increase her defense, boost an ally's attack...she's got options.
Full disclosure: this is my first mid-high level 2e character. While I think she's built correctly I make no promises.

OK, Chkirri is just about set; I still need to buy gear and pick spells, but those could depend a bit on other party members (and there could be a couple other changes; I didn't build him as a healer, but he could be more useful in that regard if we need).
He's a bard, so, yeah, going to be a buffer for his companions. He's Dex-based, but could work as a melee or ranged combatant depending on what's needed. His spell selection will be based in part on that.
“Wanna bet?”[/b] It’s a child’s taunt, but for Chkirri, it has largely defined his life. Born on the outskirts of Goku, in a little village known for nothing at all, Chkirri was a bold fledgling, always up for his clutchmates’ challenges. Scale the highest peak? Yes, Chkirri was up for it. See who can run down the fastest? Yes, Chkirri was sure he could win that, even if it risked breaking his neck. Enter the Ruby Phoenix Tournament? Of course Chkirri would win that.
And so he went to Goka … and promptly lost, not even coming close to actually making it into the 4711 tournament. But in the process, he discovered the big city. And, more importantly, the widespread culture of gambling! It didn’t even require a bet for Chkirri to put his little home village behind him and decide he’d found his new home. Of course, it wasn’t easy. Chkirri wasn’t always wide – in fact, frequently he was the opposite – when it came to his bets, and he frequently found himself destitute, only able to tag along with his friends as they moved from low-stakes games of Tiam Jeuk to the far richer drake-racing enjoyed by the city’s high society. Still, unlike many of those he associated with, he was at least able to get into those games thanks to his charm and better-off friends. He would come back home afterward and regale them with tales of the races, earning his own bit of fame. In time, tales of Chkirri’s retellings spread, and he was being sought to chronicle – often in real time – all sorts of challenges. His pickets were soon lined with gold, faster than even he could lose it.
Still, at times, his chronicles left him in trouble, as with his recent description of a fluke flying mishap in a drake race by a hopeful in the new, upcoming Ruby Phoenix Tournament. When word got back to the flyer, he challenged Chkirri, betting him that he couldn’t do any better. Words were exchanged and all too soon Chkirri found himself vowing to again enter the tournament, his pride and fortune – not to mention his very life – on the line in the high-stakes game.
If you want, he could instead be coerced into it via debts with the the Golden League with pretty minimal modifications; whatever works best for the story.
Chkirri is modeled a bit off any number of play-by-play announcers in wrestling/other sports. He's effectively a commentator, who has been baited into proving he can match his actions with his words. He's a bit of a hasty, impetuous sort, who's never going to back down from a challenge, but does have some skills -- thanks to having to get out of any number of scrapes he's found himself in, and simply by watching others -- to possible do just that.
As for me, I play Katria in your War for the Crown game. I'm a longtime, reliable poster who typically can post once/twice a day and posts ahead of time when I'm likely to be away from keyboard. I do my best to push for other players/the GM, and make things as easy as possible for the GM. I also do some freelance writing for Paizo, so I'm pretty familiar with 2e, though this will be my first bard, and highest-level character in the system.

Maito Matsu |

There is a link to Maito's character sheet in the profile.
There was one thing in particular that she needed to see change. One thing that could not at any cost mirror a decade ago. She could smell the blood and sweat in the air. She could hear the screams of her teammates as they were cut down almost drowned out by the cheers of the crowds.
How young she had been! Barely grown and just discovering her arcane talent, she joined the first team that would have her and trained within an inch of her life. The euphoria of her blood magic was enough to convince her that she was somehow different from every other jumped-up spell-slinger to enter an area.
She needed to go back! This was her chance to redeem herself for her failure. The team she joined this year would survive. This time they would win!

Vermilion Vixen |

I’m thinking of throwing my hat in the ring with a sprite fire talon monk. That is… if this is meant to be a team tourney where we fight NPCs and we’re the good guys. If this is PvP, never mind!!!
Hotcha Twinkletoes
Hotcha sat on the shoulders of many a martial arts master. She learned that the big people’s worst enemy is gravity. At 5 inches tall, weighing 1 ounce, gravity is a wimp. Maybe with the right training, big people will be wimps too compared to the likes of Hotcha!
I’m debating about giving her energize wings, or Firefly for tiny hadoukens. At Lv.11, could do both. But definitely Fire Talon. The weak damage with fire seems appropriate for a tiny person.

Hotcha Twinkletoes |

From Vermilion Vixen’s player:
Okay then! One tiny teammate coming right up!
EDIT - Here’s what I came up with about a half hour after posting this:
Stats: commitment to STR 8 because she’s a few inches tall.
B: Attention Addict CHA, DEX
C: Monk DEX
Lv.^ DEX, CON, INT, CHA
Lv.10 — 8/20/18/18/10/18
Lv.15 — 8/21/19/18/12/19
Lv.20 — 8/22/20/18/14/20
Feats:
• Commitment to fire, including a Sprite Feat that gives me a tiny hadouken.
• Considering names of Monk feats, such as FLYING kick and ONE INCH punch.
• Commitment to permanent flight at Lv.17.
Lv.1 Evanscent Wings
Lv.5 Sprite’s Spark (Firefly)
Lv.9 Energize Wings
Monk Feats
Lv.1 Rain of Embers Stance
Lv.2 Dancing Leaf
Lv.4 Flying Kick
Lv.6 Blazing Talon Surge
Lv.8 One Inch Punch
Lv.10 Brawling Focus
Still gotta work on General & Skill Feats and Skills.

Wu Xin |

This is Tarondor's submission. All the details are in Wu Xin's link.
He is a Rogue with the Fighter and Marshal archetypes, so he's good at a lot of things, especially buffing his allies.
In 4710, he led a Lingshen army to a rather ignominious defeat against the army of Shokuro, led by the samurai Shokuro Toriaka. Rather than suffer the humiliation of returning to court, Wu Xin hatched a plan to recover his lord's favor - he would win the Ruby Phoenix Tournament and bring Lingshen a mighty prize. He assembled a team and entered the tournament. They won the first few rounds but were soon outclassed by serious contenders such as the general had not imagined. He only learned of his team's final defeat after waking up from the devastating blow of a nagaji warclub.
For ten years Wu Xin has dedicated himself to perfecting his combat skills. He has led several teams of adventurers and become a minor hero to the people of Xa Hoi and Minata. But always his goal has been to return to the Ruby Phoenix tournament a far better warrior and leader. This time will be different and at long last, General Wu Xin can return to Lingshen in honor.

Hotcha Twinkletoes |

@Brainiac, will this do for now? Still gotta commit to deity and 3200g of stuff. If monks aren’t stuck with lawful, Hotcha is Chaotic Good.
Oh, and I need approval on Wronged Monk’s Wrath. The only ki powers I like are Ki Form and the campaign monk feats.
Height: 5 in.
Weight: 1 oz.
Hair: Red
Eyes: Green
Complexion: Heroic
Yes, Hotcha dreams of being a hero. And what better place to prove her awesomeness than the Fist of the Ruby Phoenix Tournament!
With a silver tongue and a heart of gold, this fairy fighter will get the attention she craves. The question is, will her antics endear audiences or annoy opponents big enough to step on her? And really, even endearing the audience can be dangerous, if they start throwing roses, which are bigger than her and have thorns.
But Hotcha says “bring it!” She ain’t afraid of no flowers. Danger’s her middle name. Hotcha Danger Twinkletoes! Well, her real middle name is Pomegranate, but that’s a dangerous fruit. It’s like being a human whose middle name is Durian. Try having one of those thrown at you, tough guy.
Yeah, so anyway, tourney starts in a couple days. No dream team’s complete without Hotcha P. Twinkletoes. Hey! Can you hear me up there?

Storm Adder |

Here is Matt Morris's submission!
Storm Adder (CN male suli gnoll) was a pit fighter in Katapesh, where his uncanny abilities and elemental blood gave him an edge over the other competitors. He had always patched up his own wounds, and those of the other pit fighters--the better to put on a glorious show for the spectators. When he became successful enough to finance the trip, he set of for Goka to participate in the world's most famous contest.
While he might seem a bit intimidating, Storm Adder cares little about anything other than the glory of battle in the great contest, so he finds it easy to get accept others quirks. He's happy to work as part of a team if it ultimate victory in the tournament!
Melee-focused tempest oracle that can heal and is aces at medicine. Will keep the team in top shape as they achieve True, Ultimate, Power!

Miyuki Ubukata |

Here is bpa144's submission. Only thing that isn't done is equipment. Please let me know if the link to the character sheet works.
Hearing the prizes of the Ruby Tournament being rare magical items, she figured that if she won, she could sell the item and live off the winnings. Being young, she figured it would be a simple matter of doing some training and winning the tournament. At the age of 15, she went to a temple of Irori to become a monk and get training. There she discovered that it was actually rigorous work to get in shape and be well trained, but also that she was really good at martial arts. She could easily beat those who had been there as long as she had, and even some of the older monks. Eventually she evened learned how to use a fighting fan, because she believed them to be more elegant and help keep her hands from getting damaged. During this time she realized she enjoyed fighting, and more importantly winning.
Eventually Miyuki left the temple. While she learned a great bit about improving her body and mind, she found the spiritual teachings to clash with her own beliefs. She went on to train on her own, entering other fighting tournaments for the challenge, the money and the fame. She still plans to win the Ruby tournament, but her reasoning has changed some what. She no longer just wants to live a life a luxury, but also wants the fame that comes with winning.
When planning to fight, Miyuku prefers wearing Hakamas, though she specifically gets them designed to be colorful, typically with floral patterns with many different colored flowers. When not fighting, Miyuku wears long flowing Kimonos, all also colorful and also typically with floral patterns.

Hotcha Twinkletoes |

Fixed equipment to match what 3200g can buy, so I’m good to go, if picked. And I drew Hotcha again, this time stepping in the ring with Andore (from Final Fight).
