This thread is for out-of-character discussions for a table of Snakes in the Grass being run for PaizoCon. Sign-ups must be done through the table's Warhorn page.
Start Date & End Date: This play-by-post game will begin on May 28th and must end no later than 11:59pm (PDT GMT -07) on July 11th per PaizoCon rules.
Game Expectations:
Due to the strict deadline for concluding the game, I request that players post a minimum of once per day on weekdays and at least once on weekends. I will do my best to do the same so to ensure that the game is timely completed. That begins said, I realize (and expect) that real life can get in the way of fun at times and that not all players will be able to meet that pace. I expect folks to occasionally be unavailable for a period of time. If I know that I will be unavailable for some reason for more than 24 hours (or 48 over a weekend), I will post such. I request and expect all players to do the same. For instance, I anticipate having limited (possibly, no) availability for posting on June 5 & 6 as well as June 11-20.
I reserve the right to bot players who do not post anything within a 24 hour period (48 hours over a weekend) and ask that each player provide botting instructions or authorize another player to bot their PC's actions prior to the start of the game.
Also, for preparation of chronicles, those who have a seat at the table per Warhorn, please go ahead post the information below:
PFS:
1) Character name:
2) PFS#-Character#:
3) Character Class & Level:
4) Faction:
4) Day Job with roll (Please note any special boons/notes):
Then, please "Dot and Delete" in the Gameplay thread.
Please note that, on these forums, I often run games under the alias of "GM Valen" and will be doing so on this run.
Welcome to PaizoCon, whether this your first time in a Play-by-Post game or you are a veteran to these forums! I will do my best to answer any questions you may have and I look forward to sharing a table with you!

I'm also going to be bringing a pregen, probably Jirelle (swashbuckler). I suppose Level 3 or 5 would depend on the level of the other characters.
1) Jirelle
2) 213261-2002 (level 1)
3) Swashbuckler
4) Faction: Vigilant Seal
5) I'm not sure how this works for pregens, roll for the character receiving credit?

I've signed up to play this game, but I will likely use a pregen. I don't have a free character in tier, but I couldn't resist an author-run game!
Can I decide later on which pregen to use and which character to apply the credit to?
You may choose a pregen when we muster, but you must decide at that time which PC you will apply credit to.
I'm also going to be bringing a pregen, probably Jirelle (swashbuckler). I suppose Level 3 or 5 would depend on the level of the other characters.
5) I'm not sure how this works for pregens, roll for the character receiving credit?
I believe you roll the pregens' modifier, then apply the credits to the receiving PC. Remind me to double check sometime after we begin and before I issue chronicles.
Jirelle Drenchport |
I gave Jirelle a second name to distinguish her from the other Jirelles. She grew up on the streets of Drenchport with just her mother's cloak to her name, so Drenchport made sense!

3) Character Class & Level: Investigator 5 (Champion 5)

5) Day Job with roll (Please note any special boons/notes):
Absalom Lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 vs DC 18
0.5 gp/day = 4 gp
If the rules allow the character receiving the credit to do downtime, I would prefer that Aktuh crafts, as he's in the middle of a project and also he gets 12 days downtime.
Crafting: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29 vs DC 19
Begin 27.5/55 gp, 2 gp/day, end 37.5/55 gp.

Looks like the gang is all here!
With all the seats filled, I've been asked to make a post on my tables with a d20 roll for each player and for myself. Rolls of natural 1-or-20 are winners of Paizo gift vouchers! I must collect the name & email address of any winners.
In order names appear on the sign-up on the Sign-up Sheet:
Lysle: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Andrew H: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Pirate Rob: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Randal Meyer: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Allen P: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Tom G: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Watery Soup: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Remember, we are all winners (just not of a gift certificate).

GMs get "glyphs" when they've GMed a certain number of games. It's 10 games for the first glyph, and either 30-40 for the second glyph, etc.
If the GM plays, the GM can hand out extra Hero Points at the beginning of the game, one per glyph they have.
Seelah Soup |
Were the numbers different for PFS1? I immediately noticed the triangularity of those numbers and would feel like a chump if I didn't notice that before.

Learning spells doesn't require the person you're learning from have a spellbook, you can learn from druids, clerics, bards, whomever as long as the spells are on the list you can learn.
Also, largely irrelevant since the beginning of season 2 Blog
Any prepared spellcaster can use the Learn a Spell activity to learn any common spells they have access to from tutors at the Grand Lodge. This adds no additional material cost beyond the standard cost for the Learn a Spell activity.

Sorry about the delay, but my efforts to get out an update have been thwarted by a number of unanticipated demands (as well as a few anticipated that I failed to adequately account for). It looks like it will be late Sunday, or more likely, sometime Monday before I will get an update up.

NibNok is a Sorcerer / Bard with 18 Cha (arcane + occult = bad) but has a Trained Diplomacy of +11, and the Red Flags Espionage boon/reward (never been used):
[ ] Red Flag Espionage (Limited-Use): You have experience with delicate social situations where a false move could antagonize a possible ally or accidentally endanger a comrade. When using Diplomacy to Make an Impression or Request, you critically fail the check if you fail the check DC by 12 or more (rather than failing by 10 or more). Check the box that precedes this boon to use the following reaction.
[reaction] Trigger: You critically fail a Diplomacy check; Effect: You reroll the triggering check and must use the second result.

Very nice!

I'm feeling off my limerick game, but that one'll have to do for now. Nice check at least, hoping for some better rhymes later this scenario.

I am a big fan of rhymes (And puns! Oh, and alliteration too!), so keep them coming!

PLEASE NOTE:
I have been reminded that this table has a HARD STOP date of July 11th. I believe the scenario can be completed in that time (even with my limited posting next week) and acknowledge that my schedule has been a major contributor to the slower pace of this table to date (did I mention my limited posting next week?).
As such, I will be doing my best efforts to keep this table moving. This includes potentially botting any PCs that have not posted within 24 hours of a post requesting a response or action. Please, be sure to post botting instructions in your profile and/or designate another player who may bot your PC on your behalf. In the absence of such, I will bot PCs as I see fit, but will not use any of the PCs' consumables or spell slots.

aarrrrrrrgggg. I had a fun/cool thing to post to be the party's speaker ... and i just realized it was never posted!!!!!!
Arrrgh! I say go ahead! We can have two! You or Middens (because might need some of that sweet sweet Society). It make sense Boom boom would be it with Apsis lore though, too!
Anyone but Meris XD

NibNok has something to say along the lines of:
The Pathfinders pride themselves on versatility; being able to negotiate to make peaceful resolutions when an option as well as fighting when we must (haven't they helped with some major plots like Tar Baphon????) ... but we are not primarily a fighting force. And since Oprak is clearly able to take care of itself through strength, they would be much more suited to a partnership with the Society as we won't try to step on their military toes ... at this point he would stare down the Aspis speaker ...

Very good points in favor of the Society. You may yet get a chance to have them raised before Eloqi.
NibNok has Natural Medicine, which allows him to use Nature (he is Expert) to Treat Wounds. Any chance that would apply to the Medicine check for this spilled drink?
Yes, that sounds logical to me, though the Doktor already has uncovered the spoiler.
Pretty sure I burned my only hero point already ... so that 1 is really going to hurt. :(
According to the Slides, you still have two Hero Points. I leave it to the players to keep track of personal resources (like consumables, Hero Points, spells, etc.). However, I believe everyone started with two Hero Points, so even if you used 1, you still have one left if you wish to use it.
Randal T Meyer |
Ok. Sorry I wasn't tracking them myself.
I did use one early on, leaving me with one still. I cannot edit my last post in the other thread so I am going to just suck it up and deal with that failure in that context. I may need this Hero Point for dealing with Eloqi directly or perhaps another battle that our bad rolls are about to start ...

1) Character name: Aktuh (playing Seelah)
2) PFS#-Character#: 2358909-2006
I've misunderstood the rules and I will be unable to apply this credit to Aktuh (he's playing in another game). Instead, I'll apply the credit to:
1) Character name: Potipher Perkins
2) PFS#-Character#: 2358909-2007
3) Character Class & Level: Will be Witch 3 when the credit is applied.
4) Faction: Grand Archive
5) Day Job with roll (Please note any special boons/notes): Please leave blank, she will be Crafting and as it will be a while before she applies the credit, I don't know what she'll be Crafting.

GM, approximately how far are we in the scenario, or, specifically, when do you think we'll be ending the game?
I'll be on vacation the week of the 11th. I'll have Internet, but I've had problems with reload-happy sites like Discord and Google Slides in the past. If we're likely to go well past the 11th, I'll leave more detailed botting instructions; if it's just a day or two, I'll leave simple instructions. In any case, I'll try to keep up with 1 post/day, but may have to ask people to move my icon on a map.

The game must end no later than 11:59pm (PDT GMT -07) on July 11th. I suspect we will end a day or two before that, but I cannot be certain. No need for botting instructions.
Randal T Meyer wrote:GM: I think you misread Merisiel's actions. Move out of sight of Kobold, meaning away from, not towards to strike it. The "if alive strike it" i think was for the ant, not the kobold.Correct, that was my intention
Sorry, and thanks for pointing that out. I had limited time and had hoped to shoot off a quick post to keep things moving, but I misread it in my haste. To "fix" it, I will ignore my prior post, allow Mersi to post her actions this round, and simply have the kobold delay.
