While Mary and Kyra heal, Ezren investigates the Mermaid's mechanisms. May have been kobolds, but looks old and worn out. Maybe it's been here a long time, or maybe kobolds are just terrible at crafting.
Mary gathers the group by the door and slowly opens it. The door silently swings ajar and the smell of rotten fish and mold wafts out. On the west side of the vast room is a large table with benches on either side. Old food scraps, dirty knives, and broken plates cover the table. Off to the east side, burrows have been dug into the wall to make small sleeping chambers filled with straw mats. This must be the kobolds' warren!
And in front of her, six kobolds hiss. "Invaders!" one of them yells. "Kill the elf!" another screams.
They must've heard the Mermaid encounter! They all spring to attack. The red kobold screams at the top of its lungs. He rushes in to Mary and stabs her with his spear.

The rogue swiftly dodges out of the way. The pink kobold reacts next. Standing next to the chest, she opens it, draws a jar, and tosses it at Mary.
jar vs Mary:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
The jar smashes on Mary's shoulder. Mary is immediately covered in a thick oily substance. The ground is coated as well!
For the rest of combat, Mary must make a DC 10 Acrobatics check each time she strides or fall prone. She can Step without needing to do the check. Anyone walking over the oil (the orange square) must also do a DC 10 Acrobatics check. If you do, you stop moving and fall prone.

From his position, Ezren targets the lead kobold and the white scaled one behind him. He points his staff and electricity shoots out. "Mary, step back if you can! We can bottle them up here!"

Valeros moves in to the room, easily jumping over the slippery patch of oil. He slashes at the kobold across the chest. It grunts but still stands.
The white kobold sees it's chance. It rushes around the distracted Valeros to attempt to flank the fighter. (Provoking an AOO from Valeros). If it's still standing, the kobold will slash at the fighter.

Mary opens the door and sees the kobolds. Clearly, they see her too. "What? Again! What is it with all the kobolds down here?" She easily ducks a couple of rather pathetic spear thrusts, but not expecting to be attacked by a jar, reacts a little too slowly and gets covered in oil. "That's just great! And I only just got out of the shower too."
With the kobold blocking her way, Mary says, "Excuse me." and steps carefully past it into the room...
Mary steps to the square directly east of the red kobold to get flanking with Valeros.
Mary is having trouble keeping her feet under her, so she once again steps carefully back into the hallway to gain some cover from the little devils making their way across the room.
Door is closed and requires an Interact action to open. You can't end a Move action in the same square as someone (unless you use another Move action immediately afterwards). So as of now, only Mary and Valeros would be able to open up the door.
Kyra, not seeing an opportunity to run in, delays.
The brown kobold grabs a bottle inside the chest, runs closer to Valeros and lobs it at him.
bottle:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
The bottle smashes at the feet of Valeros.
Similar to Mary's square, the square Valeros is on is now slippery. To traverse it, one must succeed at a DC 10 Acrobatics check or fall prone. You can take the Step action without needing to do the check.
The pink kobold runs over to the table, grabs some more rotten fish and tosses it at Valeros.

But the fish disintegrates in the air and Valeros is just pummeled with chunks of flesh.

"Aah, what is that stench? You shall be the next one to meet my blade! Or you all can give up now and have a chance to save your lives!" Valeros yells out.
Then he will move if the kobold is dead or raise shield if it still lives.
And incase he needed to make one

I guess I'll take my turn now, then.
At the sound of the door opening, Ezren steps out to get a clear view and then he points his staff towards the group of kobolds. Electricity shoots out, arcing around Mary to the two kobolds directly in front of her.
Electric Arc on Blue and Pink (Reflex DC 17):1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Then Kyra jumps in, hopping over the oil patch. Channeling Sarenrae, she lobs fire directly at the three kobolds in front of her. The blue one sizzles to a crisp while the other two manage to withstand the blast.
When the door slams in Mary's face, she curses. "Blasted sneaky cowardly kobold scum of the earth! You can't get away that easily." But despite her cursing, Mary has trouble finding her footing in the oil as the door swings back open and Kyra rushes past her. "Hey! Wait up for me! I don't want to miss any of the fun."
The elf finally gets her act together and enters the room...

...and managing not to fall flat on her face in the oil, sort of half slides up to the healthier looking kobold in front of her. Holding her rapier straight out in front of her, she plunges it into the creature to slow her advance. "Take that you rotten-fish-sucking wannabe-dragon!"
Not wanting to remain in the way of either Ezren or Kyra's next magical blast, she kicks the now (presumably) dead kobold off her rapier and rejoins her friends.
Action 3 (◆): Stride (30 feet) Acrobatics (Slippery) vs DC 10:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The brown kobold looks around and realizes he's the last one left. He immediately drops his weapons, gets down to his knees, and grovels for his life with a raspy, high-pitched voice. "Please! Let me go. I promise never to return.". He quietly adds with snot and tears running down his face, [smaller]"I can share secrets... in exchange for gold."
You can either refuse his surrender and kill him. You can exchange gold for information. Or you can try a Diplomacy check or Intimidate check to try to weasel out the info.
Mary curls her lip as the kobold begs. To her companions, she says, "These sneaky little devils can't be trusted. If we let him go, he'll just come back with more friends." Then, dropping her voice to a whisper only they can hear, she adds, "Still, the idea of skewering the groveling little snot doesn't seem right, even if it is the safest thing we could do. Should we run him upstairs before we continue?"
Mary has crap Charisma, so I'll leave the coercing to others.

"Secrets?" Ezren enters the room, addressing the kobold's claim. "Well, that's an interesting proposition there. What kind of secrets? I don't think you're in much of a position to negotiate."
I'm sure we can come to an understanding, but you have to realize that going from spare me to pay me in the same breath is a leap, especially when you ask to be set free. Your life and freedom are worth something to you, maybe even more than gold. Consider sharing some information as a more personal path towards redemption, rather than general imprisonment.
The kobold grovels. "Boss Zolgran is the big leader of the mighty kobolds, and she has powerful magics to roast you alive! She's very angry all the time and demands much from her servants. Especially now that we have a powerful new friend!"
Once everyone has had a shot at extracting useful information from the kobold, Mary says, "I think we're done here." Mary, rapier in hand, advances menacingly on the whimpering creature...

Mary then goes back into the fountain room...

...and hopping back into the water, uses soap to wash all the oil off herself. She then dries off as best she can and rejoins the others in the kobold's lair, carefully stepping through the oil patch along the way to avoid getting coated in the stuff again.
"Found anything useful yet?" Mary makes a detailed search of the room and the sleeping alcoves off to the side, taking special care with the kobold bodies, chest, boxes and sleeping pallets.
The kobold starts to speak some more before Mary comes in, knocks him on the head, and runs away. The kobold looks around confused, realizes what's up, and dashes away to the north.
"You monsters! Trying to kill me after I surrender? Rot in Hell. Zolgran will kill each and every one of you."

By my rough estimate, it looks like Valeros can do a sudden charge and hit the fleeing Kobold. Can he use the flat of his blade to do non-lethal damage?

Ezren just shakes his head and points his staff at the kobold. Eletricity shoots out of it at the kobold and then with a 'whump', a blue bolt kicks out, slamming into the fleeing creature.
The kobold ran deep into the next room and you don't see him any more. I just placed him on the grey square as you know he's in that room, but are unsure where he is exactly. You don't know what's in the next room - could be more kobolds or the boss. Or it could be nothing. Do Valeros and Ezren follow the kobolds into the room?
Upon seeing the kobold flee, Mary and Kyra decide to examine the room. Each kobold here is wearing a copper-and-eggshell necklace like those found earlier. Each kobold has leather armor and three spears. There's also a chest filled with trinkets and collected valuables. It holds a bolt of fine silk cloth worth 5 gp, a painting of an adventurer on a horse worth 2 gp, a sack filled with 20 sp, a crystal decanter filled with old, sour wine (the decanter is worth 1 gp), 1 jar of oil, a ladder feather token, and a healing potion.

"Don't let him get away!" Ezren will follow into the next room.
Mary is a little surprised when the kobold stays on his feet after what she thought was an excellent punch to the nose. She watches as it runs out of the room. "Oh well. Nothing for it. I guess we'll be dealing with him and his friends soon enough." Seeing Ezren decide to run after it, she calls out, "Don't do it, Ez! We need to stick together if we want to avoid becoming dragon food."
The kobold's gone. I'm guessing he used all his movement on his turn to run away and is now huddled with whatever allies he has in the next room waiting for us to show up.
She goes ahead and washes the oil off herself. It would just be too annoying to have to continue through the rest of this cave always worrying about whether her next step would leave her flat on her back. She then collects all the loot they found. She stows most of it but gives the jar of oil to Valeros. "Here ya go, Val. You're probably the only one of us that has any chance of hitting something with it. We should go back and pick up all the weapons and armor once we're done down here; they're worth something to someone too."
While in one of the kobold sleeping alcoves, she notices a loose pile of boulders blocking a passageway and examines them more closely.

Just thinking out loud. If we give chase, the kobold speed could be faster than ours. He know the path and could lead us into a trap. or right into a very large group of his friends. But we could catch him and then there would be no warning to the rest of the clan that we are coming.
On the other hand, if we let him go. Every minute we delay is more time for him to get his buddies to get ready and have all sorts of nasty surprises for us.
But thinking about it there is a third option and that is search this room and fall back. There was another tunnel we could take a look at and as time passes the kobolds should relax their guard.
So with that in mind and half the party not wanting to run after the kobold...
Valeros starts to give chase with Ezren, but Mary call him back. He knows Mary is the trap expert here and Kobolds love their traps. So he stops running.
"Lets let him go Ezren. We have wounded to tend to and I am not too fond of running into a fight blindly. Lets go and see what these critters have that might be of some use." And Valros heads back into the room but stands guard incase the kobold comes back with friends.

Ok, Ezren will stop at the doorway where his icon is. It's an open area, so if there's something in there, it'll be coming to us anyway. If he can see the kobold from there, he'll use his last action to cast the force bolt focus spell at him. Force Bolt:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Okay, just to clarify before continuing. Mary would still be in the fountain room (since she ran there after attacking the kobold). Valeros and Kyra wait while Ezren runs forth. Is that sound right?

Ok, Ezren will not run in. He'll be held back by their calls of caution. I don't actually think we're wounded, but the wizard is compelled by a call of more clearheaded thinking.
Ezren pulls up short as he is moving to climb the stairs after the kobold. He turns to the others. "We should be ready if he gets reinforcements. He spoke of someone named Zolgran and a 'powerful new friend.'"
As Ezren starts to dash after the kobold, the others hold him back - who knows what dangers lie ahead.
While the heroes re-group and examine the room, Mary cleans off the oil in the mermaid fountain. The group finds some interesting treasures.
Mary then goes to scout one of the kobold's sleeping alcoves and spots some stone. She can see that it looks relatively recently dug out, but can't see much beyond the wall. The stones are too heavy to be delicate - only brute force can be applied here.
Mary can't find a subtle way to break down the rock pile, so she takes hold of one of the small boulders and gives it a heave...
Athletics vs DC 20:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
...but barely budges it. "Dang it! They really don't want anyone going this way I guess... or getting out. Maybe it leads to the same place as that passageway we cleared in the first room." She shudders at the thought; that rotten fish and sweat smell with the dripping water had all the makings of a large creature’s lair. She comes back into the main room, and using her thumb to indicate the alcove she just came out of, says, "Unless Valeros wants to try clearing a way, I guess we're stuck with following our little buddy into the next room and meeting his friends."
Mary then prepares to do just that. Pulling her rapier out, she quietly approaches the northern passageway and tries to listen carefully for any potential enemies lying in wait in the next room.
Whisper Elf:
You have a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception to hear creatures within 30 feet.
Let's backtrack and see what was behind those barrels. They don't see like the most patient group. They may lose focus on any ambush they're preparing.
When Kyra mentions the passageway behind the barrels, Mary blanches. "Uh, I don't think that such a good idea, Kyra. That barricade and these rocks were put there for a reason, and from the smell of things, it's to keep a very large and hungry creature from getting loose."
She jabs her head towards the doorway to the north. "I'd rather take my chances with more kobolds, even if they know we're coming. It'll be a lot easier for us to deal with their 'dragon', or whatever their powerful new friend is, once we've taken out all its minions."
I'm guessing the dragon thingy is supposed to be the BBG on this level and Mary sees no reason to rush into that fight before clearing out the rest of this dungeon.

To be fair, we don't know where the BBEG is, but it would seem to make sense to follow the kobold.
Ezren nods. "Let's be wary going after that one though. He certain has had time to warn others and engage any traps."
If you head back to the barrels, you can try to disable it with a DC 15 Thievery or Crafting check. Failure means that it collapses. Or attack it with weapons to destroy it.

Hilarious!
Mary is young at heart (though apparently some 128 years old). Ezren at 40, Kyra at 30 and Valeros not far behind must be some of those 'human companions who grew old while she stayed young'.
Can I assume that Mary used Stealth for her initiative since she was trying to Avoid Notice? If so, then she's undetected by Green and Blue and should catch then flat-footed, right? Sorry if these are obvious questions, but I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how a rogue works.
Yeah - if everyone can put their default exploration mode in their header, that'll be super helpful! If that changes, please let me know. If you're unsure about exploration activities, you can read up on them here or here.
For Mary, you can definitely roll Stealth for initiative (but it's the same as your perception, right?). But it's based off of their perception DCs (not their initiatives), which would be 15. Unfortunately, that means they see you and you aren't hidden from them.
Ezren - you get three actions per round. Force Bolt is only one action. What are your other two actions?
Enchanter's Pregen wrote:

I looked at the BB slides that are floating around and it says there that Force Bolt is 2-actions. Same with the associated Ezren profile TXT file that goes with it. I believe this is an error.
We should be going by the officially published Paizo stuff, namely the Heroes Handbook from the Beginner Box, which on page 37 clearly shows it as a one-action focus spell of the Evocation school. Same goes with the focus spells of the other two schools (which are correctly shown as 1-action in the BB slides), and which matches the CRB.

Ah I didn't realize Force Bolt was listed elsewhere in the BB handbook. So if it's simply a typo on the pregen sheet, then can adjudicate it to a 1 action spell.
Yeah - I just looked it up. In the Heroes Handbook, it does list it as a 1 action spell, but actual pregen does have it as a 2 action spell. Let's stick with the Heroes Handbook version (and the CRB version) so 1 action it is!
How about the following for a default marching order?

Valeros
Ezren
Kyra

Mary will be using Avoid Notice for exploration, because Rogue, but she does have Trap Spotter that's active all the time. We could probably use a Scout (Valeros?), someone Searching (Kyra?) and Detecting Magic (Ezren?).

Sounds good GM. We're on a bit of a roll, so maybe after we've cleared this level we can head back, report to Tamily and convert the loot into more functional items before continuing to the next level. I haven't been on a good dungeon crawl like this in aeons.

There is a character sheet PDF for each of the pregens in the Beginner Box. I assume this is the official info that is to be used for playing the pregens in the BB.
The numbers I'm seeing for Valeros are as follows:
NG Human Warden (+4hp) Farmhand Fighter
24hp, Speed 25'
Str +4, Dex +2, Con +2, Int +1, Wis +0, Cha +0
Trained Skills: Acrobatics +5, Athletics +7 (w/Assurance), Crafting +4, Diplomacy +3, Intimidation +3, Farming Lore +4, Survival +3
Perception (e) +5, Fortitude (e) +7, Reflex (e) +7, Will (t) +3
AC 18, Longsword +9, Dagger +9, Shortbow +7
The special BB Warden heritage for Humans reads as follows:
Warden Human
You and your family members are survivors and you've learned how to take care of yourself. Pick one of the following benefits and write it on your character sheet:
- Add 4 to your maximum Hit Points
- You become an expert in Fortitude saving throws
- You become trained in medium armor.
Looks like the pregen Valeros chose to go with the +4 hp. Looks like he picks up expert in fortitude and trained in medium armor from being a fighter anyway.

Yeah, I would not use the Valeros PFS pregen. That one is for PFS scenarios whereas the BB pregen has some different rules (like the Warden background) and does not assume you are in Pathfinder Society, so you don't get the extra school bonuses.
Yeah, please use the BB Valeros, not the PFS Valeros as they are both built with a slightly different ruleset.
The BB Valeros does have +5 to perception (0 WIS + 5 (E) Prof), 24 HP, and AC 18. What other stats were you interested in adding? I can make sure they're right.
Also, looking on the link on your profile - you are using the Playtest Valeros which is using an outdated ruleset that they changed with the release of PF2e.

I was looking for what his Str., Int., Wis., etc is Some what like what Mary has posted, thank you Mary.
I will dump the PFS sheets and add the info that I need.
If you want, you can compare the BB Valeros (which you can find here) to the PFS Valeros (which you can find here or here). (Again, you were using the Playtest Valeros which is not using PF2e rules.)
The only major difference I see is Valeros's heritage - the BB heritage gives Valeros +4 hp while the PFS Valeros gains one feat. Otherwise numbers are pretty much the same.
Not sure how much we'll get for the stuff we sell. Assuming 'worth' means we get full price, and 'list' means we get half price, then we're looking at around 37.95gp plus whatever the Spike Snares and Eggshell Necklace get us.
Accounting Stuff:
05.00 Shortsword with Small Emerald
07.50 Everlasting Torch (15gp/2)
05.00 Gold Ring
00.45 Mary's old Shortsword (9sp/2)
20.00 Small glass box with emerald
Total: 37.95gp
??.00 Eggshell Necklace
??.00 n * Spike Snares (n*3gp/2)
Adding that to the actual coins we collected, we end up with about 73.29gp. Now what? I suggest the following:
1) Buy two more +1 Weapon Potency runes for Valeros and Kyra (70gp)
2) Transfer the +1 Weapon Potency rune from the shortsword to Mary's preferred rapier (3.5gp)
The GM will presumably correct any errors and tell us if the Eggshell Necklace and Spike Snares are worth anything. Other than that, how does that sound as a general approach?
Here are your chronicle sheets! The game has been submitted for PFS credit. Let me know if something on your sheet looks wrong or you aren't seeing the game reported.
The eggshell necklace doesn't have a listed price, so let's assume it's worthless (though it's pretty). The snares are indeed these and are 3 gp each. One is currently open, so you'll have to disable it first if you want to sell it.
The chronicle looks fine and seems to have been properly reported. The only funny thing I see that for GP Gained, it says 14 xp, but that's no big deal.

Looks good! This was fun. Anyone think it was a bit of a cake walk though? I guess it's not meant to be overly challenging as much as getting to exercise the rules.
It did seem a little easy compared to some starter adventures I've played in (*cough* Plaguestone *cough*), but it sounds like it's just a warm up for the lower level.
I take it that the listed hero point count is what we'll start the lower level with.
With a pretty but worthless necklace (which I suggest we give to Tamily as a gift), and 3 Spike Snares, the updated stuff we sell total is now 42.45 for a grand total of 77.79gp.

If we go with my original suggestion on how to spend it, that will leave us with 4.29gp to spare. Given that Ezren is getting a little shorted on the upgrades front, I suggest that he spend it on a Scroll or something.

Do we have any AOE items like alchemist fire? In training scenarios like this, I am always wary that they like to show you how to handle swarms. I might even swap one of Ezren's spells to Burning Hands, but I could just be paranoid.
We seemed to do just fine with the two Light spells cast on Valeros's shield and Ezren's staff. We didn't use the Everburning Torch at all on the upper level, so I thought it would be more useful converted into a +1 rune. The Everburning Torch also needs to be carried around in someone's hand and at 15gp list price is one of the more valuable items we found.
We picked up the Minor Healing Potion that Valeros is currently carrying, and Kyra has three Heal spells. In a pinch, I just noticed that Mary has Healer's Tools and is trained in Medicine for Treat Wounds. If all else fails, we can backtrack to Gozreh's little shrine and drink the water. Also, Ezren seems to have 8gp burning a hole in his pocket, with the rest of us having 1gp each, for a total of 11gp. This could be converted into a couple of healing potions or elixirs.
If we're expecting to run into clumps of minor creatures, then Burning Hands work fine (if you get close enough). That would apply to clumped kobolds as well as swarms. We could spend some of that 11gp pocket money we have on some Alchemist's Fire, though being a Martial weapon, it would require Valeros to throw it for a good chance of success.
Now that we’re back in action (though not so much in the case of Mary), did we finalize anything about cashing in the loot and buying new stuff, or are we starting from scratch again on the lower level? Maybe converting the loot into useful stuff isn’t allowed between the levels. Do we at least get to keep the stuff we found on the upper level?
If we are still allowed to convert loot and pocket change into useful stuff, then my original proposal, with additions, is as follows:
35.00gp: +1 Weapon Potency rune for Valeros's longsword
35.00gp: +1 Weapon Potency rune for Kyra's scimitar
03.50gp: +1 Weapon Potency rune transferred to Mary's rapier
03.00gp: Lesser Alchemist's Fire
12.00gp: 3 * Minor Healing Potion
Total cost is 88.5gp, leaving us with 2sp and 9cp. If Ezren has a scroll or two he'd rather bring along, then we can convert a Minor Healing Potion or two into scrolls.

I didn't really mean it when I said it was cake walk...
Ezren will buy a scroll of Burning Hands from his own coin. He will rememorize Magic Missile, but switch his other 1st level spell to Gust of Wind.
Spells Memorized:
1st: Magic Missile, Gust of Wind
cantrips: Detect Magic, Light, Mage Hand, Electric Arc, Ray of Frost
1) You have Mary as up, but being unconscious (but not dying) there is nothing she can do nor any recovery rolls she needs to make.
2) The Green Kobold was apparently killed, yet the strikeout went missing from its name on the list. I assume this is a typo as Green is crossed out on the map.
3) Did we or did we not convert the loot for stuff as per my suggestion (with Ezren buying a scroll of Burning Hands instead of a third Minor Healing Potion) before we re-entered the dungeon? If so, then Valeros and Kyra now have a +1 to their attack rolls (along with Mary and her Rapier).
4) I notice that Valeros added a +1 to his attack rolls (presumably for the +1 Weapon Potency rune), but also added a +1 to the damage, which is not something that a Weapon Potency rune provides.
1) Yeah, it's a force of habit I guess. Mary can't really do anything (unless Valeros heals her somehow).
2) I copy/paste the round tracker. Strikes (as well as bolding, underlines, etc.) don't get copied so I always have to redo them. Sometimes I'll miss one or two, so sorry about that!
3) I believe so, but will leave it up to you guys.
4) Thanks for catching that. He would've killed the kobold even without that extra +1.

opps, yes I did add +1 to attack and damage. I was thinking that the rune made it a +1 weapon (like older/ other systems). Please remove the +1 damage on each.
Oops. Forgot to move Mary's token for her Stride back into the first room. She's hoping that with no one in the fountain room that the trap will reset and she can make another similar attempt at a different trigger. Either way, she's behind cover for the mermaid's next attack.
Did Mary manage to disable the SE trigger after all that?
Yep, Mary disabled the southeast mechanism. So only the two north mechanisms are left. However, the trap is still active and is still spraying water. Does not seem to deactivate when Mary leaves the room.
Will wait to see if anyone else wants to go in the room before updating.

Is it spraying the whole room or just the yellow square area?
