Getting into the Leroy Jenkins spirit, Borkinhaf dashes in to flank and stabs with her rapier at the flanked blue kobold

Then she rasies her shield.
Cherem Choombolat |
" I am a master of the sacred elements! Your fish flinging will not avail you!"
Choombolat ignores the fish and summons his mystical bow to loose a dart of force at the most wounded kobold. Simultaneously, his eyes glow with icy elemental force that lashes out at the enemy.
Freezing ray: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 1 = 22
cold damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
force damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Each will target the most wounded available enemy at the time of casting, with the goal of finishing off one or two.
GM Mauve |
Slorol attacks the kobold right in front of him. With one swing, he definitely hurts the creature, but alas it still stands. The fighter then raises his shield, hoping to stave off any additional attacks.
Borkinhaf runs around the other side of the blue kobold and easily skewers it.
Red Will vs Bruna: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bruna points at the red kobold. It clutches its head as it falls to the table, life drained out of its eyes.
Then Choombolat unleashes a ray of frost at the pink kobold who freezes to death. Then points at the brown kobold. An arcane bolt slams into its side.
The brown kobold attempts to skewer Borkinhaf.

Brown Spear vs Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 3 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 5 = 7

But doesn't get past her armor. Then it steps up the stairs and calls out to the room above in Draconic.
The white kobold steps up to Borkinhaf and attempts to slash at her.
White Spear vs Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

White Spear vs Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 3 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 5 = 6
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Similarly, this kobold can't hit worth anything!
Just then, more kobolds arrive from the north. Two of these kobolds look slightly stronger and carry crossbows (light and dark green). But the kobold behind them is a whole lot bigger (purple). "What is the meaning of this! Intruding in our home and killing off my people!?"
The two green kobolds unleash their crossbows at Borkinhaf.
Light green Crossbow vs Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Dark green Crossbow vs Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
damage: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
They can't hit either! But the large purple kobold points at Borkinhaf. The rogue starts to whimper in fear.
Borkinhaf must make a DC 20 Basic Will save per Fear

GM Mauve |
Okay, to move us along, will have her speak.
"By 'catching' thieves, you mean slaughtering an entire tribe. Those 'compatriots' were young and didn't know any better. They were simply defending our claim to this land.". She snarls. "But you come in, kill them."
She surveys the killing ground. "Yes, we stole a few fish. But that doesn't mean you had to kill us all. We're barely surviving down here and I doubt we'll survive after this.". She snarls again. "If you wanted to talk, I would've turned myself in. But you had to come and be violent. We have no choice but to return this violence."
Slorol Nutflush |
"There are other options above ground, options we'd be happy to help you explore. Your tribe seems to be excellent at making snares and traps, those could be useful for hunting. Or even fishing if you like fish. Come upstairs with us, and we'll help you find a new home."
Slorol will sheathe his sword but keep his shield up.
GM Mauve |
@Slorol, you have already gone here. We're waiting on Bruna, Choombolat, and Borkinhaf to decide their actions. If anyone wants to delay, please let me know.

Seeing that his companions are attempting diplomacy, Choombolat refrains from attacking and allows the energy of the spell he was beginning to cast to recede back into himself. The two shadowy duplicates that were just starting to take shape dissipate without firing their missiles. Instead, the wizard summons a mystic shield and cleans himself of fish.
Clear fish. Shield (AC 20). Will block incoming damage if applicable.
"The others we met did not seem willing to explain themselves. But I am listening now, if you have anything to say."
GM Mauve |
Choombolat cleans off the fish and casts a spell, protecting him from any further attack. He waits and sees what the kobolds do.
Borkinhaf seems a bit intimidated of the kobolds and starts shaking in her boots!

"Fools. You think you can talk now after killing half my tribe.".
She turns to Choombolat. "Those kobolds were young and inexperienced. They only know one thing: to protect our tribe at all cost. No reason for you to murder them.". She's very angry, surveying the room, then yells out. "KILL THEM ALL!"
The brown kobold charges and flanks Slorol. He tries to stab the elf.

Bruna manages to channel positive energy as Slorol's wounds slowly heal up.
Then Borkinhaf runs around the white kobold and stabs. But she's unnaturally scared (Frightened 1) so her aim is just slightly off. But the rogue finally manages to shake off her frightened condition and is more than ready to fight!
The white kobold then runs behind Borkinhaf and stabs. "Stay away from me!"

Bruna moves up while she heals up Slorol. The elf's wounds slowly stitch up.

Slorol turns to the lighter green kobold. He stabs at it, but this one is just a touch tougher than normal. Slices and dices but its still standing!
Then Choombolat retaliates against the boss kobold. Three solid missiles slam against her side.

"The fish though...". He doesn't continue his train of thought.
You can pay him 10 gp and he share what he knows about the missing fish. Or you can attempt a Diplomacy or Intimidation to try to coerce him to speak.
Cherem Choombolat |
"I agree, we should accept his surrender."
Choombolat moves to collect the dropped bow and any other weapons the kobold possesses.
"Is there anything else down here besides you kobolds?" he asks.

Intimidation: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Slorol's voice cracks when he tries to act tough.
GM Mauve |
The kobold struggles to speak... "A dragon.... a green dragon. It was just born. Zolgran..." he points to the dead kobold boss lady, "she was raising it. Some of her meanness rubbed off on the dragon. It's angry all the time. I stay far away from it when I can. We were stealing to fish to feed it."
The kobold looks around cautiously. "Please take me to this Absalom. There are nicer kobolds there, right? I don't want to work for another like Zolgran again..."
If you want to do a Recall Knowledge check on Dragons, please give me your Arcana modifier and I'll do a secret check for you.
Looking at the body of Zolgran, you find she has an eggshell necklace, an iron key, and a staff. Heading into the room to the north, you see her 'throne', which also served as her personal resting area. A straw pallet rests here. Examining the throne, it looks like it belongs upstairs in the ballroom area.
There is also an old, rusty iron chest in this room. Atop the chest is a large, broken eggshell that's almost 2 feet tall. Ivory in color, the shell has green veins running through it, and it's clear that the pieces of eggshell worn by the boss and many of the kobolds came from this egg. There are large claw marks, bigger than any kobold could make, down one side of the shell.
The chest is locked. You can attempt to use Thievery to open it ... or perhaps use the key you found off Zolgran.
Also, the room to the east (the room the kobold said the dragon would be in), you can spot rather large mushrooms.
GM Mauve |
Slorol uses the key to open up the chest. Inside is a silver bracelet with a fish pattern worth about 5 gp, a very old map that depicts some strange-looking dungeon, a sword with a dwarven face carved into the hilt, a wand, 2 potions, and a hat.
Choombolat believes the sword, the wand, the potions, and hat are all magical.
Bruna NightGuard |

Potion: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Hat: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 = 15
Choombolat takes one look at the sword. Must be a very powerful artifact. Maybe one of the rumored lost dwarven swords of lore.
He also knows, without a doubt, the wand is a wand of heal and the potions are healing potions.
The hat, he believes, is a hat of disguise, but he's not as sure.
Slorol Nutflush |
Slorol will use the hat of disguise, along with some props (eggshell necklace and staff) to disguise himself as Zolgran (or at least a random kobold).
"Let's pretend I captured you, it will get us close."
GM Mauve |
Revealed the next/last room.
As the heroes head into the room, there is no immediate sign of the dragon. Towering yellow mushrooms cover the floor of the cave, some reaching over ten feet in height. They seem to emit a pale light, giving the entire chamber an eerie glow. Shattered remnants of barrels - torn open with their contents nowhere to be seen - lay scattered around the base of the mushrooms. Somewhere off on the far side of the chamber, something stirs, and a faint snarl comes from the shadows.
You can climb a mushroom with a successful DC 20 Athletics check.
What do you do?
