Choombolat flings an icy blast at the purple kobold. And good hit! The purple kobold falls to the ground. She starts shivering from the cold, then suddenly stops as the life drains out of her.
Bruna points at the yellow kobold attempting to daze it.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
And the kobold falls to the ground too, holding it's head in pain.
The last remaining kobold will stab at Borkinhaf.
shortsword: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 3
shortsword: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 4 = 19
piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Both attacks hit the rogue! The kobold then scurries away, starting to run down the stairs.

Bruna (18/20 hp; seasick)
Red kobold
Yellow kobold

Purple kobold
Choombolat (15/16 hp)
Borkinhaf and Slorol are up!

"Oh, no, you don't."
Slorol chases the kobold (avoiding the known snares and traps, which will cost 2 Strides) and tries to knock him out.
Longsword, Magic, Non-lethal: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 - 2 = 14
Nonlethal: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 5) + 4 = 16
Slorol will swing nonlethal if the kobold provokes.
Nonlethal: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12
Cherem Choombolat
I'm gonna go ahead and act assuming no Bork for now. Also, Choom goes before the red kobold either way.
"I surmise that Master Slorol wishes to take the last one alive so that we can learn about this "mission" of theirs." Choombolat rumbles.
He strides forward until he is in view of the enemy and raises his staff high, chanting deep, rolling mystic syllables as if to call down fell power upon the hapless kobold. A freezing ray leaps out from the staff once more, but this time, Choombolat, knowing that his own spell is far from nonlethal, deliberately aims wide, aiming to scare and distract the kobold from defending against Slorol rather than to actually freeze it.
Stride twice (for trap avoidance), Aid Slorol
Aid Slorol's attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
I'm attempting to Aid Slorol's attack roll with a spell attack roll, I think? I found an Aid rule on Nethys, and it seems the DC is usually 20 unless DM adjusted, so I think that's a failure, but not a crit failure, and has no effect.
GM Mauve
Sent Borkinhaf a PM. Hope all is well with them. Looks like they haven't posted in any of their games in a week or so. Will just delay them.
Choomboalat notices that Borkinhaf is frozen in place, perhaps mesmerized by the kobolds. A lot has happened in the last few hours.
The wizard attempts to leap around the snares laying on the ground. He aims but unfortunately, the kobold doesn't seem to care.
Seeing the big scary elf Slorol stand guard, he attempts to hurriedly retreat. But Slorol prepares for the sneak away - by hitting the kobold right across the head. The kobold falls down to the ground, unconscious.
Congrats! You now have an unconscious kobold.
Between the three kobolds, you find each carrying some dried fish, rotten leather armor, and some spears. The larger one also has a shortsword. She also has an eggshell necklace. The eggshell is ivory in color, but has strange green veins running through it. The piece is only about 3 inches across, but the egg must have come from something about 2 feet wide.
Now you have to decide what to do. Do you go downstairs to see whats down there? Return to Tamily and see what she has to say? Rest up in Otari and go shopping?
Bruna NightGuard

Good work all. I suppose we better take this duregar up to town and try and find out what it were fleeing too. I know I need a long nap after all this. I be real tired. Bruna says with a long sigh.
Cherem Choombolat
"Well struck, Master Slorol!"
Choombolat takes stock of their situation and helps the party gather up what they have found.
"Yes, I agree. Let's return and report to our employer, find a place for our prisoner, and recover our strength. Miss Borkinhaf looks like she could also use a rest."
Choombolat takes charge of the dazed-looking elven lady and makes sure she makes it safely back upstairs.
"Hmmm... that eggshell must have come from a very large egg..." the wizard murmurs to himself as they go. "Impressively large..."
GM Mauve
Bruna examines the egg, but is completely unsure what creature it could come from.
The heroes decide to head back upstairs to Tamily, bringing the unconscious kobold back with them. Tamily Tanderveil gasps as they unveil the monster kobold. "That thing was living under my fishery?". She gasps. "I know all about kobolds. Those tricky creatures! They're related to dragons, live in small tribes, and have a fondness for traps. But a small tribe of kobolds couldn't account for the amount of fish we are missing. There might be something far hungrier beneath the city.". She implores the heroes to continue their exploration, but offers a room for the tired adventurers. "It's the least I could do."
Bruna hands Tamily the necklace. "Looks like it comes from a giant turtle or another reptile. But for all I know, it could be from a demon or something much worse.". She shudders at the thought.
Okay, you are free to rest up if you want! You also acquired some stuff that you can sell off. With that and the gold you found, you are also able to purchase a few things. I can compile a list of everything found if you want.
Slorol Nutflush
Soo ... I was lame and didn't keep track of anything we got. Did someone keep a handy list? If not, I'll go back through the thread and tally it all up.
"There are another set of stairs heading down, I think we need a little rest, and we can keep exploring."
GM Mauve
Okay, here's a list of everything you found (hopefully don't miss anything):
Spider:
Shortsword with Small Emerald - 5gp
Minor Healing Potion
Skeletons:
Everburning Torch
Lion Steel Shield - 5gp
Kobolds 1:
200sp
Gold Ring - 5gp
+1 Shortsword
leather armor x4
spears x12
dried fish
Abadar Statue:
8gp
lead coin - 0gp
Abadar Chest:
3gp, 22sp, 214cp
Scroll of Magic Missile
Small glass box with emerald - 20gp
Kobolds 2:
Eggshell Necklace - 0gp
Spike Snares x3
spear x9
leather armor x3
shortsword
Slorol Nutflush
Slorol would like to keep the lead coin. Nobody's going to buy it, and when he needs to ante up in poker uh I mean he wants it as a souvenir.
Slorol is using the lion shield - he'll sell his old steel shield, which should fetch 1 gp.
And because he doesn't have darkvision, he'd like the group to decide on the everburning torch - we can sell it if Cherem can keep casting light for Slorol, and someone else can hold the torch (so Slorol can have both hands for a shield and sword). We've done it so far, but I didn't want to assume.
We should probably have someone besides Bruna carry the healing potion, in case Bruna needs to be healed.
It's a shame to sell the snares, but it doesn't seem like we have much time to set them up.
We should keep the scroll of magic missile of course.
Cherem Choombolat
Choombolat amiably agrees to continue providing magelight so that the group will not need to carry the everburning torch.
Assuming scrolls work about the same as in 1e, I guess I'll end up carrying the Magic Missile one.
GM Mauve
The group decides to head down to the lower level, after resting in Otari and purchasing any essentials they deem necessary. They arrive back at the large hall and head down the spiral staircase. The stairs spiral down deep into the earth before ending in a chamber that looks like it's been prepared specifically to defend against intruders. On one side of the room, a table has been turned on its side to provide cover, while on the other, crates and barrels have been piled up to create a second barrier.
Bruna: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Borkinhaf: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Slorol: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

The room seems empty, but eerily quiet. Borkinhaf (i.e. Merisiel) and Bruna sense something is off...

in which case both Bruna and Borkinhaf will just wait for Slorol to go in as per marching order lol. The initiative without surprise attacks is weird.
GM Mauve
Okay, I misread it! You can sense there is something in the room, but you're not sure where. You'll have to Seek. Choose an area (e.g. either the table or the barrels).
Seek: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Success! You know there is an enemy there.
Seek: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Fail. Does not see anything.
GM Mauve
Bruna notices a kobold hiding out behind the table and calls out!
The green kobold pokes his head out, realizing he's been seen. He shoots his crossbow at Slorol, reloading, and shooting again.

Two action heal on Slorol

Borkinhaf continues to wait for a flank.
Cherem Choombolat
Choombolat considers the relative merits of advancing into a possibly kobold-trapped room or of waiting idle on the stairs, unable to see the enemy to work his spells while they turn Slorol into a pincushion.
The latter seems a bigger risk than the former, and the wizard darts down the stairs and then breaks left, loosing a mystic bolt at the green kobold. Uncomfortably aware that he is exposing himself to both crossbows and traps, he also works a charm to protect himself.
Shield, stride, force dart. Temporary AC 19 and can block a little damage..
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Apologies - I think I accidentally clicked away the new messages on the thread.
Slorol nods at Bruna appreciatively, and raises his shield, moving along the wall. He Strikes at Green with his longsword.

Slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Bruna nearly swears, but heals up Slorol. The elf feels better as his wounds stitch close.
Choombolat unleashes a bolt of force towards the greenish kobold. Direct hit! The kobold curses at the wizard. "You'll pay for that!"
Slorol moves in, attempting to strike at the kobold. But these creatures are unusually agile and dodge out of the way!
Merisiel sees her chance. She runs in and slashes at the green kobold.

And Merisiel downs the green kobold! The yellow kobold looks on in horror. "What did you do to my friend! You'll pay for that, you monster!". He drops his crossbow, moves up, and slashes at Merisiel.
shortsword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

The kobold goes down thanks to Merisiel's repeated stabs. Searching the bodies of both kobolds, you find each has a crossbow with 20 19 bolts, both have an eggshell necklace, leather armor, and a shortsword.
Bruna (20/20)
Slorol (17/17)
Merisiel (10/15)
Choombolat (16/16)
There are two exits here: one to the north, beyond the barrels, and one to the west. It is pitch black in both directions. If you want to head north, you will have to tear down the barricade or carefully disassemble it with a Thievery check. A failure means it may collapse
Slorol Nutflush
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
So, I thought that was one Perception check and opened both spoilers. I'll make a second check and if it doesn't hit, I'll pretend I didn't see it.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
"Ugh ... what's that smell? It's coming from the north."
Slorol will not advocate trying to carefully dismantle the barricade, but will stand by and protect anyone with his shield if they want to try. He'll advocate going the easy way - west, and second choice would just be to kick the whole thing over (loudly).
Bruna NightGuard
|
Well let's go west then, but first..
Bruna takes 10 minutes to try and heal Merisiel after casting Guidance on herself.
Medicine check: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 1 = 25
and does a wonderful job again.
Mebbe I should just move to Kyonin and open up a healer's shop for elves only Burna mutters.

Slorol comes up with a catchy jingle. Elves love catchy jingles.
When a brute-a makes a wound-a
Sing a tune-a and go to Bruna!
Cherem Choombolat
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"Something does smell past that barricade. But I also think we should check out the left-hand path first." Choombolat agrees. "That barricade should work both ways and protect our backs."
Choombolat smiles at Slorol's tune and prepares to head westwards.
GM Mauve
The group decides to head west, lead by Borkinhaf. Her elven eyes see something in front of her: a mermaid fountain. While much of the rectangular chamber is in ruins, the center contains a fountain of pristine water with something glittering at the bottom. In the middle of the fountain is a marble statue of a mermaid, her lips pursed as if she were about to blow a kiss, or maybe whistle. Each corner of the pool has some sort of mechanism embedded in the stone, but the one in the southwest corner appears to be smashed.
Bruna NightGuard
|
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Bruna's darkvision senses and general perceptiveness leads her to call out
That fountain be a trap. If you get within 5 feet of it, something'll trigger. We can go around the edge of the room.
Can Bruna tell what kind of skills would be able to disable this trap? Borkhinha's thievery?
Slorol Nutflush
"I don't know if you can get close enough to disable it, Merisiel - if you can't, I can try and shoot the mechanism from here," Slorol says as he pats his shortbow.
Cherem Choombolat
Choombolat purses his lips.
"Well spotted, Miss Bruna. In fact I may be able to bypass this trap without the risk of attempting to disarm it. At least if whatever is glittering at the bottom is our object."
The wizard gives the fountain a studious look.
"But I recommend that you stand well clear in case the retrieval also triggers the trap."
He spreads his arms wide in a gesture of welcome and invocation and begins a deep, sonorous chant to summon the item or items to himself.
I'll try to snag whatever it is with Mage Hand without getting too close.
Slorol Nutflush
Slorol has seen enough action movies to know how this works. He aims his gun bow and shoots the lock trap.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Deadly?: 1d10 ⇒ 2
Cherem Choombolat
Choombolat contemplates his results.
"Well, it appears continuing that way would take a while. And I suppose the choice between a long half-day's work and a quick risk to life and limb is hardly a choice at all, is it?"
He stands back and lets his martially and/or mechanically inclined companions take their shot at breaking and/or disabling the mechanisms.
GM Mauve
Half a day was slight exaggeration. There's just a lot of shiny object down there, and Mage Hand may not be able to pick up them all.
Slorol lines up his shortbow. An arrow flies right at the mechanism (which one do you aim at? The corners (i.e. the mechanisms that need to be disabled) or the mermaid?
Either way, Slorol's arrow bounces right off the trap fountain.
Bruna NightGuard

Why don't we just go around the trap fer now? We can come back later after the main threat is taken care of. Bruna suggests.
