Admittedly, that makes sense. The harpy's captivating song is supernatural, of course, but there's some truth to the idea of a bard countering something like that. Mind you, most such effects that have saves are probably supernatural, I think...
Aganhei GM |
I'll give it another couple hours before botting Teruko.
Riftun |
Torra also gets their +5 to hit from BAB and Dex~
So that should be a 22 to hit :)
EDIT: Oh wait but I think, due to initiative order, Torra won't get Combat Advice until their NEXT turn so maybe just a 20 to hit >.>'
Wanna be extra sure we hit it just in case Aganhei rules the feathery little jerk has partial cover.
Also Riftun has no time for Basic Bs~ (Basic CorBIES obviously)
Torra Voliokerdam |
I don't know why I keep forgetting to add my +5 to attacks...? Thanks for spotting that! And yes, I expect it will have some cover, fortunately due to Precise Shot Torra takes no penalty for making ranged attacks into melee.

I do not know if it would help you Torra, but what works for me is to have a template ready in my character profile with the more usual bonuses to avoid forgetting stuff and speed up posting. That way you only need to add flying modifiers like combat advice or bless (I try to write down those at the end of my post so I can go to the previous one and copy it, to avoid forgetting about those ones).
You can see how I do it in Yuto's profile, just below Offense, or Holg for a higher level character with more options.
After leveling up or equipping new items you have to edit it, but overall it saves a lot of time, specially if you post from a phone.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
Sorry, we had plans Monday and they left me more exhausted than I was expecting. I'm back now.
Aganhei GM |

Plus, Torra wouldn't get the Bardic Performance until next round, either, as the former one was focused on the mobat. So 19, by my count (though I may be wrong, as Riftun's math would indicate that should be 18,) which... may hit! Or not. Given that she it does have cover from everyone except Teruko at the moment.
That will change once Teruko retreats, but then Yuto will step up, so... soft cover!
EDIT: Welcome back, Teruko!
I may also have made our ghost corby friend a bit powerful, given her tactics... but we'll see. I think that when she's not in her best position (namely, sneak attacking), she'll probably be... not easy, but at least somewhat manageable.
Riftun |
The math was 20 pretty sure >.>' since Torra didn't calculate in my Bardic Performance in their calculations either.
Just making sure you are still keeping my immediate actions in mind too Aganhei. Specifically Timely Inspiration~
Aganhei GM |
Oh, shoot. I've forgotten that... though in this case, I'll let you save your spell, because it wouldn't have changed the result. I'll try to keep it in mind in the future.
Aganhei GM |
I'll give Elvina another hour or two before I bot her.
Aganhei GM |
No, I'm sorry too, I'll try to be more patient. I get anxious too easily in this regard.
Aganhei GM |
At this point, I will say that if we were doing XP-based leveling, there'd be a little side mission, where you folks would go around finding clues as to what happened to Brinewall twenty-four years ago, as you made your way through. You'd get a nice little sum of XP for each clue you discovered, and that would be that.
As we're not doing XP leveling, I haven't decided what, if anything, your reward will be for investigating more thoroughly and figuring out what happened to Brinewall, but the clues will remain.
This is mostly so that you can RP your characters as curious about the fate of Brinewall, if you so desire.
Hirabashi Yuto |
For me the opportunity to RP our characters and discover the history of the place is good enough reward GM :)
In fact it is sad that in many games the very cool stuff that happened behind the curtains passes completely unnoticed to the players.
Aganhei GM |
I'll give it until either later this evening or tomorrow before throwing the doors open.
Hirabashi Yuto |
I guessed we want to deal with this door to the west first, although the idea of sneaking down into the dungeon unperceived and letting the corbies search us in the courtyard seems also interesting.
Hirabashi Yuto |
I am happy to delay for a more reasonable to handle block initiative.
But as Yuto won initiative against them, I do not think he is flatfooted against the corbies. Hence the Attack of Opportunity as they try to pass him.
Besides, the first corby got a critical threat on him :P
Aganhei GM |
That's fair. I don't think anyone actually would've missed if I hadn't treated him as flat-footed, either? Could be wrong. Anyways, you're right on the critical threat.
Confirm?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Yeah, the hits are the same, only relevant for the AoO this time.
Also, sorry Riftun for not attacking orange, but after they moved, I think in the current "photo" it is more important to remove black, so we can have a retreat back where we can defend more easily the group :(
Aganhei GM |
To be fair, the bless spell did run out as you guys were exploring the ballroom - she had cast it three combats prior and some change, after all.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Aw! The fourth 18 in Brinewall! If we were not in such a dire situation I would say I am starting to love the katana :D
Aganhei GM |
I mean, it's still helpful! Given these things' low AC and ferocity, crits are all the more valuable.
Aganhei GM |
I'll give Teruko an hour or two to post her actions before I bot her.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
I'm online and can post if it's Teruko's turn, but I didn't think it was. I thought we were waiting to resolve Yuto, Torra, and Elvina's actions.
Aganhei GM |
Crap, that's on me. I'm so distracted today. Sorry. Been a bit of a hectic weekend.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
No worries, I'm just glad I wasn't holding anything up!
Aganhei GM |
Oh, this will be fun...
EDIT: I moved Teruko so she has line of sight to Kikonu - it was a 5-foot-step, so everything else is fine.
Aganhei GM |
Also, I'm rather glad Teruko didn't hit Kikonu. He might've been rather more peeved. Which would've been bad.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
She wouldn't have aimed at Kikonu anyway; I just thought the idea that she was tempted to served as a nice explanation for her terrible roll.
Torra: Teruko will be moving back next turn, but you could have five foot stepped diagonally behind Yuto. I don't think our GM would have an issue with you mulliganing that if you'd like.
Aganhei GM |
Especially given that Yuto goes before Torra, that makes sense to me.
Hirabashi Yuto |
Yeah, I understood Torra wanted to protect Teruko, otherwise I would have suggested to take a move action to move away, because she would take an AoO anyway from shooting in melee.
Anyway we need a vertical column to block the corbies advance, so she is just doing that right now. If someone has a summon monster, mount or any other similar thing to block the space, we can reduce the number of attacks received and avoid them to reach the back. Likely some spell to control the space in front of Yuto and reduce their possibilities to move and reach our back would also reduce the number of attacks per round and defend the back without Torra having to put her lovely dwarfy face in the middle :D
Aganhei GM |
Mind you, they still could've gone for Teruko, if I had known how to handle one getting caught out by a failed Acrobatics check whilst moving through a friendly creature's space. But that was before Yuto made his move.
Also, to be fair, Torra's about as tanky as Yuto is against these foes, if not more so - they can only do scratch damage (if they hit, which isn't terribly likely).

Heads up that I'm away this weekend for a little birthday trip, so I won't be able to post Friday-Sunday.
Aganhei GM |
I'll give Elvina until the afternoon my time to post - I do want to let her post, and I know I've been impatient in the past, so I'm hoping that afternoon my time works for her.
Aganhei GM |
I believe it's a standard action to do that, though it does provoke. Mind you, none of them are threatening where I think Riftun would be.
Of course, my rolls have been insane. It's been what, four or five critical threats in one combat?
Aganhei GM |
Posts will be coming later today. Just... need some time.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
Riftun: I have plans this evening so may not get to post later, but if you say something to Teruko to snap her out of the mindset she's in, she does have a wand of CLW and a spring-loaded wrist sheath. I think her spending a standard action to heal Yuto would be better than Riftun trying to move up and give him a potion.
(I'm trying to roleplay her as not fully with it right now, but I don't want that to hurt the group as a whole.)
GM: my last chance to post today will be about 5 hours from now. Then I'll be out until tomorrow afternoon. Please feel free to bot Teruko if it's needed to move things forward this evening. She'll either heal Yuto or continue her attack/reload pattern, depending on Riftun's actions.
Aganhei GM |
Apparently the dice roller really likes these dire corbies. That's what, the fifth natural 20 on one of their attacks this combat?
Also, happy Saturday to you, too, Elvina.
Teruko Kaijitsu |
Yeah, I wasn’t expecting them to hit Yuto at all with the extra AC from protection from evil. Their rolls have been insane.
Aganhei GM |
At least none of them have hit with both their attacks yet. 3d4+3 damage is nothing to sneeze at.
Hirabashi Yuto |
I am not sure if the CMD in the previous Acrobatics check refers to Yuto, it has no impact anyway but just for the future, Combat Expertise is a dodge bonus and adds to CMD, and deflection bonuses like the one from protection vs evil also add up, making Yuto's CMD 22 for this round ;)
