Buddy, I just noticed (sorry, brain was mostly focused on Paizocon all last week and until now), but why are you not getting your level in damage with the weapon for your weapon specialization?
Joe sees the one she was keeping immobile die, so pushing the release she lets it fall.
The other fey apparently didn't like Joe's version of catch and release, but the fey's claws are no match for her armor.
Deciding that maybe she can get the trifecta...she tries it again.
Capture pole (to grapple): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 + 2 = 9 +3 is my normal to hit, +2 for being a skitter with multiple arms, +2 for weapons grapple ability
Though it seems lightning can't strike three times in a row.....

Why? Buddy is too cuddly to hit hard those nice creatures. I completely forgot about it! I was punching and punching, and punching... that I forgot to include it in the damage formulas :D
Scratch that. What are you talking about? Of course, I've been including the specialization bonus :P (had 2 more minutes to edit my last post :D)

Yeah....it should probably hit...with +12...but it didn't get rolled

Have you noticed that if you read: Guiseppelia Nandell Eve Shirley backwards you get: Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger! Coincidence? I don't think so!
Ok, it is actually: Yelrihs Eve Llednan Aileppesiug, but wouldn't that be cool?

If I had resources I would....but I figured that without Mujina....Buddy would need another person up front. Didn't expect Ayoka to run in initially. But Buddy is pretty hurt...and I could heal him, but it is probably better for me to either attack ranged, or melee. This fight could have went much worse if people hadn't saved....

"Is anyone injured?" Mossgrove asks with some concern.
A feeling of gratitude emanates from the trees telepathically.
Joe notes the trees next to her seem to be moving - a single bough lowers itself, shakes a bit, and two large seed pods drop to the ground.
Cover seeds
Guiseppelia Nandell Eve Shirley |
Joe shakes her head. "Mostly just dents and dings in the armor...I think that last hit--the one that might or might not have happened--got through my armor a little. Buddy here now....he has learned from the best--Mujina--on how to impose his face to the hits....and did a wonderful job. But it does look like he is a little punch drunk, and could use some healing. I make serums for him and Mujina...they usually go through 4-5 together in one of our skittermissions....."
Joe sees the tree lowering and dropping seed pods, and walks over to the tree. "You want us to take these...huh? Well, thank you good tree." She pats the tree fondly, and picks up the weird pods.
"Mossgrove, I don't know if the tree could understand me, but can you tell it thank you if it didn't understand?"
Looking over the pods, she smiles.
"Ayoka, Squizzer and Szama, you three don't usually get into the front line, so two of you might want these to help you with cover. I would probably take one normally, but I probably should be up with Buddy making certain he doesn't get any more concussions....."
Without the unknown cat like attack at the end...Joe was at 0/18 SP and 18/20 HP...so she would like to take a 10 minute rest, but should be fine otherwise. Buddy I am certain was an all-star, using his face to interpose on all those attacks--just like Mujina did. He probably could use healing. If Mossgrove can help, great. Joe will do some light medicine to help Buddy though
Joe walks over to Buddy, who probably is already on the ground trying to rest.
"Let me see...I can get the 'Hello Vesk!' bandaids out....and maybe the hydrogen peroxide...let's see...maybe a little gauze for your nose to help with the bleeding on there...and definitely the anti-bacterial ointment for some of those claw scrapes....and let me inject myself with a non-addictive-intelligence boost to help"

After the fight Buddy lies down on the ground "I just need to catch a bree...." and he begins snoring. He almost does not wake up when Joe tries to patch his wounds, nor when Mossgrove heals him.
When he wakes up he says
"I heard that sleeping accelerates healing effects but that was one skitter of a nap! I feel great."
-1 HP and full SP.
Szama |
Despite not having any wounds, Szama still feels drained after the fight wraps up. "Whew! Those guys were tough! I'm almost out of magic for the day, aside from the simpler stuff, of course. I wonder how complicated those weapons would be," she says wandering over and picking up one of the fey's weapons.
Did the fey creatures leave their weapons behind or did they poof out when we took them down? If the weapons are still there, what are we looking at?
Shifty |
The weapons they dropped are basic spined blades - d6 swords
You find a good spot to set up for a short break in the central part of the thicket. Here, you find that the wounded kinwoods leak a sap that looks similar to the sample provided by Ehu Hadif.
Mossgrove inspects the sap with you, trying to chime in with his thoughts.
You confirm that all the kinwoods are suffering from the same ailment, which is not a natural effect.
You confirm that the blight and sap corruption is magical in nature.
Mossgrove looks concerned as you all take a rest, "Thank you so much for your help in eradicating the fey, but I have deep concern about the presence of corrupted sap, this blight has spread since the last time I entered the thicket. I could really use your help to investigate further into the forest - will you continue to help?"
You safely take your 10 minute break

Mysticism, Mossgrove aid: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 2 = 28
Picking up one of the spined blades, Szama moves over to check out the sap. "Ooh...the blight and the sap corruption is definitely magical in nature! I wonder what's causing it! Maybe is something from the First World? Or could it be something to do with the trees themselves reacting to whatever forces are stealing their sap?"
She looks up as Mossgrove expresses their concern. "So...you're asking a crew of skittermander Starfinders for help investigating and dealing with a magical corruption that's plaguing your planet and bringing hostile forces to threaten your otherwise peaceful existence? Well guess what, nufriend Mossgrove! You just hit the jackpot!"
Guiseppelia Nandell Eve Shirley |
Joe gets up from a quick 10 minute rest and goes over to scan the trees.
"Now you trees I don't plan on hurting you....but I want to see what is wrong with you. I am an excellent doctor...though to be honest, usually a doctor to humanoids, not plants. I probably should go talk to that raxilite at the Society....need to brush up on my botany."
Life Science: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 13 + 2 = 23
"Hmm....you say it is magical Szama....well I can say it is not a natural effect. And all the trees seem to have the same ailment. This definitely seems to be fishy...and not like that Taco you ate at Absalom station Buddy...that was just foul...or was it fowl....anyway it stunk...and let's not talk about the indigestion afterwards. Where was I??? Oh yeah, Mossgrove, you have a Starfinder Society Trained Crack Team of Skittermanders at your service. As Szama said...you hit the jackpot."
Shifty |
"Thank you all for your ongoing aid! What you say is disturbing, and we must get to the bottom of it all"
With Mossgrove leading the way, you journey far deeper into the forest. Eventually, a building comes into view in the middle of a clearing - obviously a lumber mill.

Erm ... whatta we supposed to do with this? she squeaks. She then offers Buddy the thunderstrike blindmark rifle with the trailblazer fusion on. Here .. you take this .. maybe you can use this better than Ayoka. Ayoka use pistol instead
She then picks up a sword ((assuming basic melee weapon)) Or this

Szama is way too busy trying not to get the spiny blade caught up in her robes to keep her eyes open for whatever is coming up ahead.
Buddy Jabo |
Buddy takes one of the spinned blades and hides the shock pads. He takes few swings with it saying
"Ahah!" as he takes a stab in the air. Seeing that others are investigating and not playing with weapons Buddy joins them in looking at the trees
"They are so huge." he pats one on a branch
"No worries, Nufriend tree. If what Szama and Joe are saying is true, we will find the source of this magic and kick the sh.... seeds out of it!"
Then he follows the others.
"Wait Joe, did you say that that Taco was from Owl? That is unbelievable, I will leave a comment on Skitteryelp, they are going down!"
Buddy grabs the rifle from Ayoka and hangs it on his back. Buddy already have one of those, But if enemies get close I can't really shoot it :(

Joe pauses to make sense of the scene and the surprise of seeing what appears to be a lumbermill in a protected forest - but as she does she becomes aware of a strange sensation, a whispering in the trees - a psychic wall of pain heading your way!
You have mere moments for someone trained in Mysticism to divert the energy!
Szama |
Szama sees Joe tense up at the oncoming wave of psychic pain, then Squizzer reacts in an attempt to divert the energy. Drawn to help her fellow witch, Szama digs deep and focuses her own energy to help withstand the assault!
Mysticism (aid): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Szama also has the Spellguard feat, which would grant a +2 bonus to an ally's save against a spell/SLA. Could also just be flavor for helping divert this effect!
Shifty |
You press across the wasteland of cut trees before that wave comes back around and find yourselves at the lumber mill. There isn't any sound coming from the place, it is not currently running.
You look at the construction, it certainly didn't arrive recently - this has clearly been running for a while, at least weeks or months. The trees around have been simply chopped down and processed in the mill.
Mossgrove stares with shock and disgust, "Selling kinwood lumber is not only illegal, but to the people of Ghorus Prime, it’s like murdering people and selling their skin - I'm confused - this shouldn't be here and I don't know how we haven't discovered it!"
Mossgrove pauses before people enter and starts handing you back your gear and weapons from his bag "We're going in there and we are putting a stop to this!"
A quick check of the outer doors reveals they are unlocked.
Guiseppelia Nandell Eve Shirley |
"Mossgrove, how could something like this get built without anybody noticing? This has been here for months it looks like. Besides conservation people like you moving through the kinwoods, doesn't this planet have satellites that observe the ground looking for things like this. Also....doesn't the Kinwoods actually communicate to your race...and wouldn't they tell you about these deaths?"
Joe is worried about this....but is glad that Mossgrove gives back everybody's weapons....they all are better using the weapons they know and trust than loaners.
Joe will be right besides Buddy...probably not the best place for a medic, but at least this means she can stick serums of healing into Buddy if he needs one.

"I have no idea, this is all very unusual and highly concerning!"
The entrance of this building opens directly into a large factory floor. Despite being currently inactive, the conveyor belts are loaded with piles
of uncut tree trunks. The scent of mulch and woodchips permeates the entire area, undercut by the stench of rotting sap. To the east and west, two massive vehicles are loaded with stacks of cut lumber ready for shipment. On the southern end of the room, various other scientific equipment lays scattered among the machinery. Several doors line up along two separate hallways on the northern end of the room.
