Kit moves to where the vamp can see her and really turns up the insulting melodrama. The Charito puppet is subjected to a number of undignified physical and verbal insults.

But really she is just making ready to use the saving finale if needed. She really does not have much useful to do.

@GM I'm ok with absorbing an attack. Whatever would get me in the other room so that we are not all stuck fighting through the doorway.

Okay, Selune gets an image back.

As if time itself is somehow changing, you suddenly see that Charito is hit by Selune with a vicious claw attack and Armik is able to move towards Charito.

Charito then tries to slam into Armik and she is really able to hit him hard! Armik also feels very weak!

Slam: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 292d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Armik, DC 19 Fort save or 2 level energy drain. Please note that saving finale is available from Kit.

*

Armik then starts to flurry to hit Charito and one attack goes through!

*

Malaika again channels the holy energy!

Will Charito, channel resistance +4, DC 23: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 4 = 31
Will Charito, channel resistance +4, DC 23: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 4 = 20

"Nooooo ... Lissala protect me ... NOOOO!!" the Pathfinder Charito Menas cries out and burns away until only dust remains.

One final update for Mun; I realized he doesn't wear a cloak of resistance, so he'll grab this one for the remainder of the adventure. Pro evil trumps it vs evil, so it may not have a tremendous impact, but might as well use it.

Inner Sanctum

The ornate tapestries that cover the walls of this room almost disguise the rough stonework of the foundry.

Sarcophagi line the walls, covered in blankets and pillows to serve as divans.

An altar and a seven-foot-tall statue of a six-winged, snake bodied woman dominate the room's western end.

This chamber obviously houses the sarcophagi of the leaders of the Feasters of the Heart, and here they perform their most unholy rites to Lissala at the altar along the western wall.

After Vordrek uses a spell to open the double doors you suddenly see a larger room with five beings inside!

Three ugly spindly, skeletal humanoid with moldy green flesh, long talons for hands, and heads that seems to be mostly mouth.

Furthermore, you see a beautiful woman that is sticking to the ceiling upside down with a rod in her hand and a charismatic older man with a whip and rod in his hands.

Please give me two knowledge religion checks, first for the ugly beings and second for the male and female in the room.

Additionally, she casts another spell and black tentacles appear all around you!

A field of rubbery black tentacles to appear, burrowing up from the floor and reaching for any creature in the area.

Vordrek :

The ugly undead are ADVANCED TOTENMASKE.

NE Medium undead (shapechanger)

They resist cold (20) and drain charisma.

~

These are vampires!

CE Medium undead (augmented humanoid)

Defensive Abilities: A vampire gains channel resistance +4, DR 10/magic and silver, and resistance to cold 10 and electricity 10, in addition to all of the defensive abilities granted by the undead type. A vampire also gains fast healing 5. If reduced to 0 hit points in combat, a vampire assumes gaseous form (see below) and attempts to escape. It must reach its coffin home within 2 hours or be utterly destroyed. (It can normally travel up to 9 miles in 2 hours.) Additional damage dealt to a vampire forced into gaseous form has no effect. Once at rest, the vampire is helpless. It regains 1 hit point after 1 hour, then is no longer helpless and resumes healing at the rate of 5 hit points per round.

Weaknesses: Vampires cannot tolerate the strong odor of garlic and will not enter an area laced with it. Similarly, they recoil from mirrors or strongly presented holy symbols. These things don’t harm the vampire—they merely keep it at bay. A recoiling vampire must stay at least 5 feet away from the mirror or holy symbol and cannot touch or make melee attacks against that creature. Holding a vampire at bay takes a standard action. After 1 round, a vampire can overcome its revulsion of the object and function normally each round it makes a DC 25 Will save.

Vampires cannot enter a private home or dwelling unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so.

Reducing a vampire’s hit points to 0 or lower incapacitates it but doesn’t always destroy it (see fast healing). However, certain attacks can slay vampires. Exposing any vampire to direct sunlight staggers it on the first round of exposure and destroys it utterly on the second consecutive round of exposure if it does not escape. Each round of immersion in running water inflicts damage on a vampire equal to one-third of its maximum hit points—a vampire reduced to 0 hit points in this manner is destroyed. Driving a wooden stake through a helpless vampire’s heart instantly slays it (this is a full-round action). However, it returns to life if the stake is removed, unless the head is also severed and anointed with holy water.

GRAPPLED: A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler’s CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

Selune has to break free to follow Mun's command, so she struggles mightily against the black tentacles, hoping to pop into the corner to be ready to bite the nearest foe.

Actions:

Blessing of Fervor: +2 to attacks/AC/Reflex
Standard: Combat maneuver check to escape grapple

Combat maneuver (escape grapple), bull's strength, blessing of fervor, prayer: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 24
Combat maneuver (escape grapple), bull's strength, blessing of fervor, prayer, fallback strategy: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 33

Mun is able to escape!!

Black tentacles CMD is 25.

Selune does not manage to break free!

To escape a Grapple is a standard action unfortunately and you cannot use an attack action so blessings of fervor does not help to provide two attempts! :-( But 24 was so close.

Armik can hit the ugly beast in front of him only once.

~

The two ugly beasts attack the Pathfinders in front of them!!

bite plus 1d4 Cha drain : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 251d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d4 ⇒ 2

2nd claw : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 321d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Armik is scratched by a claw.

bite plus 1d4 Cha drain : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 201d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d4 ⇒ 2
1st claw : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 201d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
2nd claw : 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 221d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Trokkus can defend against every blow!

PLEASE ALL INDICATE YOUR active conditions in your header. Hard to search in posts. And please update the header if the buffs affect AC, saves etc. Thanks

Selune cashed in fallback strategy for the 2nd roll; it's a simple reroll.

I realized, though, that she acted early. I thought I remembered them on the same initiative in the first combat, but that's probably because of the carry companion spell, right? I.e. she appeared mid-combat, so was acting on Mun's initiative because that's when he unfroze her?

Also, I assume my spoilered listing of buffs works? Mun and Selune have so many up right now, they don't all fit in the header by name. I'm keeping the numerical stats updated round-by-round, though, and you can always check the spoiler in every post if there's a doubt about where the numbers come from.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Of course. Sorry! Selune is in the corner and escaped! Let’s make our lives easier. She is with your initiative count now. :-)

Question on Liberating Command. It says it gives an immediate action to escape and costs an immediate action to cast. By RAW, does that mean that she cannot use it on herself? I've read contradictory statements so I wondered if there is a ruling. If so, who is still trapped? Trokkus, Trokkus, and Malaika?

escape artist, heroism, prayer, clover: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 25

Kit attempts to slip away using her own wiles and activating her four leaf clover (2/3 uses left) but fails! Remembering how Malika tossed the last vampire around with those channels, Kit starts an inspire competence performance to help her (+3 to roll) and casts a liberating command on her as an immediate action (+14 to an escape artist roll as an immediate action).

4 leaf clover does not stack with the prayer as they are both luck bonuses, so she fails by 1 unless there is another +1 out there somewhere!

"You are the vampire slayer. You go, Malika!"

It is not your turn yet Kit. :-) But you, Trokkus, and Malaika are still grappled. Liberating command is an immediate action so you cannot use it on yourself outside of your turn but as far as I understand if you use during your turn then the first immediate action is essentially your swift action for the round and the second immediate action to get free as normal consumes your swift action for the next round. But please note that while you are grappled you would still need to make concentration checks.

Oh and the CMD of black tentacles is 25 so your escape artist check was successful. So you might free yourself, use liberating command on an ally and start inspire courage as you planned.

*

Just realized that the ugly undead have 2 higher to hit and damage as a CONSECRATE spell is active in the middle of the room (yellow area) so I will include the modifiers from next round onwards.

*

Vordrek is so close to cast his spell but fails ultimately!

~~ Ilan' reacts ~~

The male vampire is now looking at you with malice in his eyes.

"Milena, it would appear we have guests...prepare to welcome them..." Ilan says.

The female replies, "Of course Kosta, my love...come in guests, we're waiting for you to follow us ... to the grave!"

Armik 1, Trokkus 2: 1d2 ⇒ 1

The man holds the rod and casts a quickened spell and Armik's eyes become blurry!

Armik, please make DC 20 Fort save or face a blindness spell.

Armik 1, Trokkus 2: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Then he casts another spell targeting Trokkus and he his limbs become numb!

Trokkus, please make DC 17 Will save or face a hold person spell.

What if the spell is verbal only? Should I reroll her escape attempt?

@Armik and Trokkus, remember the Beacon of Luck will allow you to roll twice as an immediate action for your saves.

Trokkus resists the paralysis spell and tries to shatter the grasping tentacles with a holy punch!

I'll use up the beacon of luck (thanks Armik) and roll the Will save twice.

Will save # 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Will save # 2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

As an immediate action, I'll cast my liberating command to try to break free of the grapple (+14 Escape Artist bonus)

escape artist: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

I'll then expend one of my smites to use my Smite Evil Magic feat on the black tentacles. This is a sunder attempt vs a CMD of 15+caster level. I'm not sure if the caster was an evil outsider or undead; if so, please add 2 to my attempt below. In addition, I've subtracted two from the attempt on the assumption I'm still grappled (if not, please add that back in.

sunder tentacles attempt: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

Trokkus can resist the paralysis!

Unfortunately, Trokkus is not able to escape the black tentacles! Also his sunder attempt is not strong enough to dispel the evil magic.

So sorry Trokkus! You have to decide if you want to use the luck reroll or the liberating command as they are both immediate actions. So you still have your liberating command. Tentacles CMD is 25. And for the spell sunder the CL is 10 so DC 25 and it is an evil undead so you reached 23. :-(

I had to look this up too. The grappled condition makes no allowances for what components a spell does or doesn't have. I guess the assumption is that you aren't calmly standing there with your arms pinned, but instead you and the grappler are both struggling against each other making it hard to get words out or even form complex thoughts.
