”What is a Modron?” Avesska asks at the risk of sounding like a real...square.

The Mimir |

Assuming you take a room or a spot in the common room for the night; spend your 1 copper or silver as appropriate and take you level+con in HP back for the night's rest/rememorize spells
Little Lost Gear Spirit
The next morning as you get up, the commotion in the tavern seems increased. Glancing outside- you see strange metal creatures walking through the streets!
Image on slide 11
[Spoiler=Knowledge Mechanus DC 10, or Arcadia/Acheron DC 12]These are Monodrone Modrons- the weakest and most numerous variety of Modrons![/ooc]

The Mimir |

The monodrone looks at Glutton and asks, "We have temporarily misplaced the object of value into an inappropriate environment. Have you located it?"

Cheyanne Julus |

Knowledge (Mechanus) (untrained): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
With a laugh and smile Cheyanne says, "I know what that is! It's a...oh, right, Glutton-for-Punishment beat me to it again..." The monk still openly stares at the strange, spherical creature, unable to make sense of its strange speech.

![]() |

Power ate his stew with something between disgust and fascination. Although he'd never seen a rust monster, he'd heard enough about them to put them just above garbage eating otyughs, and just below rats. Still, the flavor wasn't bad and he was hungry so he worked his way through it without too much trouble.
Knowledge (Mechanus) (untrained): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
As Glutton addresses the monodrone and it answers back, Rankev approaches the creature and stares at it. "Hmmm. You know, I had never met anyone that could not tell me that it didn't just speak in 'yes' and 'no' in some kind of binary patois. That I can verify that they speak Common could alone get me published for the next three years!
[b]"Um, negative, my friend," he says to the modrone, trying to use simple words in spite of his new knowledge. "But perhaps if you describe your predicament we might be able to shed some light.
That might sound unusual to you but it has been a rather unusual day and I feel the impossible is now just commonplace."

The Mimir |

"We have temporarily misplaced the object of value into an inappropriate environment." the Modron repeats.

The Mimir |

Several of the monodrones have now gathered around you, and they reply in sequence:
"A Spirit of the Land" one says, but another says, "A nature spirit, and still a third says, "a soul of the plane."

Cheyanne Julus |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"That has got to mean something different here in the outer planes than it does back home..." says Cheyanne uncertainly. "And how do you misplace a soul? Are Modron souls clockwork gears or something?"

The Mimir |

The modron repeats, "We have lost an object of value into an inappropriate environment. It looks like a spirit of the land."
If you'd like to look for it around town, Perception, Survival, Knowledge Mechanus or Acheron if trained, or Diplomacy (Gather Information) would be useful methods

Gribblix |

"We ain't gonna get anything out of these boxes", Gribblix answered. "Hmmm." The goblin druid said to himself, looking around. "What would be a 'spirit of the land' in Acheron?"

Survival: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
Diplomacy (Gather Information): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
"You're right, Gribblix. Let's get looking around..." says Cheyanne as she begins walking around and speaking to the residents of town, asking for anything that might look like a soul from Mechanus...

The Mimir |

As Gribblix is looking he sees a strange and suspicious looking man entering a business. He stops at the door, looks both directions, then ducks inside, locking the door behind him.
Picture added on slide 11

The Mimir |

yes- you get the idea trying to explain it to them that these Modrons have VERY limited intelligence and range of what they can understand- they just keep repeating the same few things, before getting apparently bored and continuing their methodical search

Gribblix |

"Hey look! A another non-hobgoblin in town? And it looks like he lives here!" Gribblix points out to the others. "Think maybe we should ask him if knows about any portals on this cube?"

Cheyanne Julus |

Cheyanne looks at the man when Gribblix points him out, her expression more curious than suspicious, in spite of his appearance. "He doesn't look like he wants to talk to anyone much...should we disappoint him?" she asks with an impish smile. "He does stand out, and that's saying something here in the outer planes..."
The monk walks purposefully to the man's door and knocks loudly, her fist ringing against the (presumably metal) door with a clang that cannot be ignored. "Hello? We're not from around here and looking for a portal to...where are we going again?...well, off Acheron. Can you help us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The Mimir |

The strange looking man opens the door partway and stares rather credulously at Cheyanne.
"No, and if I did, why would I share it with a clueless berk like you?" he snorts before slamming the door.

Sense Motive DC 13: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
"He's ain't alone in that hovel. He's got some friends in there. Around some mechanical thing. And he's not keen on someone peeling it!"

Cheyanne Julus |

With a sudden scowl Cheyanne turns to her companions. "That's not a tiefling, it's a bladeling - I ran into a couple of rude ones like him back in Sigil when I first arrived. I think he must have whatever the modrons want, cause he and his buddies are definitely hiding it in there." She turns back to the door and starts banging it again. "Open back up! We know you have something that isn't yours - come on out and give it to the modrons!" she yells over the banging, loudly enough for most anyone nearby to hear...

Glutton-for-Punishment |

Glutton gives Throrgar a smile, a wink, and finally a shrug. "I think we're definitely getting involved in things that are none of our business! But I have a feeling that the bladelings are bobbing the modrons. If they do have the gear spirits we can always ask the spirits who they want to bang around."

The Mimir |

You hear a murmuring behind the door, and then, the sound of a lock turning and a shout from within, "Buzz off, berk!"
Shut and presumably locked door is at the star shape in front of Cheyanne; on slide 12

Cheyanne Julus |

Cheyanne glares at the shut door, her anger at the simple rudeness of the bladeling visible in her stance and expression. "He's hiding something, and in the wrong about it," she says as she looks at Glutton-for-Punishment. "I don't know much about this place, but if there aren't any police to make them behave like good citizens, perhaps its up to us...what do you think? Can you open the door?"

The Mimir |

Door is unlocked now and Bladelings do not react; pending player action for what you do next

Gribblix |

Gribblix gets on a nearby outcropping and shouts, "Ay! Mondrones!! Your 'Spirit of the Land' is in there! I peeled it!" The goblin points to the bladeling's hovel.
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 19

The Mimir |

The door swings open, the now angry bladelings unwilling to give up their prize!

Gribblix |

Round 1
The goblin druid was not expecting this turn of events to be sure.
"Mondrones! Mondrones! HEELP!!"
Gribblix runs to the right side of the door and holds his action to attack the first bladeling who comes through the door.

Glutton-for-Punishment |

An anarchic weapon is infused with the power of chaos. It makes the weapon chaotically aligned and thus bypasses the corresponding damage reduction. It deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against all creatures of lawful alignment. It bestows one permanent negative level (Core Rulebook 562) on any lawful creature attempting to wield it. The negative level remains as long as the weapon is in hand and disappears when the weapon is no longer wielded. This negative level cannot be overcome in any way (including restoration spells) while the weapon is wielded.

Cheyanne, next time delay to go after Throrgar - that way we could both benefit from flanking ;)

Glutton-for-Punishment |

With Toothpick held wobbily in her hands Glutton charges into the midst of the bladelings. She has a passing though, maybe they're so piked off because they can't every hug.
