"That's kind of the...of the...what was your Faction named again? Caring for the poor and injured is a good thing to do. What does your Faction believe in?" Cheyanne asks Glutton-for-Punishment with genuine curiosity. "Caring for others is a good way to improve upon yourself. Is there a Faction that is about 'seeking personal improvement?' That's what Irori teaches, and what I believe in..."

As the crowd sweeps up the party, Cheyanne looks to the enormous minotaur and his protective stance. With a nod of admiration she tries to act similarly, placing herself on one side of him and saying to him, "I'll help you try and keep the others safe from the roughest...berks(?)...in the crowd..."

Cheyanne will go with the flow, but try to do like Throrgar and place herself in the flow so that it doesn't get too rough for the others.

"Good question on getting back, too - I don't think I'd want to get stuck in Pandemonium," she agrees when he brings up their return trip. "I ended up in Sigil by accident, but I'm starting to like it...I think."

Cheyanne is, by design, a little dense. "Addled" is a good choice of words to describe her too. With Intelligence and Wisdom of 7 each she will ask lots of questions and get confused often, at least socially and in terms of book-smarts. I do plan on investing in Linguistics some, and her Charisma is good, so she might be an alright face eventually, but she will never be the brains of this party. In combat though I hope she will shine brightly. When it is time, anyway.

Rankev takes little solace in having a correct theory as the mobbing tide flows onto them.

Realizing that to fight it would be futile, he tries to stick by the minotaur and joins them in their flow toward the temple.

[i]Eventually, the living tide carries you to the crowded street beside the temple. As always, the majority of spectators refuse to enter the actual ruins. Whether through superstition or genuine fear, they’d rather not set foot on the actual temple grounds. Still, the view isn’t bad from here, and the acoustics produced by the tumbled pillars and partially standing walls allow the speaker’s voice to caw.

“The time of the Four Doors is at hand!” shouts a filthy dwarf standing atop a crumbled pillar. He wears the rags of a beggar, but his eyes are bright and clear. They look out upon the crowd with peace and compassion, and his voice doesn’t have the least hint of confusion.

“These are the doors that are gone but always here, present but rarely accessible, the doors to the unknown places,” he continues as the crowd grows even larger.

Picture of this scene is on slide 5

As you are moving about, you heroes drift toward a group of Athar
faction members who are observing the proceedings from a spot just inside the ruins, though not in close proximity to the dwarf. Among the six cutters wearing the symbol of the Lost are an elf (Coranthol), a human wizard, a bariaur basher, and a human female in the fine robes of Sigil‘s upper class.

“Where are the Harmonium bashers I sent for?” the elf
asks, scowling at a cheer from the crowd.

“I see a few gathering nearby, Coranthol, ” the female human assures him, “but you know they don’t keep a large force here in the Lower Ward.”

“That’s a soddin’ understatement, ” the bariaur spits.
“They won’t lift a mace or crack a skull until there’s a soddin’ army of them on hand-and that won’t happen until they can break bashers free of their duties in the other wards. ’’

“They’d better hurry, or the Lady herself might take notice,” the wizard adds. "I certainly don’t want her shadow falling on me. What do you plan to do with the dwarf when this is over, Coranthol?”

“Do you really need me to tell you that?” the elf says to
the wizard as he gestures toward Rankev. “You there, go fetch a
Harmonium patrol for me. ’’

@The Mimir - what is our guide, the mephit Zippy, doing currently?

Planesfinder Slides & Links

As you mill in the crowd, your guide Zippy is entranced almost by the dwarf's speech- he? (you assume he is a he) flaps his small wings and alights atop a bit of ruin and watches the preacher from that vantage point.

Dark Archive

Human Evoker 1| HP 8/8 | 1st: 1/3 2nd: 0/0 Focus: 1/1 | FM: 5/7 | AC 12/12/10 | F+1, R +2, W+2 | Perc:+5 | Initiative +4

'Meeee?

What's a 'Harmonium'? Is it bad? Is it good? Is it the orderly lawful power around here? Or is it another gang? Is this some kind of power play and they want to disperse this peaceably assembled crowd using violence? Do they have the right to do it? Are they doing it for their own gain or for the good of the community? Do they have the right to order private citizens around? Or do they take me for just some pawn that needs to do it because they are stronger than I am? Will they offer recompense when its done? Am I expected to ask for recompense first? Will they think me weak if I do it without any cheek? Can they really have power if they need another gang's patrol to solve their problems for them?'

All this and more runs through the dwarf's mind in the blink of an eye. His brain, unable to reach a consensus, requires more information.

"Why?" he stammers out.

Planesfinder Slides & Links

The elf (who you assume is Coranthol) scowls and mutters, "The stinking clueless! I tell you. . ." he turns aside in the crowd, grasping another cutter and giving him the same order, which he heads off presumably to do.

The Sermon Continues
Meanwhile, the dwarf preacher continues his speech. . .

“Who knows the dark of these doors?” the dwarf asks.

“Who has the power to open them? Only one blood knows these doors. Only one blood can open them! On the day this blood opens the Four Doors, the multiverse will shake and shudder, the Cage will be unlocked, and the Lady will cry out in anguish and pain!”

The crowd gasps at the dwarfs powerful words. A murmur of excited voices ripples through the crowd, but the dwarf quiets them with a shout. “This is no bob, and I’m no barmy from Harbinger House!” the dwarf proclaims. “See the dark of it, ’cause tomorrow starts on the day the Fourth Door opens!"

* * * * * * * * * * * *
As this is happening, Glutton-For-Punishment and Gribblex are forced towards the edges of the crowd. . .

More people push toward the edge of the temple property, forcing you a little farther from the dwarfs makeshift stage. You find yourself closer to the outside of the crowd, and surprisingly there’s some excitement even out here.

Something has the berks and barmies in this area rattling their bone-boxes, and it only takes you a moment to spot what it is.

There’s a dabus moving through the crowd. He isn’t floating above the jammed-together berks or even levitating slightly above the cobbled street as his kind is wont to do, Instead he’s walking - actually walking, placing one foot in front of the other and letting each touch the dusty ground in turn.

Knowledge Sigil DC 10:
The Dabus are the servants of the Lady of Pain, the blood what rules Sigil. They usually don't walk, they float above the ground, and they speak in pictograms

Knowledge Sigil DC 15:
There have been rumors about a Dabus fallen out of favor with the Lady named Fell in the pubs of the area/

A berk nearby shouts out “It’s Fell! Let me through! I don’t want to be near him when the Lady’s shadow passes!”

@GM can we get an image of the dabus on the slides, their appearance is unusual.

Glutton knows Sigil: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Glutton seriously considers the mayhem around her and the implications of Fell joining the throng. While she had never met the dabus she still regarded him with a measure of fear. While it was probably prudent to avoid him, it didn’t make sense that the Lady of Pain’s gaze would fall on him and catch everyone here as collateral damage. If she was going to send him to the Mazes she would have done so already, right? But then again there really was no meaning or reason to anything so it could happen, but even if it did, it wouldn’t matter anyway.

She explained to her clueless new friends, whom she genuinely liked, ”The Lady of Pain,” she crosses her heart out of habit, ”she’s the ruler of Sigil, she keeps the Powers out and controls the portals. She has these servants call the dabus, now Fell he, well fell from grace with the Lady. Lots of people avoid him cause they don’t want to hit the blinds with the Lady.”

Later when they had a chance to talk

Cheyanne Julus wrote:

Glutton answers as best she can, ”Oh I’m a part of the Bleak Cabal, informally the Bleakers or Madmen. We believe in nothing at all! There is no meaning to anything. Lots of cutters try to make sense of the multiverse but no one has The Answer. I don’t think you’d like being a Bleaker very much, at least not yet. But until then I think you’d like banging around the Godsmen.” Traditionally Cheyanne would have to become non-lawful to join the Bleakers, Irori has a lot in common with the Godsmen philosophy actually.

Gribblix fumbles, but Glutton manages to catch Fell as he is tipping.

He nods, and above his head the picture of a key appears. As he continues on his way, that word falls neatly into Gluttons hand- his word has transformed into an actual key.

A little bit away, Acesska and Throgar are standing when. . .

You may or may not agree with the dwarfs words, but his tone certainly is inspiring. You notice that the Hardheads are getting
thicker along the edge of the crowd when someone taps you on the ann. You look down to see a pretty female tiefling smile up at you.

"Here,” she says with a playful wink, “this is for you."

She hands Throgar a colorful calling card with a strange symbol etched in one corner. “If you ever need a trustworthy tout, ask for Kylie.”
With that, she slips off into the crowd and disappears from sight.

[i]While the dwarf goes on and on about doors and tomorrows, you notice a loud-mouthed having in the process of saying the wrong hing to a pair of angry, and obviously sodden, bariaur bashers.

“That dwarfs as barmy as a bell snail, ” the halfling shouts, poking an elbow into one of the bariaur’s muscular legs. “You’d
think he’d know better than to talk treason right where the Athar could hear him. ”

“Maybe he believes what he says,” one of the bariaur snarls.

“Yeah,” the other agrees with a loud belch. “What’s it to you, half-grown?”

“Halfling,” the halfling corrects, not noticing the bariaur reaching for their weapons. “I was just pointing out, my foul-smelling fiends, that you shouldn’t tease a vorr in its cave."

Also on Slide 8; this is in the center of where you are so everyone can hear it.

As she's talking to Glutton-for-Punishment Cheyanne sees the tiefling catch the falling dabus. When the key materializes out of thin air she gasps in shock. "Wow! How did? What? Wow!" she says in confused, but delighted, surprise.

Sense Motive: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3

"I don't know what all those words really mean, but that halfling is sure being rude. Even if I understand the dwarf less, that's no way to talk about people!" she says. "And it's probably not a good idea to insult people around here, either...should we do something? Or leave them alone?" she asks as she sees things heating up. "Back at the monastery I think I'd be getting ready to break up a fight, but I'm not sure I can here on Sigil...Are those ones really dangerous?" she asks her companions, gesturing at the two bariaur.

Cheyanne responds by cracking the bariaur with her fist!

Grribblix pulls the halfling aside, and cures him.

The bariaur who missed Gribblix steps over and tries again to hit him:
Club AOO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 miss!

While the other tries to strike Cheyanne!
Club AOO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 miss!

Turn Order:
1. Gribblix
2. Bubbers
3. Cheyanne
4. Throrgar
5. Avesska
6. Rankev
7. Glutton

Status:
Halfling: -2, unconscious, stable
Bariaur (red): -7

That brings up the whole party again to close round 2/Gribblix to start round 3!

Round 3
Sigil seemed to be with it's young druid as Gribblix zigged and zagged away from the enraged bariar's attacks.
Hissing, the goblin pulls his sickle from his belt and tries to disembowel the quadruped.
Sickle: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Dmg.: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Mimir, how many bariaur are involved in this slight altercation? :D Are there two of them?

Correct- two bariaur- I put the map of relevant figures on slide 9; let me know if you have problems editing- you can move your own figure

the other by standers kind of clear back a bit from the conflict itself

Glutton draws her cold iron dagger and swipes at the nearby bariaur, "Pick on someone your own size! Like each other."

Dagger, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8
Piercing, cold iron, plus sneak attack: 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (3) = 5

"Don't say I didn't warn you!" growls Cheyanne as she pulls out a three-section staff made of three 2-foot-long segments chained together and starts to swing it in a defensive blur. She strikes carefully at the bariaur who attacked her and walks carefully towards the fallen halfling.

Cheyanne uses a move action to draw her Sansetsukon.

Then as part of a standard action to attack she fights defensively (–4 to hit, +2 dodge to AC; her Sansetsukon has the "blocking" weapon characteristic, giving her an additional +1 shield bonus to AC). Cheyanne attacks while flanking with Glutton-for-Punishment, before she takes a 5-ft step.

Sansetsukon to hit (base +3, +2 flank, -4 fighting defensively): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Critical Strike Confirmation (19-20/x2): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Critical Strike Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Finally she takes a 5-ft step north, already done on the map.

"No" - is the only word uttered by Throrgar as he steps in next to Glutton, balling his fist and throwing a punch at the approaching bariaur - "Leave now, and this is over"

Punch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage if it hits, non-lethal: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

AC:20
HP: 11
Effects: None

Round 2
Cheyenne draws her weapon, but misses with her attack being careful to protect herself.

Throrgar punches the other bariaur.

Avesska and Rankev continue to wait. Let me know if you change stance- you can act at any time

Glutton stabs with her dagger, but misses!

Round 3
Gribblix scores a nasty slash with his sickle, and the injured bariaur collapses! Red is down

The remaining bariaur tries to club Throrgar!
Club: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
A nasty hit clobbers Throrgar on the head!

Turn Order:
1. Gribblix
2. Bubbers
3. Cheyanne
4. Throrgar
5. Avesska
6. Rankev
7. Glutton

Status:
Halfling: -2, unconscious, stable
Bariaur (red): -10, unconcious
Bariaur (other) 7 NL

Throrgar: 3/11

That brings up everyone against the remaining Bariaur!

Cheyanne weaves back opposite of Glutton-for-Punishment and suddenly stops spinning her Sansetsukon defensively. She lashes out with two swift attacks at the remaining conscious bariaur with a loud, "Hah!"

@Mimir, I think that attack misses - Throrgar's AC is 20 with the shield - in combat, I will always list his main stats at the bottom of my posts ;

@Cheyanne: Why do you roll so much stuff? :D

Throrgar deflected the bariaur's club with his shield - "No bloodshed friends. This is but a street brawl" - he added, noticing Gribblix and Gluton's attacks.

"I warned you to leave" - he grunted at the bariaur.

Punch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Avesska nearly stamps a foot in frustration. She looks about her to see if the Harmonium approach.

Round 3
@Throgar- yeah, I missed that you had the shield and went off the 18 on your sheet so it does miss

Cheyanne reacts, cracking the bariaur on her second strike, and dropping him to the ground!

End of Combat- Rankev, you still have your spell since she dropped him before you could act

The woozy halfling thanks Gribblix, saying "Here. and pressing a strange metal cube which Gribblix recognizes as a Modron cube into his hand- a type of complicated clockwork game.

Meanwhile, at the front, the Dwarf continues. . .

“One door for relics . . .” the dwarf preacher blazes from atop the broken pillar. The rest of his words are lost when you notice a young half-elf climbing onto a pile of garbage not yet collected by the trash wagon. The youth has fire in his eyes, a burning passion usually reserved for the enlightened, the insane, and the plain stupid. From his expression, the youth appears to fall, at least partially into the latter category.

"I believe!" the youth shouts not even letting the dwarf finish telling him what it is he's converted to. “Aoskar, I will
serve you! Garmundi, I will follow where you lead!”

At that moment, a huge basher displaying all the colors of the Red Death pushes through the crowd toward the youth. “You have admitted your guilt,” the basher proclaims. “I’ll administer the punishment. ’’

He raises his halberd high into the air, ready to deliver a devastating blow. . . .

Glutton quickly sheathes her chiv and says to everyone, "Time to go! Before the Red Death think self defense is assault and take us to the leafless tree."

"I am not aware of whom may this Red Death be, but I am inclined to agree with you" - Throrgar nods at Glutton - "Let us be off"
