I’m totally fine to wait a bit longer for some sort of resurrection sidequest. I’ve had friends who’ve had great ones for their characters, and it seems like a good way to develop Stayven.

I remember a post from the GM that he had something in mind, so there’s probably some sort of hook to be found.

Has anyone heard from Rorek55 about Tallarial Cyla? I was really looking forward to roleplaying with the H-Drow Magus.

Don't think so. I've run a game and been in a few games that Rorek55 played in and they ghosted the majority of them so I wouldn't expect too much.

I've got some notes.

Where is his AC coming from?

What mystery did he choose?

Where is Dukker from?

How has he reached 6th level?

How did he receive his oracle powers?

Where did he learn his herbalism skills?

Why does he worship Desna? If he is a "knight of her order", what are his vows?

I'd like to see his Fey Foundling feat addressed in his background.

When purchasing magic items, always use the cleric/wizard line for costs. Personally, I can't imagine ever meeting a Ranger or a Paladin who has Craft Wand.

How would you see this character introduced?

HP:51 | Bab:4 | AC:22 T:14 FF:18 | Fort:5 Ref:6 Will:4/11(Compulsion, charm) [When threatening target of challenge, add 2 to saving throws] | Init: -1 | Concentration +15 |

Chainmail, automatic bonus progression, 3 points of dex and a buckler

Life, although he has an architype.

He's Varisian, so all over the place, but he spent a decent amount of his childhood amongst the fey.

The same way everyone else reaches 6th level, a lot of hard work and praying to Desna.

As far as I'm aware, oracles get shafted with their magic powers the same way sorcerers do, except it's even more of a raw deal because of the curse. If that's not how it works in your world, feel free to elaborate, and I'll get right on that!

You might think this is a cop-out, but he's an oracle, so he thinks Desna told him to learn how the secrets of herbalism. Considering he uses his charisma instead of his wisdom, it seems likely that there's some magic involved in it.

Why Desna? He would ask you why you don't worship Desna. She's great! He is sworn to protect travelers, and freedom for all, as well as being personally sworn to sing to raise the spirits of others.

Fey foundling. If you're telling me that I can take a less crippling curse than pranked, and instead relegate it all to background fluff, I'm absolutely thrilled! He's not very bright, and has a fey-like approach to solving problems. Also he can't read.

Good news! You don't need to have craft wand in order to be able to provide the spell, so as long as you have a ranger or paladin on retainer, you can make wands on the cheap. But if that's not enough to convince you, I'll just swap them out for 5 scrolls.

He's a traveling oracle looking for a place to set up his waypost. He can wander in at any time and have it be in character. Whatever works best for you!

I'd like you to be more specific. Surely he was born in a particular place, he has traveled to specific places, and surely he has had specific adventures in order to gain experience. If he spent childhood years among the fey, does that mean he was in the First World? How did that happen? What happened to his real parents? Why and when did he return to the human world?

Sure, but I'd still like to hear something about what god chose him and why, and what Dukker's powers awakening was like for him. If Dukker was a sorcerer, I would want some story about family history.

I'm not telling you anything about your choice of curse. I'm telling you that the Fey Foundling feat has pretty specific flavor attached to it that I don't see anywhere in Dukker's backstory.

- - What are Dukker's vows as a "knight of Desna?"
- - If Dukker himself had Craft Wand, I could see knowing a paladin or ranger and creating a wand that way,but as is I'd like you to change the wands to scrolls as you say.

Ah! A blank check to write past adventures! I shall rise to this challenge. Dukken does not know where he was born. Nor does he care, what really matters is where he is going. From the frigid Land of the Linnorm Kings to the delicate political balances of Brevoy, there is beauty in the world that must be experienced to understand. Dukken took a particular liking to the Osirian desert, enjoying the warmth, but wanderlust took him away from the inner sea region before he could establish any real roots there.

Some of Dukken's most notable accomplishments:

Singlehandedly slaying a hydra. When asked about how he avoided it's regeneration of heads he responded, "I just hit it in the body until it died, and avoided the heads."

Biting a mummy because it bit him first and that is very rude.

Tactically retreating from an ancient Osiriani tomb that turned out to be filled with mummies after contracting mummy rot.

Surviving mummy rot long enough to get it cured.

Getting chased out of Nidal for being too lucky at cards. Despite being very lucky at cards, he actually did not cheat. In order to escape, he hid in a pickle barrel that was being shipped out of the city. He still can't get the scent of pickle out of the lining of his chainmail.

Befriending a Cheliaxian gangster by not knowing enough to be afraid of him. Decided that it was time to leave Cheliax after he slept with the gangster's wife, but in his defense, he didn't know that she was his wife.

Spent a good long time wandering the stolen lands. Occasionally, he would run into a settlement that had run into issues, and would lend his assistance however he could, be it providing healing, or fighting dire wolves.

Desna doesn't have a whole lot of tenants other than, "don't get in fights if you can avoid it." and "protect innocents."

Hopefully this helps?

Dude's a Kender! Maybe his Fey Foundling is cuz he has the Fey-like soul of Tasslehoff Burfoot! Seriously, the 'Biting a Mummy' thing is great. Only Tasslehoff! (Until now)

Well done Bender.

Ha! Loved the part on biting the mummy first. :)

Actually loved all of it. Great backstory

Its a good summary of adventures for sure, but it leaves his fey origins unanswered.

In either case, i'd like to see a full edited backstory in Dukkar's profile with all elements of his history represented, including his fey origins, his return to the human world, his oracular awakening, his adventures, and his path to the Bloodsworn Vale. Let me know when you have it finished.

Hey everyone, I'm not quite sure if I have the mental cycles to keep up the quality of this level. As you can see, it took me several days just to come up with even this character, and I think I must respectfully cede my spot to someone who can devote the appropriate amount of time. Thank you to the DM for humoring me and my cheese, and best of luck to everyone in conquering the vale! Until next time comrades, Explore! Report! Cooperate!

I’m afraid that I’ll be bowing out as well. While I enjoyed the setting, scenario and combat, I don’t think that this is the kind of vibe that suits me. While this is only the second game I’ve stepped away from, I think that it would be best for everyone involved to have a player who fits better. Sorry if that isn’t as eloquent as I would have liked.

For Sven, he will personally take Rei’s body back to their homeland, making this a good exit for him.

Thank you, and wish you all the best.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Are you sure? We're in no rush. On my end, I don't expect you to be finished with a new character on the order of days.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Well, if we're losing two players so soon after the loss of one and the ghosting of another, my inclination is to quit myself. It's fairly frustrating to be in a situation like this, I know, but I'm not sure what the other option is.

Do Tanu/Stayven/Portia have an opinion?

Wow, ouch.

It’s bedtime for me so I’ll not try to get into this now but, I just started, I wanna keep going — even if I have to wait for new players. But of course, the most important ingredient in a good game is a DM that’s really into it. Anyway, I’ll post more tomorrow.

  • Tanu Human Paladin 1/Cavalier 4/Battle Herald 1 | HP 46/46 | AC 23: T 14: FF 20 | Fort 9: Ref 5: Will 4 | Perception +8 | Init +3
  • Nisha HP 48/54 | AC 23: T 12: FF 21 | Fort 9: Ref 7: Will 3 | Perception +10

I am of a similar mindset to Portia personally - I grew quite fond of my new friends here, and I barely got to use him! I’d be down to keep going with fresh recruits or even start from scratch entirely with the same characters so we don’t have to worry about continuity. Obviously I’ll second what Portia said about DM willingness as well though, so if you’re not feeling it either then such is life.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Tanu -- if you're feeling like continuing, then you should respond to Portia in the Gameplay thread.

  • Nisha HP 48/54 | AC 23: T 12: FF 21 | Fort 9: Ref 7: Will 3 | Perception +10

Was planning on it, but then held off on account of maybe the game not continuing. Didn’t particularly care to get more invested if we weren’t going to keep it going. I’m heading to bed now, but will respond to Portia in the morning.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Well Tanu, I can tell you that when it comes to the fate of this RP, the ball is in your court.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

Tanu -- if I were to say that I don't plan on recruiting any more players, would you want to rebuild?

Stayven -- would you like to make a new character, or would you rather return as a ghost?

LE Chelaxian Wizard-7 (Abjuration) HP:34/ AC:13 (T:13 FF:10) | Fort: +3 Ref: +5 Will: +8 | Initiative: +3 | Perception: +7 | Absorption: 21/

I’m ready to move forward but, yeah, we could definitely use some new PCs. Of course, starting a roleplaying course with old Gyles, young ‘Hawk Eye’ and fat Orrend could buy us time out-of-game so we’re not thrust too soon into combat. And it can finish quickly with one or two posts so we can move on. Either way...

Regarding PCs and such, obviously you didn’t ask and it may not be allowed but I’d play two PCs, if dwilhelmi wants to as well and the DM don’t mind. I can build a no-CHA-no-social-Skills PC to be at Fort Thorn. Let Portia Porphyria-Jeggare do the talking for me while the other PC grunts through roleplay. Again, if the DM doesn’t want to recruit and doesn’t mind us playing two — and if dwilhelmi is fine playing two. Obviously I’d rather get new Players, but I know that can take time.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

If you feel strongly that we need new PCs, I can certainly get back on the forums and see what we can find. I'll make a post soon.

Human

Hm, I guess from a narrative perspective it probably makes more sense to just work up someone new.

  • Tanu Human Paladin 1/Cavalier 4/Battle Herald 1 | HP 46/46 | AC 23: T 14: FF 20 | Fort 9: Ref 5: Will 4 | Perception +8 | Init +3
  • Nisha HP 48/54 | AC 23: T 12: FF 21 | Fort 9: Ref 7: Will 3 | Perception +10

if we were going to go with a party of 3, yes, I would want to rebuild. However, I would prefer to get new PCs and not rebuild, which sounds like where we were heading anyway!

Human

So I think I've settled on a replacement character for Stayven. My idea is a ranged warpriest of Lalaci, the empyreal lord of rainbows, relaxation, and shade, though it's more in the vein of shelter from the harsh sun and rest for those weary from excitement or hard work.

Personality-wise, they'd be a fairly carefree sort, looking to find excitement and adventure in the Vale before settling down to their well-deserved rest after staking their claim there and make a place where any who need shelter can come to.

Mechanically it's an...interesting build, mainly for the fact that it's centered around using a sling. However, sacred weapon substantially boosts the damage on it, and there are a surprising amount of interesting and useful feats for the sling. Mainly, the idea of making a simple and often overlooked weapon into a viable option seemed like a fun challenge.

There are still a few kinks to work out, gear to buy, and the framework of the background to write, but how does that general concept sound?

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

It sounds good! It sounds like a martial character to me, focused on fighting and dealing damage. Is that a good assumption, when it comes to the recruitment of new people (as in, we'd want to find a divine caster and a skilled character in addition to your new character)?

A couple things I'd like to see as you detail it:

I assume minor gods have very small amounts of worship and aren't common knowledge. How did your character hear about Lalaci? How did they come to worship them?

How do you see them getting along with the other party members?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the rest of your work.

Human

Yep, fairly marital, though with some buffing capability as well.

Lalaci, though not explicitly stated as one of the gods of Magnimar, would fit in with the many Empyreal mystery cults. I'm thinking that my character was a wanderer by nature, and ended up in Magnimar and came into the faith that way.

I think they'd get along well with Tanu, though Tanu's bent towards structure, while slight, may be a source of some friction. Things might be more strained with Portia, with the as-of-yet unnamed warpriest being chaotic good as opposed to her lawful evil. All that said though, I see many of the azata Empyreals being permissive of most walks of life as long as a person isn't hurting anyone or impeding their ability to live well, and I think I'd try to stick with that for my character.

Human

Oops, that should've been martial. Damn autocorrect. A marital character would be a completely different and much weirder ballgame.

What? Half-Elf Writer 1 / Dancer 1 / Chemist 1

That sounds like a good first step towards religion :) Were they looking for salvation in a particular church? Were they lured off the street by a preacher?

....Yeah, I think we're ready to move to the next day.

(But FYI, it's Thursday evening and this weekend is gonna be FULL. Probably won't get back here until Sunday afternoon.)

Human

Casamir is my working name for my new character, and the general idea I have for his background is in this spoiler.

Background:
He's Varisian, and worked for a time as a glassworker and guard in a caravan, but he found that his life didn't have as much meaning as he wanted. It was safe and steady, but boring.

He found himself in Magnimar, taking in the wonders of the big city and doing some glasswork on the side to sustain himself. Lalaci, as a god of light and rainbows, has a decent following among glassblowers and similar sorts, and Casamir naturally found himself fall into Lalaci's faith.

After being initiated, his training as a guard came in handy, and he learned the ways of the warpriest and set to wandering again. It was mostly aimless, still, but now he rambled the Varisian countryside and took the fight to any who would impede the freedom of the common people, though with Lalaci's teachings making sure he had plenty of time to relax and take in the beauty of the world.

Eventually, he heard the call for explorers to chart the Bloodsworn Vale, and he leapt at the chance to see new things, meet new people, and make himself a place where he could truly be at peace.

As a whole, the party does not go around mounted I believe. Hard to know for sure because the party has been somewhat in flux. Tanu will always be mounted, Portia has a stated dislike for live horses and prefers phantom steeds, and everyone else is yet to be determined. The whole party borrowed horses for a recent excursion, but I took that to be a one time courtesy for the sake of moving past a story point quickly, I don't think that will be the norm.

ny group healing wands or potions, trying to figure how much healing Wulfgar needs to bring for the group. I'm going to assume when we split wealth that we will have a portion to provide group needs IE Wands and such.

Talia has a wand of CLW with 50 charges. I've still got some coin to spend on gear and am happy to spend it on other things if folks think there's a need.

Talia plans to ride a horse for transportation, but avoid riding one into combat if at all possible.

Talia's crunch is about there. I went ahead and took precise strike and outflank as Talia's skald feats (via battle scion archetype), so she'll be able to share those in combat. @Tanu, you mentioned taking outflank next level - I'm happy to change this feat out if that is still the plan.

Grand Lodge

Thanks for the info Talia, To be on the safe side I had Wulfgar load up on a couple wands. Hard to sell himself as a combat healer if he doesn't have a few goodies to lean on.

Ok will get a post up in a moment or two.

I haven't finalized any plans, and having outflank now would certainly be advantageous I would think, so I would say go ahead and keep it and I can pick up a different teamwork feat to share next level. I'll generally be sharing Harrying Partners so that my Aid bonuses can last all round instead of one-offs, but I have the potential to share other feats in addition in the future.

Apologies again for not posting Monday -- work was busy and when I did get some free time, I was just too damn tired to drag myself online.

So, ...Portia didn't post the typical "Hi, I'm Portia" post to the new recruits yet. I figured there's likely some real desire to get back to the action of the game -- so I just went straight to the, 'Hey, my vote is to go here first; what's y'all's vote?' post. Certainly I am really hungry to roleplay the 'this-is-my-PC / what's-yours' posts, but I figure that will come in time, and if everyone is ready to roll some dice, we can get to that sooner. Or, if some folks are still all-in on roleplay between PCs, hey, no-harm/no-foul, we're all right there and can do that pretty seamlessly.

. . . .

....By the way, I'm in Florida on the beach -- where is everyone else from?

Grand Lodge

Why thank you Portia :)

At first, I thought we had entered the fort at the end of our travels, assumable in the afternoon or the evening. But it sounds like we are starting out first thing in the morning. So Morning or evening? If morning may we assume we slept in our saddles and that everyone is well rested and at 100% spells?

That's posted at the very top of our Page -- before the posts.

But if you look at my text,-- it works out. I posted that in the evening I was walking around Fort Thorn with See Invisibility looking for an Imp that's been following me. So if you arrived then and went to bed in the barracks, you missed me. And, um, er,... yeah, this morning I got up and was completely engrossed in my spellbook and morning prayers to Asmodeus to see you.
(Or, if you did just show up in the early morning and had your meeting with Sir Tolgrith at 6:30 am -- it works that way too.)
