Were all those CLW hits directed at the hapless Ifrit? If so, that would put him up to 8 HP and conscious.

Were all those CLW hits directed at the hapless Ifrit? If so, that would put him up to 8 HP and conscious.
Wulthur's healing was intended for himself, but he would urge teh party to spare the ifrit and would spare a charge for the ifrit if that was the party's consensus.
| GM supervillan |
With the danger of the fey and the strange axeman past, you've time to mend your wounds and then ferry water from the nearby stream to make a fire break. The hovel burns away...
This takes only 15 minutes in total - please indicate what healing resources you've used. I'm happy for you to take the average on a CLW wand charge when not in combat, if you wish.
As you are wondering what to do next, a band of four gnomes rushes out of the forest.
"What's going on here?!" demands their leader angrily.
"Hemzel's hut is an inferno! Where is my friend? What have you done, strangers?"
The gnomes stop around 50 feet away from you and level crossbows - but they don't shoot.
No gnome tokens on the map at this stage, as we are not in combat.
Ninnic
|
”Calm down. We saved the whole forest from the fire. As for the hut, gather around. We are going to wake this ifrit up and see why he jumped us and where your friend might be.” Ninnic barks to the newcomers.
Cynan G Elberion
|
Cynan looks up at the gnomes, dripping wet and covered in mud from fifteen minutes diverting water and moving buckets, "I don't dress like this for fun. Give me a break." The crossbowman sighs and exasperated sigh.
"Wait, what did the atomie say? Cyflymder killed the druid and his wolf? Was that right?" He holds the bridge of his nose. "Would you know anything about that? Who is Cyflymder anyway?"
He looks around at his allies, "Am I saying that right? That's how the little trickster said it, right? Cyflymder?"
| GM supervillan |
Speaking of that human - here's a knowledge check you can attempt (if trained).
Wulthur the Bold
|
Boomer is an ifrit. I think our assailant is human.
Sorry, my mistake. If there was time, Wulthur would have loaned his wand to cure both his ifrit ally and the axeman to get information.
"Am I saying that right? That's how the little trickster said it, right? Cyflymder?"
"I believe that is the correct pronunciation, yes." Wulthur counsels.
| GM supervillan |
Let's say that you wake the axeman when the gnomes arrive, after you've created the fire-break. It'll take two charges from your CLW wand to bring him to consciousness.
"Cyflymder?" the lead gnome spits on the ground. "That fey is a menace to the Verduran Forest."
The four gnomes keep their crossbows trained on you as the axeman is revived.
"Uh? Ow. Oh, yeah. You've lost, mortals. Ha! A-ha ha ha! <cough>" He groans and holds his wounds.
"Who is that?" asks the gnome leader. "And what is your business here anyway?"
Boomer Forgehammer
|
Before interacting, just wondering if Boomer was revived.
| GM supervillan |
Summary of Party Status
I'll assume two charges of Wulthur's wand to revive the axeman, and another two (also from Wulthur) to revive Boomer, as Wulthur made that offer above. This leaves you as follows:
Ninnic
Cynan
Rasil, -10hp, 2nl
Wulthur, -1STR
Boomer, -10hp
Garsita, -1hp

Boomer rises to his feet, a bit worse for wear but at least alive. He looks to party and then to the restrained axeman that took him down. It is then that he notices that the group is not alone anymore and key's into what they are saying. "F...feel fffffrrree to have your w...w...way with thissss one, once we get the infor...informmmmmation we need from him. If you don't I wwwwwill." Boomer looks for the satchel, remembering that is what cost his so dearly.
Craft (alchemy) to ID remaining potion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
At identifying the potion as barkskin, Boomer realizes that he still is not feeling great. As the gnomes as threatening the group, he takes out a flask and his formulae book, paying little mind to the others. "Just a m...m...minute. That one bbbbbbbeat me up pretty f...f...fierce. Just nnnneed a little s..s.something before we go much further."
Spend 1 minute to prepare an extract. Feel free to interrupt if applicable.
| GM supervillan |
"Thaven" says the axeman on the ground, between laughter and hacking coughs.
At this point, either Diplomacy with the gnomes or Intimidate on Thaven would be a good plan ;)
Wulthur the Bold
|
Been waiting for someone with some social skills to make a post. If none is forthcoming, I’ll do it tomorrow, for better or worse.
Wulthur is not "someone with social skills", but can attempt to Aid Another. Have subtracted the 4 wand charges.
"I suggest you listen to my companions." Wulthur counsels.
Diplomacy or Intimidate to Aid Another: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Garsita
|
Garsita is untrained in social skills, but with a +2 CHA, she may be the best at such skills. I'm not able to wrap my brain around making a social post right now, but if the GM will allow me to roll and then the other party members to choose an argument, I'll do so to keep things moving.
diplomacy or intimidate, as party chooses, aided by Wulthur: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18
Cynan G Elberion
|
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Cynan aid, either: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
After Garsita finishes her grotesque and terrifying diatribe, Cynan chips in, ”Well, I didn’t get the bits in orcish but I can tell you that she is absolutely serious.”
| GM supervillan |
Plenty good enough :)
Whilst Boomer mixes up some medicine the rest of you crowd around Thaven, the fallen axeman. His wicked grin fades as he realises his situation.
"<cough> Dunno what you want from me now? A confession? You got it. Me and Cyflymder killed Hemzel, and I burned his house down. So what? Hemzel deserved it. That's what you get for crossing the fey. I learned my lesson, and Cyflymder rewarded me. Too bad Hemzel didn't take the hints. <cough> <cough>"
"Okay, I've heard enough" says the gnomes' leader. "My name is Boomroppel. I am a friend of Hemzel's. He was no enemy of the fey, but Cyflymder would not care about that."
Boomroppel addresses Thaven: "Where's Cyflymder now? Speak!"
"Gone north <cough>" Thaven answers. "Took a magic rock that Hemzel stole from the fey. Gone to the old druid circle with it. Gonna destroy it at dawn <cough, cough>"
"This is serious" Boomroppel says to you. "You came to speak to Hemzel. Why doesn't matter. Cyflymder murdered my friend and stole from him. Please, pursue the fey. I can give you directions to the stone circle, but you'll have to march through the night to get there by dawn, and if you're late Cyflymder will be gone and so will Hemzel's lorestone. Here, something to help you." Boomroppel gives you a wand. "A healing wand, fully charged. The command word is 'mandrake-root-soup'. Leave this Thaven to us."
Cynan G Elberion
|
”Forced march? Done that before,” Cynan hefts his crossbow, ”Best keep Ol’ Bessie handy.”
GM, my sheet says I have weapon blanch but Cynan applied that to his bolts a few scenarios ago.
The crossbow man checks his bolts, ”Fey. That’s cold iron, right?”
Cynan G Elberion
|
Then a thought strikes him, ”Right, so, fey is a pretty broad term. I met a guy once who saw a fry so damn gorgeous that he was struck blind. Said he could never look at a beautiful woman properly again.” He looks to the gnomes, ”I’m guessing Cyflymder ain’t one o’ them. What kind of fry is he? And his mates?”
Boomer Forgehammer
|
Boomer straps his earth breaker to his back. "Loooooks like we have n...n...no time to waste. My BBBBBoom Stick will take care of them fffff.fey real good."
| GM supervillan |
As the gnomes just gifted you a fully charged wand of cure light wounds, Boomer you may keep your extract and I will consider the party fully healed with the expenditure of 5 charges of the wand.
You follow Boomroppel's directions. As you go, you examine the sheaf of papers rescued from the fire. The manuscript is written in a cramped hand and a mixture of languages, some of it the secret tongue of the druids. Nonetheless during your march you may be able to piece together some useful information.
DC10
DC15
DC20
Or, one use of Comprehend Languages allows you to decode the manuscript, and you may open all the nested spoilers.
Everybody please give me 3 CON checks please - the Endurance feat grants a +4 bonus on these checks (this is for forced marching).
Ninnic
|
Ninnic will cast Comprehend Languages, wanting to know more about what the papers were. ”It says that lorestones are keyed to Druidic holy circles and there’s one not too far to the north. The Fey have been harassing Hemzel, threatening to destroy the lorestone. Another thing to remember, is to keep the lorestone out of the sunlight, especially when it is in the circle. Apparently that can destroy the lorestone.”

Wulthur considers the manuscript, sharing anything that he learns.

Still revved up by the encounter with Thaven and almost passing on to teh great destruction ahead, Boomer pushes through the pain, grumbling to himself as he goes.
| GM supervillan |
Ninnic: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Garsita: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) = 11
Wulthur: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Cynan: 1d6 ⇒ 2
As the night goes on, only Boomer seems impervious to the fatigue brought on by the forced march. The rest of you need to stave off the onset of much needed sleep with the help of magic - fortunately the gnomes' wand does the trick.
Everyone but Boomer would be fatigued by non-lethal damage sustained by a forced march, but the fatigue goes away if you heal the damage. 6 more charges used clears all of the damage, and you're good to go once more.
Finally, as the sky begins to lighten with dawn's approach, the thick trees, brush, and brambles of the Verduran Forest give way to a glassy lake with a small tree-studded island just thirty feet offshore. An improvised bridge of mossy logs stretches toward the island from the near shore, though some of the trunks have tipped nearly vertical into the water, leaving gaps along the makeshift bridge. Upon the island stands a circle of ancient menhirs.
Main map is now revealed. You're in the bottom left corner. Note that the map shows the tree canopies extending over the water.
Boomer Forgehammer

Boomer nervously looks around, a bit on edge from the long trek, "Uhh...I'm nnnnot sure I ll...ll..like this. Nat...ture makes me a bbbbit uneasy." He pulls out his earth breaker, using the large weapon to keep the greenery at bay.
Wulthur the Bold
|
"It would seem this bridge is our best way to the other side." Wulthur notes as he approaches it apprehensively.
"I have in my pack a measure of rope. Perhaps, the more nimble of you could make a way across with a line to help the rest of us cross over to join you?" he suggests.
| GM supervillan |
Even from the shore, Cynan spots two rope snares that have been laid on the log bridge. Now that he's pointed them out they will be easily avoided. But the slick logs will be tricky to walk over. DC10 Acrobatics, moving half speed.
Snares marked on map.
Boomer Forgehammer

Boomer sees everyone's hesitation to cross the bridge, so he holds his earth breaker in the middle to assist with balance and tries to move across the bridge. Unfortunately, he is unable to find firm footing.
Acrobatics w balancing pole: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Does Boomer end up in the water?
| GM supervillan |
Yes ;)
Boomer braves the bridge - but it's too slippery and he goes over, landing in the water with a <SPLASH!>
The calmness of the lake is disturbed...
DC10 Swim check to stay afloat or make progress
Boomer Forgehammer
|
Boomer flails around in the the water, a much maligned substance for him. Somehow, his flailing moves him forward a bit, towards solid ground, but away from the others.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Ninnic
|
”Im definitely going to need a rope to guide me if I’m expected to cross that thing. I’m not good at balancing and I’m even worse at swimming,” the rat folk grumbles not wanting to get his fur wet.
| GM supervillan |
Boomer makes a little progress across the lake Swim is at 1/4 landspeed per successful check (move action) or 1/2 landspeed (full round)
Cynan takes the lead with the rope and starts crossing the logs...
The rest of you can wait for Cynan - it'll take 2 more Acrobatics checks for him to get across. Wulthur has the other end of the rope in case Cynan slips.
| GM supervillan |
If Boomer can give me another Swim check and Cynan two more Acrobatics checks we can go from there.
Cynan G Elberion
|
Cynan starts to wobble, tries to speed up so that his momentum will help but instead just gets more and more wobbly until, "Woah, woah, wooaaah," he falls into the water with a splash.

After moving a considerable distance, Boomer is unable to maintain the little bit of buoyancy he was able to achieve and slips beneath the surface.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
| GM supervillan |
Although there are no enemies on the map I am going to put you in initiative now, because Boomer is in danger of drowning (albeit the danger is slight with friends around).
Boomer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Garsita: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20

As Boomer struggles against the water, he sinks to the bottom of the waterway until he feels the firmness of the ground on his feet. He immediately stops struggling and keeps moving ahead.
Does Boomer need to roll to climb out at the opposite shore? He still has movement and a standard left.
| GM supervillan |
DC15 Climb check Boomer, and 10 feet to go up which will need two Climb checks total (or one accelerated climb). So you can walk to the shore and then make one climb check this round.
