You both recognize the items held by the six women as representing the six suits of a Harrow deck. This is further reinforced by the contents of the case: a simple and well-worn Harrow deck. As soon as it's opened, a sudden wind blows through the room, causing the cards to fly into a vortex near the ceiling in the north corner of the room for a moment before they flutter to the floor. All of the cards land facedown except for the Midwife (representing the arrival of new life or new information), which lands up on the ceiling in strange violation of gravity.
Usawoti
|
Feeling the sudden wind blow through the room, Usawoti shudders, speaking softly, "Well, we're here, anyone going to say anything else?"
Scratching his head as the cards fly about and land, Usawoti looks towards his friend and shrugs. "I wouldn't think you'd see much stranger than all the fluttering cards landing facedown." He points up towards the 'Midwife' "Except maybe for that."
Considering the card for a moment, he shrugs, "Though a little new information would be handy about now."
Does the 'midwife' pertain to a specific suit?
| Torsten Runeforger |
"I'm really not sure I understand." Torsten muttered. "But I suppose we'll figure it out as it comes, aye? Let's keep moving. Do a once over of this floor to see if we can find the mage, and then we get out."
Usawoti
|
Having started to move over towards the statue with the 'star' Usawoti hears the voice again. Looking towards the ceiling he asks Torsten, "Why do you think the 'Midwife' is fluttering against the ceiling like that?" Assuming it's some sort of clue, he furrows his brow. "What do you suppose is right above this chamber?"
As he asks his question he carefully observes the statue with the 'star' wondering if there could be a 'good' prisoner held in the room above them.
Yeah taking '10'(35/42) on perception looking at the statue.
| Torsten Runeforger |
"I don't know the answer to either. But we are going to find out. We head up, to the room above this chamber." Torsten said, agreeing to his friend's suggestion.
| Torsten Runeforger |
He was just about to turn to leave when he stopped and squinted, looking up at the ceiling. "Lad. Can ye still fly? Because look. See where the card is flying? The stone is smoother than the rest of the ceiling. The stone itself has been altered. If ye can get up there to take a look...?"
Usawoti
|
Turning from the statue Usawoti looks up to the ceiling. Shaking his head he answers, "No it's a once a day thing." He shrugs, "I've got a rope and a travelers any-tool we can use as a grapple. Why don't I blast a hole in the ceiling there and we climb up?" Not waiting for an answer he lifts his bone ring pointing it a t the card. Realizing he should give some warning he calls out, "Ok miss midwife or whoever you are, we're coming up, stay back from the shaped stone." Commanding the ring "വിനാശകരമായ സ്ഫോടനം" he fires the destructive blast at the ceiling.

Torsten nodded, impressed with the quality of the masonry. ”Aye.”
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
You take the stairs in the main tower up to the top floor. Once there, you pass through the main attic and make your way to a room packed with old and dusty odds and ends from a century of the keep's history. The clutter in the room includes old clothes, toys, tools, pieces of furniture, lamps, extra lumber, and broken tools. You can barely make out a door in the northeast corner of the room, almost completely hidden from view by the veritable mountain of clutter.
Unless you have another method, hand-clearing a path to the door will take approximately an hour.
| Torsten Runeforger |
Would it be possible to just smash his way through it, with his DR protecitng him from the avalanche of splinters and the like?
| Torsten Runeforger |
”Right.” Torsten said. ”This is going to be loud…” He took a deep breath as he took a step back, giving him the space he needed to literally charge through the debris in their way.
Usawoti
|
Turning from the game room Uawoti followed Torsten up stairs, keeping a keen eye out for any enemies. Seeing the room filled with old dusty odds and ends, he furrowed his brow. Knowing what Torsten had in mind when the dwarf said 'this is going to be loud' he nods, "I'll keep an eye out for trouble." Turning his back towards the charging dwarf, he watched for any other reactions. Occasionally looking over his shoulder he waited for the dust to clear then followed his friend through the destroyed stuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the devils, I didn't remember specifically that they had spell resistance, and worse, I don't remember if that includes channeled negative energy :(
Remembering that the winged creatures had some sort of resistance to his magic, Usawoti couldn't remember how they responded to negative energy. Lifting his bone ring he points it at the devil, commanding "നെഗറ്റീവ് ഊർജ്ജം" Channeling a ray of negative energy at the flying creature.

Usawoti
|
Smiling as the devil drops from the air, Usawoti walks towards the body, picking up the bow. Turning he shows the bow to Torsten as he walks towards the room, the odd pathway cleared. "You don't see one of these everyday."
Notting the tunnel through the room of destroyed stuff, his smile widens. "That's one way to clear a path, what did you find?"
| Torsten Runeforger |
"Well done." Torsten said, glancing at the devil and the very expensive bow that was retrieved. "Knew ye could handle it." He added, as he looked into the room, considering how to answer Usawoti's question. What did he find?
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
The room is dusty and has been abandoned for a while, but it shows an unexpected level of comfort. A large bed sits in a corner, and there are a nice table with two chairs, a desk with a stuffed armchair, a lamp, and a stove. On the northwest wall is a glass showcase full of rare decks of cards. Within the showcase are at least fifty different decks, all displayed with care and competence, usually with several pieces laid face-up and with a matching leather, ivory, or wooden case. What looks like a partially-melted stone trapdoor sits in the floor in the northern corner, and a chamber pot sits behind a partially-folded screen to the south.
A few moments after you enter, a furtive scratching sound comes from one of the walls, and a second later, a well-hidden door opens a crack.
Usawoti
|
Strangely enough, Usawoti has 'scent' from ranger talent. Without getting too close, does the chamber pot have any odor from being used lately?
Initially not touching anything, Usawoti eventually drags a finger across the table. Holding it up, showing the dust collected on the tip of the finger. "Doesn't seem like anyone's been here for a long time."
Hearing the furtive scratching sound, He sighs, "I'll wager we're dealing with ghosts or undead." Seeing the well-hidden door open a crack, he nods towards it. Moving to the door, he opens it further looking inside.
Will his 'deathwatch eyes' identify ghosts as well as undead?
| Torsten Runeforger |
”Thought we were done with ghosts.” The dwarf growled, his voice serious. Without further comment he followed Usawoti in…
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
@Usawoti: Ghosts are undead, so your deathwatch eyes will identify them.
This dusty room contains a bed, a large armchair, a one-legged table, and a silver lantern. On the table, near the lantern, sits a dusty harrow deck in an elegant redwood case. As you enter the room, the temperature drops by several degrees. A few moments later, a strange, roiling mist rises from the cards in the case, causing them to flutter and dance on the table as if in a small breeze. The mist takes on a vaguely humanoid form - that of an older man with horns on his brow. Seeing you, he reaches out and whispers in a gravelly voice, "Bring me my bones... they rot so far below... bring me my bones... I can help you if you bring me my bones..." The figure then fades away.
A minute or so after the ghost vanishes, each of you feels a slight tug from the harrow card you found before storming Castle Korvosa. The direction of this tug remains consistent regardless of your position, as if it's trying to lead you that way. It seems Zellara's become able to get involved....
Usawoti
|
A chill running down his spine, as much from the sense of dread as the drop in temperature, Usawoti steels himself as the room manifests signs of a poltergeist. Not surprised when the mist takes on form, he listens to it's request. As the tiefling fades he turns to Torsten asking, "You think we can avoid the guards long enough to get below?"
As the card begins to tug at his pouch he gives a wry smile, "It seems Zellara thinks we should get involved."
He gestures back the way they came. "Should we use the wide main stairs where there is plenty of room to fight or go back out to the narrow tower where we ascended in the first place?"
| Torsten Runeforger |
"Nay idea." Torsten answered. When his friend gestured back, he stood for a moment in contemplation. "Well, we can't turn back now. The narrow tower it is, then. Harder for any enemies we run into to use numbers against us."
| Your Benevolent Dictator |
As you make your way to the narrow tower, another devil materializes before you - one with a crown of deadly horns and wielding a vicious-looking spiked chain. As he dramatically whirls his weapon around him in an impressive display of skill, an imperious voice resounds in your minds. "I am Mavrokeras. Prepare to meet your doom!"

His brow furrows for a brief moment, as if in frustration.

|
Sorry, got distracted.
Raising an eyebrow at the devil, Usawoti, turns and looks at Torsten. Nodding towards the devil he smiles, "Our doom he says." Raising his fist he replies, "You should have looked the other way, or will you just reform in hell so you don't think you need to be worried?"
Curious to see what the creature's defenses are he commands the bone ring, "വിനാശകരമായ സ്ഫോടനം" Sending a destructive blast at the thing.
Destructive blast, extend range, focused blast, crafted blast: bludgeoning

Sometimes having a heigh difference was useful, and this was one of those times. Usawoti's blast went out, just as Torsten moved forward. The bolt sailed harmlessly over Torsten's head, and impacted with much, much greater harm. The dwarf went to work, using sheer brawn to knock the demon to the ground so that he could pummel it back into the depths from which it came.

The devil found itself in a very precarious position. It was prone on the ground, with Torsten atop of it. He had his knees locked around the devil's midsection, so that it could not get up or roll away, and given that it was on its back, it had no space to really swing. While its claws should have torn right through the dwarf, his tattoos made his skin as hard as steel, and the claws proved to be no more effective than a human's finger nails. The dwarf's fists, though? They proved to be more than adequate for the job. While Torsten's first attempt to attack failed as he was forced to keep the devil from squirming out, the subsequent attacks came down one after another, and did not stop until the devil's face was unrecognizable and all movement stopped.

He then feints with the hammer, addressing the devil, "But you two will need to go back where you came from." Shifting the weight of the hammer he attacks the devil, following up with repeated blows.
