Feeling the air pass by him from the attack, Usawoti realizes by the sound of movement the creature was no longer behind him. Knowing he can afflict the living or the dead, he realizes he'd relied too long on his magical glasses. Asking his dwarven friend, "Torsten, do you have anyway of telling if the creature is alive or dead?"
Just a little conversation while trying to decide the best way to deal with this.

"Dead." Torsten said. "Can sense when living things are around me. Didn't feel shyt when it just attacked. Now...I need to concentrate." The dwarf closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and fell into a fighting stance. It was much more fluid than how he normally thought, and it was almost comical given how bulky he was. But if there was going to be a chance of surviving this, he had to try...
Swift action for 3combat feats. Getting this:
Prerequisite(s): Blind-Fight, Perception 5 ranks.
Benefit(s): While you are using this style, you gain a number of benefits whenever you are blinded or unable to see (including when you wear a blindfold or close your eyes). Under such circumstances, you do not take any penalties on Strength– or Dexterity-based skill checks due to blindness. In addition, you gain a +4 bonus on hearing- and smell-based Perception checks and gain the scent special ability with a range of 10 feet; if you already have scent, the range of your scent ability increases by 10 feet instead. Having this feat counts as having 10 ranks in Perception for the purpose of satisfying the prerequisites of the Improved Blind-Fight feat, as well as any feat that lists Improved Blind-Fight as a prerequisite.
Improved Blind Fight
Your melee attacks ignore the miss chance for less than total concealment. You may still reroll your miss chance percentile roll for total concealment. If you successfully pinpoint an invisible or hidden attacker within 30 feet, that attacker gets no advantages related to hitting you with ranged attacks. That is, you don’t lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and the attacker doesn’t get the usual +2 bonus for being invisible.
No martial flexibility left! But now have sent 10ft, ignore all penalties for fighting blind, get +4 hearing and smelling for perception checks, and enemy has no advantages for being invisibile! To include hiding from pinpointing it

Torsten had made contact with whatever it was they were fighting. That was good...it meant that he knew where it was. With his eyes closed he allowed himself a smile, as he put his mind and body towards destroying the creature. He knew that it could be damaged, and that meant it could be destroyed. Therefore, there was nothing for him to fear. Or at least that is what he told himself.

Feeling the unknown creature strike him, Usawoti feels a rush of uncontrollable fear wash over him. Backing away from the combat, he blurts out, "We must flee!" Turning he runs towards where he believes the door would be.
Usawoti |
Hearing the body 'thud' Usawoti realizes the magical fear is gone. Using his hammer as a cane, he finds his way to the southern door, "I wonder what the creature was guarding?" As he finds the door, he turns the latch, hoping there is no trap on it.
Torsten Runeforger |
Torsten shrugged as he waved his hands in the air, as if though it would make the magical process of cleaning the gore off of him go faster. "Nay idea what it was, but it seemed to have magic that effected the mind. The second it died, ye stopped. Pretty horrific, aye?" He asked rhetorically. "And nay idea what it was guarding. But let's find out."
Usawoti |
Relieved to be free of the fear, Usawoti nodded his head in agreement with Torsten. As they enter the room with the dilapidated furniture, he's pleased they were able to find the keys. Holding them up he smiles, "Maybe this will make opening some of the doors easier." Nodding towards the opposite door he adds, "Let's find out."
Opening the other door Usawoti finds himself in a familiar hallway, near the stairs. Nodding towards the double doors, "We may as well continue on." Listening carefully at the door, then checking it for traps, he attempts to open the door.

Making a mental note to ask his friend about what sort of ink he uses for the tattoos he moves into the room looking at the rubble that was already there and the rubble that thrashing the iron golem caused. Noticing the composite bow in the corner he moves towards it. Lifting it up he admires it then places it in his pack. "That may be worth keeping."
He nods back the way they came. As they moved towards the door he turned, "Oh, and nice job on the golem."
As he exited back out into the hallway, he gestured towards the nearest door to the west. "On we go." Quickly checking the door for traps, he tries the keys once he's sure it's clear.

The door leads to a short hallway with several doors leading off of it in various directions.

Torsten looked at the room of broken weapons and shields and ruminated on the golem. As fun as it had been, it was dangerous. One solid hit from it could easily have broken bones or ruptured his organs. He had destroyed it quickly, but there was no guarantee of it. While he felt the urge to test himself, he reminded himself that violence was not the goal. It was the craft that he lived for, and it was shameful that he could forget that. He muttered an apology to Torag and prepared to move on.

Looking from the destroyed sparring dummies to his friend the dwarf. Nodding his head, he respected Torsten and knew testing himself against the champion would be a worthy test. Pausing he looked about, this was really neither the time or place, especially with the Kuthonite's in tow. They would clearly not understand and see it as a division between the two friends.
Nodding back the way they came, "Let us check the door we passed before we return to the first floor." Moving back to the hallway he checks the door at the end of the hallway near the southern stairs.

This oddly shaped chamber occupies most of the gatehouse's second floor. A large set of winches in the room seem to govern the gates and portcullises in the gateway below. Troughs run along the sides of the winches, just above a set of murder holes in the floor to the east and west of the winches. Arrow slits pierce the outer walls in several places, completing the room's defensive points.
We'll handwave the fight against the CR 6 skeletal guards. XD

I'm slightly confused by the stairs, do any of them go up?
Having engaged one of the skeletal guards himself, Usawoti was not able to enjoy watching his dwarven friend decimate the others. One they were finished he notes the defenses that would have been at the entrance of the castle. Nodding towards the doors, "I'll wager those go down to the stairwells at the entrance." Taking a moment he checks both doors for traps, then open them to verify they hold stairwells.
If any of the stairs go up we'll head that way? Taking 10(26/32) on perception and 10 (33/39) on disable device if needed.

The staircase ascends to a long chamber with inward-slanting walls, like an attic. Many old barrels and boxes, broken and empty, are stacked at the base of the walls. Perhaps it was the effect of the cursed castle that they were in, but as he strode towards the last minotaur, he thought to himself:
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of what is crafted. He reached out to the last minotaur. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for Steel is immortal…I serve the Forge Father. I-
Snapping out of it, he looked down at the wreckage that he had wrought and the dark thoughts that he had been caught in. It was as if the fortress was twisting what was good in him, turning it towards its own dark ends. It was a horrifying realization.

Threes and fours, I doubt if any of them hit :(

Sorry to hear about your friend, I hope he is alright. And yes, you got the reference. Cult Mechanicus.
The flame headed leader was completely focused on Usawoti. It ducked and dodged, weaved and parried, as the hammer and klar came at it again and again. This was it's mistake. It fought as if though it was in a fair fight. It wasn't. Torsten came in from behind, and put his fist right through it's back. His hand went through it's spine and came out the otherside. Ripping it free, he readied himself to continue ripping it apart if it remained on it's feet.

Usawoti |
Seeing Torsten hand emerge through the undead's chest, Usawoti knew the fight would soon be over. Nodding to his friend as the creature fell, Usawoti looked from the pile of undead minotaur's to the skeleton in front of him. He'd seen deadly shoanti, but nothing like this dwarf he traveled with. Nodding towards the doors, "May as well make sure there is nothing behind us." As he spoke he moved towards the nearest door, quickly checking it for traps, then opening it, with our without the master keys.
Taking 10(26/32) on perception and 10 (33/39) on disable device if needed.
Usawoti |
As they head back upstairs Usawoti considers what he remembers of the second floor. Turning to Torsten, "If I remember correctly there was an access to the northern portion of the fort from the battlements."
Retracing their steps, Usawoti heads back to the battlements and to the walkway going to the second floor of the northern portion of the fort. Keeping keen eye out, he moves up the walkway and inspects the door.
Taking 10(26/32) on perception for the walkway and the door, I don't remember if there were any other rolls needed to get to the door.
Usawoti |
Furrowing his brow at the magically sealed door, Usawoti turns towards Torsten. Having seen the dwarf pretty much go through everything else, he asks, "Any idea how to go through a magically sealed door?"
Usawoti has no knowledge on arcane, so any ideas how to deal with it?

Arcana: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (12) + 22 = 34
”Thats…a good question.” Torsten said. While he looked fresh enough due to his tattoos, he was feeling the drain from the day. His arcane reserves were low and his body was fatigued. The problem was that finding a safe place to rest, and the time to do so, would be difficult at best and deadly at worst. While he had no idea how to get through, his familiar was a different story. He hoped it knew as he didn’t think that he had it in him to brute force his way through this problem.
Torsten Runeforger |
”It isn’t a door anymore.” Torsten said. ”Been fused to the wall. Give me eight hours of rest and I can force our way through, but I’m too spent to do it now.” He looked embarrassed as he said it. ”Lets see if there is another way to go. Can’t think of any other way through.”
Usawoti |
Nodding in agreement, Usawoti starts to head back across the walkway to the door they entered. "We should probably rest soon anyway. Shall we continue towards the western portion of the fortress or return to where we left the Kuthites and the prisoner?"
Torsten Runeforger |
”Makes sense to find those crazy bastards. Resting here will be rough enough that extra eyes will come in handy. I doubt they’ll turn on us at this point. We’re still useful to them.” He said, choosing his words carefully. He was thinking as he talked. It was obvious by his tone of voice that he didn’t think that any of their options were good ones.
Usawoti |
Chuckling as Torsten refers to the Kuthites as 'crazy bastards' Usawoti starts to head back to where they'd left their 'allies' watching over the captive.
