I'm in the middle of moving houses. Posting will be rare this weekend.

From what I can see your original size does not change the effects of the spell, i don't have a firm grip on the overall polymorph rules to know if I am missing something that is contradictory.

I am not a guru on this one either. Here is what I found:

The wording is poorly written imo on the spell alter self. I assumed the mods to dex and str were when you were not already that size. An assumption that will prove true when we look at the school.

So, I looked at the next level spell Polymorph for context. Poly actually refers back to alter in one case, so alter is the base.

We can get the details by looking at the school.
Transmutation includes a table for mods on abilities including size that matches my assumption on RAW for alter. The actual mechanics and details are further explained in the next section subschools:polymorph. I believe that is where we need to be now and going forward. While you increased your HD, your attacks would be the bugbear attacks:

Melee morningstar +5 (1d8+3)
Ranged javelin +3 (1d6+3)

Please let me know if you think is not a proper interpretation.

Correction:
In addition to these benefits, you gain any of the natural attacks of the base creature, including proficiency in those attacks. These attacks are based on your base attack bonus, modified by your Strength or Dexterity as appropriate, and use your Strength modifier for determining damage bonuses.

Niu, the witchrow was 5hd, making your spell useless. He was about to cast ill omen. At level 5, that is two extra rolls to take the least of three. There is no save. Pretty nice for a level 1 SLA imo. He also had evil eye which is a nice hex. Flexible and a save still has a one round effect. That is what he was using on the party.

You now have more than enough xps to level up. Welcome to level 2. Let's roll hps as this is a survival/horror adventure path. The two alternative rolling methods presented are awesome. If this were not an exercise in survival, I would move to one of those. If someone rolls really low multiple times, we can cross that bridge when we get to it. Go ahead and work on your PC. We will rest and complete level up after speaking with Umble and Thoot.

Etgar and Niu are still showing damage. Did the party have any healing remaining the previous day before resting? If so, you may assume that was done.

Yeah. If we were resting, Agni still had a couple cures on board to use.

I gained a CLW for each of us with the level up, so we should all be full now.

Thanks; yeah - I just hadn't changed my stat line yet

So I envisioned these 1 foot fairies landing on you. Is that a fair assumption?

CG | Ifrit Inquisitor of Sarenrae (Immolator) 3 | HP 19/26 | AC 18; TAC 11; FFAC 17 | Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +5 | Init: +3 | Perc: +9 (Darkvision), SM: +9 | Speed 30 ft | Active conditions: NA ; Judgement - NA | Fire Bolt: 4/5; Judgement: 1/1; Enlarge/Reduce Person: 1/1| Daily Spells: 1st - 3/4

I'm cool with that. It just wasn't made clear that they were effectively grappling. Only thing that happened round one was that it tried to bite me.

If I'd known that it was going to ride along, I would have acted differently.

They are not grappling you. I envisioned them on your shoulders handing on to hair or whatever. They are diminutive in size.

To get out a grey area regarding rules, the tooth fairies are hovering. They do not need to roll for that as their skill is more than that DC. This will allow 5 foot steps like Agni did to have the desired effect.

CG | Ifrit Inquisitor of Sarenrae (Immolator) 3 | HP 19/26 | AC 18; TAC 11; FFAC 17 | Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +5 | Init: +3 | Perc: +9 (Darkvision), SM: +9 | Speed 30 ft | Active conditions: NA ; Judgement - NA | Fire Bolt: 4/5; Judgement: 1/1; Enlarge/Reduce Person: 1/1| Daily Spells: 1st - 3/4

Not to be a nitpicky rules lawyer (which I can be sometimes, sorry) but I would consider that grappling. At the very least, only for the purposes of avoid it, or knocking them off.

I hope I'm not coming across as an ass, but something like this can be a bit off-putting. I'd rather just get it hashed out.

I can be a rules guru on occasion, but that depends on which way the wind is blowing. I think we are good with the above ruling. Thanks for pointing that out. These guys could be trouble with the right rolls, so they should have no advantage.

Human Witch 3 | HP 9/16 | AC 13(17) T 13 FF 10(14) | F +1 R +4 W +5 | CMB +0 CMD 13 | Init +7 Perc +3 | Conditions: Mage Armor, Shaken

Perhaps Attached would be a better description than Grappling, but that involves negative effects for the fairy.

I think it would need to have talons or give up use of its hands in order to grab on to your armor to hang on without you being able to move away though.

For instance, if it were a bird perched on your shoulder, there is no way you are moving away. But if a Lilliputian were standing on your shoulder, all you have to do is dip your shoulder and it either falls or spreads its wings out again.

I learned my lesson about that when I had an imp land on Igar's shoulder and then someone else tripped it. Lesson learned: Flying creatures should not give up their flying advantage.

Niu wrote:

Right, and Grappling is really the only rule applicable. Reasonably sure that Attached is a monster-specific rule. (ie. not every monster can do it.)

Niu, I believe when you grappled the fairy, it would move into your space based on its size. Agree?

Human Witch 3 | HP 9/16 | AC 13(17) T 13 FF 10(14) | F +1 R +4 W +5 | CMB +0 CMD 13 | Init +7 Perc +3 | Conditions: Mage Armor, Shaken

The rules state adjacent, do they not? I'll have to look it up.

Yes, adjacent. Grasped im my hands like a bug.

It might not be RAW, but It could still bite my hand, certainly, but no funny business with those pliers

Rules state adjacent iirc, but it is kind of awkward when applying that to a diminutive creature. Yeah, so I see you holding it as far away as possible, but it could still bite and did. Or his buddy did. You still owe me a fort :-)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Cross Posted :)

I'll be interested to see how you allow me to bring in a new character after I get coup-de-graced by a tooth fairy.

I hate fey, but that is a new all time low. :)

cdg by a tooth fairy. LOL. Never crossed my mind. Thanks for the input. These guys want your teeth.

Niu wrote:

Already done.

Don is up if he bests the fort.

Chrome extension dark reader and this place looks awesome.

I am fairly certain Etgar Nostrum does not want to be botted by someone of the name Igar The Terrible. :-)

Maybe it would've worked out better...

Doubt that :-)

It looks like a made a mistake regarding Niu's CHA damage. I only see that he is missing one tooth. Therefore -1 CHA.

How are you guys liking this module so far? I think it is well done and entertaining. Tooth fairies. About to get more interesting.

@Etgar LOL A simple thank you for healing blows up into inter-party drama! Awesome. Now, I have to consider whether Niu would notice, understand, or care.

Probably no to all three. Well, he might care.
