GM Rutseg |
And welcome to the Verduran Forest, great forest of the gnome and fey in Taldor! I hope we all enjoy here a nice time of RP and strategy.
Please add here some basic information needed for me to report at the end of the scenario (you can copy paste this template).
Player name:
Character PFS #ID:
Day job roll:
Advancement: Normal / Slow ?
Brief character description:
I assume your faction is properly set in your character alias (the icon next to your name), so please double check it.
Please, do not hesitate to let me know if there is any other extra information you would like me to add in your chronicle.
And now some notes to set some expectations, specially for those of you new to PbP gaming:
In order to keep the pace during combat, I might skip one player if he is the only one still to act, and give him the right to use his action in the next turn. I have found this is usually the best balance between maintaining the game pace and keeping the players opportunity to participate even if they cannot post very often.
Also, in order to improve everybody's experience, every time you have a doubt, in addition to ask about it (please do so!), add contingency actions so I can resolve the events without having to go back and forth into a two people discussion.
And one rule when you post, if you are unsure if something works in a certain way, try it out, if not, I will just ignore the action or tell you what other thing to do. It just saves a lot of time in PbP. Even more if you add contingency actions in spoilers.
For example:
If no one says against this direction, I check the left door for traps.
[dice=Perception]1d20 + 6[/dice] -> Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
I open the door and go into the room if there is no immediate danger.

I call the party rogue to open the door. If we don't have rogue, I try to force it open with my axe Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18.
GM answer:
Great contingencies post! Thanks for helping the action to keep moving!
The door seems to have no traps at all. When you try to open it, you discover it is locked. You call the rogue and he take 20 for total 26 unlocks it.
Your torch light goes inside the room, and you see a big birthday cake. All of a sudden your Pathfinder friends come out around and greet you all "Happy birthday!"
That saves us from expending 3 days checking questions and answers back and forth to decide where to go and what happens with it.
Once I can confirm we are all enrolled, I will set up the Gameplay thread so we can start.
And first rule that triumphs them all: have fun! :D

Clever template!
Player name: SodiumTelluride
Character PFS #ID: 89635-9
Day job roll: Profession (scribe), take 10: 10 + 10 = 20
Advancement: Normal
Brief character description:
Physically, Goldur is a dwarf past his prime. His stocky frame is showing its age and his reflexes have slowed considerably. His hair and beard are more gray than blond. He prefers a good storytelling session or learning opportunity over a battle of arms.
Mechanically, Goldur is very much a support character. He isn't very good at swinging a weapon, but he helps others get the job done and keeps a supply of solutions to whatever problems might arise.
Markus Stonewarden |
Player name:Torilgrey
Character PFS #ID:2387887-2
Day job roll:None
Advancement: Normal
Brief character description:Markus is on the younger side for a Dwarf, and is rather contemplative rather than blustery, as is seen as normal in younger dwarves. He has shaved his head, but maintains his beard while practicing his martial arts. He is a promoter of peace, but will solve problems with violence when needed. Markus does not value gold like many of his kin, instead preferring to work odd jobs periodically to gather the resources to feed himself for a time.
Hudor Nero |
Player name: Banesama
Character PFS #ID: 138079-4
Day job roll: Profession (Brewer): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Advancement: Normal
Brief character description: Hudor is a tall, somewhat lean human with raven hair and blue eyes. He often wears just a vest around his chest and seal leather pants. He uses a spear as a walking staff and has a crossbow strapped to his back, ready to draw when needed.
Extra Information
Due to his Sorcerer Bloodline, he has a permanent Cold Resistance 10.
Xuan Wu |
Player name: Luke_Parry
Character PFS #ID: 2847-43
Day job roll: Profession(Librarian) - 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Advancement: Normal
Brief character description:
A tall, hairless humanoid, apparently carved from marble, Xuan is dressed in a silk robe emblazoned with fantastical creatures like kirin, phoenixes, and dragons. Perched incongruously upon the bridge of his nose are a pair of wire-rimmed pince nez glasses.
Xuan is, technically, a 'non-CORE race'. To be clear: it is as a result of a boon off a PFS *scenario* chronicle sheet, and is one of the very few ways to play a non-CORE race in the CORE campaign (from memory, there are two other possibilities). To my knowledge, there are a few more 'CORE-Oreads' floating around on the PbP forums, so you may have encountered one before ;-)

I am a bit surprised because the Core rules explicitly excepts out race boons from the rule that non Core options from chronicles can be used in the Core campaign.
Race boons found on Chronicle sheets may not be used in the Core Campaign.
The PFS guide also cites the same limitation (page 8 on the last guide, season 10).
Chronicle Sheets: Items listed on Chronicle sheets earned in the Core Campaign are valid options for Core characters. Promotional boons and other Chronicle sheets that open up new race options otherwise can’t be used in the Core Campaign.
Could you cite some official source where this exception was removed at a later time?
@grimdog73: I am fine with you playing with your fighter as long as we keep the game higher tier. That means some other of the level 1 players would have to use a level 4 pregen to keep the average party level over 3.
GM Rutseg |
Thanks for the clarification!
Just for everyone's reference, here is the chronicle boon that allows transforming any character into an oread (even on a Core campaign):
[ ] Elemental Saturation (Earth): The Lucent Archive is suffused with powerful elemental energy, and long-term exposure can transform a humanoid’s body. Before you begin an adventure, you can expend 20 Prestige Points and check the box that precedes this boon to permanently transform yourself into an oread. In doing so, you must retrain any race-related options associated with your original race (e.g. alternate favored class bonuses, race-specific archetypes, and race-specific spells) at no cost. Any of your equipment resizes to Medium size at no additional cost, and if you lost proficiency with a weapon (such as by losing the dwarven weapon training racial trait), you may sell back the weapon at full price. When creating a new 1st-level PC, you may instead spend 10 Prestige Points and check the box that precedes this boon to create an oread PC.
If any of your PCs possesses the Oread’s Favor boon, halve the Prestige Point cost of using this boon. In order to use either of the above benefits, you must bring a copy of one of the following rulebooks as if the oread were a legal race permitted on the Additional Resources page: Pathfinder RPG Advanced Race Guide, Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2, or Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Races.
If you are a kineticist, you can select the earth child utility talent (Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Occult Realms 9) as if it appears on the Additional Resources page.
I assume this is the chronicle you have.
Markus Stonewarden |
I can use a pregen, how does that work? Like I said I'm new! :D
I've got the document off the Paizo site and I'll look through it today. Markus is a neat idea for a Core character, but I can be flexible :D
Also, what do we need in the party? I see a Monk, Sorceror, bard, and a fighter thus far.
Duath Cuthalion |
Sorry, forgot to check the thread. I am willing to play up...and very far back. Lol.
Player name: Agent Eclipse
Character PFS #ID:54329-10
Day job roll: Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Advancement: Normal
Brief character description: Duath Cuthalion is from Kyonin but has begun to adventure with the Pathfinder Society, to build bridges and keep a watchful eye for any relics belonging to his people. Fighter now but will build towards Arcane Archer.
He carries himself with a regal air wearing ebony leather armor and an ornately carved longbow. He knows battle well and is willing to help, even those he may feel aren't up to Kyonin standards.
His last mission was actually with Hudor but as you can see he has been a bit busier.
GM Rutseg |
Hei! I just wanted to clarify about the Diplomacy rolls you are making, because usually you cannot use Diplomacy during combat (or it takes so long that it becomes impractical), but exceptionally this encounter has some stuff scripted that explicitly makes that possible.
More on that next round. But wanted to clarify it so Seelah and Duath's efforts don't seem lost.

Okay, just to be clear:
Swarm Traits wrote:
A swarm has no clear front or back and no discernable anatomy, so it is not subject to critical hits or flanking. A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage. Reducing a swarm to 0 hit points or less causes it to break up, though damage taken until that point does not degrade its ability to attack or resist attack. Swarms are never staggered or reduced to a dying state by damage. Also, they cannot be tripped, grappled, or bull rushed, and they cannot grapple an opponent.Being a swarm does not inherently make you immune to weapon damage; behing Fine or Diminutive does. Swarms of Tiny creatures take half damage from slashing or piercing damage, true, but they *also* take full damage from bludgeoning attacks (since it is not called out as being reduced).
This makes sense, since walloping tiny creatures with a mallet would be more effective than stabbing then with a dagger.
You are completely right Xuan! I can hardly believe it is the first time it comes to a table I play in 8 years of playing D&D3/Pathfinder.
I always had it in my mind that swarms are immune to weapon damage, so when reading the "Tiny" entry I understood it as an exception. But a more careful reading makes it clear it is the other way around. The exception is the immunity for Fine and Diminutive, and half damage when using slashing/piercing on Tiny.
Thanks for the clarification.

Ok, it seems people is confused on how to follow up after my last post. Let's try to help with what I was expecting back:
Any more conversation to spice up the interaction?
Anything else you want to convince the creature about other than "we want to talk"?
Anyone rolling Diplomacy to backup their requests?
GM Rutseg |
Hi there! The lack of inter-party interaction is worrying me a bit. Maybe it is just the holidays or perhaps the setting of the scenario is not picking up on you or I am not laying it down properly.
Is there something confusing about the current setting? This is the kind of encounter that calls for the 'skill-monkey' part of the group to shine and the party to collaborate in something else than monster slaying.
Most dexterous characters should be able to easily balance through the bridge with little risk, while strong fighter types should be able to swim or wade through, with party collaboration helping pass the remaining ones.
Also there is the daylight thing ticking that should add tension as you have limited time to save the lorestone before it is destroyed by the Sun. Your characters should be a bit more whiling to take risks rather than staying back and slowly working a 0 risk solution.
Torilgrey pregen Character Pala |
Hey there! I posted, assuming it'll take Seelah a max of 10 minutes to dearmor and re-armor (providing nothing else happens).
Duath Cuthalion |
Dang, Seelah has a Composite bow over +2, I will take a -2 but I think that is better than getting smushed. Now I just have to make it back over...haha!
Failing the shatter on my bow didn't take my actions for the turn did it?
GM Rutseg |
Congrats! With this we have completed Tide of Morning!
Feel free to RP the after battle, trip back and Venture Captain report.
I will need Seelah's PFS number in order to prepare the chronicles.
Let me know if there is anything special you want me to write down in your chronicle.
The fire and bridge encounters where not easy to GM in an exciting way, at least for PbP, but overall I had fun, specially during the last and first encounters.
I hope you all had fun and are willing to keep playing your characters :)
Duath Cuthalion |
I had a lot of fun, thank you for running it and letting me play up! Sorry to everyone for being mostly useless on the final fight, but hey I got one good shot in! Definitely going to keep playing this guy and eventually get him to Eldritch Archer.
---
Going to purchase a Masterwork Composite (+3) Longbow with 2 PP:
Masterwork: 300
Composite Longbow: 100
+3 Rating: 300
Darkwood: 30
Total: 730 gp for 2PP
Could you put that on my chronicle sheet, thank you!
Goldur Twinthunders |
Yay! Fun game all around!
I'll be prestiging into Pathfinder Chronicler in a few levels, because I've literally never seen one (not even in Core, where options are so limited) and I think it would be fun.
Torilgrey pregen Character Pala |
So I played the Pregen Seelah for this, which was a lot of fun, thanks everyone!
I'm wondering how I apply the credit to a character, and what the process is for that. This is only my third PFS game and I'm still a little sketchy on the details.
:D
