Ketra nods, leading the way back through the bottom floor until she reaches the "surgery" room. She checks the door to the north, trying to think through the layout of the cathedral and getting a little puzzled that it doesn't open to the room with the bear.

If Ketra’s barkskin has worn off, Sanduro will use the 2nd level pearl of power to cast it on her again before we try ladling anything out of the fountain (+3 enhancement to natural armor, 70 minutes).

Satisfied that no additional mysteries or surprises lurk in an unvisited room, you scrounge the Bastion's ruins for a suitable tool, and eventually find one in a pile of junk: a bent, slightly musty-smelling wooden ladle, likely forgotten here for many years.

Armed with this tool, you return to the fountain room and carefully, very carefully, fish the magical mystery item from the befouled waters. It turns out to be a flask--a dark metal flask from which pours a small but steady trickle of blood. In moments the ladle has filled to overflowing and several drops fall to the cobblestone floor. As the land the blood begins to hiss and bubble like grease on a hot stove and a blood-red smoke begins to congeal into something before your very eyes!

Religion DC18:

Something clicks in your mind, and you realize this flask is the focus for a murderous spirit called a polong. These incorporeal spirits manifest as a blood-drenched shadows with hands transformed into long claws, little memory of their past lives, and an unquenchable thirst for slaughter!

CE medium undead with the Incorporeal subtype; all the usual questions apply

We're not in Initiative just yet, but the party effectively has a Surprise Round while the entity manifests.

Unsure of exactly what he is dealing with, Garret keeps his distance and raises a magical shield (casting Shield).

Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 I'll take defenses beyond incorporeality if it has any.

"Oh." Ketra holds the ladle in one hand as she draws her magical dagger in the other. "It's a polong. Mirhet taught me about those. What was it? Cursed bottle, master's blood, beware the polong's.... something or other. Now I'm wishing I'd paid attention to that bit, but uh, I tuned out when she said I'd never see one near Roslar's Coffer. They're more of a Tian thing."

Will spend my surprise round to move into melee with it and ready a weapon that's effective depending on my knowledge check. I'm assuming a +1 dagger will be the most likely candidate.

Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

If Ketra’s asking about defenses, I’ll ask about special attacks, special abilities/qualities, best save.

“I think we’re really going to miss Zsofia’s help this time! And Grandmother Túnde never taught me a rhyme, that would have made it easier to remember what she did say about these things…”

Sanduro concentrates a moment and all of his weapons begin to glow faintly. He steps back 5’, nocks an arrow, and waits nervously for the combat to start. Using Ghost Hunter to give all of his weapons the ghost touch property for 1 minute. p
