The Tusken Raider howl was a nice touch.

Greta's magically enhanced muscles strain against the door frame, but it seems unwilling to submit...until Junior barrels into Greta's back. This final insult tips the scales, and the door splinters inward.

The southern portion of this room holds a wide alabaster basin filled with bloody entrails. The outside of the basin is carved with images of warriors around a raised sun, holding longswords aloft. A flight of stairs ascends to the west.

Of somewhat more immediate concern to you, however, are the half dozen zombies standing around the basin, staring into it mournfully. Your explosive entrance draws their attention (eventually), and they begin shambling forward.

The party batters the zombies about with hammer, blade, and divine power but somehow, none of the creatures fall. Irabeth strides forward to shield Massielo from reprisal, but her blade fails to find anything vital in the closest zombie. Sinesia, your ally from Neathholm, places an arrow expertly in her target's chest, but the undead seems unconcerned. Greta, similarly, finds her target less affected by her powerful longhammer.

The counterattack is...well, not swift, but it is determined. Tristan's abjurations protect the party from the worst of it, but one of the zombies manages to catch Junior with a powerful swing of its desiccated arm, leaving him bruised and off balance. 9 damage to Junior.

One of the other zombies, frustrated by its inability to find any prey in reach, circles around the basin. Yellow provokes an AoO from Junior.

Tristan then asks Iomedae for Her Divine Favor.

He then walks casually down the steps; taking out his longsword, and standing next to Junior.

Massielo and Tristan:
These zombies are certainly tougher, as you've observed, but past that don't seem to have any unusual abilities. Like all zombies, they're quite slow and resistant to bludgeoning and piercing weapons. Slashing weapons are effective against them, though.

Half the zombies are cut down only seconds apart, felled by powerful strikes from Greta, Benedic, and Irabeth. Irabeth steps forward, shield raised. The closest zombie throws itself against her but she shrugs it off.

The other zombies try to grab hold of Junior and Tristan, but Junior's morningstar punishes them for the attempt.

Seeing that the tougher zombies are finally getting cut down, Massielo decides to conserve his resources and move forward swinging his morningstar, despite knowing that it won't be much effective. However, he says something to the others but it comes out in Celestial.

One zombie falls to Caliban and Selann, followed quickly by another as Greta lays it low. The final zombie is stabbed, shot, beaten, and finally cut down by one final swing from Benedic's holy sword.

Irabeth stands next to the basin, appalled at how the bodies of the Gray Garrison's defender were used to desecrate it.

"This is the Garrison's scrying chamber," she explains, turning to face you. "It should be filled with water, not...this."

Selann casts a cantrip to start cleaning the mess off/out of the basin. "We can clean it up and water can be summoned to fill it. All of this place needs to be cleansed of the demonic taint, and the bodies properly buried with the honors that they deserve. But proper consecration will have to wait until we finish the evil forces that have taken over here...."

BigGreta scowls slightly and reminds her companions, "if they haven't re-animated yet they're probably not going to in the next three or four minutes, but all across the city brave men and women are sacrificing their lives to buy us time to finish our task. How many of their deaths do you think are justified to do this now instead of after we destroy the shard? I believe the answer is zero. We can get closure after our brothers- and sisters-in-arms are safer."

Having spoken her piece, she grasps her hammer and starts up the stairs to see where they lead.

Junior stands stiffly as he and the rest are chastised for delaying the mission. After a pregnant pause he says, "Well she has a point. You heard the woman, go, go, GO!" Junior rushes up the stairs after the slight crusader. Fred speaks to Junior and he responds in a hushed tone, "No I think dad or Lily will be the death of me."

Upstairs it is!

At the top of the spiral stairs, a wide hall stretches for nearly thirty feet before ending in a door. Two alcoves on both sides of the hall hold torches that burn with white light. Each torch illuminates a pedestal, on each of which rests a battered and broken steel helm.

Of somewhat more immediate concern is the enormous, bipedal bull creature standing just in front of that door. It glares at you with dim, yellow eyes before raising a horn and blowing a single note that seems to shake the floor around you. It then lumbers forward with a greataxe longer than any of you are tall.

Rushing up the stairs Selann cringes as the creature sounds an alarm. If there were any guards behind them they'd surely come running now.... He quickly casts a spell at the behemoth trying to hit a vulnerable spot.
